I have noticed on certain dialog boxes the menu text is so light it's virtually unreadable. Does anyone know a fix fir this?
The next time I get a dialog box like this I will post a screenshot.
Thanks!

I've noticed this as well. I assume that it is because the default Android dialog box background is black, so when apps assume the default black background when they make custom dialogs and don't specifically set a background color, that is a problem. So my guess is it is an issue on a per-app basis.
Hmmm - some of my menu text is too light, but some is missing entirely!
If I click on the check box I get some text below, but there's nothing there until I tap it.

hi folks...
sorry if its been asked and answered elswhere... i didnt see this elsewhere on the forum.
when i upgraded my stock att n1 to 2.2, the trackball began glowing various colors for certain notifications. i know that a rooted phone can have this feature set for specific color for notification, but on stock 2.2, i cant find a guide to what glows what color, or how (if able?) to change the color settings.
sometimes my trackball now glows green, and sometimes white.. no rhyme or reason. anyone here have a link, or info on how to associate the meanings of trackball colors?
thanks
look for blink in the market

This is a feature of FROYO. For applications that support the color notification you can set it in the apps settings. I know on my I have text messages set to one color, gvoice to another and email to yet another.

thanks for this info. looked at each of the programs you mentioned though, and it seems i dont have the same options that you mention above. can you be a bit more specific with how you access the setting?
ive entered the settings area of each program (gmail, voice, talk) and for gmail i have notification bar, ringtone, vibrate, and notify once. for voice, in addition to the gmail options (minus notify once), i have light option (but not color setting... just blink or not blink). for talk, i have notification bar, ringtone, and vibrate... thats it.
i did try the blink application posted above, but i dont use sms or mms (just voice), and i really dont need colors for incoming calls... just wanted distinct colors for voice, talk, and gmail.
thanks.
The key point is this:
"For applications that support the color notification you can set it in the apps settings".
The stock apps don't have settings to change the colour of the notification. Things like Handcent SMS/ChompSMS/SMS Popup provide notifications that have specified colours, which you can use (and disable the stock apps notifications).
In a similar way, GMail notifier can be used instead of the stock gmail app notification to allow you to customise the colour of your gmail notification.
ok. i get the point.
thanks for the responses.
You're not able to change the colour of the incoming call LED, as the colour can only be changed when the screen is off, and when a call comes in, the screen lights up.
Is it a new thing since froyo, that you only get a trackball illumination for notifications other than calls, when the screen is OFF?
I am new to Froyo, like the majority of other Nexus users who do NOT frequent these forums. So I am also new to the coloured trackball and getting my head around it.
I see a few other new froyo newbies reporting their trackball does not illuminate any more since their OTA. But like me, they probably overlooked that apart from phone calls, it seemingly only notifies you when the screen is OFF. Make sense when you think about it, as notification will be in the notification bar with screen on and no need for trackball glow.
Next question.. What is supposed to display if two concurrent notifications occur for different colored events. Just the first color or perhaps a sequence (or even a blend of the two colors - joking)? Seems to me it just displays the most recent item. Is that correct?
A little annoying that the native google apps themselves don't support the colored trackball.
Anyway seems plenty of room for 3rd party apps to improve things. Like occulting different colors at the same time for differing notification sources. Multiple flashes to quantify number of new notifications.
Tried Blink but it did not really fit the bill for me.
So I am currently running with just ChompSMS telling me a unique color for SMS and I am looking for way to improve the rest.
Green is GV. It's controlled by the app.

he means the green color notification is controlled by google voice ... means you have a notification in google voice (GV)
On my other Android devices, when I have multiple new messages in my Gmail inbox, the notification (in the upper left corner) will show the subject lines from all of the new messages. On my GS4 Active, it appears that if there is only one new message, the subject line will show up, but if there is more than one, the notification will just read "2 new messages".
Is this something that is TouchWiz specific (or is the multiple subject line Cyanogenmod specifc)? Can the GS4 active behavior be changed to show all of the subject lines?
Thanks!
Mine is showing multiple subject lines, but it's possible that I've frozen some Samsung specific app that's affecting yours. First though, have you tried two-finger-swiping down from that notification to expand it? Perhaps you've somehow minimized it?
That's just the way it is. TouchWiz determines the amount of space available and adjusts the notifications accordingly. You may have luck using Nottach Xposed (root) to make the notification font smaller and hide the divider lines. This would free up some space, which would (perhaps) allow more notification lines to be shown, but would not solve the actual problem.

