how to install need for speed shift - Nook Color General

I have the apk and the data folder. It says to put data in a folder called \sdcard\Android\Data which did not exist but i created them. I installed it, the game starts shows the EA logo and then goes back to home screen.
i am new to Android but not a complete moron(ie Network Engineer) please help
yes i am rooted with autonoot, installed a bunch of apps, but need for speed does not work and would like that one.

yep sorry the right APK is key

In the app description it says it is incompatible with the galaxy tap and presumably other tablets. They also say that a tablet version is coming out soon.

Where do you get that version?
I find it annoying that I paid for the game but can't install it because it doesn't show up in the Market.
I tried to copy the apk to system/app and it runs but fails on the downloading data part. Anyone know how to fix this?

USAA [email protected] .apk outside the US?

How do I download and use the "[email protected]" app from USAA bank from outside the US? It's free but I need to get a legitimate copy of it for obvious reasons. I emailed USAA and did the obvious Google searches before posting this, but I am getting nowhere. I am making the assumption that they are limiting it to the US market (I'm in the UK). I am running a compatible version of Android, so I should see it, but I don't. Here are my basic questions:
1) If I got the .apk somehow and installed it here in the UK, would it work from here?
2) Would using a wifi connection with it be different than a mobile network?
3) If #2 is yes, could I configure my router to use a US proxy?
I really like the idea of taking a picture of a check with my G1, and depositing it that way. If anyone has figured this out please let me know how it works. Thanks.

These are assumptions, not answers:
Most likely it would work from UK in any form you try to use (WiFi/network). I would assume since USAA will have clients outside of the US for obvious reasons there would probably be no check that you're on a US carrier.
If you're having trouble getting the apk, I could download it from the market and send it to you. Send me a PM and I can email it to you.
Here it is. Hope it works from abroad!
Sweeet!
Thanks, r4d14n7. I appreciate the help. I just tried it over wifi and it worked no problem. Haven't tried it over 3G but I bet that works too. I was using the regular [email protected] before, but this is even better.
** Mods if you can change the title of the post to "[email protected] .apk outside the US?" it would help others searching for this same issue. I'm a noob and I wasn't able to type it out correctly...thanks.

What phone and version are you using, because I DL'd and tried to install, but it keeps giving me "aaplication not installed".
I'm using Sprint HERO, but version 2.1, so I should be good to go, thanks.
forty01 I'm using the latest stable Cyanogen build (4.2.15.1) on a HTC Dream/T-Mobile G1. I downloaded the .apk to my desktop, then transferred it to the memory card on the phone over USB, and disconnected the cable. Then I just navigated to the .apk file in Astro file manager and opened it (touch the .apk file in Astro and then touch "open app manager"). I've got the phone's SD card partitioned with the apps running off that (apps to SD). You probably did the same thing but I'm covering all the basics here to avoid any confusion. Hope you get it working. If I left anything out here just ask for help again.
Yess i have the htc eris and can not find the mobile banking app for regions can any one help??
That was downloaded from the market just before I posted it (10Mar2010). I'm running a G1, but I'm not sure that makes any difference. I'm a little noobish when it comes to apks
I overlooked something obvious here but I'm learning. I just tried the "Market Enabler" and now I see the USAA app from overseas. That's got to be the simplest way to grab it, and keep it updated.
Can I get this to work on Cupcake? I'm running the Aloysius ROM on a CDMA Hero. The software version says 1.56.651.2, and the .apk above won't install.

