Unable to connect (Exchange) - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am having tons of problems getting my tab to connect to my exchange server. The message I get everytime (since yesterday afternoon when I got the tab) is "Unable to connect server."
I have tried everything I can think of and so far nothing has worked, this includes, a bunch of different firmwares from JM6 to JMA and JMC, no change whatsoever. I've tried it on wifi and 3G, no change. I've tried 3 different exchange servers 2010 Sp1, 2010 and 2007 Sp3, no change.
I have a nexus one and milestone sitting right next to the tab and I can connect using the same server / user / password information just fine (they are both on 2.2 varients)
In trying to troubleshoot this I have started to take a look at the traffic from the tab. Everything looks like what you would expect to see, https to the exchange server specified, until the tab goes to contact Samsung (I assume it is to send the license activation / IMEI info for the mail app??) at 195.125.115.160. I looks like it sends something via https but never hears back from them and that's when I get the "Unable to connect server" message.
This is just a supposition on my part, I am not expert in any of this. So anyone have any ideas on how to get around this or what else to look for? Maybe I am missing something else much more basic?
Any way to change something in the OS / app somewhere to make it think it's "licensed" already?
Update
I used ADB and LogCat to find the following information that looks like the problem
E/ExchangeActivation( 3999): getDeviceInfo - Can not get country code!
I/ExchangeActivation( 3999): XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
D/PROXY1 ( 3999): Proxy Host: null
D/PROXY1 ( 3999): Proxy port: 8080
D/NativeCrypto( 3999): Freeing OpenSSL session
I/ExchangeActivation( 3999): HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable
I/ExchangeActivation( 3999): Device activation response: 503
E/ExchangeActivation( 3999): getLicenseKey - http response status 503
W/ExchangeActivation( 3999): Activation failed
V/EmailServiceProxy( 3999): validate returns 1
D/EAS SyncManager( 3999): !!! EAS SyncManager, onDestroy
Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Well, it's working fine this morning. I guess Samsung fixed their server????? Hopefully there is some info here for someone else if they experience the same problem.

It is that you received an email with no subject line. If you receive an email with no subject line it shuts the connection down.

I take it you're using Schap's VoIP software. I had the same problem, but managed to fix it (I'm based in South Africa though). You must get the correct SIP settings from your provider.
My settings is based on Telfree South Africa -
Provider name: Telfree
User Account: Your IP Number (without starting 0) ie. 8775XXXXXX
Password: Password given by provider
Registrar Address: sip99.telfreesa.com
Port: 5060 UDP
Proxy Address: sip99.telfreesa.com (though proxy address is not required...)
Port: 5060 UDP
URI Address: Your IP number @ Provider SIP Address - ie. [email protected]
I noticed that the program automatically put "sip:" in front of the address in URI Address while you enter your account info - ie. "sip:[email protected]". I simply removed the "sip:", leaving just "[email protected]". This solved my problem and hope it will help you too...
yea i tried that it wasnt working though...anyone know any voip provider thats for free calls in us that works on the tilt please?
yea i got voip to work after testing out like crazy thank god now to just work on the internal speaker stuff
VOIP problems
Am also having problems getting the internet calling to work with Dutty's 6.1 ROM. Can anyone else shed any light on anything stupid I've missed?
-Fresh install of Dutty's 6.1 release
-Using Schap's VOIPsetup util config the SIP settings. Am trying to use Draytel but have also tried numerous services. Service details are draytel.org/5060 with no proxy.
-Whether trying to connect via 3G or Wifi, I get a 'Draytel: Searching' and then 'Draytel: No Service'. I can confirm the SIP service is active and can connect with identifical settings via a seperate softphone app so is definitely something config related.
What am I missing? Have search the forum high and low and no-one seems to have addressed this particular problem. All and any help appreciated.
Thanks.
hers what i did...for me voip setup didnt work so i downloaded sip config tool put in everything..i saved it..afterwards i went back into VoipSetup and i removed the "sip:" in the uri area
Unfortunately I've tried that already - didn't work. Any other thoughts?

Hotmail Inbox (port 443/8080/80)

