[GUIDE] Skinning Resco Contact Manager - Windows Mobile Themes

Overview
Resco Contact Manager is a paid application incorporating contacts, calls, and text messages into a finger friendly interface. Further information and a trial download are available from the Resco website:
http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/contactmanager/
Resco CM only detects skins packaged in the .rpk format. All credit to Krank_01 of the pdaprime forums for posting the SkinMaker tool that is documented and attached here. You will need a Windows computer to run the tool.
http://forum.pdaprime.ru/index.php?showtopic=47279
This thread is a "guide for dummies" as to how to use the SkinMaker to package and unpackage skin files. I hope it will provide fellow users with alternative skins (GTX anyone?) for a fantastic app.
Obtaining a base theme

Download Resco CM SkinMaker.zip, attached at the bottom of this post (or click here). Unzip the archive and open it. You will find the SkinMaker, which consists of three files. RescoCMSkinMaker.exe is the main executable, which you will not have to independently run. pack.bat and unpack.bat are the tools you will run, which execute a command with the SkinMaker program.
The easiest way to start skinning is to start off with a base theme - and there aren't many available, so I'd recommend to use a default Resco theme. Navigate to the installation directory of Resco CM on your phone and open the skin folder. Here you will find the .rpk file(s). Copy a skin file into the same folder as the SkinMaker, and if necessary rename it to default.rpk.
Run unpack.bat to extract the skin into a skin.conf and a skin folder. I'm not too sure what the function of the .conf file is, though I believe all skinning can be done without touching it.
Skinning
If you open up the skin folder, you will find a collection of .png images and a .skn file. The images are the graphics used in the skin - to keep things simple, replace them as they are named and sized. The .skn file can be opened up with Notepad, and is formatted as HTML code. Here you can manipulate colours, file names, and objects.
Packaging and loading
You will need to package your edited theme to load it in Resco CM. Place both skin folder and skin.conf in the SkinMaker folder, and run pack.bat. This will package your theme into NewSkin.rpk. Navigate to the installation directory of Resco CM on your phone, and drop the file into the skin folder. You should now be able to load your theme under Options (note that 96dpi devices will not detect 192dpi themes and vice versa).

My first attempt
Thanks a lot.
I'm here very happy somebody finally shared this tool
Here is my attempt to change the Resco Contact Manager keyboard.
Look below (file zipped in file "MOJ.VGA.zip" below-below )

New Skin
Just played around with the original Black Skin and removed the mail button.

This is so awesome! You have no idea Also a great tutorial for idiots like me
Do you happen to know if there is something like this available for Resco Explorer, Keyboard Pro, and Photo Manager?
Thanks a lot.

I believe there is skinning for Resco Explorer and Keyboard Pro, not sure if a simple guide is written up though. Uncertain about Photo Manager, though that's a good point - it's a fantastic piece of software.
Sorry that I haven't contributed to the skinning, been busy. Hope to get at least something out soon. We should rally some troops to skin this program, IMO it keeps the older WMs alive!

It's from the HTC Home Diamond of lpaso mixed with the default WM6.1 HTC Home, a .tsk file from someone I can't remember and a wallpaper I made that would have an Opera look. Only the numbers of the HTC Home was replaced, I kind of like it better.
Instructions :
Extract the contents of the zip file.
Put the files from the HTC Home Diamond files folder on your \windows folder (Use Total Commander or Resco Explorer).
Put WM 6.1 Red.tsk on your \windows folder and use it as your today theme.
Set DaVince Opera Wallpaper.png as your Today Background.
Enjoy
No real hard work was put into this theme, thought of just sharing to go along with the new Opera Browser hype. I don't have the tools to make this into a cab, sorry.

[WM6.5] More Icons for Titanium Weather found here

All credit for titanium weather goes to showaco. Original post found HERE . All I did was modified the .cab file.
Hello,
I use titanium all the time. I love to customize titanium weather and so I started to make more icons for it. My aim was to make the files as light weight as possible without compromising quality. I didn't make them into a cab since in some ROMs the folders are not present.
Install
1. If you don't have Titanium Weather installed, download one of these: Showaco's TitaniumWeather .cab modified by me. There are 2 cab files to choose from and both come with icons pre-installed on them. First one has Samurize and WireArt icons, second one has Simple and AccuWeather icons. Hit the image to download and install to device memory.
Samurize and WireArt<----------------------------->Accuweather and Simple
<--->
2. Once Titanium weather is installed, it is possible to change the weather icons.
Installation Instructions:
A) Extract file. There are 2 folders in each, one is the .plg file and one has the icons.
B) All .plg Files go to /Program Files/TitaniumWeather/plgFiles
C) All Icon Folders go to Program Files/TitaniumWeather
D) After that, settings in TitaniumWeather Panel menu.
* Beyond,Buff,HTC,Spil and Stardock can be found HERE. They are .cab files, just install to device memory. They are from ~700KB to 1MB in size.
* Info on how to install my icons in CHeroClock- HERE
* I can only post 15 images. For more icons go HERE
lioryte's Weather Icons- Use with Showaco's TitaniumWeather. Mapped to AccuWeather's system.
Click on any image to Download
Credits: I didn't MAKE these, I found them online, re-sized them and re-numbered them according to the weather panel listing (AccuWeather). I also had to modify the .plg file in some cases.
All credit for original images goes to google, Daemonicus73, KorToIk, sevensteps2heaven, DockZone, stabloid, KDE for initial images, Klear icons are GPL, xiao4, LavAna, bob_55, wiz, h0mer, roundbone, Grzanka .
Reserved for future updates
Added another source .cab with Accuweather and simple icons, see post 1 for update

