My phone just died this morning . I was running froyo 2.2 for about a week. Never rooted , no lag fix. Good thing I had a Extended warranty with Futureshop.. Got another one right away. I know Samsung pulled the update from it's site (kies). Is there any other way to install it again without rooting my phone. If my phone dies again I'll just get another one. Thanks
wish i had that extended warranty.
odin will work without root. just grab the rom off of samfirmware
Thanks I'll try that. Hope they fix the problem soon. Samsung don't seem to know how to fix it. Great phone bad service...

Search the site for the latest Samsung Kies application and install it. You should have no problem updating your phone with Kies, I have done it on a few occasions with no problem at all.

Hopefully when you paid for you phone with ATT you got the insurance on it, I think it's like 4.95 per month...it protects you against damage. Now it won't protect you against what you did to your phone....But it does protect you against water damage....or ACCIDENTAL dropping and cracking the screen...read between the lines, you could have a brand new phone if you can't get that one up and running again....now there is a deductable, but noting like spending another 200.00 on anothe phone...

Are you a total idiot? There is no need for that Samsung mini kies from the state your phone is in will update you to the JH7 ota update and it is safer. @ Stewart Dude don't offer wrong advice you sound like a **** in all your posts and you aren't being helpful. Don't be a troll.

Pwned!
sixxbob, the Mini Kies route will work fine. I just came back from Cognition 2.2 beta 7 and used this method to get the JH7 update.
If you downloaded a cog rom on the same download page is the jh7 OTA. Flash it. But serriously I am on beta 6 and I can not see going back unless it is for another custom rom

I thought the odin update was the JH7 update?
You should be able to update using that.
With my phone using Cognition, because it just runs better.
Hi, just got my SGS back from being repaired. been flashed to JPO which is what i was doing when i bricked it. Fixed under warranty so all good there. Now i wanna root it again but confused about it with 2.2 , seemed easier under 2.1
Oh and the good news is I now got 3 button reset which i never had before. Yay for me.
I just installed z4root from the market and it rooted my phone in no time, just had to enable usb debugging when the app asked me to, and it restarted once...

Hi, I've been using Darky's Rom for over a week now and everything was fine. I woke up this morning, and my phone was off. I found this strange because it was left on the night before, and it was completely unresponsive. I pulled the battery and attempted to boot it, but it keeps flashing the GT-i9000M logo and rebooting. I have Download mode working, which is good and I've tried flashing the stock firmware back, and it's not working. I've tried the repartition option with both the 512mb .pit file and the one that came with odin, nothing's working. Anyone have any tips?
Call samsung its toast. Check out some of the i9000m posts in the general forum.

Dang. Is there any chance Bell will be able to replace it for me? I'm guessing my issue is the corrupt internal microsd. Also, since I was a running a custom rom would it be a good idea to flash the bell FroYo through Download Mode before taking it in? Thanks for the response. Also, should I mention to them that I upgraded to FroYo?
As it is you have no warranty as you messed with the firmware so yes be on the safe side and flash to stock bell firmware . You can always act ignorant and say it went bad after the Froyo update .

Alright, that's what I'll do. Thanks for the advice.
As bad as I feel about lying, it's a physical problem with the device and I feel that I deserve a replacement. I didn't really have second thoughts about installing a custom ROM because the Galaxy S is virtually unbrickable thanks to download mode.
edit: Does anyone know where I can find the jk4 froyo that's bricking our phones?
Found it! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867309
Hi,
I was playing with ROM flashing and the like and I decided to go back to stock, so I did using the ODIN flash to JF6. However, it seems that I have trouble getting the JF7 update over the air to work. Any ideas?
Thanks
I'm a Noob, but you might try Kies - It should detect a newer version available and let you update that way. Much more reliable in any case if you ask me.
You can do search flashing to stock JH7 that should help you. If no one else has sent you a link by the time I get to my computer I'll send you a link I think it will be flashing 1010 build or something like that.

I've had more problems with kies than anything else, try the samsung website to update.
I see you was wanting JF7, I don't know what the difference is but this will get you back to stock JH7 Eclair.

I tried it, it works.
Well I want JH7, but I also want to be able to get the official Froyo when or if it comes out.

Like stated above.... flash using kies mini.... then you'll be ready for official AT&T froyo.
Alright thanks for all your help, Mini Kies did the trick.
I tried to update to Froyo 2.2 on my girls captivate followed the instructions correctly. Kies Mini said it updated fine and got to the restart screen but it's just black and keeps buzzing every 30 seconds. What's going on? Need some help.
Sound like a bad flash. Retry.
Caution swyping! Read at your own risk.
I would odin one click then install cognition it is froyo but way better... Also if ever have warranty issues just odin one click

You have 2 options..
Bad flash through Kies happen all the time and you waranty covers it.
But try flashing again before you do it.
Thansk for the replays everyone. I ened up taking the battery out for about 5 min and it tured on fine, everything seem to be working fine. I check the firmware version and it's at 2.2. I897UCKB1