Hi experts!
I need a little help in this one.
I want to access to my hotmail account in my inbox on my HTC.
I can only access to ports 80 443 and 8080
I have already tested httpmail Provider (which need a hotmail Plus subscription and I have only a @hotmail.com mail) ,and it crash with a Logging On and a screen with :'The server returned an invalid response (with a lot of jibberish **** and a (80042003), Error Source:HTTP Status :Logging On
I have already tested pocket hotmail 2.5 (it doesn't work ,it doesn't pass the Logging In and I get a: 'connecting to server failed)
I read some stuff about mail2web(actually good) ,with a not pratical solution ,going through hotmail->izymail ->gmail ->mail2web
but izymail doesn't keep a record of the mail,and most important thing it's not free.
So, what can I do ?
I know there is a HTTP way to get the mail (http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp)
With the Peracount app ,i would like to see if I'm receiving some mail.
Thanks in advance!
up
I velieve I installed windows livw from a cab I found on here. Let me knowi fyou cannot find it. Search for Windows Live 10[1].6.33.0600 (Fixed).zip
Windows Live for Windows Mobile
Microsoft actually makes it easy this time, though this page is not easy to find. Just load Windows Live for Windows Mobile and you are fixed.
Also it allows you to use your hotmail contacts and to save you phone contacts to hotmail
https://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/mobile/wl/download-en-us.mspx
I have tested both solutions:
As I said before ,I can only surf with ports 80 8080 and 443.
With Windows live (the fixed and with the link) I cannot pass the Checking Internet connection (I have one,I was surfing to test it).
I was thinking develop a small app which connects to the HTTP site and try to catch if there are any new mail and put it on the today screen.
But I cannot believe there is no solution for my problem.
Could you give us more details about Windows Live app not connecting. I use that app for my hotmail and it works flawlessly.
Whose your service provider? (IE, T-Mobile, at&t)
I'm on a french provider : SFR .
The problem is that I cannot pass the Checking Internet connectivity.
I think the problem is the port (it must be testing another ports rather than 80 8080 or 443).
I think his internet connection is wap based (via proxy) and that's why he can't pass the internet connection check
Yes ,I think that's the problem.
That's why i was wondering if a small app cannot go to the hotmail site (http) and catch some information
Are your connections settings using a proxy server?
Yes ,it is using a proxy server to connect to Internet ,and then it blocks all ports except 80 8080 and 443
hey, had same exact problem. on tmobile USA's tzones plan it uses a proxy connection so windows live doesnt work. after lots of time, i finally figured out one way that works perfectly. first, you have to upgrade to hotmail plus. you can now set it up like any other pop3 email account. search google for hotmail pop3 to find the settings, otherwise ill post them for you when i get home. this is the ONLY way i ever got it working. good luck
Is there any way you can set up a connection profile without using a proxy server?
With at&t for example, connecting via a proxy is only necessary for accessing the Media Net home web page.
@ omaralt :
Hotmail plus is free ?
@GWelker62
All data must pass via the proxy
no, its $20/year, well worth it for me

Bummer.....
I would suggest spending the pocket change like omaralt suggests, and get hotmail plus.

Diamond 3G Sync error

Hi all,
I'm having an issue when trying to synchronize two diamonds and a cruise (all of them running wm6.1 FRE) with an Exchange Server 2003 SP2. Each time I try to synchronise through GPRS/3G , i'm getting an error (n° 0x80072EE2, wich means server not available).
Below is my initial situation :
Synchronization is ok using USB on all device. ActiveSync 4.5 is configured to use server "mail.mydomain.com", refering to a different IP address depending on whether synchronization is initiated from outside or inside local network. From outside, a redirection from gandi.net transfers mail.mydomain.com to https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/exchange, "xxx.xxx..." being my exchange server's public IP.
After spending days looking for a workaround, here's what I've tried :
- Disabling WM DNS cache (tried with both DnsCacheEnable and DnsCacheEnabled registry entries) and soft reseting the device, as suggested here : http://forum.soft32.com/pda/Wireless-Attempt-results-Error-0x80072EE2-ftopict76576.html ;
- Unchecking the "use proxy" box in my connection's advanced properties ;
- Placing the OWA redirection (https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/exchange) on a new subdomain : webmail.mydomain.com, in order to have mail.mydomain.com pointing the same public IP address inside and outside the network.
Now I have :
mail.mydomain.com --> public_ip
webmail.mydomain.com --> https://public_ip/exchange
So, theorically, putting my public IP address or mail.mydomain.com inside ActiveSync server's configuration should be exactly the same (except for certificates). Here is my problem : When using directly my IP address, I can see the request going through the firewall, to port 443 of my exchange server (but getting a certificate error, since i'm supposed to be connecting using mail.mydomain.com). When using mail.mydomain.com, I still get the 0x80072EE2 error, and nothing goes through my firewall..........
Looks like there is no DNS lookup during wireless synchronization when using a domain name in activesync configuration...
Thanks for reading, any help would be great.

