I have not received a text for about 3 days. It started when my sister asked why I hadn't responded to hers. I figured it was just a hiccup on the network. I was able to send her a text fine and make and receive calls fine, but no texts come in. I'm running on CM6.1 and hadn't had any problems with it. I tried uninstalling recent applications, and I even did a factory wipe and re-install of my ROM and mods, as well as all of my apps and I'm still not having any luck. I haven't yet called Sprint, as I'm afraid that they won't know anything or will give me grief for using a non-stock software (perhaps they won't even know); or maybe I'll just stop into the store sometime soon.
Anyway, I've read a few things about this, such as people removing apps and it alleviating the problem. I figured it was just a space issue, like once the phone dips under a certain amount of on-board storage it doesn't download them. I had a similar problem where it wouldn't sync e-mails until I got 2.2 firmware and did App2SD. But my storage isn't really low enough for that to make sense. I tried re-installing the radio that I use to no avail... I just really can't figure this out.
If anyone could give me a leg up on this problem, I'd be really grateful.
Thanks,
Mike
What rom are you running? Is your prl up to date? Current is 60674. Nand, flash a Sense rom, send and receive a few texts, update your profile and prl, then nand restore back to your rom. People have had success with that.

I'm running the latest Cyanogenmod that is listed for my phone, which is 6.1.0, released about 2 weeks before I started experiencing the problem. I have the PRL file and have it on my SD card. Is there any way to do this without flashing to a different ROM?
I had the same problem. Downloaded Fresh ROM. Did a nandroid, flashed Fresh, updated prl, opened maps for a good GPS lock for safe measure, then just restored my nandroid of Cyanogen. Worked flawlessly, and took 20 minutes. Definately the best fix, and the nandroid restores everything to to the way it was, so it's no headache at all.
I'm downloading the stock RUU and I have Fresh downloaded. Nandroid keeps getting stuck on data... about to just go for it.
Don't flash the stock RUU or you'll have to re root.
Well that's not too hard. But what sucks is when Fresh Sense keeps crashing... then when you go to restore, you get an MD5 mismatch... Yeah, it won't restore my backup because it didn't complete and got stuck. Looks like I'm wiping and re-flashing CM6.... again.
Well, somehow I had a working backup from yesterday, the 24th, at some point. It won't be exactly where I left it... but it'll be close. Hopefully I got all the updates I needed via Fresh. Fingers crossed.
The way I got it to work was to flash a Sense ROM. As soon as the ROM loaded, all the texts came in. Also while on Sense, update your PRL.

Looked at the sticky, but did not see this issue. It was happening on my cyan builds once I went to donut. I swapped, updated all, wipe, install per instructions, but the prob found me again. This time I am not the official 1.6(DRC83, 2.22.19.26I) Anyone else have this happen to them?
Fixes?
Okay, so the time ranges between 30 seconds and a minute.
From what I am seeing, I may have to revert back to stock settings and give it a go. If that works, then I will attempt to ROOT again.
I only began having this issue after I upgraded to 1.6 via cyanogen.
I swapped ROMs hoping to solve the issue ( thought it may have been b/c of the experimental/beta version)
But after being on this build for one day, I am already experiencing the issue again. I even went as far as repartitioning and wiping before I started so it would be a clean slate.
ljnick19, this is an interesting problem. What call settings are enabled for you when this happens?

I have made zero changes to the standard setup there. All is normal. I have not fully customized since I applied the ROM b/c of time constraints. Just getting basic apps back on from the market.

The HTC recovery may have messed your radio up. Try reflashing the radio.
Thanks for the input! I was worried no would have any ideas. I'll give that a shot. Now when reflashing the radio, do I need to do the whole-radio, spl, rom, wipe thing? Or just radio?
I am also using Ra v1.2.2 recovery, could that be causing issues w/ 1.6, Donut ROMs?
One more issue to add: AdvancedLauncher (processandroid.process.acore) has stopped unexpectedly. FC almost every time i press the home button. Made the mistake of making advanced launcher my default home button action...
For the launcher make sure you have the latest version. Then reinstall or run fix permissions. U only have to flash the radio, and the recovery should only affect flashing the roms
Thanks a mill for the help, I really thought this was going to fall flat. I'll attempt later this afternoon and post results.
For those of you that took a moment to not only read, but to assist, THANK YOU!
Results are:
I went from OTA 1.6 to Cyan 4.1.999
I wiped and repartitioned the sd as well as redoing the radio
So far, I have not experienced any FC's. Unfortunately, I have not made a lot of calls either. Crazy thing was that on the OTA build today, calls seemed to be functioning, but the FC's were excessive.
I also ran fix permissions as well as cleared the dalvik cache.
Again, thanks for the support. I hope to pass it on if I am ever able to help, it is appreciated!

