Whats up with the facebook inbox on android? I am trying to have a conversation with about 20 people in regards to new years plans... the conversation only shows so many messages and doesnt load anymore? In the message preview I can see the latest message, but going into the actual conversation doesnt load anything past a certain point....
Bug?
Not that I have seen. I assume it is happening even after uninstalling and reinstalling.

I've actually had this happen as well. Occurs when I click the message thread when the app hasn't fully loaded. I just gave up and I use the browser version
Turns out android has a 30 message per thread limit in facebook... Lame.
Yea, I noticed this issue too. If you go to the mobile website, you can see the entire thread there. For some reason, in the facebook app, you can not see everything. this needs to be fixed along with the facebook chat that does not work for me in the facebook app either.

I've recently starting using the built-in Google Talk client and I'm kind of annoyed that I can't seem to clear out conversations when I'm done with them. I don't want anybody who picks up my phone to be able to read through all my IM conversations.
From the Friend List screen you can long-press on an open chat and select "End Chat" but literally all that does is gets rid of the white speech bubble under their name. If you click on the name after you've ended the chat, the full conversation is still there!
I tried going onto the Gmail site on my computer and disabling chat history. That makes it impossible to look up the contents of chats from the gmail website, but the Android Google Talk app will still save old conversations locally.
I'm starting to get annoyed, this seems like a pretty serious breach of privacy. It seems like your old chats will be cleared out after there's been no activity for a certain period of time (24 hours maybe) but it's seriously annoying that I have no way to clear it out manually.
A lot of it is just organization, I hate to see an old conversation when I scroll up through a conversation that happened later. I delete my text messages pretty regularly for the same reason. Has anybody figured out how to do this?
Menu. More. Sign out.
Start google talk again and no more conversations.
The android application stores the chats untill you sign out. Or force closes.
I guess that's better than nothing, but that's still extremely lame. What if I'd like to leave some conversations open but close other ones? This just seems like a poorly designed app to me. Hopefully Google irons things out a little bit in a future release.
Yeah i know it's lame. You can also hit "off the record" from the conversation window.
Quit handing your phone out to idiots you don't trust, I guess ?
Haven't seen a way to clear the convos one by one, I doubt there is one.
Hello...
I tried signing off and on.. and convos are still there!!
any help?
Only way i have been able ro do..and takes forever if you chat a lot..
Click on convo...then more...clear chat history...then options ... then end chat

That is a crap ****. I really would like it to store conversations forever. Of course there is no possibility of doing it is it?
Does whatsapp have the same behavior?
Hey,
Facebook app on WP sucks. Can someone make a proper messenger app with geolocation, support for read receipts etc? Something like iPhone and Android have. I'm sikc and tiered of this current app that wastes space and looks uggly. Push notifactions that work would be also a bonus.
Just an idea. If wished, I would not mind a proper facebook app in genreal aswell but I can handle the lack of that, if messenger app would exist.

Yeah, but "who cares" for chat, we just want an messenger app that iOS and Android have. I really, really miss that feature on my 8X, not only that push notifications does not work, but also, we are not able to send or receive any file/picture via it !

Push Notification does work.... I am not missing any fb chat message however it's lagging couple of seconds.
Microsoft is not a copycat. They are trying to be original and bring something new to the end users.
Everything has to be intergrated in the people hub. Whatsapp is an exception since it uses your phone number to communicate with the other party; so is Tango.
Keep in mind that WP8 was meant to be compatible with Windows 8 where all your contacts are now integrated into your live messenger.
well the facebook app does not always work. most of the time its fine.. but sometimes its just a pain. messages send online are not displayed.
sometimes messages are not displayed at all. some contact i can write messages to and they dont receive all of them..i evne have contact that dont receive any of my messages.
its supposed to support on and offline fb messages.. not sure if that works correctly

If your contact is offline they wont get messages. In all other scenarios, they do receive your messages.
A dedicated Facebook Messenger app is needed because
1. the built in Facebook Chat lacks several important features (most importantly group messages) and is unreliable. Also doesn't show previous messages that weren't sent using the built in chat.
2. the normal Facebook app has several issues when it comes to messages, including annoying error popups and no notificaitions.
There is an app called FIM, I haven't tried it yet.
Just two simple questions:
Why there is not Facebook Messenger for Windows Phone? Android has it, iphone has it and even Black Berry. Why Windows doesn't?
Why all Facebook apps have serious problems catching and showing notifications? The only one that atm works well is JTD for Facebook, and so I suppose is it possible to make it working.
Am I missing something?
First of all, Facebook messaging is built into the OS. You don't need a separate app at all.
Second, there is a Facebook IM/Chat app ("fim chat"), at least on WP7. I admit that I don't see it in the WP8 store yet.
Third, there are a number of other apps (IM+ being probably the most popular) that implement Facebook messaging.

