Hi,
I really need some help as I began to get crazy about this.
I also have to mention it's my first time into Root/Mod/Custom/etc...
I Have a GT-I9000M (BELL) with Android 2.2 (version FROYO.UGJK4) Kernel 2.6.32.9
I successfully Rooted the phone with Superoneclic (Have Super User app in menu)
I Installed Rom Manager 3.0.0.0 Then authorized sudo when prompted to do it.
After that in the recovery menu of Rom Manager i've downloaded the Clockworkmod thing. (2.5.1.2)
I've tried to boot into clockworkmod but I got the standard Recovery Boot from Samsung instead. (tried to re-install rom manager to see if work but no)
I also tried to install it by using the update.zip version got here http://www.multiupload.com/5CUIK88JM0 and put it at the root of the internal sd.
Booted into the Samsung Recovery Boot and press apply Update.zip then i got
the following error:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborded
(Tried Twice still nothing new)
The goal of all this is to install Darkys_v6.0_Gingerbread_Edition_Voodoo_signed seen here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814091
What do I do wrong???? Help me please i'm tired of the Android Froyo version from Samsung+Bell
To get ClockWorkMod compatibility, you need to use ROM Manager to start them.
This way, Voodoo recognize it's CWM recovery, intercept the call to the update.zip and install Ext4 wrappers.
If the new version is not yet available in ROM, be patient
I found the recovery app doesn't work very well. I suggest installing a kernel with CWM , that's compatible with Bell hardware? via Odin and you're good to go. From recovery menu you can do anything, including a full backup.

You can find the thread called 'CFroot' at the android development section.
Download the correct version based on your current firmware and follow the instructions there. When you are done, your recovery would be 2e.

Sorry dude, the only solution would be to flash to an Eclair ROM (which by default has a 2e recovery) or flash Froyo which is supported by CFroot.
I have the same issue as well. Wanted to try Darky's v6.0 rom, however stucked in getting to CWM since I'm on 3e. I did look at CFRoot, but nothing stated for JK4.

This Might Work.... Although I Have A Different Phone (Cdma Hero), But Had A Similar Issue....
The Way I Was Able To Correct My Problem Was To Re-Install A Older Version Of "Rom Manager" (Let Me Know If You Have or Need A Older Version, I Keep'em All Now!! Lol!!
Also In "Rom Manager" I Would Try To Flash Alternate Recovery, And Then Clockwork Recovery Right After!! Make Sure It Says *Current Recovery* -And- *Latest Recovery* (Up At The Top) Then Try To Boot Into Recovery!!

Fresh Start
Ok well I got a good night of sleep so i'll resume where I am
I learned yesterday the following:
CMW: Clockworkmod
OCLF: One Clic Lag Fix
Now what I could try is to get back to Original Firmware of the GT-I9000M (Eclair) and from then what I've understood is that I don't need 2e recovery? Am I right?
From then I could install Darky without anything.
By going back this way will i'll stay root of will I have to root again?
If all this is right, how do i go back to eclair? can it be done via the 3e recovery menu or I have to flash? Is so I don't know anything about odin and the way it work so i'll need your help loll

