My trackball is broken (parts on order) and my 2.3 rom is failing miserably. What recovery can I use that I can make selection with power button so I can use my phone again? Thanks!! Was on clockwork, tried Amon 2.0.

Not at all.
I use "reboot manager", once installed you can press and hold the "search" buton and select reboot manager to get reboot options, reboot, recovery, fastboot.

He's not asking how to get to recovery, he needs a way to navigate it. Unfortunately, at this point there are no options for him.

Not directly.
I think you *should* be able to do it using fastboot flash to flash the individual file system images (*.img files, often inside a flashable *.zip), and then adb push to push remaining files to the appropriate directories.
I don't know 100% if this would work, but it might be something to try. Consult adb help and fastboot help for more information on the syntax of those commands.

My nexus one is stuck in a bootloop, the power button is broken and it has a locker bootloader, so i cant flash a update.zip or a custom rom, can't flash or access the amon ra recovery (amon ra was already installed, so i tried to install again and it didnt worked) or even it's original recovery.img.
The only thing i think i can do is to flash a nandroid backup with fastboot, but i don't have one. Can anyone send me one for me to try to fix it?
I dont live in the USA, so there is no way i can send it to HTC to fix it
I think you're a little confused. The reason the recovery didn't flash via fastboot is because your bootloader is locked, it's also the reason why attempting to flash nandroid .img files will also not work. You can either unlock the bootloader or use the PASSIMG method to get into a working system, at which point you can adb reboot recovery to restore your nandroid. There are other ways but I find this to be the quickest and simplest.
Can't do either of those things without a power button.
If you have Amon Ra's recovery installed then you can use ADB to boot into it (adb reboot recovery), or install Quickboot from the Market, and do what you need to.

First thing is to power up your n1 w/o touching the power button.
Here is how:-
The trick is to connect the phone via USB to a power source (a charger or computer) and then to remove and insert the battery successively, after a while (5-10 insertions) the device will get confuse and will start.
Once u power up, proceed to your recovery and do whatever u need to do to recover your bootloop.

Sure, here you go. Once completed you can either pull your battery or fastboot reboot to get into the stock ROM. From there, I'm sure you know what to do

Just one more question, will i need the power button for this PASSIMG method? because mine is broken, that's why i can't unlock my bootloader neither. on the bootloader unlock method it says that i need to press the power button to confirm the procedure.
I think with the PASSIMG method you don't need the power button.

PASSIMG method didn't worked. It says:
Hold down the Volume Down button as you power your phone back on.
A screen should appear showing your phone’s system searching for various files. This will take up to 2 minute
When i power on the phone and press volume down, it just boots at fastboot, nothing else happens =\
Vol- should take you to HBOOT? To get to Fastboot you'd have to hold the trackball.

yeah, u're right
I already tried trackball vol up, vol down, nothing happened
Well that's good then. When you get into HBOOT you should see text flash up on the screen that it's checking for the passimg, then it should as you to use a volume button to say yes/no
If you're getting to hboot and nothing is happening, it's probably an error with your file:
Check the file name.
Check that it isn't a zip within a zip.
Make sure you used a shipped image.
Check the md5.
Try with FRG33, I've used it in the past and its worked fine. Also as danger-rat said, make sure it isn't named PASSIMG.zip.zip as Windows usually hides file extensions.

Well, i tryed using clockwork with a 1024mb EXT, 512mb ad a 5120mb with 32mb of swap. All of them caused the bootloop.
Try no swap.
Also, I would recommend not using CWM 3.x (if u r?)
So my vol. down button has broken on my captivate. In stock recovery it wont allow you to cycle through the menu by hitting volume up(the volume button that works). In order to root typically you have to scroll down one selection and select re-install packages to install SU, but seeing as how my volume down button is broken I cant do that. . . So are there any other ways to get root so I can flash back to cm7? Or even a method of simply replacing stock recovery since CWM recovery allows you to cycle through the menu by hitting volume up? As of now I'm a slave to stock, and it's no fun
I am not 100% sure... But can't you use the adb console and do what you need?

Thank you for confirming this for me. I was away from the computer and haven't had to use ADB in a while.
For anyone who is wondering. I found a way to root without the use of the volume buttons. By using a very convenient application. Here is a link to the site on how to do it.

