Heya Folks,
I followed the instructions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...43&postcount=1 and applied them to the services.jar from the latest build of MIUI.
See the attached flashable .zip file. I strongly suggest making a nandroid backup due to this being my first attempt at doing this. It booted just fine on my device.
Let me know if it works!

I think a bit of clarity is needed here. This mod will only stop Verizon from slowing down your data speeds.
It will NOT help you avoid overage charges.
For example let's say you're on a 250mb a month plan. This mod only ensures that you will get 250mb at unrestrcited speeds. Going over 250mb will still result in an overage charge.
Also, the reason people keep referring to 5gb on their "unlimited" plan is because Verizon starts to throttle data speeds after 5gb of data. That doesn't mean you get charged more, Verizon just slows you down. This mod will prevent that, and only that.
I hope that clears things up.

Heya,
Only way to test would be to run a speedtest.net over your 3g connection before and after flashing. My 3G sucks here so I can't really test it. I followed it step by step going off of the instructions however.
Just curious if anyone tested this? I know the zip works just curious if anyone has played around with it. My 3g sucks where I live so I feel it isn't an accurate test here

I don't think you will notice a difference, I thought this mod pretty disabled throttling after you use 5GB of data in a month

Can't speak for the MIUI, but SR 3.5 showed significant improvements.
Guess it doesn't hurt to give it a shot.
So can this be flashed to any rom? I have a droid x and I am using the Liberty rom.
No, it is ROM specific.
I tried this patch on 1.1.7 N1 services.jar and got a FC in settings>system>Mobile Network settings. Does a similar thing happen on 12.24 Dinc?
No, this particular thread only worked for 12.24 for the incredible...

No, because there is no difference and flashing this on any rom does nothing but break your one settings menu as mentioned.
As has been previously stated this feature is not actively used by verizon, if it was used you would see a notification icon in regards to it when it is enabled as that is part of the code.
This feature was built by google as an option for carriers should a large majority of customers use android devices, but the bottom line is if vzw wants to throttle your data they do it at the account/network level. Not on your device. Any improvement people report from making this change is a complete placebo / fluke or just a fluctuation in their signal quality / network congestion at the time.

This topic is for development of the Wifi apk for the vibrant. Please DO NOT discuss what wifi means to you or how excited you are about it. I am posting this in hopes that a developer can make this work.
Only comment here if you can contribute and make this work. (what i have provided is the extent of my knowledge)
The apk installs, loads, but will not connect. It gets stuck on 'enabling' and shreads the battery trying.
Perhaps the servers are just not up yet since this is so new..
UPDATE: According to TMo News, T-mobile has stated that they do not support wifi calling yet... so hopefully this app not working is just a result of no server support yet..

Took a look at it and so far its either missing a VPN module or its pointing at settings that we dont have. Right now its looping trying to connect to localhost.
This does ADB install fine, but it doesnt connect if you disable it and try to re-enable it.
Side effect, it was constantly looping trying to connect the service and wasnt very happy about uninstalling when I tried, wouldnt recommend anyone install it unless they have the settings or an idea where we can grab them from
Soon as I get the OTA ill scour for the settings. Soon as I have any updates to it ill tweet/post
Thanks Viral, scepterr says it needs a kernel module and we need source code for that
Why ADB...just hit install...running it on Froyo, I cant tell if its working or not because Tmobile DID fix my signal at my house LOL

I suggest removing this app in the mean time. Its a CPU hog and 50% of my battery use.

According to TMO News, the wifi calling is not supported yet as stated by T-Mobile.
“Wi-Fi Calling and tethering Wi-Fi sharing are not currently supported on the T-Mobile G2. T-Mobile knows these features are important to consumers and we’re working to deliver them to G2 users in the future. We have nothing further to announce at this time.”

This was one of my theories... that would be an easy and good answer for why it will not connect yet...
Looks like theres no luck on the g2 end either, its still missing some configuration or something.

Something tells me TMo is going to wait, either for the release of the MyTouch HD or they'll release it on a bunch of phones all at once as a way to boost sales before Christmas.
Looks like G2 will have this app soon enough. I can't wait to have it on the vibrant.
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/11/t-mobile-g2-to-get-wi-fi-calling-update-starting-tomorrow/
The reason why this app isn't working is because you need a Wifi calling plan which tmobile is rolling out soon and it requires a data plan of 19.99 or higher which pretty much everyone has because the 200 mb plan has not rolled out yet.
Has anyone gotten the wifi calling G2 OTA update yet? Can you let us know if the wifi calling now works on the G2? Thanks.

Thanks. So it looks like both now the G2 and myTouch 4G are up and running with wifi calling. They both have in common that they are running 2.2. So am I to assume that the apk app on both of them is the same and that it will also run on the Vibrant once it gets the 2.2 update?

I followed the instructions below and built a flashable zip for people running Evervolv v1.0.0a16
A HUGE thanks to BThomas22x for posting the how to. I take no credit for the mod. I just did what he said and posted a specific zip for evervolv since that's the rom I'm running. If you are not running evervolv don't flash this mod!
You can grab my zip HERE
Make sure to nandroid backup FIRST!!! Then flash at your own risk!!!

