As most of you know, cyanogenmod beats just about everything, in terms of speed and reliability. If you haven't tried it here's the link:

But coming from Sense, one thing i can't stand is how ugly (and sometimes not functional) some of the apps are.
This thread will attempt to compile a list of the top replacement apps for:
Camera(/Video camera)
Browser
Keyboard

I'll post the ones which are generally agreed to be the better ones in the next post, possibly with download links. Please try them, and others, and provide reviews.
Please note, i know that there cannot be one BEST app, but id like to get reviews of the top few, and then anyyone can choose for themselves.
And also, these aren't necessarily for Cyanogenmod only; if you're not happy with the stock apps you can try these out too.

CAMERA:
Ive tried MIUI camera and it works great; takes good pictures, functional and pretty fast. But I heard there were some problems with video capture; not recording 720p.
APK file is in a zip file attached to this post. Unzip, then install like normal APK. (Thanks stony2k)
Camera360 Ultimate seems to be the favourite. Has a whole bunch of options and takes pretty decent pictures. Doesn't support video recording though which sucks.

BROWSER:
After trying a bunch of different browsers, I've got to say that Dolphin Browser HD is the smoothest, most functional of all the browsers, and far better than even the sense browser. It supports gestures, full screen mode, delete history on exit, add ons and all these features make this a must try:

Alternatively, you can try Dolphin Mini. Its extra light, so it uses a lot less memory, and always runs smooth:

KEYBOARD:
If you like the stock HTC keyboard, try this; its a VERY customisable version of HTC's keyboard:

Personally I'd recommend Better Keyboard 8; supports a lot of skins, so you can match it with your theme as well. Not to mention you can change the size of the keys, type of keyboard, sounds etc:

GALLERY:
Alot of people aren't happy with the stock gallery (gallery 3D) in CM7 roms. Personally I think its great; fast, smooth, convenient everything.
However, if it doesn't work for you, you could try Quickpic. The entire idea behind it is that its supposed to be really fast, and it definitely is. It takes a bit to load the thumbnails the first time you launch it, but its amazingly fast, if not a bit too minimalistic:

DIALER: Alot of people like Go dialer, and I've got to agree with them. It has a lot of functions such as t9 dialer (dont know how you can do without it), support for themes etc.

Music Player: Fortunately, there are several options out there that easily beat HTC's music player (which is pretty basic).
First, theres Poweramp. Personally, its my favourite. It has a lot of options that allow you to tweak sound quality, everything from equaliser to SRS and DOLBY, it supports album art download, transparent widgets, skins, fade in/out of songs etc. One of the best :

PROBLEM WITH ADOBE FLASH 10.2:
i.e. video plays but screen is blank, sound works. If you have this problem (NOT limited to cyanogenmod) then heres a fix thats worked for me, everytime: Uninstall previous flash versions, and kill browsers (task manager, reboot). Then download and simply install thanks geko95gek

If you have a problem with flash, then Flash 10.3 might work for you, but it didn't for me.

Works like a charm for those who are having issues with latest versions of Flash player.
Before installation remember to kill your browsers and uninstall previous Flash versions.
Alternative browsers I can recommend:
Skyfire, Dolphin HD, Dolphin Mini.

Go sms and go dialer are good replacements for stock phone and mesaaging app. And quick pic is good gallery replacement not as flashy as the sense one but much quicker than the stock app. And +1 for dolphin as web replacement web browser.

whats the difference between dolphin HD and mini?
and also, would this trick make flash work on Sense roms? Since flash is pre installed in them, would there be a way to uninstall previous version?

Dophin mini is a very light browser, by default when a web page loads it doesnt load flash content. You have to touch the content to make it load, which makes it very fast compared to the HD version of it.
As for flash on Sense, the only way you can remove it as far as I am aware is to have the phone fully rooted first. Then you can uninstall via Titanium Backup, to replace it though with another version you will have to push the apk via adb.

As for music player, I would recommend PlayerPro. Love the layout, feels more logic compared to the other 3rd party players. Skins are also very nice quality and fit very well to the themes.

