I dont know if they did this or not but i cant get some software to activate and im beginning to wonder if some ports are blocked on there wifi chip or something to that extent

i have been playing with this application for the past 4 hours
and it will JUST NOT connect! im pretty sure ive reached that point
where you keep trying everything u can, but eventually you end up with
a web of mistakes and have no idea where to begin to finish...so, lets
get to it...
- i am at school. i live across the street from campus, far enough to
where my g1 wont pick up the wifi signal, so configuring the app via
wifi isnt even an option...
so i go to the FAQs and there seems to be a way to operate the program
via the cell network without using a router...great because i dont
have one...but when i read the instructions, it starts telling me
stuff ABOUT a router...
"2.Log into your router and go to the port forwarding section (it
might be called NAT settings, or Application and Gaming). "
...where am i supposed to go to do this? i have set up ICS, i have
googled google for "port forwarding" "nat settings" "nat configuration
in windows xp", ive even used the BS help and support that comes with
windows, im going nowhere. can somebody PLEASE help me figure this
out? i want to use gmote over t-mobiles internet connection, and it seems like you can do this from what the FAQs told me...any help will be appreciated
Yeah the faq doesn't make sense, have you tried the developer directly or checking their google group? They are pretty quick to respond
On my home pc i just needed to know the ip addresss of my machine. Since this is a campus network, its possible that only particular ports are open. the port that gmote uses may be blocked.
The FAQ is a little confusing, but its not that difficult to work out
That is true, given that bittorrent and Ares are known for not running on campus...how do I figure out what ports ARE open?? I guess google will help
cant you just connect to the ip number of your computer?
Thats what Im trying to do, but Im now assuming that the ports are blocked because I cant get thru no matter what. I ran netstat and tried to figure it out but it was Russian to me
From what I understand of the program, you have to be on the same network. I may be wrong, but if you are on a different subnet, then you're SOL.
Like I said, could be wrong, but that's what I heard.
So last semeester my nexus had no problem connecting to my schools WPA network. But now all the sudden i cant connect. My laptop connects just the same as it always did (so i dont think its an issue with the network) has anyone had an troubles with WPA2 Enterprise recently? I have been flashing a few roms lately, but it didn't work on CM6 or Enothmers.
Ok so after doing some reasearch it appears that this is something that the Froyo update broke. This is very aggrivating not being able to connect. My schools network is 802.1x EAP and I cant connect to it after the Froyo update. This is BS. Anyone have this and solve it?
I've *never* gotten on my work Wifi..
Hidden SSID
802.1x
EAP=TTLS
auth=PAP
It just never sees the network as the above which I've set... When it does see the network, it thinks it's WEP.
yeah, im not sure what the heck happened in the Froyo update but no matter what settings i put it too. I know my password and user is correct because I am using the same login on my laptop (and yes we can login multiple times)
Ok so there is an Issue on googles website devoted to this topic here:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1386 for anyone having this issue (or would like to add a comment anyway to support people who are) please post here

BTW in my case I wasn't clear; I've never gotten it to work on Eclair or Froyo. Same exact behavior. So are you saying this worked for you before, but not now? Odd... Must be slightly different configuration than mine, or that bug post..
And yes, that post is the one.. Now that I've finally rooted my phone, maybe I'll try tweaking some files per that bug...
supposidly CM6 RC3 has a fix for this, but I havent gotten around to checking yet, if you do find a non rom dependent fix please let me know (i dont use CM).

Well, the bug you logged has wpa_supplicant configuration which people say should work, it (AFAIK) is not ROM dependent, but does require root of course.
I might try this today and see what happens. Unfortunately i'll still be stuck here at work as all external connections require a (non-transparent) proxy to work, and Android doesn't handle that well either, but there are some things I'd like to be able to do internally if I needed to, such as IM or hitting an internal web page.
I frequently use the nexus one as a hotspot/network for me and my friends to play LAN games. and until now it would be only 4 of us. a few days back we tried to connect 6 of us, but it didnt work. apparently the hotspot has a limit of 5 devices. seems a bit weird, since i assumed it would be an even number..
is there anyway to change the maximum number of devices?like altering some configuration value?
and please dont tell me to buy a proper wireless access point, because i know that is a solution, and i just want to see if i can continue and use about 6 computers with my nexus one first before buying an AP
I believe T-Mobile said their hotspot thing is limited to 5 connections by default.
I'm not on T-mobile,but on Three, Australia. But i guess if T-mobile said that, and I've experienced 5 being the maximum then I guess it must be five. wonder whether there is some hack to get aroudn it..
Hi there !
I just bought a used smartphone for someone in the family. Got a good price for it because it does not boot because of a broken power button. I will fix it shortly. I was just wondering ( my parano side of me ) if the phone was used in the past for malicious stuff such as hacking or whatever, if I connect to a network or wifi , is there a chance that the phone could be "reported" such as used for stuff like that i don't know? For example if it's being traced because of malicious activities. Are extra precautions needed ? Such as proxies , vpn , spoofing deactivating stuff etc ?? Out of the blue I thought about this after buying a used phone from a stranger and i've never bought a used phone before.
Thanks!!
I wouldn't worry about it, if the phone was used for something malicious then it would
be very foolish of the criminal to sell it to someone else. Because in that case the device is
essentially a piece of evidence against him.
When you connect to a network your phone is identifiable trough its MAC address but that is only
visible to router you connect to. If you want there are plenty of tools in the playstore that allow you
to spoof your MAC address.
The other way the phone can be traced trough its IMEI number
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Mobile_Station_Equipment_Identity
There is an APP that claims to be able to change the IMEI, XPOSED IMEI Changer, no idea if that
actually works.
Thanks for your reply. So basically no worries on wifi but over a network maybe. I guess i'll just give it a try over a network. There's a lot of foolish people out there, but I guess if you want to do malicious stuff you would certainly not expose yourself on a mobile network but on a wifi instead with all the spoofing business.
Btw, is'nt it illegal to spoof an IMEI ? I've heard so... Maybe i'm wrong.
Thanks again.
Typo in thread title, my fault, im hulk angry.
Has anyone else had issues with ethernet through type-c? I have ran this setup for nearly a year. Suddenly, I cannot get any connectivity. I recognize the ethernet just fine, but it keeps telling me its not setup, tap to setup. but I always have used the same config, auto and no proxy. Never had issues, nothing else has changed. My gut is telling me one of the many system updates has led to this. Because I have changed nothing at all on my end, devoptions the same, RNDIS protocol, I see the icon, but no data moving. Never happened like this before.
Since less then 1% of all phone users ever use this function of ethernet through USB dongle, I have found little support/ideas.
Hoping someone here might know. I hate samsung and this BS, always breaking something that works.

Try doing this in the dialer pad *#0808# and tap RNDIS+DM+MODEM that's all I can think of.
