can someone answer the above? At present, when u write a text message and are with no signal it simply puts the text message in ur draft folder which i find useless. I know nokia, has a 'resend' option or something. Anyone know of anything for the kaiser?
That would be a nice feature, i've come stuck a couple times like that (on a flight and out of coverage) and had to save them as drafts then click on send later when back in service.
I send a lot of texts to large groups and also find they stick in the outbox sometimes never moving, if i try and click them they send repeatedly sometimes people get 5 or 6 messages. Both these issues were a problem for previous versions you would have thought they had sorted it by now.
You could try using the 02 SMS Plus application...it lets you set a schedule as well as lets u send group sms's. It comes bundled with all 02 phones and should work on Wm5 and Wm6. Try searching the forum for a Cab file of the application
Seems SMS messages are restricted to 160 characters on my Diamond, anything over and it goes into a second SMS. Is there a way to extend this?
I've searched the forum, but I couldn't find a solution... either that or my searching skills are nil points
even if you changed it on your end. the received phone would still split the message.
You sure? I don't understand. I could type bigger texts than this on my old phones. Isn't there new versions of SMS that support more characters that have been out for a few years now? Or am I missing something?

It is called email
See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Short_message_service
SMS is restricted to 160 characters each message. That isn't something with the Diamond but a limitation of the protocol -always, on every phone-. that's why it is called SMS: "SHORT message service".
Most modern phones, including the Diamond, are sending multiple messages to overcome this limit. In most cases the receiving phones are able to combine those segmented messages.
So, perhaps some settings (on you Diamond, or more likely on the other end) are mixed up.
So I just ignore the fact I can type text messages over 160 characters on my old LG/Sony phones without having to send two messages and get used to the fact my futuristic Diamond can't?
aaah, maybe it's an optical illusion. I just feel I'm having to send shorter text since getting this phone. Maybe I should reduce my font text size to help me from feeling/seeing things lol. Excuse my loco'ness.
As I said, your Diamond will overcome this restriction by dividing your text in seperate messages, you have to do nothing, just type what you want to type. If you are not able to do so, search for any relevant settings. I guess your Diamond isn't much different from mine, and mine is intelligent enough to do the job on its own.
Yeah, it will go over 160. So, if I do, the recipient will receive two (or more) text messages?

Techically: yes. But he/she also did with messages send with your old phone. It all depends on the phone and settings used by the recipient if it actually shows up as seperate messages or if they will be combined again.
cheers. I shall put it to the test by text my girlfriends phone! Huzzah!
Succes! (and as this forum has a restriction of AT LEAST 10 characters, I type some nonsense as well )
Just send an MMS, its cheaper than two SMS (at least with my german contract) and you can send 300KB of text. That should cover even the longest short message ;-)
Well my phone contract allows me unlimited text messages (sms). I just didn't want to confuse ppl with my 2 part texts.
I did the test. Sent a text 180-odd characters long (Diamond said '2 messages').. received on a Sony Ericsson all contained in 1 text message. Damn you Diamond for making me flap.
You really don';t get it do you?
When you had to pay for your sms, you'd get really expensive.
Technically, in the 'mobile phone world', a SMS-message CAN NOT BE longer than 160 characters.
Not a single phone can do that.
So when your girls phone sais 1 message, it cleverly combines your 2 sent messages.
Send it to a ericsson t28
No, I really didn't get it, but now I do thanks to my thirst for knowledge and the helpful people of this forum.
Sorry if my lack of SMS protocol knowledge appauled you
Does anyone know how I can get my contacts list to stop showing the option to send text to certain phone numbers? It still shows for things marked as home or work, even though they're landlines. Obviously sending an text would do nothing other than waste them, so I'd like the space this takes up back.
I'm really sorry to bump this, but no one knows how I could get rid of the send text option? I've tried everything and despite searching my best I've come up with nothing.
I apologize if this has been asked/resolved before, but I searched the forums and google quite a bit to no avail. I have found other instances of people with this issue but have not found a resolution yet.
Every time I receive a single text message, I get a notification on the unlock screen that says I have 2 texts. When I unlock the phone and pull down the notification area, it lists the 2 texts. One of the texts is the actual text i just received and I can access it just fine. The other text listed is a text from weeks ago that has long been deleted, including the entire thread it was in. This ghost text will not go away.
I can clear the notifications and it goes away, but as soon as I receive another text from anyone, it pops up there again. I have tried some other solutions that popped up on google. These were to download the SMS Cleaner app and search by keyword. Upon doing this, the app does not find any texts with the keywords from the ghost text.
I have also tried replying to the text to create a new thread and maybe try to delete it again, but even when the new thread is created/deleted the ghost text comes back.
I also turned off/on text notifications several times also combined with power cycling the phone, which did not solve this either.
Note: This text was from a room alert system in our server room at work. It sends email alerts that we then have converted to text message and sent to our phones.
Not sure if it being an email has anything to do with it, but I have received these alerts several times before without any of them getting stuck.
My phone is still on 2.1 and was rooted using Unleash the Beast.
Anyone have the same problem, or any ideas? Is there a folder that holds texts somewhere in the root file system that I can clean out?
Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to give as much detail about the problem as possible, this has been annoying me for weeks.
Try deleting the email alert? Just spitballing...
This happened to me last night!
I keep getting the same Ghost Txt message
The only way i can think to get rid of it would be a Data Reset.
But i dont wanna erase my whole phone cuz of a software issue that may happen again!
Have u fixed it?
No, still no luck on this. Anyone have any ideas?
I had a problem similar to this with the dumb phone that i had before my Captivate. I called AT&T customer support because I didn't want to reset my phone and they got it resolved. Apparently there was a message stuck in their server marked as unread, but since it had been read on my phone it said 0 new messages. This might work for you, too?
Solved
Open the spot where notifications are read the phone number and send a text to it, it will open the message thread and you can delete it there
Right ok rather confused by this to be honest, and will try to explain in as simple way as possible as its easy to totally not make sense
Well I am able to send texts to every person on my contact list. Everyone, apart from 1.... the thing is I can send them texts, but only if i manually change the number to +44 at the start of every message to this individual.
The number on my phone is saved as a contact as a +44 number but if you click 'send message' is automatically changes iself to 077... Annoyingly. Or if you try to reply to a message it changes to a 077. The only way I can send a message to this person if I start from scrath and make a 'new message' every time and type the number in manually... Very time consuming and annoying. :/ and its starting to fancly piss me off D: Its the same for calls if you try to call from a message etc when its changed to 077 it does not work.... You have to type it manually then or unlike messages it works if you use you contact list. The only way I can contact this person is if the number stays as a +44 number, However my phone is determined to change it to an 077 so its unable to work D:
I wondered it this might be a problem with my provider etc, but no ive recived the all clear from o2, the person has not blocked me as they are recieving messages i have to manually make, and calls. Im reciving texts from everyone else etc and able to send texts to everyone else, i can send messages to people using an 077 number and +44 numbers. So fanclly im very confused
Is there a hidding setting i could have clicked or activated so that it always changes to be an 077?? or is its somthing else.. Any answeres would be much appreciated, if non of you brainy lot can help I might end up daring to call Samsung
Thanks
