[Q] Bell I9000M: An Unlock Does Not Exist. Prove Me Wrong. [SOLVED!!!] - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a newer I9000M on JH2 from November and I haven't yet found a way to unlock it that works. Every single strategy I've found on this forum is a dead end. While my handset from September unlocked easily, every newer version I've had cannot be unlocked.
I've upgraded to JK4, downgraded to JH2, tried JPO, gone back to JH2, but nothing works.
It is my belief that everyone with a newer Bell handset is also finding it impossible to unlock. So rather than have us all waste time trying to find a solution that doesn't exist. Let's just admit it:
It doesn't exist.
Right or wrong?
UPDATE:
There is a solution (thanks to the ingenious Happy Hunter) but its not easy and not for noobs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...postcount=1202. You can't unlock the I9000M to use on any provider, but you can "change" the lock from Bell to your provider.
It failed for me numerous times until I rebooted my computer and followed the directions literally step-by-step. If you deviate slightly from his method (i.e. use z4root instead of SuperOneClick, or type the wrong text), you will fail.
Still waiting for a universal unlock or automated solution, but am satisfied with this for the time being!

i got a new motherboard after it got back from repaired can back w firmware JK4, and there is no way you can unlock it, the only way to do it is use hex editor and edit the nv_data.bin file to locked to a network your sim card is on, thats the only solution right now.

Try this...

You must have an older Bell SGS. The app doesn't work for phones with a newer manufacturing date.

I noticed after I relocked mine that's I couldn't unlock it again. One of the threads noted you can use the unlock code to lock to a different network as needed.

Yeah, I just got my phone back last night after being repaired - I tried to use the app (for some reason my Bell prepaid with $0 on it was able to access data for free), I got the unlock code, but it said something along the lines of "Network authentication error" when I tried to do it.

Anymore info on this procedure?
Edit: You don't have to use a hex editor, but it seems re-locking your phone to another network is the only way.

I did the "no-sim" method and it worked enough that I'm back on rogers.

i think i broke my phone :( help needed

hi all
i thought i would attempt to flash my samsung s with the new beta froyo update.
i followed this guys tutorial.
( cant link to it sorry its the noobs guide with detailed instructions through kies and odin)
i used the odin approach
i managed to root the phone.
on reboot it asked for an unlock code (o2 uk) so i went on to try and follow the steps about unlocking it. which neither worked all the way through the steps.
on reboot it appears to have signal and in the about section it says i am onnected to the o2 network but when i try to make a call is says "data network not available with an ok button, which when pressed will return you to the ome screen.
any help would be greatly appreciated thanks
Almost the same problem,
installed 2.2 update successfully, the phone worked for like 3-4 days very well and after that today i discovered "Emergency calls only"
so the question now is did i bought phone which later was reported stolen? or somehow i broke it?
Anyone have any idea?
hmmm, I have the same problem! In the status menu, the number is shown, but the network, says "unknown"
Hi! I have this exact same problem except I was unlocking my phone using this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=906255
But I didn't back up my Efs folder, now my phone is unlocked but when I put a sim card in it I have very little network and when I try to make a call I get " NO DATA NETWORK AVAILABLE".
I've tried everything but I don't know what to do!
I was thinking of two ways to fix it:
1. Reinstall froyo (not quite sure how using the samsung software as my laptop oesn't recognised the phone as a pone)
2. Downgrade to, get unlock code using market app and then upgrade to froyo again.
I know I messed up but now I really need to fix this.
Can someone PLEASE PLEASE help me out.

might need to change the modem in odin i think. just heard about it
did u try restarting the phone... just a wild guess...
I had the same issue before and was puzzled. Its actually a very simple solution:
1. Re-lock your phone, search through xda there is a code you have to enter
2. Unlock your phone
All done! Surprisingly easy
Try the Odin method in block 2 back to Eclair if ok then upgrade to Froyo .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818556
However your non connection might be due to not flashing a firmware with your network settings in which case manual settings of APN .
If your IMEI has changed due to flashing and you did not back up your EFS folder then little hope but do a google / search of XDA as some have reported success .

Emergency calls only
I had a custom rom that was giving that to me too. I think it means that you can access a network different from your sim (because usually emerg calls can be made from any phone I think?).
I'd try and find a rom that is optimized for your carrier or at least a modem file from a stock rom that is for your carrier. You may also need to reselect the APN settings (or enter them for your carrier). Its under settings/wireless and network/Mobile networks/access point names (use the menu button to add an APN).
you could also try re downloading and flashing the rom to make sure that is the issue. Mine said it installed OK but never booted up, redownloaded and reflashed and then it was fine but the install screens looked identical.

