Ok, so I bought my phone in China. Tried it out and it seemed to be a real phone. The IMEI number and the device number was the same as on the box. But some weeks later I noticed that the language on the box was in German but the phone had a asian software.
And it have never been updated... But now android 2.2 out I really want to update my phone. RUU didn't work, I just get a message "customer id error". Is there any other way?
MY sofware number is 1.15.707.1
Make a goldcard and try the ruu again.

Dear all
I write this post as I hope to get some input and some expert suggestions on the course of action I should take with my phone.
For many years I have been supplied with a phone through my company but it seems to be always the crappy old Nokia. Good for making telephone calls but worthless for anything else.
So recently I bought a Galaxy S on a business trip to China. I love the phone, it works and by now I have almost no Chinese letters and applications left anymore. This is really something else; I'll never go back to the company Nokia. Never!
I think most of the applications are working and I have access to the Android Marked. However, Youtube is not installed or working and I think that the GPS is a little off.
Now I read a lot about Froyo and I bet I would want to get that on my phone, I am also pretty sure that I want to get the phone totally de-Chinese and preferably into something Danish or at least English.
What do I do next?
I have been reading so much on this site that I am getting dizzy. Flashing, rooting, updating, kies(hey, I actually got it working now (again) ) Odin, JM1, JPK etc.
Now my phone has the following;
ProductCode: I9000HKDVD2
PDA: I9000XXXXX
Phone: I9000BUJG1
CSC: I9000GVD2JG1
SalesCode: VD2
Reading through posts on this forum I never saw anyone with the same codes as mine.
Model number: GT-I9000
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Kernel version: 2.6.29 [email protected] #2
Build number: ECLAIR
As mentioned, I bought the phone in China and I have no idea if it is branded (with Google printed on the back cover) has been unlocked, but I suspect it has. It has been rooted (I have a little black ninja guy giving Superuser Permission) and there is a folder-like icon named "root(and some Chinese letters)"
Well, as I said I have Kies running again. First it was running fine then it stopped connecting to the phone and now after unmounting the external SDcard I can again access the phone from my PC.
Through Kies I can do a firmware update. But should I?
Will it be re-locked?
Will it get all the Chinese stuff back?
Will it somehow be converted into a European phone?
Should I wait for the official Froyo or just go ahead and update?
I can update again when the Froyo finally arrive?
Do I need to make backup of any of my "system" files before doing anything?
Any help suggestions and/or warnings will be appreciated.
If you can do an upgrade through Kies it will aslo tell you what the update is (JG2 for example) since you have what I gues is a chine salescode, you will probably get a chinese update .. What you can do, is goint to the devlopers section and read the topic about spoofing your productcode in the registry so Kies thinks you have phone from another provider / country than that what you have now
I am almost certain that if you can enter an old danish firmware in the registry and a danish productcode you will get offeren a new new danish firmware through kies ..This will not relock your phone ( if it was locked before) as far as I know only the froyo builds will do that.
I have been reading some more on the forum and found that the phone is actually branded.
Model [Country of Origin](Branded Phone Carrier) = Code
I9000 [Germany](Vodafone) = GT-I9000HKDVD2
I have also checked out the 3-button combo which seems to be disabled on my phone. I'll get this fixed before doing anything.