The two finger swipe did the trick. It doesn't seem like it persists between opening the notifications, but it gets me most of the way there. Thanks.
good to see this has been fixed
Do you guys have phone/messages and stuff notifications on your lockscreen because I don't and was wondering if it's a bug on my phone or a misconfiguration ?

Depends on what your settings are....I see mine fine but I know that doesn't help unless you're me.
So Here's what I have set:
For the Lock screen, the notifications are set to ON from the lock screen settings. That alone should allow you to see them.
I'm using the stock always on display (NOT the goofy app from the playstore), there's an option for Always on Display Alerts...within that I have set the Reminders ON.
I'm also using the Edge lighting and get notifications from that as well.

That's my bad : I thought notifications to be old style banner with text and not a tiny icon under the clock wich I have to press to be prensented the shadow mode AND the banner displaying "missed call" or whatever.

I mean, you can change it. Just go to settings > lock screen > notifications (not the toggle button, but press the banner itself), then on the view style option, change it to brief (no information shown, but banners shown) or detailed (which was default on non-pie phones).
Hi all,
I bought a Xiaomi 9 SE a while back, coming from iPhone. I was under the impression that everything was tweakable with android, but i can't figure out how to adjust the pop-up notifications from whatsapp in any way. Currently whenever i receive a whatsapp message my screen turns on and shows a huge rectangle in the middle of the screen showing the message with two buttons beneath it reading "reply" and "close". Then i can scroll to the right and left, showing the next message and previous messages in case i received more than one. This sucks for a number of reasons.
The rectangle looks like it was invented in 1999. It is so obnoxious; huge, ugly with no way around it. It stays on your lock screen blocking everything else until you've closed it manually. When i (feel forced to) close the preview screen (because i want to use my phone for another purpose) there is no way of retrieving the previews of the messages, i have to open the app instead.
The time stamps are missing. I have to figure out the chronology of messages myself by looking at the number in the upper right corner (1 of 13, 2 of 13 etc.) but even then i don't know if the message was sent an hour ago or a minute ago (and even then, i don't know if message 13 was the last one or message 1). Besides, this 'scrolling' to the left and right is so time consuming and unclear compared to being able to look at all messages beneath one another with the first one at the top and the last one at the bottom in one quick view (as with my old iphone).
Phone companies are always nagging about protecting privacy and therefor not showing the content of preview messages of whatsapp, i never understood this when i was on iphone and the previewed messages were subtle, vague and small - with the longer messages needing to be expanded by a swipe down with the finger to fully view (in case of texts longer than a couple of words). But now i get it, these android preview messages light up the screen in a way you can not NOT look at it and the content of the messages is right there in the middle to read for everyone. Also with iPhone i remember the screen would only light up with the first message you received from someone and have some sort of cooldown timer on it before the screen turned on again, with my xiaomi every message someone sends makes the screen light up. In case of people who send a lot of messages in a row (instead of making 1 long message) that means the phone screen in turned on for minutes on end, super annoying and distracting.
Am i totally missing something or is this just the way whatsapp preview messages work with android? Is there any option somewhere hidden to change the form of the whatsapp preview messages to something less obnoxious? Or any third party app for that matter, as this is driving me crazy.
I have MIUI 11 since a day or two now, and was hoping this would change things, but so far i haven't figured it out.
Thanks in advance all!
Yes there is. Just disable the so called toast messages. And you can also disable lock screen messages. And of course disable whatsapp message notification at all!
For the first thing. Whatsapp>settings>notifications>use high priority notifications
For the second check your android AND launcher specific lockscreen settings.
For the third option check the App permissions. or just modify the appearance of the message the time it is there. Grab it left or right and then hit the settings gear for notification display permission (I hope it is called like this).