Hi!
thank you for your answer!
The built in Facebook messaging system works really bad: (correct me if I' m not right) it works only if you decide to stay online (so offline msg doesnt work properly) and it doesn't work in receving messages from people that are not in your friend list
The same happens for IM+, you can't chat while you are offline and neither you can chat with people not in your friend list.
For these things I asked "why?"
I' m really interested in knowing if there is something that I missing (like maybe something that afflict Facebook chat that makes it difficult in being developed in third part apps)
I really like wp 8, it has great potential and stuff but it's hard for me to figure out why it misses some must-working apps
FB Chat in IM+ is, I believe, just implemented using Jabber/XMPP (I think that's the underlying transport of FB IMs, at least). Support for receiving offline messages (which I believe Fim has) probably requires deeper integration with the service. Mind you, I see no reason to sign out of FB on the phone, and you can get messages even when the app isn't running (IM+ push notifications work fine for me, though the app in general is a bit slow and clunky).
My biggest issue with any of the facebook apps, is that there is always an issue where notifications never come in promptly when I have my status set to appear offline. On the os end, the closest I can get while being able to see friends online is having it set to Away.
I'm looking for a Windows Phone 8 Facebook app that will allow me to view and send photos in the chat window - Does such an app even exist
And I don't want one that just sends a link to a photo for someone to click on
Im new to android and the N6. I have just finished transferring my text messages from my iphone to N6. Everything seemed to go smoothly, except that it would not let me delete any text messages. I then updated the messenger app as I noticed there was an update available for it. Now when I open the app, it says that it is "fetching conversations." It has been stuck at this screen for over 30 min. I have tried closing the app, restarting the device, anything I could think, but my text messages won't show up. Any advice on how I can fix this?
Thanks

Did you remove your phone number from the dumb Imessage server so it would actually work on android? Apple used to purposely cause issues when people switched.

I was trying to do this but was not able to receive the code from apple via text. Then i started having the issues with the messenger app. For whatever reason it is not able to pull up my texts. The problem, im guessing, lies within the app.
well it magically started working. I guess it just took forever to load all of my text messages from file.

I'm glad it finally started working for you. Apple likes making things a hassle from past experience. (ITunes music...)
So I haven't used an android phone since the HTC Hero and I'm not sure what is causing this. It doesn't do it to everyone so far and it doesn't seem to follow any pattern but here's what happens.
This afternoon I started a new text thread with my daughter and sent her 2 SMS messages using the messenger app. She responded a couple of hours later however her response came in an entirely newly created SMS thread within messenger. And she also mentioned she only received 1 of the 2 messages I sent.
This continues to happen randomly with different people. Both starting of a new thread when they reply and having not received all of my messages from the new SMS thread I had created to contact them.
I've only had this phone for a couple of days so I'm really trying to get used to it and stick with android again.
Thanks in advance!
Alright, we are going to have to take this step by step and just use the process of elimination for this.
When you are in your contacts, are there multiple contacts for your daughter? Example, Jainy and Jainy?
If there are multiple ones, one could contain only her email or with another app's contact system (example, Skype), and another instance of her contact could contain her number. So if you sent a SMS with to the wrong one, it could have never been sent.
While you are doing that, check the other contacts that it happens with.
I did check that, that's the first thing I thought it could be and there are no duplicates at all for her, or anyone else that I can see. Within her contact info particularly, it's just her phone number and no other data.

Have you tried another SMS app? Like Textra SMS or similar? Maybe the problem could lie within the app itself because I remember on the Zenfone 2, sometimes messages wouldn't send with one messenger but would be perfectly fine with another.
I haven't yet. And while I can certainly try it, I wouldn't want to use that as a fix you know what I mean? I haven't seen anyone complaining of it with this phone although a Google search reveals similar questions among a barrage of android phones but no solutions that I've seen that would apply to me.

Sorry, late reply. Didn't see this thread get updated. Use the reply button under my post to quote it so that I'll get a notification when you reply.
Yeah, I see what you mean, you could even try clearing the data and cache of the messaging app too and see that fixes it as well. But when that was an issue, I never found a solution either other than it seems to happen randomly on some phones without the user doing much.
Only solution that fixes it was other SMS messengers, but then that is also a thing to figure out as to what is causing the problem. All messaging apps read from one file that has all the messages so it might be a problem in how it is being handled by the app. I know that sometimes when I restore my SMS messages to a new phone, I have to uninstall and reinstall the messaging app because it is not displaying the messages under the correct thread.
Any reason you don't want to use a different app? Textra, chomp, and Google messenger will all do basically the same thing, slightly different colors and settings, but if one works and the other doesn't, you have a solution. I bounce between those apps on different devices without a problem.
