When using the nook app from Barnes and Noble is it possible to lock the orientation to portrait and have the power button be at the top instead of the bottom? I'm guessing no, but thought I'd throw it out there just in case someone knows a trick.
How did you get nook loaded? It doesn't do anything when I click the link.
Thanks
Neudle
I'm running TnT Lite 2.2 and just loaded it from the Market.
Thank you. I realized after I posted that I was being dumb and didn't consider the mods.
I'm still too much of a noob and haven't figured out how to apply the market place, clockwork or alternate ROMs.
I'll get those figured out and try again.
Thanks again,
Neudle

I just auto-nooted a new NC and am very pleased so far.
I also tried NookieFroyo which is encouraging, but too slow for general use presumably due to running of the SD. But while running it, I noticed that the version of SoftKeys it uses allows one to move the buttons around.
Back in auto-nooted version, I went to the market and found a newer version available. When I try to download it, the installation fails saying that there is a problem with the keys.
Has anyone successfully installed the latest Soft Keys on an auto-nooted NC? Care to share?
Thanks,
--Jim--
First off, get Button Savior. It's much better. Secondly, I found out that you can swipe left on the status bar to go back. This eliminates 99% of the problems from no back button.

I had soft keys 3.0 and last night I went to the market and downloaded it from there and everything worked, now I have 3.0.4 installed. You could try to remove the apk from the app directory and then try to install from the market

I disagree. I had Button Savior for a while but it was extremely annoying that no matter where I put it, it would eventually be in the place that I had to click something; whether it be a button in an app, a game, or the keyboard (if I put it somewhere in the lower half of the screen).
The problem is of course, that you can't move the tab without exiting whatever app you're in (and for games, that sometimes means killing your progress).
With SoftKeys, you can move it around whenever you feel like, without having to exit the app you're using. Infinitely better.
Anyway, thanks for the tip about the swiping on the status bar. I did not know that!
Button Savior is annoying, I hate having to tap the little arrow as much as I hated tapping it for Softkeys before I set it up to use the Nook Hardware button; something Button Savior can not do..

As for the OP, just update in the market, works fine.

It doesn't work for me. The download completes, and then after it attempts the installation, I get the error:
Code:
Installation Error
Package file was not signed correctly.
I haven't seen this on any other market installations.
Khaytsus, I notice from your signature that you Auto-nooted from 1.0.1 whereas I Auto-nooted from 1.0. I wonder if that is the difference? I rooted from 1.0 thinking that it might provide more flexibility later -- and I hadn't heard anything about 1.0.1 that indicated I needed to start there.

Sure enough, I re-auto-nooted after upgrading to 1.0.1 and then I could download SoftKeys from the market just fine.
Howdy folks. First time poster here.
I recently bought a Nook Color that was rooted when I bought it. I believe it was with the auto-nooter 2.12.25, but I'm not sure.
Yesterday I just wiped the device, installed the 1.1 update from B&N and ran the auto-nooter 3.0.0. Everything seemed to go flawlessly.
My question is, how do you customize the softkeys? On the previous version it was set up so that a double-click on the home button brought up the softkeys. I loved that. I've tried doing that on the version I have now, but am unable to. I don't get the softkeys when I double tap the home button (and it's configured to do so in the settings.) and I'm stuck with the little grey button that brings up the softkeys, which I don't like. Any ideas? I thought about downloading another version of softkeys from the market but I don't want to cause any conflicts.
Thanks!
***Update.
Okay, after playing around some I realized the grey button I was referring too was the "popper" and that I could set the transparency of said button to 100% and it would disappear. Great, that solves that issue for me. I'm still having a bit of trouble getting the Nook Color the way I had it on the previous root (which was done by the person I bought it from.) It was a combo of softkeys and launcherpro which I thought worked awesomely. Is there an app other than launcherpro that might work better with the Nook Color?
Thanks again!

That answered my question. Thanks!
I recently picked up a nook to be my go to sidekick tablet but haven't decided which rom I should run with.
I like how nooter and honeycomb roms are naturally compatible with the buttons (or lack there of) on the nook. But at this point the honeycomb roms aren't really at a daily use stage for me (nor are they meant to be) and I have yet to actually run a nooter set up just because Iam a noob and Iam being lazy (I know, shame on me)
on the other hand I am comfortable and familiar with froyo from my phone but for that same reason the soft key button mapping is too awkward for me to get used to. If there is a way to fix the soft keys on the screen at all times that would be great. Any suggestions?

