Hey All,
First I would like to start of by saying sorry if there is a thread on this and I have not found it from hours of searching for an answer.
So let me tell you the problem/point I am at with my Nexus One and need help.
So I rooted my phone a while back and for some time I was running the
CyanogenMod and then used Rom Manager to return to the stock image FRF91 from there updated to FRFG83D. I now want to get back into the rooted world and Amon_Ra's Recovery. Each time I try to enter into recovery mod I get the droid with a big '!'
I have tried to use SuperOneClick and it keep sitting on
Running rageagainstthecage...
ROOTED
Getting mount path...
tried 1-click does not work also.
Please help
Anyone help please

You only need to ask once. Asking multiple times is not going to get anyone to help you any faster... All you'll do is annoy people.
The "droid with the big !" as you put it is the stock recovery. When you flash a stock ROM, it re-installs the stock recovery, unless you delete two files.
Anyway, you need to delete /system/etc/install-recovery.sh and /system/recovery-from-boot.p and then flash a custom recovery. You obviously need root to delete those two files.
See attachments for how to root and flash a custom recovery, without unlocking your bootloader.
Thanx and do not wish to be a pain, I thought I got my nexus to a point were I could not do a think.
Will try it out and let you know.
Thanks

I did this like 2 days ago too. Super one click root does work. I confirmed. You just only need to set up your driver and your adb right.

Please help!!! My charger port broke and I need to unroot to take it to Cellular South to see if they can fix it. I am running CM 6.1 and I rooted with Z4root. I saved it on my phone with Titanium Backup. When I click on it all it says is root. Well i figured if I try to reroot it, it will recognize that I am already rooted and then give me the option to unroot but all it does is reboots and reinstalls the current ROM. When I go back to Z4root it says the same thing, root. I also was going to get the original RUU from Cell South but I can't hook my phone up to the computer to finish the process cause of my charger port is broken. Please help me!!! If I failed to give you all the info you need, let me know and I will give you the missing info. Thanks in advance!!!
have your tried running the ruu through adb using adb wireless?
How do you do that?
I downloaded the RUU from Cell South and tried to install it from recovery mode but it just went back to the current ROM again.
there is a progam called adb wireless.... havent done any of this myself but i would guess its the same as running the ruu in adb connected through usb.
check here for ruu commands in adb
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=688820 the app is in market i do believe
hope i not confusing you or leading you down the wrong path but is just an idea you can try

You don't run an RUU from recovery, or from the phone at all.
Do you have fast boot working??? If so there's a zip you can flash from h boot to return to stock.

I downloaded the adb wireless but not sure what to do with it.

Isn't fast boot where I press and hold power button and volume up? If so then yes it works but not sure how to use it. The only thing I use it for is when is says (menu) Recovery. I use it to send me to recovery mode sometimes.

What is this androidsdk I keep hearing about? I actually got help rooting with the good folks from phandroid forums. Maybe y'all use this androidsdk in your rooting method and Phandroid does not and I'm missing that and that us why I can't figure out what y'all are talking about. Just thinking...
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Give me a sec to boot up I'll post you some links on how to get the android sdk. Adb wireless wont work without it. I've never used that app so not sure on how it works. And fast boot is when you have s-off. When you hold your volume down and power before you hit the button for recovery it will say in the top left hand corner or right, if you have s-off or s-on. To use fast boot you have to have s-off.
Something.About.Me.U.Dont.Like.

I just checked and it says S-on.

It's going to take a lot of reading sorry for the wait time had to take my wife to work. If you need any other help I will try my best. Well good luck.
On the first step, do I do everything or just download the ADB SDK? Sorry, I hate to sound like such a noob but I don't want to mess this up!

Is there a easier way to Root your captivate, I have tried several one click or different ways and have had no luck. Anybody can help me with this or point me in the right direction that works? the one click app don't work I really want to add and run other apps.
And also the KIES software does not work it never did. I really don't like the software even after trying the lite version. I like Droid Explorer. Oh yea this is on a 2.2 Froy OS

Have you considered joining the party and flashing a custom ROM? They all come prerooted to make your lives easier. At least I know my ROMS, MikeyMikes and anything by designgears does. I have not tried the rest yet.
I would definitely follow adam's advice and just flash a new rom. here is a good tutorial to help you get started:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
Adam's roms are great as well as DG's. Give one of them a try and realize how good of a phone the captivate really is.
Paragon is pre rooted also.