here's what I did now:
Used Odin and Flashed my firmware to the previous one (2.1 Eclair.UGJH2)
Re-rooted
Re-installed Rom Manager
When in recovery mode i see 2e but it's the recovery from Samsung. Can't see the CWM......
Think i'm pretty close compared to yesterday from Darky 6.0 but STILL NEED CMW lolll
Fist timer Root and Flash never easy lolll
OK GUYS GOOD NEWS!!!!
Don't know what I did but CWM WORK NOW!!!!
What i've read somewhere is to never open the zip files (what i did). Got the idea of flushing them and download it again. This time it worked.
Gonna let you know when running Darky
----!!!!WORKING!!!!----
I Have Darky 6.0 Running on my Bell GT-I9000M!!!!!
First I want to thanx everyone of you who helped me out! You've been a great help.
Also I want to get the summary of my actions so Others could take advantage of this thread.
-Froyo version FROYO.UGJK4 (that is the official GT-I9000M update from BELL Mobility) was painfull to do anything so I downgraded to the eclair.UGJH2 (that is the Original Firmware from Bell)
First I've Rooted my phone using Superoneclic 1.5.5.0 that you can find here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682 (enable debuging mode on the phone in Settings-applications-developpement-debuging) then plug the phone and on superoneclic press ROOT...wait and follow indications
Then went to ODIN 1.7 that you can find here
http://www.general-search.com/fileinfo/20192867
You can find the BELL 2.1 firmware
here http://www.multiupload.com/ZNBT2RY5Y0 Password is samsung-firmwares.com
In odin i've used the 512.pit file (place it in the Pit section)
Then placed the 2.1 Firmware in the PDA section.
Took care Repartition, auto-reboot, F.Reset Time check box was check.
Booted in download mode (to get it right with odin i've booted in recovery first: Vol Up+Home+Power when bootscreen appear released it. After Pressed on Reboot now and immediatly pressed Vol DOWN+HOME+Power) I GOT THE BIG YELLOW LOGO OF ANDROID and in ODIN i got the Yellow icon appeared.
At this moment I've pressed START in odin and waited. The phone was acting like when updating through Kies.
When finished I was on ECLAIR
After, I've Re-Rooted the phone with superoneclic again.
Installed Rom Manager
Downloaded the CMW (CLockworkmod) that you can find here:
http://www.multiupload.com/5CUIK88JM0 (DON'T OPEN THIS ZIP BECAUSE IT WILL BREAK THE SIGNATURE NEEDED TO VALIDATE THE FILE)
I've placed the update.zip file (CMW) at the root of the internal SD Card of the phone and rebooted into recovery mode. I went on the apply update.zip (first time it was not working, then second time it worked)
At this moment I was on Android 2.1, Rooted, and CWM Recovery was working.
To Install the Darky's v6.0 Gingerbread Edition, I've downloaded it here:
http://www.multiupload.com/YPQVS4WO9C (ONCE AGAIN DON'T OPEN THE ZIP)
I've placed it at the root of the phone (same place than update.zip)
Opened Rom Manager, and selected Install a Rom from SD Card.
I've selected the zip File and applied it.
Phone went into recovery mode by itself then started installing Darky. (took like 5 minutes but it is said to be between 5-10 minutes so...)
HURRAY I'M ON DARKY CUSTOM ROM!!!!
PS: (at boot screen GT-I9000M will change to GT-I9000), Boot Screen Animation will also change for the Nexus One Boot animation.
Took me a day and half from Noob to This but hope other Bell user (or SGS user) will find their solution here.
Now let me alone I have to play with my new toy lolll
Just got back home. I will follow your footsteps. Do you have 850 mhz band ?
You with Bell ? Any problem making and receiving calls using Darky's rom ?
Followed your steps. Now I'm running Darky's v6.0 rom.
Even if it's a Bell phone, i'm using it on rogers.
I don't have any band problems(yes i have the 850 band). In fact, since i'm on Darky it look like if the wifi and phone antenna is far better. I got reception in places i wasn't before...and can even say GPS lock my position accuratly in less than 10 sec
Everything is.better since darky run on my phone

Hey, can you please clarify the ODIN steps? I have the exact same problem seen here.
I've completed up until where you put the phone in download mode. I set up ODIN as described, then connected my phone via USB, then enetered Download mode - but I only get a yellow icon on the phone, not in ODIN. Have I gone wrong somewhere?

I've never flashed a rom before. I currently have stock froyo with the paragon kernel i flashed using the app sgs kernel flasher. I have clockwork mod rom manager, I created a backup of my current rom. So then I tried installing the serendipity rom from the sd card but i get an error message. I read on the sticky on how to flash a custom ROM you need to use ODIN and flash back to stock 2.1 then do a master wipe and re root it and stuff.
Their link to download ODIN is broken so I don't know how to get it. And is there really no other way to flash it besides doing a master wipe and using ODIN?
flash to stock and master clear is not needed. what IS needed are specifics on WHAT error message you get when trying to flash the rom you want
The error message is
"E: failed to verify whole-file signature"
"E: signature verification failed"
"Installation aborted"
Then it brings be to the blue menu so i just select reboot system now
bad download, re-download rom.
May be completely off, but it doesn't sound like you're actually in clockwork mod recovery, but rather stock recovery.
But here's the post with the one click odin with mirrors and I personally would suggest useing it since I generally like to stick to as clean a flash as I can:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989
Second, I don't know if you've ever seen MobileTechVids tutorial on how to flash custom roms, but I suggest you watch the full series first if you haven't already.
here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsafJ-9uRqk
I watch the series and try and stick as close to the tut as I can when I'm unsure (or the one provided by the Rom maker as they know what's best for their rom)...
One suggestion, when flashing Serendipity disconnect your phone from cable right before the actual flashing (gave me a glitch in which I couldn't mount storage via usb). Other than that, read read read. I feel it's all I do when it comes to this stuff, but proper research is indispensible.