I recently had to get a new Hero due to damage to my original one. After I rooted and did a back-up I installed cm6. After a few days I decided to go back to check for any prl updates since I forgot to check before I flashed. Once my backup was restored I noticed some ... funky-ness ... unlike usual, none of my stuff was in the right place and the Market is missing.
Discounting all this here is my question...I'm still kind of new so excuse me if this sounds really stupid... Would there be any issues in restoring a back-up from my previous hero? I saved them to my computer to keep a back-up of my back-ups.
My wife had a back (nandroid) of Fresh 2.4. When a new PRL came out I read that we can update them from that rom so I flashed back to her nandroid of Fresh and hers updated right away. I decided to take her Fresh nandroid from her sd card and put it on my sd card, it let me flash back to it BUT it would not update PRL. In fact it wouldnt do much of anything! I flashed back to cm6 download Fresh, flashed and updated with no problem. I think something in the build prop or something messes it up when putting it on a diff phone.
I, for some reason, wasn't receiving any text messages. I put stock back on and about 15 or so downloaded shortly after first boot.
What may have prevented sms from being received on the custom roms?
It seems to be an issue for some people as I have experienced it as well.
Froyo Powered HTC Hero
Just wanted to chime in since I was searching google for this issue. I have an evo and I've had this issue as well for the past two days on CM6 and a sense based rom so if you have sprint this may be an issue with them rather than the rom. I have yet to find an answer myself.
I did find the issue and it is a sms/mms database issue and can be resolved by deleting a file (which is immediately recreated and fixed). I found the answer (and regrettably didn't keep the link) in the CM 6.1 discussion thread.
Thanks for the replies.
Can you point me to that thread I'm having the same problem... Not seeing it.
Make sure your prl is current.

Backup your current ROM, wipe everything, and flash a Sense ROM. Reboot and update PRL and Profile. Then wipe everything in recovery and restore your custom ROM.

What is a "prl"? Sorry I am a nuub. I have CM6 flashed to my hero and have had it for around 6 or 7 months but all of the sudden I am not receiving SMS. I had read that if you were getting the "low space" msg that could be a cause but I cleared the space and I am still not receiving them. Any help would be appreciated.

You need to flash back to a sense based rom, then go to something like
settings > about phone > software version > system update
It should be clear from where you are what you are doing at that point, update your profile and prl from there and then go back to cm6.
Where can I get a sense based rom. I don't believe that I kept a copy before.

thanks for the help!
I had the same problem. flashed cm7 from may version and no sms. so i got a sense rom, the the update prl and profile update and wipe and all that other stuff to get back my cm7 rom. sms works now on my hero!
using fitsnugly latest (as of yesterday) and was trying to applying a morph. it froze up in the middle of applying it and i had to pull the battery. since then i have not been able to send or receive text messeges. i don't have a nandroid because i've had too many problems with them and it's just as quick to use tb for backing everything up.
in any case, i've wiped everything possible, tried different recoveries, different roms, gingerbread, froyo, etc....cannot send sms. maybe i'm missing something simple but if someone can offer another way of wiping that might cover something i've missed i would love to hear about it.
Flash the latest rom again n see if it works

thanks, but like i said i've already tried that. i need to wipe something that's not getting wiped in recovery
well after some serious stressing i put in a new sim card that i've had and everything is up and running fine now.
mods, please close this thread
i downloaded and have been running asops 2.2 rom but i just changed my phone number with sprint and I cant figure out how to update the msid. obviously sprint cant help me since im not using stock rom. anyone know where to look or an app i can download, because under settings: about phone: phone status: shows my old phone number, and i cant make calls or send msgs because of it.
they kept giving me ## codes but they wont work it just tries to dial the number.
Sorry woulda responded sooner, been busy. You need to flash a sense rom to use dialer codes our have sprint modify the phone or account info tied to it.
ugh... ok can you recommend a quick and simple rom so i can do that real quick
hate flashing it takes forever without a highspeed usb. anyways, downloading a sense rom now. thanks
arrg! ok i downloaded and flashed over to herocs 2.2 sense rom, tried doing the ## codes and nothing happens.
anyone??? im kinda screwed here.. cant use my phone until i get the prl updated
If all you need to do is update prl, and you have a sense rom flashed, you can do that from phone settings. I believe it is under "about phone".

Just use LiquidSense to update it.
what is liquidsense?
this is the rom i flashed to for temporary purposes
It is a 2.1 Sense ROM that can be found in the Development section.
well i guess no need to worry about this anymore, the charging dock on my phone is now broken or something because nothing will charge my phone.
Try a different battery. Or a different usb cable.
Root/Hack-Mod_Always*
ok i was in panic mode earlier being without my phone and all...
got liquidsense, updated all info. all good there. however when i flashed back to aosp rom its suddenly really glitchy, i cant get passed the "touch the android" set up screen!
attempting to reflash and see if that helps any...
nope....man this is a nightmare. btw gave thanks to everyone who replied in this post.
well... i flashed back to LS and even that one glitches out at the set up menu. so im still nowhere with my phone.
**UPDATE**
i found a backup copy of aosp rom that i originally downloaded in another folder on my sd. everything is working just fine now couldn't have done this without your help (all of you)

Glad you got it up and running.
First Just for your future reference so your not crappin all over yourself.lol (Been there) If you haven't already make a nadroid of the LS Rom or sense Rom that you used.
Second,I believe alot of the people around here that flash between sense and CM and AOSP do a factory rest or wipe from fastboot(look in this guide for instructions on this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063843 by forum memeber il Duce )the reason being is that (from what I've read) is that sense roms leave bits and pieces of files behind that can corrupt a flash,or make you phone wonky after it boots up.
P.S. If you ever have to RUU or unroot when you re-root makea nandroid of that after you root and keep it some where safe so you can go back to it.
Yes, wipe data, cache, and dalvik every time you change roms. Especially between sense and aosp. The only exception us when flashing an update to the rom you're currently running. Even then, it may require a cache and dalvik wipe. Wipes are not necessary when restoring a nand. Also, keeping a sense nand is a good idea, as out makes it quicker when prl updates are needed.