Ok first things first... I just came to the EVO from the Epic, so I'm gonna join this community now .
..::..Disclaimer..::..
You are voluntarily flashing this at your own risk. I can not be held accountable for anything you choose to do on your own. If you try to blame me, I will laugh at you. ....While pointing.
..::..Data Service Governer Killer..::..
1. What does this do?
This is a modification to the services.jar framework file, that allows you to have an un-throttled internet.
2. Will this make my internet faster?
Yes and No. This will not "Upgrade" your internet. This only takes the trottle off, so you can download, or play games and not have to worry about it hitting a certain peak and lagging from that point on. It doesn't provide you with a new internet, only a warm fuzzy feeling from knowing you don't have to worry about it capping off.
3. If I flash this, will it break my phone?
If it did, yours would be the first case I heard of. I've personally flashed it NUMEROUS times.
4. Will this work on any ROM?
Yes. This is not based off a particular ROM, and can be used with ANY EVO ROM. ALTHOUGH If you're Dev has made changes to the services.jar file, this could wipe those changes out. If you are unsure, send me your services.jar file, and i will look for you. Hopefully, i'll be able to make a download list in a couple days with all the Dev's services.jar files, so you can download that specific one. You can always ask your Dev.
5. Do I have to be rooted?
Yes. In order to be able to flash this, you are going to need to have root with a custom recovery. I.E. Amon_Ra.
..::..Install Instructions..::..
Simply download, and place on the root of your sdcard. Then go into recovery and flash it as you would a ROM. Done.
..::..Download..::..
Data Service Governer Killer
..::ALTERNATIVELY::..
You can follow this method if you're Services.jar framework is already modified, or if you aren't sure.
1. Download these 2 files:
Smali_Baksmali
2. Create 2 folders on your C: Drive labeled "Smali" and "Baksmali". (This is for easy access to the folders when being cd'd)
3. Place the 2 downloaded files in the C: Drive folders accordingly. (I.E. Smali.jar in "Smali" folder, and Baksmali.jar in "Baksmali" folder.)
4. Using 7zip or WinRAR (or any other zip program) open the services.jar file that you pulled from your phone. Copy the "classes.dex" file and paste it into the "Baksmali" folder.
5. Open your command prompt and type the following:
cd C:/Baksmali
java -Xmx512M -jar baksmali.jar -o classes/ classes.dex
6. Open the newly created "classes" folder (its inside your Baksmali folder that you should already be in) and navigate through "/com/android/server/". Scroll down till you see the 6 or 7 "Throttle" files. They will be located between "TelephonyRegistry" and "TVCableObserver$1$1". DELETE ONLY THE "THROTTLE" FILES.
7. Back out of the folders until you are in the "Baksmali" folder again. Now open the "Smali" folder you created earlier. Place the "classes" FOLDER in the "Smali" folder.
8. Return to your command prompt and type this:
cd C:/Smali
java -Xmx512M -jar smali.jar -o classes.dex classes/
9. You should now see a "classes.dex" file in your "Smali" folder. This is the NEW compiled services.jar classes.dex file. Pull up the 7zip or WinRAR file you had open earlier, delete the current classes.dex file from the services.jar, and place the newly compiled one in it's place.
10. Place the services.jar file back into your ROM, and boot up. You are now running Unthrottled.
11. If you do not see the "Throttle" files, don't complain they're not there, your Dev may have already taken them out.

So, does this uncap my data speed (so if I get 2.2 mbps that won't stay put there), or does this mean that I won't have to worry about overage charges/slowdowns at 5 GB (which will be in 200 MB for me)?

Many believe (including myself) that verizon slows down your data speeds if you use a lot of data. This helps the network be stable for everyone but really sucks for those of us that tether.

I would hope they don't slow down anyones speed that has a capped amount to use monthly. Lets say your constantly downloading and its slowing down verizons network (hypothetically) They would rather slow down your speeds and leave more bandwidth available to others.

Where did the 5 gb number come from? I'd swear that mine got slowed down one month after about 2.5 gb and has never been the same.
How much can you use before Verizon catches on? I know there's not an exact figure but anyone average 4-5 a month with no problems?
I say 5 GB because my data speeds were running fine through 4.3 GB. Which was because of something possibly in the GB ROMs. Then I flashed r2's data fix. Then I flashed this just in case. Simple. LOL.

Please keep in mind that the zip in the op is only specific to evervolv a16. If your rom builder makes rom specific changes to the services.jar and you flash this zip you will lose or remove the functionality that was intended by overwriting it.
If you are running a diff rom you need to follow the instructions provided by BThomas22x

Yeah, it should. Tethering is just routing your laptop's internet through your 3G. So an uncapped 3G would show faster tethering as well =]
And I'm not sure where 5gb comes from, but it's commonly accepted, so I used it xD

No, but it looks like Verizon sends a command to the phone to slow itself down.
Haha, you're right though, if I was Verizon, I'd make throttling server-side.