OP said one click doesn't work for him lol but op have you enabled usb debugging before trying out one click? Just asking to make sure. Although I recommend going the custom rom route as well

If you are that stuck on rooting only, and one click really doesnt work for you (thats a first).
Google root captivate. A root update.zip should be very easy to find, put it on your internal sd card, reboot into recovery mode and select reinstall packages.
Id post one, but i am on my phone...
^ not going to be able to root on stock froyo at the recovery 3e wont let you install unsigned zips. The one workaround to this would be flashing a custom kernel via ODIN and then using that custom recovery to root.
Doh! I missed that.
Maybe odin to 2.1, and install a custom rom / kernel package...
I spent literally 7 hours trying to root my phone. I tried Alpha revX, the new superoneclick and this other method. I cant seem to get it. Maybe because I am just really tired but this is getting really frustrating. I managed to get my phone to S-OFF with Alpha rev but nothing else. Anyone have any successful attemps .. please tell me I am dying over here
Thanks!!

AlphaRevX only gives you S-OFF and I believe can now install ClockworkMod. To actually root your existing ROM, use need to flash rmk-superuser-v1.0.0.zip using ClockworkMod.
Ok so not to sound stupid but what do they mean by flash it to your phnne?

In this particular case, Flash = Use ClockworkMod to install a zip file that you have copied to your SD card.
So the order here is install clockwork mode first in order to root.my phone ?

Sorry, I thought the current version of the AlphaRevX software allowed you to install ClockworkMod, too. If you didn't install ClockworkMod during the AlphaRevX S-OFF process, then yes you need to install ClockworkMod Recovery in order to install the rmk-superuser zip file.
Yeah I can't believe I pressed.no when it asked me to download it. Would have saved me a lot of trouble .. now i am downloading the Android ask and avd manager to door my phone.

I'm not sure it will let you get that far. AlphaRevX will detect that you are already S-OFF and exit the program from what I understand.
Why on earth is it so difficult to download recovery and root the phone. Ive been at this for another 3 hours and got nowhere. I am not a total noob but I am following Alphas instructions and it is saying that my recovery image isnt there when I boot in fastboot mode. Arrrghhhh!
Any other suggestions?

You aren't the first that I've heard of this problem. What CWM are you using? The one I posted earlier today in the superguide (VER2) or the one that was in there before?

slap, there hasnt been another recovery released that i am aware of.
ver 2 of my CWM root was only to root via CWM, it doesnt replace recovery.
This is my first htc and Im not even sure how to flash anything using fastboot. Im so used to booting into cwm recovery and flashing from that. I know there isn't a recovery already built for the vivid but if someone could point me to the right thread on how to get into the recovery Im accustomed to Im sure I could figure the rest out

Ah you are correct, my apologies. Or maybe he's using the other CWM apparently floating around that doesn't have the battery indicator issues .
But my fault, I forgot what I wrote in my own thread! imitenotbecrazy, go to the thread that Pirateghost specified, read up on everything. Also, I have written down some things just in case you have that backup issue. Try this...
- IF YOU ARE HAVING ISSUES WITH BACKING UP, pull the battery, boot back into recovery (power + vol down then select recovery) and try again. OR you may have to boot up and delete the old partial backups with a file explorer and try again. OR make sure your USB is no longer connected and try again.

Are you sure it was a root.rar because that doesn't exist for the t679 and cant be flashed in recovery. Check to make sure you have the t679 not t759 and if you do, use this http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_Exhibit_4G to return to stock, but make sure to read before doing anything.
Edit: to elaborate on the .rar .tar can be flashed with Odin, but that is NOT for the exhibit 2 the exhibit has .zip made by jocala, .rar i don't think can be flashed any way

Thanks so much. That helped!! It was the T679. The root was a .zip file but as Im not very root suave I must have made a mistake some where in the steps. I think Ill reframe from trying to root my phone in the future. Too many confusing steps.
Now I thought this phone was the easiest to root compared to the G1 and the HTC Espresso. The latter being worse. This is just two steps, flash root, flash recovery. Done unless you want a custom rom, then flash rom & gapps.

Well I have never done a root before and I was really overwhelmed with all the information for rooting it. The forum I was on that provided the root info seemed to be more then just two steps.

That is because there were multiple methods although now only one works after the update to android 2.3.6 this is the easiest phone i have ever rooted although the nexus 7 was also easy. HTC phones are a bit harder to root and much harder to flash anything to.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
It doesn't help that with HTC phones to get true root you need to achieve s-off. The locked bootloaders are a pain. I was kind of glad I didn't gave to deal with that with this phone. Although the lack of fast boot means less custom splash screens.