hi, thanks for the answer. I think this does not solve my issue if i understand everything correctly. To be clear: i WANT notifications on my lock screen, just not in the form of the idiotic big rectangle. I want the more subtle, smaller, elongated 'balloons'. Strangly enough when i press "close" on the previewed messages on my Lock screen they disappear and for a second turn into such a small 'balloon', only to disappear straight away then.
The "use high priority notifications" gives a little pop-up at the top of the screen that disappears after like 2 seconds. This is no problem for me.
Under "ambient display and lock screen" settings you can choose for the screen whether to light up or not when a message is received. Although i'd like there to be some sort of cooldown to prevent my phone from lighting up for longer periods on end or all the time, this is not the biggest issue either. (Apparently this overruled by something else as setting it to "do nothing - when notifications come and the screen is off" does not work, it still lit up when receiving a whatsapp message)
Under "notifications" settings you can select "lock screen notifications", "floating notifications" and "notifications badges" - so i go to 'lock screen notifications' where i can select 'format' (sounds promising!), but this only gives me the options to:
- show notification content
- show notifications but hide content
- don't show lock screen notifications
No option to change the style of the Lock screen notifications frustratingly.
EDIT: i may have just found the answer myself ... turn off "pop-up notifications" in the whatsapp settings. This way you still get notifications, but no longer the horrible big ones in the middle of the screen

i dont know where you do this.......
i am running xiaomi.eu 9.11.22 but when i try to disbale pop-up notifications... but i get the message, not possible in your android version anymore
So this is weird. I am not using dark mode. I removed Vivo.pem. I followed (I think) all the instructions to activate notifications. At the begginning my notifications come perfectly everywhere(I have it to light the screen when notification comes).
However, after a while or a few minutes the meesages still come but the screen does not light up nor does anything show on lockscreen. They do show on the dropdown screen and they do show on the app icon as well.
I use Nova usually, I tried with and without Nova to no avail. However when I reboot the messages show (sometimes) on lockscreen..afterwhich they stop. its like something blocks all notification to lockscreen after a while.
Did I miss someting in the instructions?

Set your lockscreen notifications this way . Than individually allow apps you want to show notifications on lockscreen . And you're good to go .
I do(I think).
It's not about the lighting of the screen per say,it's about the messages not showing(or screen lighting) after a while on the lockscreen. It becomes a clean lockscreen ..but when I go to drop down menu or check the badges on the apps they are all there.
Again it works sometimes at the beginning then stops populating the lockscreen
I don't know if it works for you or not but try these for the apps you wanna get the notifications.
1. Disable Allow smart notification control.
2. Enable the settings from 2nd screenshot.
ah..ok I see...will give it a shot

Mine doesn't have that option.
"Allow Smart notification control"
Mine doesn't either ..but I think that there is a general setting that says enable and disable which makes it not show on a per app level.
On another note..the messages all of a sudden started to show. And I did NOTHING DIFFERENT. I had the exact settings as in attachments.I had previously rebooted the phone like many times to no avail.
I know we're beating a deadhorse with vivo notifications, but man how can someone mess up something so simple ....and it's so hard to figure it out when you can't really replicate it .
I have this thought: If the notifications are still coming but just not showing on the lock screen, on Samsung phones (S21, S22....) also, it just notifies the app icon. notifications come in without lighting up the screen and showing a summary of what is being notified normally like other phones. I fixed it with a Glimpse Notifications software available on the Play Store. All incoming notifications will light up the lock screen and show a summary of the content like other phones
