[Q] modding APKs and ODEX files

Hi, just have a question regarding modding apks inside /app in odexed roms.
Have read a few threads regarding deodexing and decompiling apks, and just wish to clarify one thing:
For apks which have a corresponding odex file, is it possible to modify them without deodexing the whole rom? Intend to edit some xml files in the Contacts.apk file but wasn't sure of the exact procedure.
Here's what I tried:
1. Used xultimate to deodex
2. Used apktool to decompile apk
3. Edited xml
4. Used apktool to compile
5. Added META-INF and AndroidManifest.xml from original apk using 7zip
6. Deleted Contacts.apk and Contacts.odex
7. Copied Contacts.apk over

I am also interested in the answer ...
I would like to theme some widgets and theme the statusbar on a stock ROM. I am not sure is it possible ? And what is the procedure with the odexed files ?

I have addded Swedish to the Simply Stock TW4 version.
Install instructions:
1. Install TW4_JVT_DEODEXED_TMOBILE_SIMPLY_STOCK from previous post.
2. Replace TouchWiz30Launcher.apk with the one attached in this post.
3. Done.
I also found a ShareApp.apk that where missing when you tried the Share app option in the launcher.

[Q] how to change contacts and phone theme from black to white ICS rom

hello,
is there any why to change the contacts and the phone theme ?
i see there is a file caled contacts.apk and a file called phone.apk.
my problem is that i have it themed in black on my i9100 s2 phone and i can't chaned the backround to white
can i copy those files to galaxy S2 I9000 from i9000 with white themed files ?
my i9000 runs - [ROM][IMM76I][4.0.4][AOSP] ICS333 1.0.2 | Team 3xtr3m3 | Fast,stable,easy (5/16/2012)
MY S2 - I9100 runs - [ROM][14/05][AOKP] · ▀▄ · .Hydяa-H²o v1.1.2 - IMM76I · ICS-4.0.4

Download the latest gaapps from rootwiki remove all app from the zip file except phone and contact and flash it through recovery and you are done.

i'm gonna take the contacts.apk , phone.apk and mms.apk from the white themed rom system/app folder and zip them in a regular flash zip file.
my question is - do i need to mess with the framework.jar ?
also theres a contatsprovider.apk file and telephonyprovider.apk file - do i need them too ?

No, you can flash those but take backup so in case anything goes wrong you can revert back.

CM9 Core Apps (for AOSP ROMS, might work on sense)

ok so i extracted some apps from the latest CM9 build for the HTC Sensation, these apps include:
CMWallpapers.apk
DeskClock.apk
Development.apk
LiveWallpapersPicker.apk
Settings.apk
SettingsProvider.apk
SoundRecorder.apk
ThemeChooser.apk
ThemeManager.apk
Trebuchet.apk
Just mover them to system/app
MAKE SURE TO DELETE THESE APPS AFTER MOVING:
com.android.deskclock.apk
com.android.providers.settings.apk
com.android.settings.apk
com.android.wallpaper.livepicker.apk
and maybe com.htc.provider.settings.apk.. i didnt but you can im not sure of the affect though
the apps were tested and installed on virtuous inquisiton 4.0.2.1

System Apps from 4.1.2 [DOWNLOAD]

Hey people,
I extracted the system apps from 4.1.2 and try to install them on my old Defy (with root). I was able to replace calculator and browser, most apps won't install but i think i can find a solution . So I uploaded the apks on MEGA.
maybe some of you can try that on older devices too and on 4x with 4.0.4.