Not on Cupcake (Android 1.5), it runs on Donut (Android 1.6) or higher.
From the USAA website... "The Android app is free and available now for devices running the Android operating system version 1.6 or later."
You will have to upgrade to a newer version of Android before installing. When you do, grab the USAA app directly from the market. Use the Market Enabler (search for it) to get the app if you are outside the USA. Good luck.
Reviving this thread. I have a GSM Hero (U.K, unlocked, not Orange) running Android 2.1 and still cant find this USAA app in the market. Anyone know why?
** Update August 2011, I removed the attachment, it's a year old. The only correct way to do this from outside the US is to root, use Market Enabler, and get it in the Marketplace.
Here's the newest version of the app, attached below. (Removed)
First thing you need is a file browser to navigate to the .apk, once it's on your phone's memory card. Find a file browser in the market if you don't have one yet. You will have to enable installing third-party sources, your phone will prompt you if you haven't already. The problem with this method is that you can't update the app, and you have to trust my attachment as being safe.
A better way is to root your phone, and install Market Enabler (Google it). Requires root access, but it works perfectly. You can use it over wifi, 3G, whatever. You can use it to browse a lot of different markets. Plus, you can download the USAA app directly from the market, and update it that way, too.
Post a reply or PM me if that doesn't work out for you. Also, email USAA and ask them to make it available outside the US. I did, and they aren't ready to do it yet. Silly, considering who their members are. Just my opinion.

I agree with everything you said. Did you actually talk to USAA about that? Yeah, I went looking for Market Enabler etc, but you need root (as you said). I can't find a reasonable guide for rooting a stock 2.1 GSM Europen Hero (unbranded/unlocked). Is there one?

One thing I didn't think to mention yet is to try something like App Brain. I haven't used it yet but it's pretty popular on this and other android forums. I think you can set up an account on the website, load their app on your rooted or un-rooted phone, and load apps that way. Worth a try.

Thanks so much r4d14n7. I was having problems getting the app from the market as well. I live in Belgium.
But now that I got the app up and working, I tried to use [email protected] and it is telling me it cannot find my location. I have GPS and wifi on and both the maps application and my web browser on my vibrant are working. Any suggestions?
tpmaxwell2 I've never seen it try to get my location. I don't think it needs it. USAA is just limiting the download availability to the US. Once you get the .apk, anyone can use it. I'm using it no problem from the UK and it never switches on my GPS, nor is there any delay launching the app. It just comes right up. I posted an updated version in post #14, scroll up a little to see it. I've got that version running on both my rooted G1 and a stock, unrooted Desire from here in Europe. If you try it and still get location errors or other problems, post here again so we can figure out the problem.

On the version I just downloaded I cant even get into [email protected] without getting this error: "your location is required to use [email protected] please enable location services on your device and retry."
So I enabled wifi location and the app worked! Thanks so much!!
FYI...
I ran across this thread after trading in my iPhone 3gs for a HTC Desire HD. I went into the market to download the USAA app, and it couldn't be found. As suggested above, I installed market enabled, set as a t-mobile phone, then searched again. The USAA app showed up in the search, I installed it, and it works fine. BTW, I'm in the UK as well. Hope this helps for anyone else having the same problem.

My Market fix

There are several posts here for fixes to get the full Market and I'm one of the unfortunate that none of these fixes work for me. Different roms, countless restarts and FC never worked. I was talking to a friend and he told me to download market enabler. Further digging pointed to me MarketAccess - an updated version without the ads. From what I've heard, Android Market will limit what you can 'see' depending on the service/carrier you have with your cell phone. And since we're on a tablet, that may be why some of us are SOL.
Market Access will trick Android Market into thinking you have a cell phone carrier with your tablet. For example, I chose T-mobile for the U.S. and I now have Kindle and Nook; two apps I couldn't download before.
I'm going to continue testing this and see what else I can get. For now, those were the two I couldn't see and I now have them installed through the Market.
You can find MarketAccess be googling... yes, Market Access. The site should be amip.tools (can't post links yet)
Is this what your talking about?
http://amip.tools-for.net/wiki/android/marketaccess
Are you sure this is safe and legal?
That's it. I didn't see anything that would make this illegal. Do you?

I would love to be able to access the full Market too but I am, like you, one whose attempts to fix Market did not work. However, unlike you, even with the fix you led me to, my gtab continues to not be able to see the full Market apps. Bummer. But thanks anyway.

Reggie, Did you try different carriers when running the app? Some apps may be specific to the cell phone service.
Which apps are you looking for anyway?
Yeah this fix didn't really work for me either. Honestly if I need an app badly enough and its not showing I just download to my phone back it up to my dropbox app folder and sideload it right from dropbox on mt g-tab. Works great for me and I have a backup or the app also.