Hi! Thank you so much for everyone's replies!
My IMEI isn't changed and someone helped me check my efs files and they are all ok. I'm going to try and reflash froyo through the samsung software to see if the network lock comes back and then try to unlock again. For this I'm going to unroot the phone and follow samsungs' instructions.
I'm afraid to relock the phone as there are reports that say it completely messes everything up!
But I'll keep you guys posted! Wish me luck!!!!
PS. Any other suggestions are more than welcome!
So, a quick update on my situation.
I uninstalled busybox and unrooted my phone using the oneclick root tool.
Did a factory format and, surprise surprise, my phone now works perfectly!
Apart from the fact that it doesn't connect to kies, but that's a whole another issue!
Tank you so much to all of you who answered my cry for help!

[Q] [Help] Upgrading to I9000XXJPC via KIES/ODIN ORANGE branded set locked.

Hi all.
My wife has an Orange branded Samsung Galaxy-S and she was complaining about the lag she was having. After applying the One Click Lag Fix she wasn't too satisfied so I decided to look into updating it to one of the Beta Froyo ROM's and found the following guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769400 (I now know this isn't the latest version of 2.2 for the Galaxy-S and that the guide is old!)
I first attempted to do so via KIES which left me in a Force close loop of Touchwiz and other apps so I then flashed via ODIN which was successful except my wife's Galaxy wasn't accepting her Orange sim as the simlock had changed.
I then looked into my efs folder to find that my nv_data.bin and the backup were recent (I assume this is because of the two flashes, KIES and ODIN) and my original data.bin is lost.
The only thing holding me back now is the unlock code (it was unlocked before) and for some reason I can't generate an unlock code as it is now.
When I replace the older nv_data with the newer one the phone reboots but with a generic IMEI but no simlock. When I use the older one, the phone has the correct IMEI but the sim lock is present.
Is there any way around this at all? Would a paid IMEI unlock code be possible to get around the sim lock? I'm not sure if such a thing even exists.
Any and all help appreciated.

Apologies if this is too similar to this thread. That does sound like the same issue as I am having.
More info: According to SGS Toolbox, my current nv_data.bin has a product code I9000HKDORA which I believe is the correct one for an Orange branded handset. Does this mean this could be my original nv_data.bin?

I did try that first of all and that's when I lost my IMEI number.
I've now turned on my wifes Galaxy with my Orange sim in it and it seems to be recieving texts. MY sim works fine in my old SonyEricsson phone (calls and SMS) but the Galaxy won't do anything as it keeps asking for an unlock code.
Thanks for the reply!

i think my captivate got an automatic update.
How do i know the nvdata.bin file has been deleted?
is there anyway to unlock if the nvdata.bin has been deleted ?
FYI I ran the market app from " DaGentooBoy" which also not able to find the unlock code. am I screwed ?
Why do you want to unlock?
Are you planning on switching to another GSM carrier or going overseas?
Are you planning on selling the phone on eBay and buying a different phone?
Or do you only want to unlock for the sake of saying you have an unlocked phone?
If you answered no, no, and yes (in that order) to any of those questions then you don't NEED to unlock.
Also, it was documented that upgrading to JH7 or JI6 deleted the nvdata.bin file from your phone, thus eliminating the possibilty of unlocking after you upgraded. You should have done it straight from JF6 when you got the phone, and backed up that file for future use. It pays to read and research.

Follow the One-Click Unlock guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761751
One way the unlock code could have gone missing is if the owner of the Captivate flashed to the leaked Froyo build and back to stock. As it is a leaked build it couldn't have been automatic afaik.
mine is a JH7 phone and i got the unlock code =D. at first i couldnt find it by the PC method. it wouldnt work. it gave me an error sagint the nv_file.bin wasnt there. and i searched for it and it wasnt. i thought i was screwed so factory reset, then i rooted my phone, enable sideloading using unleash the beast. After all that, i went to android market and search for "froyo" and supprisingly i found a unlocker that worked. (looks like a padlock perhaps 5th in the list) i installed it and ran it, IT FOUND IT!!! was so happy since im not even in USA and i can use it on any provider =D

I don't think it will get a signal on Tmo's 3G system, so why would you want to use it on Tmo's edge anyways?

You are correct. T-Mo's 3G frequency is different from AT&T's. T-Mo uses the 1700/2100Mhz range for their 3G while AT&T uses the 850/1900Mhz range. The only frequency range the companies share is the 900Mhz band which is 2G

Issue following the unlocking for AT&T thread...