I have a T-Mobile Dell Streak 7 4G version running stock froyo. I just got it and never rooted it or did any modifications. I was trying to update to HC. I downloaded and renamed the file according to instructions per TheManii in his guide. I then tried to boot into the android system recovery utility by pressing and holding the power button + volume up button. I instantly got stuck on the screen you see below. I don't know how to get out of it and don't know what to do. Any help on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You boot into recovery by pressing the Volume + button and the Power button simultaneously... to get into that fastboot mode you got "stuck" in you had to have pressed the Volume - button with the power button
Once in recovery you select option 2 I believe to update, the Streak will guide you through the rest

This is your problem.
You need to root it. Install Clockwork, reboot into recovery mode, and THEN install the package.

I thought CWM was different than rooting a device...
It is, unless you're installing cwm from rom manager (which i dont believe is recommended) you do not need to root as the normal method of installing cwm here would be via fastboot

OK, so fastboot flashing implies rooting? EDIT: Nevermind, I just digested the meaning of your post...
Download. Gingerbreak here http://db.tt/1fcrIUqS use it to get root then download. Rom manager. From the market and use it to flash clockwork recovery.
Ok, thanks for the help. I am now rooted. I am stuck on trying to update to HC. I followed the instructions per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286295 but when I get to 'Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card' I get stuck (refer to image below). What am I doing wrong? Any help is appreciated as always. Thanks!
It's named incorrectly, either rename it to update.zip or manually navigate to it
I renamed it to update.zip and still doesn't work. I don't know what's goin on lol.. I'm rooted and I have the file ready just sitting there. Someone help me install HC.
Scroll down to where it says choose zip from sd card, and hit power to srlect it. Choose the hc update.zip u wanna flash and voila!
Just a note,by t I know some people where having problems getting into fastboot and recovery. All you have to do is reset with the pinhole reset and everything is fine also if the battery is to low just plug it in to charger or it will just blink the led and not do anything...

I made a very easy procedure following the "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286295"
Recovery.img updated the topic mentioned and then did the update for pkg.
I found this procedure "update recovery.img" on the site streaksmart.com
update recovery.img
Download the Android SDK and extract it on your C: drive. I renamed the folder "Android" for simplicity and moved it to the root of the drive, but you can do whatever you want.
Turn it back on by holding the volume down (-) and the power button at the same time to enter fastboot mode.
Connect the Streak 7 to your computer.
Open a command prompt (in Windows, press Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt) and navigate to your Android SDK/tools folder. For me, it's in C:\Android\tools so I type cd c:\android\tools in the command prompt.
Then type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" and press Enter.
was what I used to update the recovery, after using the upgraded pkg topic mentioned above.
Thanks to everyone who helped. DS7 3.2 ftw!!
Instead of doing the usual VOLDOWN + PWR and then waiting a couple minutes to get into the bootloader and selecting recovery, is there any button combination to boot directly to recovery?
i have AMON-RA 2.2.1 if that makes any difference
Nope.
Couple of min? It's 2 sec to bootloader, and another 10-15 sec to recovery.

pretty much rom manager is the way I do it.. There should be a way to do it like you say op
You could go with a rom manager. I know CWM does it. Also if you don't mind you can use the cable and adb (assuming you have the sdk-tools) from your computer.
PHP:
$>adb reboot recovery
Another newbie here and I've got a unlock bootloader, rooted, AHD. I've downloaded the MythTool and ran the program (which says it was successful) but can't get into cwm recovery at all. when I reboot into recovery mode I get that annoying "warning your boot loader is unlocked" and then it goes to the little android dude laying down with his chest open with a red triangle. And it just stays there for quite awhile then reboot normally.... Help??
I finally got CWM to boot consistently on my Atrix HD, either from rom manager, pressing the vol+ button and booting the phone, and choosing recovery from the boot menu options when holding the vol+ and vol- buttons.
How did I do it? I installed root explorer and changed the /system/etc/install-recovery.sh to install-recovery.sh.bak. I then ran the Myth tool and it's all good now
The top of the recovery screen says "CWM-based Recovery v6.0.2.8".