Hi,
The webpage says:
"MarketAccess, as well as MarketEnabler requires root available on the device. It means than you need to unlock your phone and install the su application which will manage permissions for other apps that want to get root on the device. Google for details."
Jim
I tried this to look for a specific app. Upon further inspection I don't see anything in there using this that wasn't in there using the Market Fix. Am I missing something? For what its worth, I'm looking for Colorize Widgets.
Thanks for your reply Jim. I must have misunderstood. I thought ecatapano's fix avoided using MarketAccess and MarketEnabler by accessing and "drop boxing" apks from an Android phone then sideloading them to the g-tab through drop box. I just don't know how to get the apks from the Droid to the drop box.

I've seen mention of using Astro file manager to backup, which I guess puts the APK on sdcard, then you have to have dropbox installed on your Droid, and you can then send the APK to dropbox.

I installed the market enabler,or whatever its called. I defaulted to t mobile as my carrier. I'm not certain what you are supposed to do for setup after that. So I went back into Market and found Colorize Widgets. I'm not convinced market enabler had any influence though. Any feedback on using market enabler is appreciated.

[Edit][Fix for issues with GPS and other apps] HD2 Netflix Master Hack.

First of all, read everything! Second, click the link to see a picture of what the build.prop should look like. And lastly, I am not responsible for you being lazy and inpatient.
First of all, I take no credit for it, I just want to move it here for other users who might have not seen it. All credit goes to Sprintusa.
This even makes the quality of Netflix even better! Just follow the link to the post which was posted inside a thread of the Android Apps forum. I used it and it worked great!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13952218&postcount=722
EDIT: I will re-do all my steps and check if this still functions. I will post results here.
EDIT 2: Okay, so here's something strange, before I even went back to the original build.prop settings I uninstalled Netflix from my apps. Then went into the Market and downloaded the Netflix app from there and it worked fine for me. As I'm writing this South Park (Dances with Smurfs) is streaming perfectly.
EDIT 3: I re-did everything except for use the APK listed in the link. I didn't use any APK. After I edited the original build.prop settings I saved and rebooted. Went into Market and installed Netflix from there. I can say that this works on my HD2 running latest Hyperdroid CM7. The only issue would be that the Stock Navigation app disappears. And some issues with a few apps.
PLEASE MAKE SURE TO TYPE IN "machimachi" INSTEAD OF "mahimahi"
FINAL EDIT:Okay so I figured out how to get Netflix working and all other apps that seemed to have issues to remain fine. It's rather a simple task but I will write out everything step by step in this post.
STEP ONE: Edit build.prop settings to;
ro.product.model=Nexus One
ro.product.brand=google
ro.product.name=passion
ro.product.device=passion
ro.product.board=machimachi
ro.product.manufacture=HTC
After you do so, tap the menu button and select Save & Exit, it should also save a backup copy of the original build.prop. Make sure it does because it's needed for later! Afterwards reboot phone.
STEP 2: This is an easy step, after phone reboots, go to the Market and Netflix should be there, download it. Now sign in and make sure you watch something, please do this so it can register on the Netflix site that you're on a Nexus One. After you do so, exit Netflix.
STEP 3:Now go back to your build.prop file, hold on it and select "delete."
Make sure you do NOT delete the one that says "build.prop.bak."
Okay, all you have to do now is hold onto the file build.prop.bak and rename if to "build.prop"
The icon should change back to the original build.prop icon. Now reboot phone!
And Whaaaa-Laaaaa! Netflix working as well as all other apps that were affected by the Master hack.
Worked fine for me, my TyphooN build wouldn't show it in the market.
Used ES Explorer to edit the build.prop file (enable writable root in settings).

This hack does work but be aware of odd issues noted afterward.
I edited my build prop file exactly as shown in the post and installed the posted apk, and although the attached screenshot shows "mahimahi" not "machimachi" as the post itself shows I used machimachi. But on my hd2 when I shut off and restarted the phone I found these settings immediately breaks the GPS and makes my stock navigation (blue arrow) icon and its associated app. Inoperable. So I reverted back to my original build prop settings, saved, rebooted. Then downloaded the uppdated Netflix app (will add link to this post when I find it again), and Netflix, GPS, Navigation icon and it's app works normally again.

