If you have i9000 or i9000m install hardcore kernel k12h with odin it will bring it back directly to cmw recovery
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App

need to flash a kernel with custom recovery or a modded 3e/replaced 2e recovery.... only way.

its hard job.do not experiment with phone, only experiment when you have knowledge or time..............
if you want 2e recovery then you log on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108 ,and find appropriate version for your existing firmware, and download as pda file with help of ordin, you will get back to 2e recovery. ...........
still you can not flash cooked rom because you need cwm,and that hard job too,log on http://www.multiupload.com/5CUIK88JM0 and download file
-put it on your phone-if you cant conect your phone then go to setting ,wireless and network then usb settings and the click on mass storage ,then your phone copnncet with pc like normal usb,and you are able to store that updatefile
-then swich off your phone then press vol up+power+midel big button
-when you are there presss on update zip
-then your cwm is active
-download rom manager from anroide market and install rom manager
-then one option download rom from sd,,,,,,,,,,,put rom what ever you want on sd and select that rom so here we go you are able to dounload cook rom....................
sorry for my english but if you need further help i am happy to assist you ,just pm me

what exactly do you need help with??
Have you successfully booted into clockwork recovery menu?
These posts ( questions ) go in the question subforum.
Start reading from the very first post in the Froyo it's real post in this subforum, I guarantee it's in that thread ( and not to far from the beginning ) if you read a little extra to find it, so be it, you might actually learn somethin.
I will just list the steps to you.
1. lauch rom manager and click flash clockwork recovery
make sure to choose the Captivate Version
2. Choose boot into recovery menu. It will ask you if you are sure you want to boot. Just click yes/ok
3. You will boot into the stock recovery menu. From there choose reinstall packages.
You should now be in the clockwork recovery menu. (the text is in green)
4. Once in the clockwork recovery menu go to install from zip (something like that) and choose the Cognition 2.2 update.
5. You should be done and ready to boot into cognition 2.2
Good luck and if you have any more questions come back to this thread and I will try to help you out bro.

[Q] downgrade to 2e recovery help.

Hi,
basically, i want to install darky's rom onto my sgs, but one of the pre-requirements is for me to have 2e recovery. i am currently running speedmods k12i kernal and have got 3e recovery (which is the problem).
i have found this guide on darkys site:
How to install Recovery 2e manually?
* Download Recovery 2e files from here - Download
* Open Root explorer or ES File Explorer
* Remount system with -rw
* Copy recovery file to /system/bin (replace if asked)
* Copy xbin folder contents to /system/xbin/ (replace if asked)
* Done, you've Recovery 2e on your device now.
but dont fully understand it, especially the 3rd point.
alsoone more thing, i made a backup by booting into recovery and going to backup/restore and backing up from there, it contained these files,
cache.img
data.img
dbdata.img
efs.img
nandroid.md5
system.img
are these the correct files for the backed up version of my rom? and if it is how do i go about reflashing it all?
thanks
oliver
p.s - i never thought id be this needy for information, there is just soething about it i cant wrap my head around without a little bit of guidance.
thanks again....
if i was you i would leave darkys roms alone and stay with it stock darkys roms are supose to be stable why bring 3 versions out in one day i installed 9.0 from 8.1 and it broke my phone so had to reinstall everything if you cant install Recovery 2e if any thing goes wrong with your phone you will be stuck

Firstly Darkyy's rom IS stable. If you had a problem with it then thats just unlucky. if 10,000 people install the rom and only one ruins there phone i would say thats stable. Even kies can crash peoples phones.
Ok now on to the OP.
I went from stock JPY to Darkyy's rom literally in 10 minutes.
Install a kernel such as speedmod or voodoo 5.2 which is compatible with JPx ( presuming thats what your running ) as these have CWM in the kernel via Odin.
Then just get darkyy's rom and put it on your SD card. Boot into CWM recovery and flash the zip from your SD card.
In root explorer, you have a small button on the upper center of the screen. It says Mount R/W

Or you can just go to www.samfirmware.com and flash any old Eclair rom. That would be safest route in my opinion because it will completely remove any trace of you from the phone - meaning that the phone will be as good as new (at least in terms of software).

cheers for your helps guys, darkys v 9.0.2 is on and running smooth =D
Just for clarification - the 2e recovery is to allow flashing unsigned .zip files.
ClockworkMod will do exactly the same thing, its a more 'full featured' 2e recovery, if you want to call it that.
Eh, im not too fussed now really, it put my mind at rest knowing I had the 2e recovery...

