{REQ} Droid x ROM onto the nexus one - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im just wondering if any of you guys can port the Droid X ROM onto the nexus one because to me i think it will be really cool and the Motorola widgets seems way better then the regular android widgets and the ROM itself i think is better if its possible thanks for trying.

Why not get one of those lame Motorola Droid phones? Not meant to be rude, but Motoblur or ninjablur is not worth it in my opinion.
What makes it so special to you?

[Q] What's the best Droid?

So I know of these Driod phones,
Motorola Droid
Droid Eris
Droid Incredible
Droid 2
Droid x
Is there more? and what ones are the best??
There are a lot more. Here's a wikipedia based list.
And which is best? That depends on what you need. Some people want a big display, others want a small phone. For some good audio is more important, for some the video quality, for some the battery life.
I have an HTC Desire HD and I think for me that's the best phone currently. But I'm sure there are different opinions...
edit: Or did you specifically mean the Motorola Droid phones? My answer is for android in general.
droid incredible. because motorola phones have a locked bootloader and motorola doesn't give you updates. sure, original droid has an unlocked bootloader, but hardware is a little outdated (555 mhz cpu, 256 mb ram,...). also, htc sense is better than motoblur.

The droids have been updated pretty well. The X got the Froyo a couple of months after release. And the droid 2 and X have both been rooted and have custom roms no problem. You can "safely" overclock to 1ghz, and use app2sd But Motoblur is crap. Agreed. The Droid is still faster than some budget Android phones out there.
The Droid and Droid 2 I think have terrible keyboards. I hate them. The Incredible has better dev support, such as Cyanogen mod support. But the X has that screen that I love so much.
None, because the Droid next to those names sound like an insult
The best Droid is a dead Droid. lmao
No, but I like the Incredible.

well yea, motorola phones got some custom roms, but they are somehow limited. unlocked bootloader allows more freedom.
about the keyboard - droid 2 actually has a quite good keyboard. i think you are talking about original droid and milestone.
I was thinking about getting the Driod X or Incredible, not sure which one.
That's it. Why do you want a "Droid" branded phone so much anyways? I'd suggest the Samsung Fascinate as the best Android phone on Verizon right now. But it's not a Droid (I don't know how Verizon decides which phones to bless with the Star Wars trademarks and which don't but I'm sure they have some formula). If you really want a Droid, get the Droid 2 Global
I like my modded xperia x10 thus far. Much improved by the good folks here at xda, though I recognize it probably isn't the best phone out there.

How about an iphone instead?
forget the driod, get an iphone
intresting, two people made the same typo...... btw get the thunderbolt
HTC android power!!!!!

Should I Get a Droid?

Hi guys(and girls), in 2011, should I get an original Droid? If I bought one it would be my first android phone, i've flashed a custom rom on a windows phone before but i don't know how to root yet, but would it be good for me to get a Droid now? With the newer phones that are out?
Honestly just get a newer and better phone for free. There are many free phones out there that are better hardware and software wise like the inspire 4g(which I have)
I'll pass on a contract.

Thanks for the replies, I might wait to get something more advanced. Good things come to those who wait.

If I was buying my first Android right now (I bought the Milestone in September of '10) I might look at the Nexus one. I think Amazon has it for around $280, new. The screen size is the same but I think it's a little faster and is obviously better supported.
Consider buying a device with more RAM than droid.
Also you should answer a question, whether you are confortable with touchscreen virtual keyboard or not - I'm not, so I took Milestone
I would consider a keyboardless device ie EVO/HD2/Thunderbolt(big screens), my sister had a Cliq XT at one time and i tried texting on that, my thumbs were kind of big for the buttons?
Well guys, I got a Droid X today.
I've had my Droid for 2 years now and it's been a great device. The development community has been great and there are still a lot of good ROM a currently being developed and supported for it.
While it might not have the most memory, most apps can be pushed to SD. The processor overclocks to 1g (and usually even higher), so it can still match the quadrant scores of many newer phones.
If the price is right, and you want to experiment with rooting and flashing ROMs, not many other phones have as much community support and it's next to impossible to brick a Droid.
I have my Droid (Milestone, actually) for more than a year now and can't say anything bad about the device itself. When it comes down to Motorola, we're talking about a different sport
Motorola's update policy had me waiting for FroYo for months and when it came out, it was a beta-versions, months old that gave a lot of people WLAN-problems. Also the use of the bootloader is a real pain.
If you're willing to install a custom ROM, you're fine, there are good ones out there (I'm using FroyoMOD), but due to the company's update (and bootloader) policy, my next device won't be a Motorola.