Im not sure how they throttle their 3g, but I have certainly had my air card throttled by them. I have an actual unlimited card (most are really capped at 5gb) but when I go over 5gb two months in a row I have been put in a probationary period and throttled for the entire month following to a speed that is boarderline useless.

Wouldn't server side throttling give them more control but at a higher cost? As far as I know, the only way to slow the way to throttle server side is to buffer packets or to ddrop packets.. which both lead to lots of congestion and connection retries. If you have a way to tell the devices to slow down the rate that they dl and upload.. you can avoid those issues at the cost of letting us use this mod
Just quick question, im currently running Team Phoenix Ultimate, on a Rogers Captivate.
I just recieved a call from Rogers telling me that in the past 3 days, ive used 190mb of data. Meanwhile I haven't used the Browser, or even youtube, I generally never bother anyway, ive never used more than 250mb-300mb.
Is there an app/way to know how much data each individual app is using.
( i have beautiful widgets set to every 3hr update, i have facebook to never update, thats the 2 i can think that may use more otherwise, everything pretty standard.
Any thoughts, thanks guys in advance
190mb sounds about the size of a rom... Didn't happen to download one with data, did you?
No sorry, i just found a thread which said to dial Dial *#*#4636#*#*
i looked at battery usuage then network usage, i found something labelled only as "0" has been using alot, when i clicked on it, i got a force close??
I use a free app called ZDbox. You can get it from the market. You can click under 2g/3g data and under more detail it will break down what has been used by each app you have.
How big is your data plan? I have never been called by rogers and there have been times I've used more data than than. Sometimes near the end of my billing period when I still have a gig left I will download roms or what not to use up my data lol. I'm on a 2gb plan

ill give that a try, thankyou, Im only on a 500mb, but starting the 15th of may, im getting a 6gb plan.
Okay that makes sense if you have a small data plan like that. I guess its a courtesy thing since you used a huge chunk of your plan in only 3 days. So much better than the old rogers. A guy at work used his blackberry to tether 4 years ago and had a 1500 dollar bill. Lol

I believe it's because the ATT baseband version has been optimized to work with the ATT towers.
For sweets and giggles I flashed this on my phone running CM7 Pre Beta 4 on AT&T and I am getting .5mbps faster download and upload all around.
*NOTE*
Seeing as how we all live in different areas of the world everyone's results are going to differ tremendously. What works for me might be sweeter for someone else. So this is just a little word to the wise.
I am NOT telling anyone to flash this on their phone. I am simply saying IF you decide to flash it, you'll most likely get way different results than I did.

and if I didn't want to use it after flashing it how can I undo it?
Thx

The temperature's been fine but I haven't been paying a close eye. If it were anything out of the ordinary I'd pick up on it though.
You can flash a different radio if this isn't working out. N_01.11.30P is fantastic as well, but I think this may edge it out. If I'm not mistaken it sounds like the voice quality of calls have improved by quite a bit.

I just flashed this radio after i posted my question. Reception was never an issue for me anyways, so don't know if it has changed. I played HD game for a bit and same result as others, my phone's temp went up to 40 C in less than 10 minutes. I have not seen any radio which can fix this stupid heating problem. With Stock Froyo, never had to worry about temperature issue at all, ever since I have flashed different ROMS and kernels and radios, I haven't found any which is as good as the stock bell froyo.
Voice quality seems clearer and download speed seems a lil higher though.
I just got off the phone with my wife and this call quality has definite, definitely improved.
I talked to her at work in a relative dead zone and the call was quite clear as well. Thanks for sharing this radio!!
I've looked around and can't find anything. Is it impossible to trick the Bionic that 4G is WiFi?
Curious why?
Probably looking to get around data usage.
I'm interested in this as well. I think it's pretty lame that when I try to upload a video (1080p 1min duration) from my phone to Youtube it tells me I have to be on WiFi. Maybe this is to prevent users from exceeding their allotted data limit...or just cut down on traffic, but I don't like it.
fooling ur 4g for wifi
actually i think ur on to something they may want to control the data usage and the traffic but they still throttle for that purpose they can lie all they want bout vzw not doing that but bs we all know they do! im sure give it time and someone will figure out a way to fool the phone hell y not they come up with everything else! remember droid does!
I, too, wouldn't mind this.
Swyped from my Droid Bionic, unless I was in landscape, in which case I Swiftkeyed the hell out of it.

various reasons. One is so that I won't be restricted when certain apps require wifi (i.e. some Amazon Apps). It's ridiculous to require wifi when Verizon's LTE is so blazing fast.
You guys may want to try what we did on the X2... seems to be working! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265365

DTR mods are nothing more than a placebo. They are based on a gross misunderstanding of how throttling works and are no more effective than wrapping your phone in aluminum foil and slathering it with apple butter.
MMMmmmmmm... apple butter.
Other than that, maybe check out my attempt to get anyone interested in what you are referring to.