Ok I got the stock rom flashed back and rooted it using one click. Now for some reason I can't reboot into clockwork recovery mode. I flashed it successfully. So i click on reboot into recovery and nothing happens. I try clicking on install room from sd card and that doesnt work either
Power off, hold 3 buttons att screen will come on. Keep holding. Screen will go off. Keep holding. Screen comes on again let off the power button but keep the volumes held, this will boot you into stock recovery, since you said you flashed cwm already I'm assuming you mean with rom manager, so the update.zip should be on your sdcard, so just reinstall packages twice and you should boot into cwm.

On serendipities main "download" page they have instructions to install. In those instructions is a link to a file you can download. Place that file along with the serendipity 6.3.zip file in the root of your sd card. Use the " 3 button" technique or Rom managers "reboot to recovery" option to get into stock recovery. Hit "reinstall packages" once/possibly twice. That will put you into clockwork mod recovery. Select install zip from sd card, find the serendipity6.3.zip and click power to flash. Confirm. And after it does some stuff it will ask you to reboot. Upon reboot it will as if you want to enable lagfix. Hit plain "Yes". Watch it do its thing and viola...
You have the "dirty" way of how to flash serendipity... But first I please ask you to spend atleast a day reading this forum or others and understanding these instructions and the reasons behind them.
followed instructions off the website and still doesn't work
I was running 2.2 and have done a lot of reading a video watching (thanks Mobile Tech videos) and finally conjured the guts to flash serendipity.
I flashed stock using odin...that went great. Copied the update.zip to sd card. Installed zip twice in 2e recovery. Copied Serendipity.zip file to sd card. started in recovery mode, selected "install from sdcard" selected serendipity.zip file and it seemed to go through that process rather quickly. Then I selected reboot and then everything just started FCing all over the place. Can't even load the stock that I had on there. I don't know what to do. Help please. I can get it back into recovery mode. Tried doing the wipe data/factory reset. That did help either. Help please. I really want to try serendipity. Thanks again in advanced.
Did you run a restore using TiBu at all? Or was it just a straight flash from stock to Serendipity?
Plus, were you running a phone that came with 2.2 out of the box? Or did you upgrade to stock Froyo yourself?

I did run TB and I had originally flashed up to froyo (took me all night one night) and then went through the process I explained and hit the dead end. I finally was able to get odin to read the phone and flash back to stock. It was a learning process. I realized that I needed not only the Serendipity_6.3.zip file but ALSO the kitchen file to included with it. That wasn't in the directions I don't think. Finally got it all on there. I love it now. I appreciate everyone's help. Any word on a how-to for Bluedipity?
Hi there,
Since gingerbread with most probably be the last update for SGS i would like to install a custom mod.
Now i have been trying to do this (darky 10 RC4) for the past 2 days.
I followed Darky's instructions then i had a problem with the CWM only accepting "edified" script.
So i downloaded rom manger and tried to downgrade ta 2.5 but as soon as i tap on the 2.5 it immediately comes up with an error, "an error occured while flashing your recovery."
this is done on a 2.3.3 JVB SGS with CWM 3 installed (orange text).
Are there alternate routes? maybe downgrading to android 2.2 installing an older version of darky and than upgrading the darky rom?
any help is much appreciated.
thanks
Download the rom CWM-zip and put it in your internal sdcard.
Download some froyo-kernel (yes, froyo) with CWM 2.5. Speedmod for example. Then flash it with Odin repartition and auto-reboot unticked. When the flashing process is completed, pull the battery and then boot to recovery (3 button combo). Now you have CWM 2.5 and you can flash the CWM-zip from there.
thanks, i wil try that.

