Editing PNG Files within APK --Help?

Hi guys, I'm trying to edit some .apk files.
I first extract the png file that I want to edit using 7zip.
I open up the file in photoshop, edit it, then save it as a file (interlaced and non interlaced.. i tried both).
I then dump the .png back into the apk.
When I try to install the file back onto my phone, I get "*Apk file* could not be installed on this phone"
Anyone want to help me out?
How do I edit the file without it giving me this error.

Ok based on ur status im assuming ur still new to the concept of apk editing.
Theres 2 types of apks.
1. System apks (/system/app) where once u edit them u dont have to resign them. You just PUSH it back to ur phone.
2. Data apks, (/data/app) where once u edit them u have to resign the apk and install them to ur phone.
If ur on a windows machine, download apk manager from my signature and it'll guide u through the process.

[Q] Tutorial for stock rom

hi there. i am wondering if someone can help me and guide me how to **** mine own rom?
at least how to change something basic in rom...like put other launcher , video player...etc. and all ZIP it than flash it via CWM.
i was searching forum for it but... cant find anything ( maybe i missed it ).
btw... it's for Win 7 64 bit. platform.
any way...sry if i am missed some similar post but... ty for any info.

you can change launcher by using 3rd party apps such as 'home switcher'.

y, know that mate. just need someone to explain me how to make all that what i ask and than make flashable zip file.

download a lauchner like GoLauncher.apk open your Rom.zip,dont extract!! only open it,go to the directory system/app,put the golauncher.apk in and delete the LGLauncher.apk ,you can do the same with camera,videoplayer,sms and somethting.
you must have a replacement for the original,thats all.
for optic,first go copy systemUI.apk and framework-res.apk from the open zip to your PC,then go to the xda kitchen,make your style,open the downloaded zip and copy the backed framwork and system apk to Our rom zip,of corse in the right direction;-) and then you flash your own styled rom

[Q] Changing framework BG ?

Hi, How can I change the default Blue BG Image in stock rom's framework for x8 ? I tried copying the res apk file to pc and extracted it with winrar changed and replaced the image using photoshop then again compressed it using winrar "Normal" compression but renamed the extension to .apk instead of .rar... copied the apk to the phone but I was stuck on the 3 Logo Then I had to use xrecovery to get back..
what am I doing wrong here ? I just want to change the BG Image?

copy framework-res.apk from system/sdcard to pc, now using 7zip or winrar extract framework-res.apk, now u should get a folder with similar name, in that folder go to res/drawable-mdpi, here edit the blue background image, now open the file framework-res.apk with 7zip, inside apk go to res/drawable-mdpi, here drag n drop ur edited image, now push the apk into system/framework.
# always make backup of the file u r messing with.

btw u need to root your device to mod anything, u wont be able to play with /system untill ur device is rooted.. following the rooting guide to root.

as soon as I pushed to .apk to my phone using root explorer my phone shutdown and now stuck any SE Logo, how to recover with the original APK :s

okay I'm going to use xrecovery now, will never try this again.

U didnt fixed the permission.!!
Do u rooted ur device?
If yes then plug in the cable and connect it to pc , turn on the phone, let it stuck. Now use qtadb to push the original apk, reboot n u r done.
Ah! As u said u'll use xrec, means ur device is already rooted just use qtadb to push apk

Yup thanks mate, but I've already used xrecovery to go back to 13 days earlier state, downloading qtadb looks handy, what did I do wrong anyway ? used root explorer directly while in phone?

Sorry my fault perhaps. When u copied the framework, long press on copied file, choose permission make it like:

Yes qtadb is handy instead of using root exp to copy file. u can directly push file from system to phone, through qtadb u, I think dont need to set permissions. I think u should use 7zip.

alright the, but the phone went off as soon as I copied the file, how could I set permissions then ? I will try somedays with this utility, thanks alot

Hmm,, problem seems quit unusual, use 7zip to change edited.png in original apk, n push through qtadb,, may b it'll work, try and then respond, if no success then upload your apk n i"ll do the change...