I love your work it looks great. lol, I did a fullscreen weather titanium ROM a while back, but decided to stick with the panel since I get more info out of it... As far as the lockscreen, the only problem I had with it is that it was static/ not updating while in lock. so I ended up ditching it as well Your screen looks phenomenal you should make 'em in all res

Winterface 2.0 is out. My skin Googleface is available for download from VITO's website, along with several other skins. Unfortunately, VITO went with my first version I sent them and ignored the second.
So here it is:

If you like this theme, donate to someone who actually puts effort into doing this stuff.
How?
Hi there - I'd really like to have a go at customising my own Winterface now that I've upgraded to 2.02.
How do you package the files (particularly the icons)? I can't find any information anywhere and VITO seem intent on keeping it a big secret.
Skinning it actually very simple, but good lord, it would be complicated to explain.
Basically, take a bmp like the one in the screenshot. When you save, and this is VITAL, it needs to be saved as 16-bit, R5 G6 B5.
Now, the EASIEST thing to do is to simply replace over a same named file on your phone, i.e., build your icon set on the icons.bmp and replace it with your new set.
If you want it as a separate theme, you're going to need a hex editor to edit the skin file and a cab builder if you wish to share it.
Any other questions, feel free to ask.

Hey Oscar! Can you post that theme (wallpaper background)? Looks nice... I just did a save on the screen image but figured you might have a better resolution image... Or can tell me where you found it at.
Thx!

No. Actually, I just copied the URL link to whoever did the original on DeviantArt. The version on my phone is exactly the version you see here.
Just installed the latest version of Winterface and using the googleface skin
just about to try your heroface skin.
When i add applications they obvoiusly show with their default icon, is it possible to edit the icon and replace with something that matches the skin set?
Can I use the cab files/skins for Winterface 2.0 to install them in Winterface 1.3? I mean, WF 1.3 is able to cope with different skins. Should I somehow extract the files from the cab and then copy to bin? I tried, but even when just renaming the files to e.g. lynx.skin, lynx.bmp and lynx_icons.bmp doesn't work. I know this should be possible somehow, but I don't know much about cab files, etc.
Hi,
it looks beautiful. Thanks.

Pocket Player Skin VGA (FUZE / TOUCH PRO)

I searched for a while but couldn't find many VGA skins for Pocket Player, especially for fat fingers, so I made this one to suit my needs. This is a new skin I'm using mostly for the car. The idea is to maximize screen space with visuals and info, and use the hardware buttons of the FUZE to handle the controls. Just thought I shared...
NOTE:
The skin is named default_vgals.psz so it will overwrite your default installed landscape skin. This way it is automatically selected when tilting the phone. If you don't like that, just change the name ;-).
[EDIT 1/8/11]
1. Added a new version with some tweaks and the MENU BAR at the bottom, which seems more useful than the slider.
2. Also added a small Mortscript that enables selecting between separate PocketPlayer libraries. The idea is to split up large music libraries into different folders and let PP compile individual databases (metadatadb) in each folder. This greatly improves the performance of the application when browsing for music. For example, in my case, PP would struggle with my 3500+ song single library, taking on average 10 - 20 secs between each operation. After dividing the music into 4 separate folders (~1000 songs each), response is almost instant. You need to change the name of the folders in the script to match the actual folders you create, or it won't work. Then make sure you run the library scan on each folder. You get the idea...Try it...but remember to always backup, etc...

This definitely will be great news for VGA users!
Gentle bump because I added / changed some stuff.

So the skin is only for the music program Pocket Player, which uses skins of the format *.psz (just a zip file renamed). The file just need to be copied to the pocket player installation folder, and then selected from the options menu. Also, this particular skin is only for VGA devices (640x480), but I don't know if Pocket Player will try to render it in your device (800x480). That said, let me see if I find some time to make a WVGA version this weekend...no promises...
