Hi, I have been flashed the CM6.1, and just now i tried to use root explorer to install some modded widget by the putting them in system/apps method. But it doesn't work anymore. After i have put the .apk there, i go to the add widget page and i can't found that specific widget. It works perfectly when i am using my stock 2.1 rom. Can anyone give some possible solution? Appreciate it so much !
Do you set the permissions correctly?
Do you restarted the phone after past the apk in system/app?
I guess you have to reboot and then click on the apk through root explorer and select install also before they appear on the menu.

Oh yes. You guys have figured out the problem. I didn't set the permission correctly therefore it doesn't work.
I'm having trouble installing this...I'm using root manager, and placing the apk into the system/apps folder. When I click on it it says installation blocked. And the reason I'm installing, or trying to install nook color tools, is so that I can change keyboards. So I'm stuck in a maddening circle.
Anyone want to show me the light? I don't know why I'm having so many issues...rooting and installing other apks went flawlessly.

Mine is in data/app, not system. Maybe try putting it there....?
Did you try installing it from your SD, without putting it in the internal memory first?
Also, after putting it in data/app or system/app, you could try simply rebooting without installing via Package Installer, and see if it shows up in your app drawer.

That's the thread - should be in the first post.
Yes, it works on 1.0 too.
If you have problems installing other APK's. Find the "Allow Non-Market Apps" Checkbox in NookColor Tools (it's in the app drawer).
Uncheck the box, recheck the box. NC might need a reboot but it worked for me. I tried installing with Astro and Appinstaller and neither would let me until I did this little trick.
I just put the APK's in the Root of the SDcard btw.

- no nook color tools
- dld from link above

Help!
I am in exact same boat as above. I rooted with 1.00 and cannot get nook color tools. I want to unlock permissions and be able to download third party apps. I tried to purchase root manager from market but would not let me purchase. It stated, my cc was invalid.
Any help would be appreciated.
Mike
I was able to purchase root manager and move nook tools to system/apps. when I try to install, it says's "installation of download apk's are not supported " . How can I change permission if it don't let me install nook tools.

Thanks. I was pulling my hair out to try to install non-market apps... Unchecking and checking it again worked.
(When I plug in my nook, I don't see a "system/apps" or "data/apps" folder to put apks.)
That worked.
Thank you so much for all of your help with that. I was so frustrated. Now I just have to get the other issues worked out. Searching the forum for those.
HELP!!! I'm going crazy! I've put the nookcolor tools 0.2apk on my sdcard, then using root explorer am i suppoused to copy, or move the apk from my sdcard to system/apps, or to data/apps? So far i've tried both & nothing, what am i doing wrong? I'm rooted with autonooter & the market works fine, i just need to get nookcolor tools. One more thing, when they say reboot, that means back out of root explorer, & manually hold down the power button, & then turn it back on right? quickboot does not work, so this is all i can think of =' (

copy it to system/apps. Rebooting means hold power button down till a prompt asking if you would like to power down the device comes up. Hit yes. Device is now off. Hold power button again till it starts up. Release power button. It's booting up again....hence the term rebooting.
Skyraider hooked this up for us. No need to change build.prop or do anything besides install it. Using Calkulin's and I needed to push it using adb but it works great.
MOD EDIT: Swype not allowed
Tried and I can't check the box to choose it.

You can either copy and paste the apk into system/app if you have root explorer or
you are going to have to push it to the system/app folder using adb. Not sure how to use adb, use the guide in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827209
Added the apk in system/app and still no go. I see it under the language & keyboard but when I choose it I still see the default keyboard.

I installed it on my Vegan-Tab using the original method (not this method). Worked great, no ADB needed or this prop file you are talking about. I still need to get used to it.
I don't want to get in trouble for posting directly, but if you do a google search it's pretty easy to find.
running TNT 4.2+
did the root explorer method. set the permissions, did the reboot, but now I get force close every time I choose Swype..

Did it through root explorer on caulkin's, shows up but unable to select it.
Prefect. Thank you!!!!
Running vegan tab and just down loaded the .apk. Clicked on the download and installed it from there.
Last night I was messing with trying to install it through the swype beta program. I entered the beta when I picked up my evo last year. The installer put a version on the tab but the actual swype part did not work. Maybe you need to have the swype installer to install this apk directly and work.
Thanks again op. Using it right now to type this.
I've tried installing several keyboards in tnt and I got the same problem with it being able to instal but not being able to select it. I switched my rom to gAdam and now I am able to install swype and other keyboards without issue. It has to be something in tnt that doesn't like other input interfaces to be used. Hope someone can figure out why. I actually like tnt gui.