Sorry. With CWM-zip I meant the Darky's Rom.zip, which can be flashed through CWM.
it didnt work, u just gave up.
hopefully some new rom update that is edified will show up in a couple of months
Install supercurio hacked kernel, it has recovery 2.5 instead of 3.0.0.5. From there you should be able to install darky's rom. If the new version of his kernel is recovery 3, tell me i'll send the old one just for the purpose.

and lag fixed with CF-Root-ext4-v1.2
and it forking worked red text 2.5 THANKS A BUNCH!
edit just a problema. it is only booting in CWM.
reattempting this without the lag fix.
2nd attempt with PDA_I9000XWJVB - PHONE_I9000XXJVK - CSC_I9000XEEJV3
and without lag fix not rooting.
phone stuck looping at booting with strange sound on each boot loop
3rd attempt with rooting, but no lagfix
If you are only rebooting in recovery, did you flash the new kernel, then reboot recovery ? if yes, the easy way to get out, is to reboot in download then reflash the wanted kernel (Since your rom is installed, you can install any kernel (GB of course)) then, it will reboot in recovery again and just reboot system now. This should fix your problem.
edit : Dont forget to get CF-root 3.1 for JVB and not JVK.

^^ sorry the above link is not a link. I'm on my phone and for some reason copied links only seem to actually paste as links half the time.
Read this [HOW TO] e:signature verification error/aka 3e recovery mod and workarounds , it's well documented
As for a kernel, most 2.2 kerenls have CWM built into them, so , go back to the thread you choose your rom from and see if the Dev has recommended one , if not keep reading to see what the majority of people are using. The Dev will also explain the best way to flash said kernel and rom. I'm going to assume this is your first flash so read, read, read ! And if you are still not comfortable go to youtube and search for specific rom , there is probably a vid on how to.
My bad, look under this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161102 [HOW TO] e:signature verification error/aka 3e recovery mod and workarounds
Having some issues as well.
I'm rooted on stock froyo from ATT. I have installed the no sig recovery file so i can flash cwm following instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052991
and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909213
to no avail. After reflashing cwm, I try to reboot into recovery and my phone gets stuck on att splash screen...wtf !!!
I cannot use odin since i don't have access to a pc and heimdall does not work on my mac...sigh...
Help anybody ??
update to my problem: I re-installed stock recovery file in /system/bin and I can't go back to the 3e recovery screen using any of the buttons combo methods ( and i used to be able to?!!_)
Ok remedied my own problems and hopefully this will help others
(mods feel free to move this to anywhere relevant since i cannot post to dev)
After hours of frustration, victory!!!
as stated above I have an att captivate stock froyo 2.2 rooted with superoneclick
when I used the 3 button combo it allowed me to go into 3e recovery (useless)
when I installed the 3e mod recovery no sig http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909213 I was no longer able to enter 3e recovery using any of the 3 button combo methods (see post above) and therefore I could not reinstall packages and flash CWM. Trying to reboot into recovery from Rom Manager did not work either (stuck everytime on att splash screen!)
What finally did it was replacing recovery file with method in above thread, flashing cwm and then booting into recovery with adb: adb reboot recovery
I then choose the option to reinstall packages twice and there it is CWM...Bingo
I used SuperOneClick to root my phone, and now I'm looking through the Captivate Guide to see what else I can do with an unrooted phone. I started with Rom Manager.
So I clicked "Flash Clockwork Mod Recovery," and it was fine. I select my phone (Galaxy S - Captivate, not the Captivate MTD). I pressed "Backup Current ROM," but when I press "Okay," it restarts my phone to the blue menu. So I press "reset phone now," and I try to start from the beginning again. According to the guide, it says to restart it until it works. It's rebooting each time instead with no change. When I go to manage and restore backups, nothing is listed.
When I load up Rom Manager, under "Flash Clockwork Mod Recovery," it just says
"Current recovery: Clockwork mod 2.5.1.2
Latest Recovery: Clockwork mod 2.5.1.2"
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I'm using stock 2.2 Froyo and GO Launcher with Cartoon Theme (if that matters).
I've already tried TRusselo's method regarding the 3e issue with stock 2.2 phones: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052991
Do I need SGS Kernel Flasher? If so, what kernel do I need?
/EDIT: Check my post 5 for my latest issue.
Why not just flash a KB1 kernel with cwm in it? I know Desing Gears cog 4.x.x kernels works, and probably eXistZ's kb1 kernel as well. They have cwm cooked in the + few other things like Voodoo, etc.
Also I believe your supposed to click install package as well. I could be wrong since its been a long while since I've used that method.