Ok I like to change 1 icon in the apk and cant get it for some reason
Tried using APK Edit .. APK Manager .. but no luck
I get not implemented or corrupt file (which it isnt still using it)
Can anyone see if they can get this please and if so how to do it in the future so I and other users can see ...

apk is contacts from a rom and i want to change icon in it, so not sure if its signed.
I extracted it and uploaded it here with icon i wish to change if that helps...

It's a bit hard because i made it "the wrong way". Please read the hole post before doin something.
1. Download apkmanager zip
2. Extract to desktop.
3. Remove all the placeapkhereformodding but keep one.
4. Place the apk in the placeapkhere.....
5. Run the script, decompile the apk(option9), compile it (opt.11), it will give you an error. Press enter and it will ask you if it is a system apk or not. Press 1. Then it will ask you something else, press y. After that it will say to you to press enter.DONT DO THAT.
6. Go back to your desktop. You will see a file called keep. In that file edit your apk as you want it to be.
7. Go back to the script and press enter.
8. Sign the apk.
9. Take the apk from the placeapkhere...(signedxxx.apk)
I hope it gives you the compile errror XD.
Edit: if it doesn't give you the error it will still ask if it is a system apk or not. So just press 1 then y

[Q] Can I change the color /theme on just the dialer pad?

Is there a way to change just the contacts and dialer pad to any custome color(love dark blue) on the Eclipse 3 Rom at all?...I have tried ex-dialer but that just adds a dialer.. I want to change to stock dialer..

no problem, copy your blurdialer.apk from system/app/ to your PC
and open this apk (by winrar) and to change backgroud edit file
go to /res/drawable-hdpi/bg_dialer.jpg
if you need to change dialer number backgroud color
go to /res/drawable-port-hdpi/dialer_background.png
dial numbers are in
/res/drawbale-hdpi-finger/ folder
you make easy edit this files overwrite with old one and, and move back blurdialer.apk when you done to /system/app/ in your droid

Thank you soo much!.. I have spent ages trying to do this .. I am a little unclear on some things though... I will put in quotes what I don't quite understand:
1-"open this apk (by winrar)"-- Is that the app winrar?..Like unzip the file then edit the hex numbers? to change the colors?.. I have only done anything remotely closely to that about a year ago..
2-"/bg_dialer.jpg" - what do I edit that with?.. just Notepad? or PaintNet
3-"dialer_background.png"--same question about what do i edit that with and is this just changing hex numbers or actually changing a picture, like changing the colors of pixels? and in that case I guess i need to be very careful to stay in boundaries..like not bleed over a couple pixels?...obviously that would not be a prob if i am just editing hex numbers.. I have never learned code..
4-"you make easy edit this files overwrite with old one and"-- I do not follow this.. I'm sorry...
Thank you again... I don't know why Droid 3 is so difficult to change the contacts list and dialer colors...

ad1. if you have instaled winrar on your PC you make look in all android applications xxxxxxx.apk and pull out and insert files
ad2. you need to edit by some graphic editor (paintbrush is also ok for that )
ad3. as ad2. you make easy change everything on this picture (but do not change a resolution)
ad4. when you done with editing your images open a orginal APK file with WINRAR and copy there a this new edited images (overwrithe the old one)
and pase edited xxxxxx.apk file to your system/app folder in your Droid 3 phone

Well that was interesting...lol... Thank ** for nandroids...I did not know how to transfer files even with MyPhoneExplorer.. Just kept having probs that I did not know how to fix so I guessed and nope.. I took the dialer.apk..swapped files and put it back...not quite that easily though...and then couldnt even open the dialer nor contacts..I did a backup right before I started playing around.. I need to learn from square one how to do the advanced stuff..
Oh well, One of these days I will look back and laugh that I did not know how to do that...:laugh:
Other phones just had apps that would change the theme of the dialer, but not droid 3 at least not with Eclipse 3 that I have found yet. I love the stability of Eclipse though..

I relize that this is the wrong thread for this, however I HAVE LOOKED EVERYWHERE, I have a LG Optimus Zone 2 with the same problem, I don't have the dialers or backgrounds described, I changed all that I could find: LGUSTelephonyProvider in system/app and LGContacts, LGContactsProviders, and LGTeleService in system/priv-app, have tried different dialer apks, and even Holo themer from the x-repository, Can anyone help?