[Q] How can I download DeadSpace?

After reading some positive reviews and seeing a video showing it working on a TouchPad running Android, I decided to buy DeadSpace. I made the purchase through market.android.com, but I can't download it because the Market app says it's not compatible with my device. Does anyone have a recommendation for how to download this game now that I've bought it? Can I change the device ID or something to make the market think my TouchPad is something that is compatible?
Thanks!

So now that it's installed, the game starts and says it needs to download 300+MB. I tell it to do so and it immediately shows an empty dialog with only an "Exit" button, after which it exits. I can't get past that. Any ideas?
Also, I installed Chainfire3D and the Nvidia plugin. Is that necessary? Is that correct for the TouchPad? Is there any other configuration that I should do for this to work well?
Thanks much for the help!
You could try the other plugins powervr or qualcomm
Glad you were able to get it downloaded. Not sure on the download issue though.
If you have another supported device you could try downloading the files on it and moving them over - or see if someone has posted the sdcard files somewhere.
Have the exact same issue with Dead Space. Asphalt 6 HD works like a charm though. I'm looking for answers but I get the same response.... wash, rinse, repeat (wipe, clear cache, repeat thrice...)
Haven't tried doing the 3-peat yet. If anyone else has and has achieved success after having the same issue with this game, let us know!

Success! Took a while though.....
So I updated my build.prop to the Pyramid device... (sorry, no link where I found that, but GT-i9100 should do fine too). Then I side loaded the main apk like suggested in previous threads. Then I copied the root folder from my Evo where I already had it installed to my PC and transferred the folder to my TP like it was already fully installed.
From there it still said my device wasn't supported, so I installed the powervr plugin for chainfire3d, used in-app settings through chainfire.
Here's where it got weird: I kept getting the same error over and over of my device not being supported. Then my wifi connected and when I ran the game, it immediately searched for an update. Apparently it found one! Suddenly I'm up and running, smooth as silk.
Now gonna try Real Racing 2!

Anyone know a solution for this? I'm getting the same issue. I'm running Jensen 2.8 lite with the buildprop changes and also installed chainfire3d with all the pluggins. No go
Okay, I used my Nook Color to download the data, transferred that back to the TouchPad, and launched it successfully. When it starts rendering 3D, though, it's all white with no textures. What Chainfire3D settings are folks using on the TouchPad that work?
I have read somewhere to use the following option for chainfire 3D as this is the GPU-manufacturer:
qualcomm
it may be worth a try.

Yeah, I've tried all three plugins with the various options enabled and disabled. No go. Has anyone gotten this going with A3.5? Between this and the lockups in Currents and other Webkit apps, I'm strongly considering going back to the previous alpha.
Okay, I finally got this working. I moved back to A2.1 which didn't actually fix anything (though it does seem to have resolved the lockups in Webkit-based apps like Google Reader and Currents, though they're not as smooth when they're working), but then I purchased the full version of Chainfire 3D and launched Dead Space using per-app settings. Suddenly it worked perfectly! I don't know why that would make a difference...perhaps I just didn't know how to use the free version. Either way, $4 is a small price to pay for the added flexibility of the full version of Chainfire 3D, and of course now I have a working, silky smooth Dead Space! Woohoo!
UPDATE: Okay, I know the magic incantation now. This works under A3.5 (and therefore presumably XRON) just fine if you use the PowerVR plugin in ChainFire 3D. I didn't have to reduce texture quality or anything else, just set the plug-in to PowerVR. I hope this helps others get this really nice looking game going on their TouchPads!

EA Games

Sorry if this has been posted before, I did a search, but couldn't find anything...
I bought a few of the EA games back when the market had a sale, and I've gotten Shadowgun and Dead Space to work on the 03/22 nightly with Rohan's super mod pack (build.prop is spoofed as a Galaxy S II, I think), but the Play store keeps telling me that my device is incompatible with Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. I can find it on the store, view the page and all, but it keeps saying "Your device is incompatible with this version." It's available on a legit Galaxy S II, so I'm wondering if this incompatibility is due to the build.prop missing some other entry or if it's just the market being silly. Any help is appreciated.
Very surprised you got Dead Space working, I have not been able to get a single EA Game to work on my TP. I get 5002 errors and I have even tried to side load the SD data with no luck...