So I want to update to the froyo release and will probably be uding the Kies hack to do this. I'll use the XEE code which I believe will give me the danish language as an option.
Do I need to make backup of some of the system files before doing this?
In some poste there is talk about backing up some system files before upgrading as there is some information which is needed to unlock the phone again.
Well. I am still investigation this issue.
Now I am looking into using odin and firmware from samfirmware . com. Probably to JPA or JPO? Then I have been reading about the DocRambone ROM and will probably try that.
However they suggest to "- Check Simlock and Network lock is OFF *#7465625#". When I do this I am promted with a "Rejected" message.
Can anybody please tell me what this means?
I do not want to start messing with it before I know that the phone will not be locked after flashing to new firmware?
If it will be locked then what is the procedure of unlocking anagin. I have already made backup of the "nv_data.bin.md5" and the "nv_data.bin". Having these files is the same as having backup of the /efs? Reason for asking is that I cannot find /efs on the root of my phone.
Please help!
So on samfirmware you can download the froyo firmware and other files, and now I'm wondering: how safe is it, if I have a branded phone (austria (drei)), to flash the firmware? It says for jpm I need to first flash another firmware from there, so I'd probably do that too.
What does really happen though? Will it be unlocked and/or unbranded, could it break something, and is there a way to backup my firmware in case something goes wrong?
And how would I get it back when flashing breaks something, like if download mode then doesn't work anymore or something.
Oh and, hi I'm new here
I also have the SGS from Drei.at. If you would like to unlock your phone,
it's turned out to be (surprisingly) very easy: just download from market SGS_Unlock.apk.,open it - and you will get your code.
Now, if you want your phone being unbranded and running better than before, but not Froyo although: you can make the registry hack and upgrade to the latest official build via Kies. Here is what I did:
".....I changed registry from
"SoftwareRevision"="I9000NEJG3/I9000DREDRE/I9000NEJG1/I9000NEJG3"
"ProductCode"="GT-I9000HKDDRE"
"HIDSWVER"="I9000NEJG3/I9000DREDRE/I9000NEJG1/I9000NEJG3"
to
"SoftwareRevision"="I9000XXJF3/I9000SWC/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"
"ProductCode"="GT-I9000HKDXEE"
"HIDSWVER"="I9000XXJF3/I9000SWC/I9000XXJF3/I9000XXJF3"
Now after upgrade, I have:
I9000XWJM2/I9000XEEJM1/I9000XXJM1/I9000XWJM2
GT-I9000HKDDRE
the 3 branding is gone, but in the phone it says :
Firmware version:2.1-update1
Build number ECLAIR.XWJM2........"
Now the phone runs much smoother, I don't notice any lags (before I had a lot of problems), and have some minor improvements overall.
The only thing I would like to mention is: now after upgrade, if I am going to Firmware upgrade in Kies, it says: "This device's version cannot be updated" instead of something like before: there is no update, as you are running latest version.... Not sure why this happened, but at-least I know that there some people also got this message.... may be it's because at first I've upgraded the phone and then unlocked it, but I don't know.....
Not sure yet how serious this situation is for upgrading the phone via Kies when Froyo will come out officially, didn't have time to research it... But in the worst scenario I always have the possibility to do it manually - 3 buttons download mode is working.
I know this is not exactly what you were asking for, just thought may be this info also would be any helpful.
Nothing stops you from re-flashing your carriers firmware either, so make sure you have a backup using rom manager or check and see if your original firmware is on samfirmware.
Also, backup your /efs folder just in case, and make note of your apn settings.