Hi everyone greetings, i plan to install Spike Speedy Edition v2.1 ROM on my phone and it says to "Make sure have the 2e recovery". Can anyone please explain that to a newbie?
Erma, basically it means. You can install unsigned.zips what are you running¿ 2.1 or 2.2?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Running 2.1 i think eclair stock rom... Basically how do i install 2e recovery?
[ROM] Spike Speedy Edition v2.1 site says "Download clockworkmod recovery"
Do i need 2e recovery in this case? Or can i use superoneclick?
well, if you are running eclaie stock, you should already have 2e recovery. are you rooted? if not, do it. i beleive you can with superoneclick (i think) but yeah. just follow the instructions for flashing with that rom and enjoy =]
out of interest how do i downgrade to 2e from 3e on 2.2? im trying to use run voodo lag fix for samsung galaxy s and when I try to run update.zip from (by pressing vol up, home and power) it says "E:Signature verification failed..Installation aborted", which im told is because I have 3e on my Samsung Galaxy S instead of 2e?
Ill link you to a site when im on a pc in like 30mins. It will have a dowload link to the relavant files and a guide. Or you go to darkyrom and look at the guides in one of the sub forums there.

Hey,
I have the some problem.
Can you explain me how can I remove the "failed to verify whole-file signature" error?
I have JW5 and I´ve used the kernel placed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108 .
I don´t know what to do to access the recovery.
Thank you.
That because you're on 3 recovery(samsung's own) u need 2'recovery there 2 ways to get it.
1.flash cf-root kernel with Odin.then your phone is also rooted.
2.root your phone(eg.oneclickroot).when your phone is rooted, download rom manager from market and follow instructions.
Yay.that the right kernel in your link.but u need to flash it from ODIN.

[Q] rogers SGH-I896: Cant get into rom recovery mode for ics update

Im trying to do an ics update on my rogers captivate... I have the files i need to get it done but i just cant get it into the rom recovery mode. I know a little about this stuff but not a whole lot (learning as i go along!). I have Recovery 3e on it right now and by the sounds of it, this is not going to work to get it into rom recovery mode... so i downloaded the rom explorer and got a file that was supposed to replace 3e with 2e or something of that matter so i can get it in the right recovery mode to upload ics onto my phone. I moved the file to system/bin and renamed the old recovery file recovery.bak i than moved the other recovery file to the same place and changed the permissions! i rebooted my phone and still nothing! Any help would be greatly apreciatted... and dumb it down a bit so i can understand!

Simple way: Download the Heimdall one click in my signature. Backup the stuff on your phone. Go into download mode. Run the one-click. Install the drivers that come with it (it will tell you how). Click the big "flash" button. You will have CWM when it's done, and can flash from there.
^Or you could just flash a kernel with CWM build into it.
The ideal platform for flashing an ICS Rom has to be CWM + Root + Stock GB ROM ( kk4 leak ).
If you got some patience, do it in order.
1. Root your phone.
2. Install CWM recovery.
3. Optional :Flash any GB Rom ( Preferably any one of those captivate leaked roms) using CWM.
4. Download ICS ROM (teamhacksung seems to be stable) and Flash TWICE through CWM
Enjoy

rooting your phone is NOT necessary to install CWM.....

Do not post questions in General, use Q&A.

if you flash a rom, root is included. rooting your phone is NOT necessary to flash a rom....you do know what ROOT actually is right?

Yes . Root is technically a Linux kernel super user privilege

so then you know that it doesnt matter if you have root or not when you are in CWM, since you arent in an OS....?
therefore, ROOTING is not necessary to flash a new rom..
I also am on rogers and what I did was to use an heimdall 1-click package that flashed CWM for me then I used CWM to flash an ICS build.

[Experimental] Stock Recovery For Gingerbread 2.3.6

Introduction
Many new users flash Clockwork Mod recovery on thier stock Gingerbread 2.3 roms and then suddenly they realize that they need to root their phone and want to root it. But, when they give it a try they find that they need to have stock recovery to root the device.
And, you shall then need to go through the tedious process of flashing stock firmware just to get back to stock recovery. You will lose all your settings, data, configuration and there are many other drawbacks. But, no more of flashing to stock rom from now on.
With this flashable tar file for stock recovery, you can now be able to revert (or go back) to stock recovery even if you flash CWM recovery with the necessity or going through flashing the whole firmware.
Use it at your own risk!!!
Experimental.... Recommended Testers : Users with stock Gingerbread DDKQ7 firmware