Honestly, I just ran into this issue. I tried to put the softkeys into the status bar but I found it too awkward. Have you considered remapping the Volume Buttons?

For me, I used Root Explorer and it was very simply.
I prefer an application called "Button Savior" in the Market over Softkeys. It leaves a tiny tab in the application you are running, you press it, and Back, Menu, Home, and others show up. I actually keep it on stock settings, since it is so easy to use.

I agree, Button Savior > Softkeys.
Yeah, I was actually aware of Button savior and have it on my phone. I definitely prefer it to Softkeys, if nothing else at least for the fact that the button is less intrusive and more aesthetically pleasing.
I am actually just about the install a froyo rom and try B.savior, dont know why i didnt before. I was probably just too overwhelmed with all the different Roms and eager to jump from one to the other.
I would like to try a 2.1 Nooter build but all the instructions and having to register the market by singing in to youtube have me putting it off.
I'm running 3.0, preview 4, and I had a question about the long press. On every video online, the long press on the home screen allows you to go into a screen that has apps on the bottom, and a display of all your home pages on top. In addition, there's a while boarder around each home page (that you can see when you scroll). Not only do I not have the thin white line boarder around the pages, but when I long press, it acts like 2.2 where it gives you a menu for widgets, shortcuts, etc.
What do I need to do to get the long press option everyone else has? Is that launcher pro, or am I just simply overlooking a simple setting?
Thanks everyone.
Nobody knows?
It's a feature of whatever launcher is being used...

Does anyone know the launcher everyone is using then with 3.0 on Nooks? I want to guess it's Launcher Pro Plus, but I don't want to buy it until I know that's what I need.
Thanks for the reply btw.

Sounds like you are describing the stock launcher, which I use. I am not sure if it is different with deeper blues build, if that is what you are running. I am running HC on emmc version 2. I thought the two were basically the same, however.

What's weird is I have the same version as this guy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CEC0fcfbpM
...and yet, I don't have the +apps button on the top right, nor the boxes around each home screen which can be seen when he swipes between them, or the long press widget screen. It almost feels like mine acts more like Froyo with a pretty layer of HC on top. To confirm, mine is Deeper Blue's Preview V04.

Same stock launcher that I have. You may try to reinstall the Rom with a new image.
Do you know good instructions here to download a version of 3.0 that installs internally and that's over clocked but has the launcher shown above? (IE: yours)?
Thanks man.

So, if I read your post correctly, are you saying you now want to go with Honeycomb with an internal build, to the eMMC?
If so, then you need to check out samuelhalff's thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=947071
I have been running that build since it first came out and loving it.
Sam's build will give you the stock launcher you see in the YouTube video you posted earlier. You should have also gotten that with the SD build from deeper-blue, but I have never run that version of HC, so cannot verify with certainty.
If any issues, you can always PM me and I will help you where I can (from a user perspective, not dev).
Good luck!
Quick question. I'm trying to over clock my 3.0 HC system, and in the instructions on Androidtablets.net says I need to find a program called Rom Manager to boot from. Where is this? I can't find it.
EDIT: Ok I'm dumb, it's an app... just trying to get it to install successfully. Thanks for dealing with a noob .
Ok, I'm trying to put clockwork recovery on there (since I didn't understand I needed to do that.. duuuhhrrrrrr). I downloaded the zip file, and put it on my SD card. I booted up Rom Manager, and hit Flash Clockworkmod recover. Then clicked Nook (old). However, it says 'An error occurred when attempting to run privileged commands!'.
Did I miss a step somewhere? Hopefully this is a slightly less embarrassing question . Thanks!
Is anyone aware of a nookhome alternative available for the Nook HD+?
For anyone not familiar, nookhome was a simple little app that would let you return to your original Nook Home screen, say if you had installed another launcher like GO Launcher or ADW or what have you, and set it as the default, this app would let you return to the original home screen and then pressing the home button would take you back to your third-party launcher. It was useful for those rare instances when you might need to return to the original home screen for something and had no easy way to get back to it. I used this app on my Nook Tablet quite a bit but it doesn't work with the HD+.

Yes, use Anycut, and create a shortcut to the activity named 'home'.
Thanks. Now I feel really stupid.
I already had Anycut installed and just hadn't paid attention to their being a Home activity.
I appreciate the help.

No worries, we all have to learn. I found that the B&N store and library were two other shortcuts I wanted.