US Version w/AT&T Please Help

Info:
- HTC Diamond US Version 3G/Quadband
- AT&T Sim card w/ active data plan
Problem:
- Cannot connect to internet. Exchange server does not sync.
When I try to go to say google within Opera or IE it does not connect. Opera gives me this red screen saying unable to access network.
I am however able to use the phone and send/receive text messages.
Troubleshooting:
- Called HTC, no help
- Called AT&T, don't support the phone, no help
- Best Buy sells the phone so I went in there, no help.
- Went to an AT&T store, no help
- Search function within this forum didnt reveal anything.
- I did take my SIM and try it in another HTC Diamond and same thing. So I am ruling out the phone being the problem.
Note: this SIM card works like a charm in my Samsung Blackjack2 and my Jailbroken iPhone.
PLEASE somebody help me!!!
I am pretty tech savvy and have been searching the net for 2 days.
If you need more info, please ask. Could be a data connection settings that i need to manual input?
~ Phillip
Help us out. What are your internet settings? Did you run the setup wizard for AT&T?
I inserted the SIM, followed instructions, set it up to autmatically detect AT&T settings.
I sets up the connection as Media Net which i believe is right.
I actually just had my first advance. I was able to get internet by removing the proxy server from the Media Net connection.
So internet is solved. Just trying to figure out how to sync with my exchange. Which i have done with other phone a dozen times with no problems (so i know my user name, pass, domain and stuff are accurate)
What else do you need to know.
Every setting
I read this in another thread:
I tried the connection wizard and couldn't get online. I deleted the connection and manually setup a connection called Cingular GPRS:
Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
wap.cingular
User: [email protected]
PW: CINGULAR1
That's it. No domain or advanced server settings.
that enabled internet for me. not able to sync my exchange server still. small chance it could be something small i am doing wrong.
Where can I locate "edit account setup"???
taken from this -
For e-mail, you have to edit the "Advanced Server Settings" under "Edit Account Setup". There is a drop down box "Network Connection." I believe it defaults to "The Internet" which never works for me. You can either change it to Media Net or a custom connection if you make your own.
YouTube doesn't work with the Media Net connection because of the proxy. You can either disable the proxy in the Media Net connection or create a new connection that has the proxy disabled. I usually do option 2 and create a "No Proxy" connection that is identical to Media Net except no proxy. (I like to leave the Media Net w/Proxy just in case I need to access some AT&T thing.) I then set all apps to use the "No Proxy" connection (mail, MMS, etc)
Problem Solved.
Solution:
Once you insert the SIM and follow the setup. NOTE: the setup provided for Media Net is not correct. Follow my steps in post #5 by deleting the Media net and making your own.
Once this is done, then you will have access to the internet. Then you can setup your email exchange.
If you setup your email exchange first, it will not work. Follow steps in Post #5 then go back and erase your mail account. Start a new account and bingo.
Hope this helps some newbies like me.

[Q] More help with Yahoo mail please?

I am in the UK on vacation, and just tried to check my yahoo mail. It would not connect to the server, so I deleted the account and tried to add it again, using the same set up I had before (I wrote down all the settings). That didn't work, so I went online and looked at other problems posted - and I tried all combinations of settings, from imap.mail.yahoo.com, port 993, ssl, to smtp.mail.yahoo.com, port 465 to 143, to android.imap.mail.yahoo.com to android.smtp.mail.yahoo.com and NOTHING works, all I get is "unable to open connection to the server."
Would this have anything to do with me going overseas to the UK from the US? I wouldn't have thought so, but I cannot figure this out.
I'm using the IMAP option, putting in my [email protected], my password, and all the manual settings (automatic didn't work either) - help someone please? Please note, I am rooted with Gingerbread.
type email address then password > go to manual setup > IMAP
Incoming Server Settings
Username = [email protected]
Pw = xxxx
IMAP server = “imap.mail.yahoo.com”
port = 143
Security type = none
IMAP Path prefix = none/blank
Outgoing Server Settings
SMTP Server = “smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com”
port = 587
security type = none
require sign-in = yes/checked
username = [email protected]
pw = xxxx
After that select w/e options you want for inbox checking frequency, a name for the account, and then the name you want for..something I don't remember. I set it up a minute ago using these settings and it loaded up fine.
If you're having problems, try connecting to wifi and doing this again.
If that doesn't work OP you could always try the official yahoo mail app that's out on the market - (market link)
Edit: I'm running a CM7/Gingerbread equivalent ROM as well
Sent from my Android using Tapatalk
Still doesn't work (yahoo email)
I tried all these settings, but can't get past the incoming server setting - tells me unable to open server connection. I know there's no problem with that, as my gmail emails are coming in just fine - and I don't really want to have the actual yahoo application on my phone, not unless I absolutely have to.
Finally got it to work
After trying everything, in desperation I took out the @yahoo.com and just put the first part of the name in as user name, and then pressed "next" so that it would do it automatically (although I'd tried many times before) and immediately it worked. I checked the settings, and this is now what it has:
INCOMING:
android.imap.mail.yahoo.com
port 993
SSL
OUTGOING
android.smtp.mail.yahoo.com
port 465
ssl
don't know what happened, or why this wouldn't work for over a week, and I've been trying every day. Anyway, it works now, and thank you to everyone who helped!
