Swype -> need some help! - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have Swype version 2.12.54.14467 from JP9 (thanx to knesz )Swype.apk , Swype.odex and libSwypeCore.so!
How to install?
This method is not working :
Copy ->Swype.apk and Swype.odex in /system/app and
libSwypeCore.so in system/lib
Swype is not appearing in input method! And I get "App not installed" if I thy to install this from /system/app!
Know another method or what I need to do to be able to install this!
Thanx!
Swype version 2.12.54.14467 can be downloaded here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10074998&postcount=13

delete the 3 files you mentioned
reboot
install swype like you install any other app

I've tried also in this way and the result is "App not installed"!

do not install from /system/app!
use "adb install ...", if that fails it'll also tell you why

Hi,
My HTC Magic, after installing the Sense UI, ended up with a perfect SPL HBOOT - 1.76.0007 (SAPP10000). It has a PVT 32A. I want to install Barcode Scanner and Bluetooth_File_Transfer applications in my Magic but am unable to access the Android Market. Like you mention, to use Astro File Manager. I have downloaded the Astro File Manager.apk file to my Notebook from Rapidshare. How do I install this file? I am a non-techie.

Hey
get the URL to the rapidshare download, now on your phone go to that address. It should then download the apk. When finished simply tap the file downloaded apk and it will install. Now you have Astro.
Now with all the other APK files, place them on your SD -> Open astro and navigate to the apk's -> click it and it shall install -> Enjoy!

Re: Can't Install Apks
Thx mate.
Will give this a try.
Hey what do you do if the apk file can't install or in my case i installed the gingerbread keyboard on my droid x and it was too small then i tried to reinstall the stock multi touch keyboard using root manager , I went through all the steps i place it on the root of the SD card , copy , paste and permissions but when i exited and went into settings , language and keyboard and selected imput method there's only Swipe and the keyboard i bought - swiftkey the gingerbread keyboard was gone and it did not install the stock key. I then tried to use Astro to install the stock multi touch keyboard , it was installed but as soon as i select multi touch keyboard in settings i start getting a popup saying it closed unexpectedly i had to uninstall it to stop the pop which was coming rapidly . Can anyone tell me what went wrong and does anyone know how to correct this and get the Multi touch keyboard installed ? .

[Q] cant install Swype on Samsung Gal S anymore?

Ok so I uninstalled the swype using titanium backup, then download the newer version from here:
getandroidstuff.com/2010/08/swype-keyboard-in-19-languages-for.html
Then using both the default file manager and astro to install but even after the uninstallation and a reboot and I cant seem to see swype anywhere in the phones installed app list, it still say "Replace application, the app you are installing will replace another app" How can it replace something that isnt there. And after the installation is done, it said "application not installed". There is no swype under my "text and locale" setting either. tried both the HVGA and WVGA version, same thing. Any idea? :/

Swype is a system app, it can't be removed so easily. You have to remove /system/app/Swype.apk, then remove /data/data/com.android.inputmethod.swype (if it's there, maybe titanium removes it) .
Then you copy your downloaded apk to /system/app renamed to Swype.apk and only then try to install it, from the downloaded folder.
ok thanks, I just needed to change the name of the file to simply swype.apk for it to work
we need a better way than FW updates to update Swype and a very manual process, am I missing something?
I followed the instructions given above, tried with both of the swype versions mentioned above and a newer version (Swype_v2_6_47_11856).
The installation goes without any problems, however once I select swype as input method it goes haywire and needs to be force closed every 10 seconds.
I'm using Android 2.2 (Froyo)
Do I need to use a different method to install Swype?
And which version of swype might be best to use?
I wanted to install it because Swype does come with a Russian alphabet version.
titanium backup will let you integrate any new version of Apps that is already installed in ROM back into the ROM
Cool, thanks !!
One snag though, I deleted the old version of swype like explained in the second message.....how can I fix that first?
the newer swype version will make a forced close after boot because u did not cut the libswype.so (or st like that) from your /system/lib/ folder when you removed your stock swype version. I had the same problem before and solved it by just removing that file by cutting and pasting it into another folder for backup.
You have to remove system/lib/libswypecore.so
After that, just push the new swype.apk to /system/app
and then push the new libswypecore.so to /system/lib
Edit: Or flash with CWM ;D
Assistance required please:
I deleted the original Swype and then have downloaded WVGA 2.10.52.13753. I've deleted /system//lib/libswypecore and then run the SWYPE SVGA 2.10.XXXX.apk.
When I then try to use it I get the message "The application Swype (process com.swype.android.input mehod) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
After switching teh phone off and back on, I still get this continuously.
I am running my SGS on 2.2 which is Froyo .XXJPO with root and OCLF. What am I missing?
I also note that niXXoz talks about pusing, what is this? I've tried copy and paste but when I get up to the lib and app level the paste option disappears. Could be completely inconsequential but thought I'd ask.
Really look forward to any help that you can lend.
Thanks

Current spec: Insanity Rom with stock kernel
cant get swype on Insanity rom?
Need you to help you onthis asap please
I need this **** fixed badly, thanks
Did you try using Swype Installer?
Uninstalling swype generally goes this way:
with some explorer able of browsing root:
- dig into system/app and delete swype.apk
- dig into system/lib and delete libswype (and anything with swype in the name)
Go to http://beta.swype.com/ and register or login. Follow the instructions, it will envolve opening a link in your phone, downloading swype installer, picking the correct version of swype for you and let it work it's magic. You'll have swype installed by the end of it. Some kind of fast wireless access on your phone is very recomended.
Whenever i had swype installing problems, the trick was always deleting libswype files before trying a new install.
The only thing against this method is that you'll get the latest swype available. Which i believe it works far worse than the older ones available in any smasung stock rom (for my language, at least)
swype install
thats the 1 mate, we got it working, superb
now this sh*t is workin again

[Q] Can't install secure settings helper

I'm trying to install helper (busy box already installed) however, every time I try to install it, it reboots my phone. Pushing the apk into system\app also reboots the phone. I can push other apk's and remove apk's from system\app just not the helper apk. When I try to flash the securesettingshelper.zip in CWM it says "installation aborted"
I've tried a number of things to get this working including flashing the bulletproof-1.8 kernel. I've also tried doing the fix here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230341
Does anyone have the helper installed on their device? If so, could you link or guide me through the process?
Thanks
EDIT: solved! not sure what the issue was still, but I just did a full wipe and reinstalled Android Revolution HD 8.0. Perhaps it's because I tried using Rom Cleaner 3.5 for the HTC One X

I got it to work. I just used the normal install from the app itself. nothing special, no apk or cwm zip file. Make sure your root is ok?

yea installing from the app is the first thing I tried. I know my root is good since su is installed and all other apps work fine.
i got the same "installation aborted" when flashing via cmw, but did manual copy paste and change name
(Manually copy to /system/app/SecureSettingsHelper.apk ) and then restart my n7105. now helper is working. will try if pattern unlock is working.
what other people do after installing helper?