I just ended up side loading the SD data from a friend's tablet, it worked fine. I did have to change the Chainfire plugin to nVidia before it would run though. On PowerVR, the entire screen went white.
Perfect thread. I was about to ask what device name should be used in build prop to allow Dead Space to run. I had it running briefly on my Nook Color but went back to a standard build prop. Does anybody have the line handy in build prop with a device name that I could try? (Like a Galaxy or what not)

The model I'm using is the SGH-t989, the TMobile Galaxy S II. If you boot into recovery and flash this mod (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1519161), it should give you a working build.prop. Sorry I don't have the actual lines handy, but I got mine from the mod.

I got Dead Space working using the Modpack from the link above and then installing Chainfire3D Pro setting the Per-App feature with the NVIDIA plugin. Graphics are mind blowing on my TP!
It was money well spent for the App.

Just where do I get the nVidia plugin....just how do I properly install it on Chainfire3d?

Plugins are here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1443794
I highly recommend installing the pro version of Chainfire3D and using the Per-App feature for each game and plugin.
Installing: After downloading the plugins to your directory, run the app and select install plugins/shaders. The app will run a tedious search for the zip files and present you with the results, then just select the plugins you want installed.
After the plugins are installed I suggest you reboot then run the game.
Best,
Going back to the original question, anyone know why NFS:HP isn't working on the Touchpad? Spoofed as a GS2, running ICS nightly 03/22 and Rohan's Supermod pack.
I'll give the new Rohan mods a try.
To those who have successfully installed dead space; do you notice hitching, especially when moving laterally with the graphics? Its not game breaking but it definitely isn't smooth when I have played it

It's working fine for me. I haven't had much time to play lately, but as of chapter 3, there's been no graphical artifacts using the nVidia plugin.
Bumping the NFS:HP issue though. No one has any sliver of an idea? I'd really hate to have bought it for nothing.

Dead Space works great for me, I guess I don't know what you mean by "hitching".
As for NFS, I have NFS: Shift and not Hot Pursuit.. I was able to get Shift working with the NVIDIA plugin using Chainfire, the game starts out good with menus, setting, options what not but when it comes to race time the accelerometer on the Touchpad seems to only work correctly while holding the Touchpad in a portrait position all the while the game continues to play out in landscape mode. Gets rough on your neck after a few laps..hehe
As for getting the APK and data onto your Touchpad requires a little extra work on your part.
I used "Bluetooth File transfer" (free in the market) to get the NFS apk sent from my LG G2x over to my Touchpad.
I installed BTFT onto both the devices so as to avoid issues with transfering.
From my G2x:
1) Using BTFT, Menu >More >Send Applications >select NFS > Send
2) Find your Touchpad on the list of BT Devices that comes up - if none then Menu >Search Devices (Make sure your TP is discoverable first)
Once the APK is sent over to your TP you can install it. I think the Default file transfer directorythat BTFT uses is "/SDCard".
Next you will need to send over the Data Files from the Game. The location is Android>Data>
Find the folder that looks something like "com.eamobile.nfs_hotpursuit" OR simular for NFS Shift it was "com.eamobile.nfsshift_na_wf".
Copy the complete folder to the same directory on your Touchpad.
If you don't have the folder in that directory on your phone then you have yet to download the data needed to run the game.
DO That first then go back and follow the steps.
Sound confusing enough? Good coz I'm just as lost! hehe..
G'luck
Haven't had a chance to side load it yet, but I'm bumping to see if anyone has any idea as to why the Play store won't let a Galaxy S II download NFS.
You can always just download it via touchpad and side load to phone if phone isn't compatible.

Heres a good tutorial on changing your build.prop. This guy has a lot of good videos by the way.

The phone is compatible, but I'm using a Touchpad that's spoofed as a GS2 in the build.prop. Which is why I'm confused the Play store won't let me download it on to my Touchpad.
