[Q] Sense ROM without partitioned SD? - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
The main reason i rooted my old g1 is because i thought it would be nice if i could have the any working sense ROM flashed on it.
Upon research I discovered that i needed to partition my sd card to successfully flash a sense rom, which was a problem for me, because whenever i tried moving ext2 to ext3 or ext3 to ext4 it would say "error- run fs ext3/ext4 via console".
Is this because im using the 128mb sd that came with the phone or is it something else?
If it's something that i dont have the mental capacity to fix myself then I was wondering if was any half decent sense ROM that works without any sd partitions.
Thanks in advance.

Maybe there are some old sense ROMs which doesnt need ext4 , i don't know, but the best fully functioning Sense ROM for the g1 is DroidEris and this ROM need MTD.
128MB is too little
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App

Thanks =) Although i have no idea what MTD is, ill use a 4gb sd and see if i can find a decent sense rom that ill partition my sd with =)

well droideris runs good without swap lol also mtd if you find how to use it not sure but the new base we are on today should be ok with ext2 needs tseting though xD if not find that 4gb sd card ^^

*Solved* JAC's A2SD or JAC's SLOW SD?

I have a rooted G1
& i have jf's 1.5 build with CM's recovery
But the other day out of being scared that i bricked my g1
i flashed to jf but after i thought i "bricked"
i realized that was normal when installing Hero SPL/Radio
So im think of finally flahing to Hero
but theres two options for me
1. flash he spl/radio again then install JAC's Slow SD hero ROm
2. wait till i get paid next week and buy a new 8gb or 16gb
(does the g1 support 16???) then install Jac's Hero Rom but with Apps2SD
oh and if any body out there with JAC's Slow SD rom does it really differ from the A2sd rom(except 4 the obvious)
An does it give you a decent start off of memory like 70mb internal or something
And since i already installed the hero spl/radio do i need to reflash them in order to install the rom
or can i just go ahead and flash the Slow SD rom
And last does Swapper make a difference on the Slow SD Rom
Thanks in advanced
Because i wont beable to read the replies tonight(maybe)

unless you have flashed another spl to your phone you still have the new spl. yes the g1 supports 16gb sdcards. i haven't tried the slow version of hero because i have a class 6 8gb sdcard but you should be able to flash the slow rom just fine. i think it leaves around 30mb of free space but i am not sure and swapper should make it run faster on the slow version set it to 32/30 (swap/swappiness) should give best results. you should invest in a class 6 sdcard though. also if using the swapper app make sure you put the swapfile in /system/sd so it will not corrupt your sdcard when you mount it. if there is anything else i have not covered just ask and i will answer to the best of my ability.
So pretty much since I already flashed the spl/radio from I think it was
Saphire ports or something like I'm able to flash to pretty much any ROM including JAC's Slow SD
With no problems??
And if I flash to JAC's Slow SD ROM today, can I reflash to the A2SD ROM next week when I get a new card
Oh yeah and is there a way to check my spl just to make sure I got the right one?
ohhh and I already know how to check my radio
Go into bootloader (camera+power) SPL:1.33.2005

Well if he goes to JACHero 2.36 he shouldn't use swapper. Just create the linux-swap partition on your sd card and everything is auto from there. You wouldn't want to have the partition and use swapper because that will mess things up. Plus having linux-swap partition compared to swapper makes a huge difference.

Yep as long as you got the spl and radio you good. You really don't have to have the linux-swap partition but if you do it will pick it up automatically. And it shouldn't take a long time to boot up the first time.
Thanks man I really appreaciate the help
And from everyone els to
Oh and one last ?
Since I'm going to flash to the slow sd rom
When I reflash next week to a2sd jac with my new 4 gig or 8 I'm not sure do I have to prep the card
With the recovery img
Fat32
Ext3 and the linix swap
And it would turn on fine??
Oh and is ext3 a replacement for ext2
So that meaning all my apps on ext3
Music photos etc.. on fat32
And linux swap is what??
I think I'm confused here
I just want to make sure that next week I don't muck up my g1

You won't have to do anything with the recovery img because that is already on your phone. The ext3 is just like the ext2 but suppose to be safer for the card so yes all your apps will be on there and photos, music, videos and everything else on your fat32. The linux-swap is basically like giving your phone more ram. If you need help formating your card I have a tutorial in my sig on how to set everything up.