See, next post for instructions on installing or using it.
Instructions on Flashing Stock Recovery!
So, let's begin.
Download Odin Multidownloader v4.38 for GTS5570, Tass_v1.ops and stock GB Recovery if you do not have them already. You can download them from here.
Run Odin Multi downloader v4.38 and select the Tass_v1.ops by clicking OPS button.
Select One Package Option and Click One Package button and select the stock recovery file name (stock-recovery-gt-s5570-yagya.tar.md5) file you downloaded.
Leave other settings to default (i.e. don’t change any other options/settings)
When you are done reboot your phone in download mode (Press Volume Down + Home + Power button to go to download mode)
Connect your phone in download mode to your computer via USB Cable.
When Odin detects your phone (If you see a com port number written in yellow background at the top left, then your phone is detected. View image.), click Start button.
Wait till Odin finishes the job (approx. 3-5 minutes) and when it reports ‘PASS’, you can disconnect your phone.
That's all. You have flashed back to stock recovery without having to flash a whole new firmware on your device.
Now, reboot to recovery mode (press Home + Power button) and see if your recovery changed to stock or not. Don't forget to share the result with us at the post below.

This is only for those who want it so, you can stay back if you don't need it. I want no spam in this thread.
AS you can read here http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2011/12/rooting-samsung-galaxy-pop-with.html those who doesn't want to install custom rom need stock recovery to root their device since the rooting scripts written till now, only work with stock one.
So, those who flashed CWM recovery but now wants to return to stock recovery since they are not going to flash any custom rom will use this to return to stock GB recovery.

Sorry . No offence dude.
I didn't mean to be rude. I was just a little off that time.
I was just saying that there would be very little or negligible percentage of people that would go back to stock recovery.
And also if they have flashed GB they would themselves get stock recovery. And I think no CM or custom rom user would prefer stock recovery.
I guess it would be really very helpful in case if phone has any hardware problem and in warranty, so may be flashing stock recovery and then sending it back would help.
It is helpful.

Well not a problem.
No read carefully what you have written and what I am telling below. Yes, they will get stock recovery after flashing GB. But, the aim/focus here is to get stock recovery with out flashing GB firmware.
If you can get it, then all right. Otherwise, I would suggest us to stop this and leave it here only.
I wanted to share this since I got few request for this, and it's here now and those who want can use and those who doesn't can simply ignore it.
there is a typo in the first post.
I dont understand, if u want to reduce the tediousness then just make a flashable zip of the recovery. Why odin? They are using a custom recovery after all.
Hold it. There a ppl using cwm on stock roms!! What are they using it for without rfs support?

Well, I understand flashing it in CWM is a good idea. So, I will update provide an zip soon.
There's no need to hold it . LOL! New users are not learned like you are, so they flash it. Later they want to revert back but find that they will need to flash whole rom , that will erase all data and apps. But, with this they can only change the recovery to stock.

[Q] How to install CWM manually

Hi all,
I want to install CWM on my rooted SGS however there appears to be on CF Kernel that matches my JVN Kernel so using the CF method is not an option from what I have read.
So I installed ROM Manager and tried to install it that way but I now get signature verification errors when I go into Recovery.
Next I downloaded the recovery image from the CWM website but I cannot seem to find any information on installing it onto a SGS.
If anyone could offer any suggestions it would be appreciated.
TIA
Greg
Edit: Firmware is 2.3.3
Why dont you just flash JVU then Root it
Comes with CWM ....
As I am guessing you want CWM to flash a rom yes?
If so most Roms require ...from my knowledge a clean install of JVU with ODIN before flashing a New Rom

Download this "update.zip". Place it in your SD card. Power off and boot into recovery with the 3 button combination (press power, volume up and home button till you see the boot logo) and select "apply sdcard: update.zip". DO NOT DELETE THIS FROM SD. You should have CWM installed now. Let me know if you have any problem.
You need to root your phone first with update.zip for i9000, download the latest CWM.zip, put it in the storage. Then go to recovery and install the CWM.zip Goodluck flashing!

Can you use any version of JVU? eg: Europe, Asia, Australia. Or, should you only use one for your region, in my case Australia.
I have an Australian verion of JW6 (2.3.6), would that be acceptable?

Thanks for the UPDATE.ZIP, I note it is just a renamed CWM. I did not know you could just rename them and then install them. Thanks.
So, my plan at this stage is to update to 2.3.6 (JW6) and then install CWM via UPDATE.ZIP. Should this work?
TIA
Greg
Yeah you can upgrade first. Flash a firmware or upgrade OTA. You should root your phone first before flashing a custom recovery such as CWM.