I'm much too amateur with phones to do that.
The only reason I decided to finally root my phone was because my warranty is up, and because I found TheUnlocker's youtube account + Captivate guide. I figured with step-by-step instructions, there's no way I could screw up. Boy, was I wrong.

I plan to use Cyanogenmod 7 eventually. The reason I haven't flashed a ROM is because I'm not 100% sure how yet. That's why I'm taking lots of small steps.
A lot of these ROMs also mention Odin, which I didn't use. I used SuperOneClick.
I went online and tried to flash my phone according to this guy's steps:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KvCxdYZ0nk
Okay, so even though I followed all of his steps, I get to the part where I'm supposed to find the MIUI file in my SD card, and it doesn't exist... even though I transferred it over. How come my phone doesn't recognize it? Phone is barely functional at the moment after I flashed it back to 2.1, and I'm encountering a lot of lag/bugs. If I plug in my phone to my computer without Debugging on, it fails to download drivers.
Does anyone know the best fix out of this situation?
Hi,
After some help please, I am trying to upgrade from android 2.1 to gingerbread.
I have managed to get root access on my Samsung galaxy S i9000. I did this using the 'Galaxy S I9000 One-Click Root.exe' tool.
Then I installed Rom Manager via an .apk install (couldn't find the free version in the market for some reason).
After this I downloaded the busybox installer/updater and updated busybox to the latest version available.
Now I am having problems as when I run rom manager and try to run 'Flash Clockworkmod recovery' it goes through the process and when I reboot into recovery (using rom manager as I can't get into recovery using three button combo) it doesn't have the CWM recovery its just the standard one.
Also if I try to backup current rom (thinking this is a nandroid backup?) it reboots into recovery and just sits there and doesn't do anything.
Can someone please help, tried doing lots of research but am getting very confused as to what to do next.
Thanks in advance.
Boost. Haven't you heard....its the new bump!
Any help would be much appreciated.
Check Ramads stock collection:

1.) Backup /efs folder
2.) Check that USB driver is working OK when connecting SGS to Windows in download mode
(no? - disconnect, find drivers, download, install)
Yes? :
3.) Flash in download mode using Odin + 512.pit + 2.3.x ROM + Sbl
You must use ROM with Sbl.bin = 2.3.x bootloader when going 2.1 -> 2.3
If no download mode by pressing (vol- home pwr), use XDA search for this fix.

Hi,
Thanks for the response.
I have now managed to successfully fix the three button combo issue so can get into download mode and have backup my efs folder.
Before I flash I would like to do a nandroid backup. I installed rom manager but still can't get CWM to install sucessfully. It says download successful when run from the rom manager option (flash CWM recovery) but when the phone reboots the CWM isn't there is just the stock options. Any ideas as to why this is or how to fix?
Many thanks in advance.
I have sorted my nandroid backup. I didn't realise that once you downloaded the CWM you had to do a manual install from stock recovery using the update.zip. Soon as i did this it was ok.
Now going to flash using odin v1.82 + 512.pit and Gingerbread 2.3.5 europe rom GT_I9000_XFJVA_XXJVT_OXFJV1_Sbl
Will make sure re-partition is checked.
Hopefully all will go well. Will post update after update.

HI,
I have now sucessfully upgraded to Gingerbread 2.3.5 europe rom GT_I9000_XFJVA_XXJVT_OXFJV1_Sbl
the problem I'm having now is when someone calls the screen just goes black (it doesn't turn off) and I can't answer the call. Also when the call ends there is no record of it in the missed calls so i can'e even see who it was who was calling.
Please help asap as I cant answer any calls or ring them back to tell them.
Thanks
All ok now. I did a factory reset which has sorted it. Phew! lol