Cannot get more than half the ROMs to boot! Plz Help

So I rooted my HTC CDMA Hero and installed custom recovery. I was able to flash a few 1.5 roms. Now I can flash maybe 2 of the 2.1 roms and about the same amount of 1.5 roms. Whenever I flash and they go to boot up the first time they never get past the load screen. They just stay there forever. Some of them reboot and do it over and over again. I have tried wiping everything and even formating the SD card in windows. Am I missing something stupid? Please let me know if anyone else is having these problems.
Make sure you have a properly formatted EXT partition on your sd card. Most of the 2.1 roms have Apps2sd and it needs the ext partition.

And all of them are smart enough to not try to enable a2sd if there's no EXT partition on the sdcard.
EXT Partition
I am trying to flash the PureHero 1.0 (5-7) | Zero Sense - Friendstream - Nexus Launcher - Customized!!!
I formated the card in windows as FAT32 and then in system recovery I wiped everything and partitioned the SD card.
Am I still missing something?
Wow
Thank you so much it works!!!! I can't believe it some that easy. I've been messing around with this for days! Thanks again

[Q]About FroyoMod

I flashed FroyoMod v2.6.3 a couple of months ago and haven't got time to learn how to configure its mods to its full potential. Actually I even didn't know what app2ext really was until today. So the sd-ext folder on my phone is still empty at the moment. Now I want to upgrade FroyoMod to its latest version and utilize all its features.
First, I would like to format my SD card and partition it to utilize app2ext. Another reason is because there are many unused files left by the apps I used before in it. So I want my phone to be like a brand new phone after the upgrading. Can any one give me a howto guide on this?
Except partitioning SD card for app2ext, what else preparation/tweaking do I need to do before/after flashing?
I don't have a sd card reader. Can I do the partitioning with my phone connected to my PC?

Thank you very much!
I did the partitioning after I upgraded to v2.9.3. Do I need to reflash my phone to make app2ext work?
Edit: I recall that Auto Memory Manager (AMM) was recommended to be used with Froyomod at that time to enhance performance. Do I still need it now? And what about the supercharger script?

[Guide]How 2 Create EXT3 for the Salsa only! * Increased Internal Memory*

Ok seems many usrs here have the same problems over and over again. so heres a tut!
This will probably cover many other topics but simplified here as much as i can.
You Must have the following to get this to work:
ROOT
Recovery 5.0.2.6
busybox installed.
if you have non of these...do not attempt any of this thread till you have!
To start with.
Creation of EXT3 Partitions.
you will need Minitool Partition Wizard. Mini Tool Partition Wizard Download
This is a harddrive/diskspace program allowing accurate modification of disk space.
Never create an EXT3 in CWM, as this will create whats known as a swap drive.
this causes the bootloop. Hence the non boot!
EXT3 has to be set as primary drive not logical.
Size allowance recommendations (personal choice, but this is after a few findings and results given by Salsa users)
SD Card Size.................................EXT3 Size
2GB......(Class 2).............................250MB
4GB......(Class 2-4)..........................500MB
8GB......(Class4-6)...........................500MB-1GB
16GB....(Class8-10).........................1.2GB
WARNING, anything over 1.5GB will result in serious problems and SD damage
This also works around class types of SD Card. the higher the class the faster it works, there are various brands offering different class cards, find a fast and big card for best performance. I currently use Class 8 16GB with 1GB Ext3 with little/no lag
Wise idea before this to make an SD backup, if done correctly your data will not be affected...if you screwed up...you'll loose everything...so back it up!
To start with,
Remove Sd Card and use and SD Reader and insert into your computer USB Slot.
Open Minitool Partition Wizard.
Resize your sd card accordingly leaving 1.2-1.5gb of unallocated space. Apply the actions.
Now you have the unallocated space, reformat the space in EXT3 and set as Primary drive. Apply Actions.
Now normally the Application throws your sd out and says bad drive......this is sometimes normal so don't panic.
Reinsert your Sd in Phone and boot into recovery only
Data2sd script
theres 2 scripts available for these roms.
htc-data2sd-ext3 or data2whatever by m1ndh8x4r.
2.1 Roms work well with htc-data2sd-ext3 script with no problems.
data2whatever works really well with 3.5 sense Roms (Bens/M1nds)
*****There is a warning with this data2whatever script....When using this script, you will notice after a short period, that you cannot update or install any more apks. This is due to a Dalvik error within the script on Deodexed roms, currently it cannot be fixed, you have been warned*****
these can be used easily but the following rules must be applied.
You must flash the rom firstly by the 3 wipes...regardless!
flash the rom as normal and reboot full, letting the rom fully build it self and load up... ie input your details/sign in wifi etc.
check it out for a few mins while your waiting...hey even make a backup lol!
OK now reboot in recovery and flash the chosen script....DO NOT WIPE ANYTHING!
once flashed reboot normally.
it will boot, it may take up to 5-10mins but it will boot. if by any chance you a boot loop at the boot animation screen then you have an EXT3 fault and you must redo the EXT3 Partition in Minitool to proceed again.
data2sd scripts are here>
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?duigp9ky9796b65 for htc-data2sd-ext3.zip
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?m7bv6pk024p63ef for d2extv0.43.zip (New/Advanced)
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?qr5rh2fho1hnbnl for data2whatever
This is a proven way and so many have tried and failed other ways.
Please try this guide. If you get stuck please just ask!
Please Answer my poll at the top and Thank this post...Ty!
If you Answer NO to this guide, please post below and tell me why so i may help further
Heyy it worked thanks man