This is a really strange combination of firmware.
NE stands for H3G Nordic (Sweden)
Are you sure it was like that?
I900ONEJG3 would make much more sense (-> ONE Austria)

i recently bought a galaxy s i9000 in dubai but i started using it after i came back to india. the first problem was i found that the market app was not there but then i switched the phone to XSG and i got the app.
my problem now is that when i connect to kies and try to update the firmware (iam currently on 2.1 eclair), i get a message saying "this device cannot be updated". can anyone please help me on how to solve this problem without having to root the phone??
Rooting got nothing to do with update .
Check if the Dubai network/provider you bought the phone from has actually got a upgrade to 2.2 . Thats what the phones product code will show the servers for updates .
jje
i have read about phones bought in dubai that have been upgraded. when i approached ssmsung service centre in india regarding this, i was told that they would do it provided i sign a waiver that releases them from any responsibility if the phone doesnt work. the guy there told me there was a 20% chance of the phone bricking up.
is there any way to get the upgrade by changing the product code?

Hi, all XDA users.
I've been waiting to post my problems here and tried a few things I could to fix then with no success.
Here's what happened.
I bought a Captivate in february in an eletronics store in Miami, and since I am from Brazil, at the time my only concern was to make sure the device was unlocked, so I tested my sim card and was OK.
So my problems started as I went back to my country, the phone works good, but some issues appeared and they are kind of major for a device like that. Here they are:
I can't download from the market ever since I bought the phone. From a wifi conection or 3G . That was disturbing me so I did the factory reset and that allowed me to use the market for a while, something like 10 minutes maybe, before started giving me the "download was unsuccessful" error. And I did the factory reset a few times . But that was only a taste .
I also can't update my phone from the 2.1 eclair to 2.2 froyo or whatever is available, through Mini Kies, always getting the "unregistered device" message, before anyone asks I tried that in a Win XP and a Win 7 64 .
I tried to do the update several times but I was never able to enter download mode on the phone.
I installed some apps using the Sideload Wonder Machine, since I wasn't able to do it using SDK tools . Perhaps because of the Win 7 64?
So I decided to leave the IPhone for this device for its greater hardware capacity and because of the Android OS overall improvement, but I can't do much with it now, and since I am totally noob, I don't really know if my device was rooted before I bought, I don't know If the best thing to do is to flash stock and start over.
Didn't flash because I am afraid of bricking it.
The one thing I know is that I was able to get rid of all the crap from AT&T and nothing changed in my phone, and I heard that I needed to be rooted to be able to do what I did.!?! Is that true? Please help.
Here are some info about my phone.
Firmware version: 2.1 update 1
Kernel version : 2.6.29
Samsung SGH-I897
Baseband Version : I897UCJF6
Thanks all for your time .
Kies Mini is for US updates. Did you try the full version of Kies? Might work for you there.
Mobile Phone's Software & Manual
Will flashing a new modem help? Did you check network settings? Call company and switch to that region. I don't know. Just some suggestions.

I did try the full version, but I will do it again in a XP version of windows and tell what happens .
I am downloading it from the brazilian samsung domain (.com.br) .
I tried again to use the regular Kies but didn't work.
It kept saying my device is not supported .
Funny thing is that in the Kies website, as you change the country flag in the bottom of the screen, the supported devices also changes, and in Brazil there is only a "Wave" called line of devices, while seems that the cappy I can only find in Canada. My point is that the Captivate IS supported.
I had a similar problem when a bad ROM flash borked my IMEI and product code. Chances are good that whoever unlocked your phone ended up screwing this up. Check out this guide to restore a specific IMEI to the device.
Also, you won't find the Captivate supported outside of the US or Canada, since it is only sold under that name by a few specific carriers (in the US, only AT&T carries it). Outside the US, Samsung mostly pushes other Galaxy S phones. Still the same "family" of phones, but there are differences between them.

Thank you so much. When I first had the problem I figured this was one possibilitie, but the salesguy assured the phone was "factory unlocked", so no one could've laid their hands on the device to screw it up like that. Your info was very valious, I will try to do the restore and let you know.
Hey Guys,
so my HTC One m7 suddenly started rebooting after every one minute or so, i later realized when the phone turns on the phone does not pick any signal or recognise my sim. I showed the phone to my local HTC Shop (Pakistan) who entered some code to check IMEI the phone showed no info on screen. From this the guy said the chip with the IMEI number on it has probably short and the phone no longer can be repaired locally. He said to send the phone to HTC Dubai for repair as only they have the equipment to write the imei back on the chip or something like that.
I would like to know, if there is any way to repair the IMEI, if not then is there any way to keep the phone from rebooting every minute so that i can at least use it as a mini tab.
Also, is there any way to backup my data from the phone on my PC as the phone keeps on restarting and i cant copy data.
I was using HD Revolution Rom with latest CWM. Installed cyanogen mod 11, same issue.
Phone does not restart when in recovery.
Regards
flash Radio

You might want to take a look at @mazen_al_ahmar thread HTC one M7 S-OFF HBOOT 1.57.0000 + Restoring baseband and IMEI. It sounds like he had the same issue as you do. Check out the thread it might help you.
imei
If your s-off. Go into fastboot and use command "fastboot oem writeimei" with your imei. It worked for me
please ignore
please ignore
Well did everything, flashed the latest radio 4A.25.3263.21,
used fastboot write imei command, s-off, s-on, original recovery, tried original RUU which failed.
Installed latest HD Revolution 71 rom, refashed new radio, still IMEI and Baseband missing however i can see IMEI in the barcode in Bootloader.
I am out of ideas. Starting to think this might be a hardware issue after all.
SAD
EDIT: if i use the getvar imei commad in fastboot, it shows the correct imei though