Ok first off I apologize for posting this in two places, however not sure this issue is related to the unlocking method or "unbricking" method I used...
Anyway, here goes:
I just acquired a Droid 3. I went ahead and followed the directions from here and obtained an unlock code from moto4unlock.com - $6USD and was sent to me within 30 min.
The first time I followed this thread, every time I inserted my ATT sim (prior to unlocking) I would get the "Unlock Code Screen" where it forces you to input the unlock code. After obtaining the unlock code from above, I went ahead and unlocked. What was surprising, is it did not tell me "Unlock Fail" like this thread stated it would - it actually said unlock successful.
Anyway, moving forward - I went ahead and completed the rest of the steps. After updating the build.prop file, I was able to make calls, and data worked. Well, I had purchased this phone for my mother and wanted to remove my google account and use hers. I didn't realize I couldn't just "remove" the account, instead it was telling me I had to do a hard reset. I went ahead and reset the phone and noticed I couldn't obtain a network signal.
So, I followed these steps to go back to Stock Firmware - I noticed after the install completed, I got a roaming triangle with my att sim and vodafone/verizon sim. (Prior to doing it the first time, I never had a roaming signal so no idea why it has one now)
What I also noticed is when I inserted my ATT sim it did not prompt me to "unlock" the phone again like it did the first time.
So I continued with the rest of the steps. After flashing the new radio and updating the Build.Prop, I get a red circle with a line through it over the signal bars. I've selected GSM/UMTS and no luck...
Any ideas ?
Might be the same flash method, but I would try the fast/easy unbrick method from the development forum. I've used it many times and it has never failed me. Then try the radio flash and build.prop edit again and see if it works. Be sure to make other build.prop edits found in the original unlock thread, since some of those will help set the preferred network on boot to be gsm/umts instead of global.
Now, if the phone is unlocked successfully (by Verizon code, for example, which it seems to be), resetting will not undo this. It's permanent as far as I know. It needs to have a connection to a valid Verizon line while the code is inputted, just fyi. If this is the problem, maybe the code you paid for didn't permanently unlock the device? Many people have had issues unlocking through third party codes, so that's the only reason I bring it up.
I'm not using this tweak anymore since I'm back on Verizon now, but I don't remember ever having the icon you mentioned pop up in the status bar.
Good luck.

[Q] Samsung Captivate unlock issues

Hi,
I have a Samsung Captivate that I am trying to unlock. Its out of contract with AT&T and so I called them to get the unlock code. They provided the unlock code. I have a non-AT&T sim card from an overseas trip few years back. I insert this sim card and restart the phone and it asks me to enter the unlock code but am unable to unlock with this code - keep getting "unlock request unsuccessful".
I also got the unlock code for my wife's Captivate from AT&T. Using the same non-AT&T sim card in her phone, when I entered the unlock code provided, I was able to unlock her phone successfully.
Additional info if it helps:
1. My phone is running the official Gingerbread from Samsung whereas my wife's phone is running the original Eclair (with the one OTA update that was initially provided by AT&T).
2. I had rooted both phones when both were running Eclair. However, I lost root access on my phone when upgraded to Gingerbread whereas her phone still has root access. I have not rooted my phone since upgrading to Gingerbread.
3. When I had rooted both phones on Eclair, I had come across a method to inspect the efs/nv_data.bin file manually on this forum to get the unlock code:
Code:
su
busybox grep -E "^[0-9]{8}$" /efs/nv_data.bin
The unlock codes retrieved with above method for both phones are the same as those provided by AT&T recently.
Question is why I am unable to unlock my phone whereas we didnt have any problems unlocking my wife's phone. Would upgrading to the official Gingerbread ROM (non-rooted) from Samsung have anything to do with it?
I had read somewhere that Samsung had encrypted something (bootloader?) with the Gingerbread update for the Captivate that prevented it from being rooted the same way that the Captivate could be rooted with Eclair. Could this be related to why I am unable to unlock my device?
Another thought is whether I would need a different unlock code that works with Gingerbread? I am thinking this is unlikely as my undertanding is that the unlock code is determined by the IMEI number and not the ROM?
Anyway, would appreciate any help/feedback on what I can do to unlock my phone.
Thanks,
-Topper
P.S. Since I tried multiple times to unlock the device unsuccessfully (by entering non-AT&T sim, trying with #7465625*638* code, etc), it shows that I only have one try left to try and unlock the phone.
There are many threads where they describe how to unlock Captivate using manual method i.e. hex editing nv_data.bin file in /efs folder of your phone.
You have to root your phone first if not done so already. Also back up your efs folder on your sdcard and/or your PC. This is a very important step. If you mess up your efs in future(for any reason like while flashing a rom or whatever), you can always restore this folder from your back up. Also back up another copy after you're successful with unlocking that way you can go back to original efs or the unlocked one.
You may use the instructions in this thread to unlock it even though it's for SGS III:

Thanks! I had subscribed to the original thread here but had forgotten all about it. Rooted my phone (still gingerbread) per another thread, unlocked manually as per above thread & confirmed by putting T-Mobile Sim card that both phones work as expected. Glad to see the manual process above still works on sgs iii - so maybe it will work on the exhilarate too.