Trying to do this with fdisk on linux
It works but runs slowly for some reason
I have a 2GB cards, first partition is about 1.4 for normal /sdcard the remaining .4GB for /data
Both partitions are start aligned on 2048 sectors
Issue - applications get corrupted after restart
I am facing strange issue. I did everything described above and have /data on sd. But everytime I reboot something happens to most apps. They are installed but when I try to launch any of them I got errors and application closes. I need to reinstall EVERY app and they work until next reboot. Any ideas about the cause or what to check ? At this point I am trying not to discharge or reboot my phone by it;s impossible to keep it that way.

no dont lol...ok sounds a bit stupid but have u got root? because what your describing is and apps2sd thing...which u cant get on stock rom....but if u dont have full root....then this sort of thing does happen....or...you got a faulty ext3 partition...
questions next...
which guide did u make ext3?
size and did u make swap?
root?
Need file name of the data2sd script u used and how u used it...(this is important)
so i need full break down....assuming u have root that is....this almost sounds like a silly problem, but then most of us don't use stock roms anymore....so we dont have this problem lol

Of course I have a root - it works perfectly. I created the partition according to above instructions (I mean this thread). My ext3 partition is about 800 MB and 3200 MB is for FAT32. I did not create swap - just fat32 and ext3 with Partition Wizard. I used htc-data2sd-ext3.zip in I think normal way - phone reset, installing busybox, reboot, installing script with recovery - done. Everything is perfect until next reboot.

Funny thing
I used my previous card (smaller - just 2 GB) and there's no such behaviour as with my 4GB. Smaller one is Sandisk, bigger one is Kingstone - both known for good products. So switching ROM is rather not an option. There's something about SD but I can not figure out what...

how did you make the partitions? and are they set as primary?
what class sd card is it? you need a class 8 or 10 on that size.
I used mini tool for partition. I set fat32 as logical and ext3 as primary. I have 8gb class 10 SD.
Sent from my HTC Salsa C510e using XDA
Shrink the ext3 to 750mb and set all partitions as primary.

Yep now I can see my data in SD card. Another problem I triple wiped and flash arc rom again, and given detail/sign in. When trying to flash script in recovery mode, it asks for busybox in some sys folder. I don't have busybox and also script installed, but ext3 memory not reflects in as main memory. Am I used different script or I need to install busybox, if so how to do that.?
I installed busybox @ system/xbin and flashed script, it worked. Finally my internal memory problem solved:thumbup:
I request to add installing busybox step and download link for script in tutorial.

Getting Apps2sd-ext to work on DREAMteam Froyo

Hi,
I installed DREAMteam Froyo v2.0.0 on my G1 recently and pretty much everything is running as it should. I'm just having some doubts over whether Apps2sd-ext is actually working. I have this setting enabled in Froyo Parts, but my internal phone storage is filling up with every app that I install and nothing seems to happen to my SD storage. I'm thinking that I probably need to *do* something myself first to make this work, maybe I need to to create an ext* partition on the SD card? Can somebody help me out with this?
By the way, I would have posted this in the thread for the ROM itself, but I'm not allowed to .
Thanks!
yup, boot to recovery, partition your sd card there... personally id say 512 to 1gb of ext4 and no swap but do as you please
also save your content first as the partitioning is sure to erase all