Flashing a Blur ROM? (From Droid Turbo, Moto Maxx or Moto X 2014)

Would it be doable to flash a stock Motorola ROM ("blur") from a Droid Turbo or Moto Maxx, given that the hardware is pretty much the same?
Maybe it's easier than it looks, or it sounds really easier than it really is. But has anyone tried it, and is there a risk of bricking the device?
Don't get me wrong, I love stock Lollipop, but am missing Moto Display a lot, and Moto Voice to a lesser extent...
no.
if you do try it, most likely youll make your n6 as useful as a doorstop from that point on.
I understand that... My wording was inaccurate I guess.
I meant I was wondering if it would be possible to port a Motorola ROM to the shamu, I guess that's more accurate.

you can try, it wont be easy. if kitkat, then orobably not. where would you get n6 drivers for kitkat support?
There are lollipop roms for the Moto X, Droid Turbo shouldn't be too far behind.
Motorola blur is closed source, so no it wouldn't be feasible to do with the amount of resources put into it because to be honest there isn't much of a interest and it's difficult to reverse engineer closed source software especially when Motorola can just set out a cease and desist.
Moto rom is already quite close to stock aosp and their apps are propetiary to Motorola mobility. If you want Moto blur (or whatever it's called now) stick to using Moto devices, these Moto blur, touchwiz, HTC sense are what the companies make in order to make people keep buying their phones.
Just like how nexus is pretty much aosp with some Google Apps (dialer, etc). Each phone series has its own unique identity.

ROM Development

Let me start by saying that I am new to Motorola phones and think that the X 2014 is a smooth performing phone. I am enjoying it very much.
With that said since I'm not all together familiar with the development of Motorola phones and was wondering if the lack of Roms was typical to Motorola phones or just this one in particular?
I am by no means criticizing the Dev's and have high respect for all of them but, compared to other brands HTC, Samsung, One Plus One it just seams that development has kind of started off slowly compared to other brands.
Would like some opinions as to the development especially for a phone with a unlocked boot loader.

For example, Moto G has a lot of Roms and developers working on it. The Moto X is difficult because of the sensors and Motorola not releasing the codes for them. I used to have one (moto g) and I am not regret of my Moto X now, because the options like Moto Voice or Moto Screen are really awesome and flashing a custom ROM make the useless, besides, the stock Roms like the new 5.0.2 is incredible smooth and super fast. Just my opinion.

I appreciate your opinion, thanks.
In my opinion there are three main, practical reasons why people develop or install custom ROMs (aside from the obvious "Because it's cool and I want to" tinker factor)
1) To upgrade a phone to a newer version of Android early or after the manufacturer has abandoned support for the phone
2) To remove bloatware or restore stock features that were replaced by bloatware
3) To access fancy new features that are not included in stock Android.
Now apply these to our phone: Reason 1 is moot because Motorola has (so far) been pretty good at rolling out updates. Not as fast as a Nexus device, of course, but pretty good compared to many other manufacturers. 2 is not really a concern on our phones because the Moto X has pretty much NO bloatware... The few things that it does have are either nice feature enhancements or very small/unobtrusive. Finally, number 3 is now easily taken care of by rooting and installing the Xposed framework. I really think xposed has changed the game with regard to custom roms. You used to HAVE to go custom to get any significant feature enhancements to the OS itself... Now things that once were only found in CM or other popular roms can be added to any rooted phone. Kinda removes some of the motivation for creating a whole new ROM.
So, with all of that considered... you're really only left with the tinkerer/because I want to motivation which may not be as compelling to all developers.
Just my $0.02 though...
-Matt
Now that we have xposed I am at peace with not having so many roms.

Moto X Pure ROM port to Nexus 6

Has anyone seen a Moto X pure ROM port for Nexus 6? I've looked everywhere, nothing shows up.
A port of a rom from a device that nobody even has yet? That would be impressive.

Its completely different hardware. People could not even port the Moto X Pro to the Nexus 6 and those are the same device.
This is not ever going to happen.

Don't have Mui yet and have no clue what Flyme even is. So have a long wait coming unless you got a dev in your pocket.
There was a thread a while back where a few users were trying to port the OS from the Moto X Pro, but there didn't seem to be much interest in it so it died.
Since the Moto X Pure is running proprietary closed source software, on completely different hardware, I bet that there won't be a ROM port. Some apps maybe, but definitely not a full ROM. Very rarely do full closed sourced ROMs get ported between devices. And even when they do, there often are issues (performance or things just not working).

Jeez, dude. The X Pure hasn't even been RELEASED yet. Patience.
I heard the ROM for Moto X Pure is pretty awesome. In the past, ROMs have leaked from devices when the device isn't even out. I don't know why there is a surprise I asked this? I just thought someone had more info then others. We will wait and see if anyone does decided to do something with it.
