Nope. The Hero will never get gingerbread, because the CPU can't decode the data streams needed to fill the GPU cache with RGB pixels to make the output look like what the board expects. I think you should upgrade to an EVO and go ask in their forums. You will have better luck there.
Take it from me, I'm someone who can install Ubuntu.

In due time. Anyone who is going to work on porting it is most likely on it. In the words of the great Tourettes Guy, "don't get a big ****!" Patience is a virtue.
wow eris users are really lucky getting it before we do! i'm surprised their hardware even handles it!

Be patient and you will be rewarded.
Not to be a downer but didn't the Eris dev say that everything is borked minus data and touch screen?

In any case, this thread needs to be closed/moved to general. Until then, posting should cease.
Kaos is one of the best dev's period!! He has been great to the Eris community with his releases. Someone needs to give him a incredible so he can help us out

The couple that I have found are not working. Can anyone suggest a couple themes. I'm lookin for something that makes my phone look really different. HTC hero, thanks.
What rom are you even running
Lol, hmm. Bare with me, I'm kinda new to this. How do I find out. I kinda forgot. =\

I'm sorry if you guys had taken me calling the question stupid, as calling the person stupid. That was far from my intentions. It's just seemed to be a extremelly "Silly" question to ask.
I am using Kfunk's DarkHorse 53 for Froyo. Pretty slick theme =)
why not look at the wiki and try making your own theme to your likings

they have diiferent kernels, so you would need ours. I've never tried it, but I think you need to unpack the rom and put in our kernel and rezip/sign it. There's probably some other fancy stuff you need to do too, good luck.

Well guys I Did Try It... But Sadly After my Expectations were High, It just Stayed on the HTC Boot Screen!
But it Did Say Installed Successfully So I Still Believe its Possible...
I'd Be Willing to Give it Another Shot, But I can Honestly say I've Tried to Unzip/Rezip a Rom in the Past "But from my Phone"
Next I Resigned it with Signapktic, But must of did Something Wrong because I Kept Getting a Bunch of Force Closes!
If Someone Could maybe Take the Time to Explain the Correct Method to Rezip and use the Signapktic App, Like I said... I'd be Completely Willing to Play the Guinea Pig Role Again!
For the Sake Alone of Expanding the Choice of Roms All the Hero User Have, I Feel it Worth it!!

So ive been doing some studying and i hear that if you download a 3rd party mms.apk and delte the stock itll be ok, but then i hear you shouldnt delete it..
so i just wanna hear from you guys by your experience whats true. thanks =]
The only way that Android knows how to handle incoming SMS/MMS messages is to reference the messaging.apk, so, keep it.
yea thats what i heard, then again i heard the opposite.
im mainly thinking just of internal memory space, why have two of the same thing kinda thing
Well, MMS.apk is in /system, so you won't see any freed up space anyway.
Nand and delete it. Once you see that it is needed, restore your nand.

Read this and I don't under stand smali at all.
What's smali?
Never heard of it until I decided to learn to theme due to being bored with reading other advanced coding/scripting books.
Inb4 bierce22 looks at join date and says this is kifno.
Read through the wiki for the smali tools, should help quite a bit if you're familiar with coding