I think you are right. I have tnt now and swype fc's. I tried Vegan and swype worked just fine, but I couldn't install Gaaps so I went back to tnt.
I used the method in the OP, used Root Explorer to put the .apk into system folder and set permissions, then pressed it to let it install, rebooted (I remember I always have to reboot my nook color to get such things working). I fired up an editor program (Ted), long-pressed the text area to get the "choose input method", selected swype, works great. BTW, I'm running TNT 4.4. No FC's so far.
Awesome!
I'm running VEGAn-Tab (Froyo) and all I did was copy the apk to a folder that I created for programs, browsed to that folder on the G, selected the apk, pushed Install, and working perfect!
Tried it again and it worked with long pressing in a text editor. Thanks.
Worked perfectly. Using it right now!

I downloaded the OP's file, used root explorer to move into /system/app and set permissions to rw-r-r and then installed swype and ted (text editor). Then I rebooted. After reboot, I opened ted and long pressed in TED to choose input method and swype was available. Swype is working 100% with no force closes yet.
glad people are getting it working
I didn't go through everything I did but I figured people could get it working. Thank skyraider

Could you give some details on the permissions needed?
Wooter here, and I am loving this G Tablet! Thanks a lot for getting us Swype, the real easy way.
I'm using VEGAn-TAB 5.1 and it is working flawlessly.
My family laughs at me when I call the G-Tablet my "Droid XL".
Thread closed, as swype is not allowed as a standalone apk, or for a phone/tablet that does not ship with swype. Thank you.
I'm running Phoenix Unleashed on my Captivate and love it, and while the Gingerbread keyboard is fine, I really miss the predictive text and the functionality of the old Samsung keyboard from Froyo.
Does anyone either know the where I can get the app or the .apk so I can pull it from another source?
I discovered that AxT9IME.apk was what I was looking for, so I uploaded it to my phone. However, it won't install. Can anyone think of a reason why the app won't install or how I can install it? (Before you ask, I have selected the option to allow my phone to install unknown apps.)

Keyboards are system apps, you don't install. Put the apk into the /system/app folder using ADB or root explorer. You may or may not have to reboot to get it to show.
Caution swyping! Read at your own risk.

If that doesn't work there might be a lib file in /system/lib for the predictive text dictionary also. All I use is swype and thats how it is with that idk about this one for sure though.
I tried both loading the app and lib files. I tried copying them into the rom file and loading the rom, which failed.
I'm just running a different rom. Life as we know it did not cease.

Is there any way to get this whole using comm rom? I loved the controls in the notification bar
You can push the Samsung TW music apk into system/apps folder with root explorer if you know how to do so. You must remove the existing ASOP music apk out of there first. You may want the copy it to your sdcard for backup first.
Here is the apk http://db.tt/CqMdGtT

ah, yes i believe they are
So just flash the music player Like I would anything else? And I don't need to delete aosp music if I do it this way?
It depends what version of clockwork you have. The amend will not flash through cwr 3. You can try but I dont think it will work. You need and edify tw music zip for 3, or you will have to push it I believe.

I think so. It's just the stock Samsung music apk. I have done it before, I am on EC01. Just make sure you have a backup of the ASOP music apk on your sdcard incase you have to put it back in system/app.
Didn't work... it flagged and installed ok. But when I booted up it was as nothing happened.
Huh idk. It has worked for me before. Did you reboot after you put the apk in system app? Somebody will have to make it a flashable edify patch zip then, I am not sure how to do that.

Ok sorry I'm new to this. When you say " push" to system/ apps. What is that? And is there a special way to delete aosp music?

When I say push, I mean copy and paste apk files into system/app folder on your phone. You need to do this with the root explorer app in r/w (read write) mode. You will see the other music apk in the system/app folder.
In root explorer (make sure it is set as r/w)...
1. copy and paste the tw musicplayer apk into the system/app folder on your phone. Here is the apk file http://db.tt/CqMdGtT
2. copy the music apk (the one we are removing), and paste it to your sdcard somewhere. Now you have a backup of it.
3. Go back into system/app folder and delete music apk. You should now have only one music apk in that folder, the TW music player apk.
4. set root explorer back to r/o (read only)
5. reboot, when it is booted up you should now have music player in your app drawer.
*Warning this only works with certain apks. If you delete certain system files from system/app folder it may screw things up. Always have a backup of your system through clockwork before you push things.

I have done this numerous times with this app & others as well and I had this same result. Copied it into system/app, rebooted, still no stock music app. On previous roms the removal of the aosp music app has not been necessary for me in order to use the stock player. But its not working on comm.rom1.3...

Glad this method does still work. I use AndRootFile as a file manager and it mounts r/w automatically when you select to run it as superuser. Followed the same process that has always worked for me and it does put the apk in system/app, it just never loads an icon in the drawer or opens.
