[Q] unlocked, but soft branding - buy or not? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

can I buy a unlocked, but soft branding SGS (branding T-Mobile or Vodafone), if I
want to update to new android versions (without waiting for T-Mobile)
maybe want to root my phone
or should I buy a more expensive, but without any branding phone?
any tip is welcome, Frank

If it's unlocked that means you can use any sim card, no matter what the carrier.
With the branded firmware, all you have to do is flash an unbranded firmware/rom and you're good to go.
You don't need to flash an unbranded firmware/rom to be able to apply a lag fix or root but who likes branding when you can easily flash a non branded firmware/rom?
I would say buy the unlocked but branded phone. It's cheaper and easy to flash.

howto get and do this?
hmm, I am really new with android
sorry for the silly question, but what is the easiest way to get an unbranded firmware/rom and howto easily flash this ?
and how can I backup old branded version, in case of guarantee ? I think a flashed phone will not be supported any more, or?

[Q] Unlock after Firmware upgrade

Do I have to unlock my device everytime I upgrade firmware or change ROM? I am playing around trying to find the ROM I like most. But don't want to Root, and unlock after.
unlike the iPhones, your i9000 will remain unlocked once you've unlocked it. Firmware upgrades are for legit reasons, not just to lock your phone down again.
Rooting is affected by firmware upgrades but is easy to fix.

If I make a nandroid of my current rom (Vodafone Spain stock Rom).. will this "save" the lock/unlock status, or is the status NOT depending on ROM?
I need to know this because of warranty .

[Q] Debrand & unlock vodafone S3 mini

Vodafore are selling the S3 mini much cheaper than other carriers where I live, and so I'm thinking about buying one and unlocking it to my network.
But I've seen on other people's phones that vodaphone puts their logo all over the software ect and their own apps too, is this the case with the
s3 mini too?
So would I need to root, flash an unbranded firmware, or can I just root and use something like GalaxSim Unlock from the google play store?
(I want to keep the phone on original *samsung* firmware at least for a while when I get it, custom roms can be tried later

GalaxSim Unlock doens't work on our phone, at least on the last build. You can buy the code from a website and put it on your phone. I don't know how is the process in fact, but I think it is that way.
Flash CM 11, it's the best right now. Better than stock

What is de-branding (UK)

Hi,
I have noticed after reading a few threads that a lot of people in the UK are mentioning that they are going to de-brand their N4. How & why is this done? Does deleting all of the applications that came on the phone also accomplish this?
Also, will it make the phone any snappier after doing this and does this count as 'rooting'? Apologies for all the 'silly' questions, but I am fairly new to this.
Thanks,
Sam
I think was they are referring to is to root the device and this would allow you to put a stock firmware on and or remove the preinstalled software that can't be removed without rooting first.

You debrand a phone by unlocking it first (o2 sent me unlock code just an hour ago) , then flash stock firmware over the carrier firmware, then perform a factory reset, your phone will be debranded as if you purchased a sim free version, no carrier crap.
You do not need to root to debrand

Is the un-lock needed tho?, can't you just flash the current BTU if you dont need to unlock? Thanks.
I think you could do that yeah, don't think it would cause any issues with your phone functioning, only thing it would mean is your phone isn't completely de-branded as it would still contain your carriers sales code (I could be wrong here) just my take on it from what I've researched in the past

International or T-Mobile ROM on unrooted stock unlocked ATT phone?

Hi. I am new on this forum and don't know much about rooting and the requirements of such high complex stuff. But I have an ATT unlocked phone which I use on t mobile. It's lacks WiFi calling, whxih I want, and the signal is probably 1 bar lower than it should. Not to mention I can't update my software since ATT servers for the update won't communicate with my phone since I'm no longer and ATT customer and they are generally very slow with their updates
Anyway is it possible to put a international ROM, say the new marshmallow ROM, or even a T-Mobile ROM on my phone? How would one do that? I am aware of odin as I use it to update my software from time to time. Do I just get the international or T-Mobile ROM and flash it?
Thanks.
No way , at&t have a locked bootloader, ):
international..any day..dont even think abt it
Been trying to do this forever. Still no luck.
Anyway to unlock the bootloader? Would my best bet to sell the phone and just get the unlocked one?
AT&T no way , yes get the 925f

I need your help

I bought yesterday a at&t branded Note 5(N920A). Since I live in Greece and I don't have an at&t sim, I can't receive ota updates and must flash every new version via Odin. Can I use an unbranded official rom from another model number, and which unbranded rom do you suggest to flash; Thank you very much in advance.
I don't think you can use other official roms, because the AT&T model has a locked bootloader.
Sent from my SM-N920I using Tapatalk
Can I unlock the bootloader; Is it easy to unlock it;
I thought another solution. If I buy from ebay an at&t sim card and put it whenever a software update release for this phone, it will work right;
