[Q] Reboot app - Captivate Themes and Apps

Is there a reboot widget that doesn't require you to be rooted to work? I can't believe something as simple as this isn't built-in to the Captivate. I'm really loving the phone, but I am starting to miss the nuts-and-bolts customizability of my WinMo Tilt 2.

If you want root offers, why don't you... you know... go ahead and root.
Sent from my Captivate.

I just recently rooted my phone after being a little worried about doing so. It's not so bad and you can always flash your phone back to stock (without root) if you need to return it or warranty service it. Rooting will allow you to do much more with the phone such as backuping the entire system and having a reboot application. Z4root is a one-click application that makes it VERY easy.

As far as I know you can reboot your phone by preasing and holding vol up+power for 5 seconds.
About rooting: I usually don't flash a firmware unless it can be rooted.

ROOT OPTIONS FOR ZIO 2.2 Cricket

I'm using Universal Androot, Ti Back Up Pro, Root Explorer, SetCPU, Ad Free Android for Root, Launcher Pro Plus, QuickBoot(not sure if this works with the phone yet) and I used Uninstaller for Root to erase all the bloatware and BS. Did a great job too, didn't have to track down all the files individually. Anyway I wanted a place for everyone, especially noobs like me to have a place to come and get advice about things over our heads. Oh yeah and I have a custom startup sound thanks to the Boot Screen thread. Working on getting all the images to replace the Cricket screen now. This is my first android, and WILL NOT be my last.
Awesomeness!
I had attempted a root on my Zio when it was stuck on 1.6 but my prayers were answered with this weeks update! So, thanks for this thread man. I'm already loving 2.2 and I'm about to try your root process and see how it goes. I'm so happy I can finally use this thing! I actually parted ways with my iPhone today. I'm just going to invest in a bigger sd card.
Anywho, I'm still hoping for some custom Zio ROMS in the future.
I'll let ya know how the root turns out.

Yeah I have an 8GB and it's not going to be enough soon, especially when ROMS start coming out, that is if we ever get clockworkmod support. Until then rooting and using custom launchers is about as good as it gets. Tons and tons of reading helps. The more the merrier.
just installed a custom boot screen over the Cricket one. With a custom boot sound. Got the boot screen from fate43 over in the Boot Screen thread. Good work and much thanks. made the boot sound with a music file converter I DLed from Google here on the comp. Freakin kid in a candy store I tell ya........
Done!
So I ended up using Universal Androot to root and Super Manager to get rid of the bloatware. So far so good.
I've got the stock 1G sd card now and I never wanted to bother upgrading since I had 32G on my iPhone. I don't miss that thing at all now. I'm finally freeeeeee!!!
Now for boot screens and beyond.
This is far more rewarding that jailbreaking any ....other....devices.
Which version of Universal Androot did you use?
1.6.5.2 beta I do believe were the numbers. I go to look to be sure and it's just gone from my phone. So look around, just type it in to the search bar or google it. I'm almost certain of the numbers though.
hmmm thats the only one ive been finding id post a link but it wont let me because im so noob on this forum. Im new to android so i'm hesitant to root it until I know I can return to stock. Any recommendations for being prepared to do this? would I need to rip the current stock rom?

rooting your phone does not alter the "stock" rom in the way you're thinking - once you root, you can never go back - this is not true. All rooting does is give you super user access, so you _can_ use apps that require root access (like widgets for rebooting, root file explorer, setcpu, task killers, etc...), as well as other benefits.
Universal androot makes it way too easy to root/unroot your phone (one clickety to root, one clackety to unroot).
Once you get a little more familiar with android, you'll be able to really see the benefits of having root.
Thanks for the info

No luck with boot screens so far but I get the general idea. A project for another day. I'm gonna see how this thing syncs with Ubuntu.

when using 1.6 androot and root explorer worked perfectly now with 2.2 when i goto root root works fine (im taking it does as it said woot your phone is rooted but then goto bring up root explorer it tells me to force close it. i restart my phone and i dont root it root explorer works fine leave root explorer running then root my phone then go back to root explorer and refresh it just sits there at a black screen can any one help me fix this so i can root my phone again as i had to get a replacement phone and lost my boot up scrren i made.
Sounds to me like you flubbed up somewhere. Unroot, factory reset. Reinstall. Make sure you're still rooted(should be). I had same problems. Only factory reset helped. Make sure you back up first!!!!

b4 you reset the phone and go through that whole process, try wiping the data cache of all of your apps that use root. Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage Apps>Root Explorer>Clear Data
I probably needed that. Taken care of now and forever more. Thanks fate

Did what you said fate and it still wants to fc even with the new version of root explorer i even did a hard reset like i just took it out of the box with 2.2 on it and still the same and the only 2 programs i installed was root explorer v2.14.1 and androot v1.6.2 beta 5 and im doing the soft root btw but i doubt that would make a differnce. I do know that when i soft root and have wifi enabled my wifi meter on the task bar will disappear and when i goto settings to turn it back on under wifi it says error in small letters the only way to get wifi back is to reboot the phone. Fixing pcs and windows is alot easyer then phones lol.
I tryed to use another program that you need to have root access the program is root uninstaller and it fails to install while the phone is rooted restarted the phone that root uninstaller installed fine and did a soft root with androot the program will come up but wont let me uninstall anything but yet androot is saying woot your device is rooted. I'm starting to think universal androot dont work right no more on android 2.2 as it worked perfectly on android 1.6 and all my apps worked perfectly to root now i can't root at all any other way to root other then androot?

How to successfully root my galaxy s. Pressing the recovery buttons do not work

Hi i was just trying to figure out a successful way to root my galaxy s. I have no idea what to do now i figured out the three button press recovery mode doesnt work on my phone. Any ideas any body?

There is a sticky on how to do this either in this forum or in the q&a section. Before you do anything you should do your homework.

Nice one

Hi wezzyboyrye
I have an SGS on 3 network, with stock 2.2 ROM...
Mine doesn't work with the 3-button combo either. There are a few posts around (sorry I dont have links for them), about using a home-made USB jig to get in to recovery/download mode for flashing ROM.
There are also videos etc on youtube about it.
There is also a fix somewhere on XDA which can bypass this by flashing your phone with some ROM tweak (I dont know much about this one either!! sorry)
However, I am not completely useless... just this very afternoon I rooted my SGS using "z4root" by RyanZA...see link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
It's so easy...just download apk, install it, run it, press whichever root option you want (temporary or permanent) then off it goes. Phone reboots and job done!!!
IMPORTANT NOTE: I did take a risk rooting without the ability to get my phone in to any sort of recovery mode, but I have read alot about z4root on XDA and its 99% success rate was enough reassurance for me
Good luck with yours...
hi this happened to me the other day try taking your battery out for a few mins then 3 button combo whilst putting battery back in worked for me but took a couple of goes

Without even knowing your Android version this is a tough one to answer. Reading at least some stickies is indeed recommended.
Btw before you do anything with your phone you want to enable 3 button combo mode first - unless you want run out of most options if you soft brick your phone.
I used this method successfully to get them working:

Need to Unroot - Only have Linux

I rooted my phone the manual ADB way with my Linux box. I'm having problems with the phone, and going to exchange it, just need to wipe it and unroot it before I do so. I have reflashed thecubed stock Rom on it, and flashed the stock recovery image using Revo Toolkit, now I need to get root off, and I can't find anything other than people saying about SuperOneClick which is windows.
Any help? Thanks
if you simply exchanging it i doubt root would matter. the verizon store in my town almost every person in there working has both their personal and work phone rooted and nobody blinks a eye.
Just delete super user using root explorer. They really don't care. I have sent back 4 eris' and 1 fascinate rooted just super user gone and never had a problem. Actually my fascinate still had a rom, and cwm installed on it and never a problem.
Yeah. I just want to be careful since I'm on a business plan, however i did manage to get it off with ny virtualbox using SuperOneClick so no worries. I was just having problems getting the web driver installed correctly on it at first but it finally took
Sent from my VS910 4G using Tapatalk
The Verizon employees don't care. And when you mail them in for replacement they go back to the manufacturer and are reflashed and restocked as FRUs. I understand your being cautious but just giving you the info to ease your mind. I worked there for six years.

Problem No Lock screen No Power Menu

hi
my father is having a problem in his Galaxy note
yesterday the lock screen and the power menu don't appear
and when you click the power button for 2 seconds the device will shut down
my fathers phone isn't rooted and still on stock rom also the phone is still in warrenty
any ideas?
New battery?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Take it to the samsung center.
Alternatively, root it and install a custom recovery.
On your new recovery, go to the advanced menu and select fix permissions.
If i'ts still not working, you should reflash your rom, either via Odin, or via .zip
thanks
looks like we will take it to the samsung center
cause my father won't let me root his phone
btw aren't there any apps in google play that can be used for this purpose?

For the lockscreen yes, but for the power menu i don't know any that would work.
Either way, I'd recommend you not to do that kind of work around, as it probably comes from a software conflict (something ma have altered your files permissions or corrupt them).
If you take it to samsung they will flash a stock rom via odin. You can do the exact same procedure at home without voiding your warranty, but either way you will lose all your apps and data
BTW, there's a thanks button. It's polite to use it
I bought new battery(duplicate one). Now my N7000 also having same problem like no lock and power button just shut downs
also I have no network but data is working(2g/3g).
Please help. I have already downloaded STock rom from Sammobile and installed. same problem appears

Att NC2 need help going back to factory ASAP

Hello I searched and couldn't find an answer basically I rooted my note 3 with root towel and safe strap unfortunately i didn't back up or back anything up was kinda drunk lol so at this point I can't seem to flash anything I see the galaxy note 3 on the booting then the safe strap shows up and it is giving me two options recovery or continue ... If I hit continue nothing happens ...black screen now if I hit recovery I'll be in safe strap recovery but can't see to flash any NC2 rom anyway at ths point I rather like to go back to stock ncu and start over any help will be greatly appreciated!!
Hello no one here can help? Please!!!
I am having the almost same problem a you, with the exception that I can still use my phone right now. But I can't install any other rom or even use my backup that I made in recovery. They just keep failing. I can give you a copy of my backup that I made maybe that will help you. Just pm me if you want it OK.

I ran into a similar issue. I messed up and learned the hard way to make sure and run a backup before messing with my phone. In my case, I make sure to run Nandriod backup and make a full backup to my external sdcard.
As a suggestion, you can always restore to MLG using the n900aucumlg one click (by designgears) 4.4.2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2619941
You can then simply update the modem using this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2698464
Did you install busybox. The order to do all that was 1. Towelroot. 2. Install busybox. 3. Install safestrap. If nothing is happening I would suggest to boot into stock recovery via power, home, volume up (or down I forget which one it is) and just factory reset like that. It should erase everything and start you fresh

FYI, I would also check out the source from where you are loading your ROMs. Since I swapped over to a different SD card, my installation problems have been cleared up.