I think it's better if you post a link to a installable MIUI apk and not only a rom. Not anybudy installs Ultima Droid to have that camera

thanks for the advice.. that was my plan, but i couldnt for the life of me find the apk.. i found something somewhere, but it was a flashable zip for another phone (droid i think) and some said it didnt work that well, either.. could you help me out?

Definitely agree.. i DO have to admit that sense makes everything work together very nicely, but it slows down my phone too much to justify that.. despite that i AM a fan.. i was wondering.. there are several dialers out there.. but is there a way to replace the actual call screen?

Taki this file. Works perfect.
You need tu unrar that file first and than install it as a normal Apk. Do not use this with CWM!

sorry bro, i think you misunderstood my question.. i dont think i typed it right.. what i meant was when you use a cyanogenmod rom you get the stock android call screen, and THATS the one i dont like..

thanks so much! ill put it up in the 2nd post.. i really hope this thread gets some more attention.. its a shame that the cyanogenmod rom devs havent come up with a solution to googles (sorry to say) hideous ui.. they seem to have managed everything else..

Have also tried PowerAMP too, but personally, the layout is a little confusing for me, prefer the interface and the album art system based on the PlayerPro, but to be honest, both very similar and both very good players, just depends on the user. the PowerAMP skins are all too similar? but like I said before, both same, both have DSP adjustments and relatively beautiful interface =)

I haven't got any update notification so far, but I watched the 2.3 video. The URL feature is a great workaround until Mango allows LazyTube to be set as the default youtube video app. Running under lockscreen is nice as well, even though I'll hardly use it. But LazyTube remembering the actual position of a playing video when returning from standby is very nice.
Again, thanks for your hard work, guys. LazyTube is still the best YouTube app out there. By far.

you should do that if u look for a URL and there is only one result, it should just go stright to it, so there is one less press.

I love the play under lock screen, its what made me download ur app.
Only one request, could u put a repeat setting in. So I can put on a long song and leave it on repeat this would make it perfect

Sadly, this app has stopped working for me. I don't know what has changed, but within the past week or so, I can only run the app four or five times after a soft reboot. After that, it crashes as soon as the Lazyworm apps logo screen appears.
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, and also tried the trial version of LazyTube, but both do the same thing. If I reboot my phone, I can run the app a few times again, but eventually it starts crashing on startup.
I've also tried installing SuperTube and EasyTube, and they both work fine (though I don't like either as much as the Lazyworm versions).

Try and contact them via Twitter @lazywormapps, Facebook or through the in app email support. They're really helpful and I'm convinced they'll get that sorted out for you.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. But I am concerned that they won't be able to do much, since it sounds like I'm the only person experiencing this problem. I wonder if I have a registry setting that is corrupted somehow, causing the crash.
The puzzling thing is that both of the other YouTube apps work perfectly.

[ROM][27/11][ICS] ICS4Fire [3G/DATA][v4][STOPPED]

Wifi will never work on this ROM, because hero and buzz have different wifi chipset. If anyone can get a ICS rom with the BCM Wifi chipset ported I can get wifi to work.
I have not got a full fix for the synaptics softkeys yet, flash the softkey mod if you have a synaptics screen or your softkeys do not work.
SuperUser is included, but it fc's, you need to flash the 3.0.7 efgh zip file from http://androidsu.com/superuser

Wifi will not work on this ROM
[v4]Partially fixed synaptics touchscreen driver, only softkeys do not work with this ROM and that screen. You need to use the softkeys mod posted below if you want fully functioning softkeys.
[v4]Added IDC file for synaptics touchscreen, should work, if not, I have another one.
[v4]Added superuser binary and app - force closes so you need to download the zip and flash it at the link on the top of this page.
[v3]Switched to full package update, if you are coming from another rom, wipe data, if you are upgrading this rom, just flash.
[v3]Added SuperUser App due to request, seems to be not working, still need to flash the above file.
[v2]Data/3G works, calling does too, and so does texting, not sure about mic so can somebody test from the other end of the call?

[v1]Got touchscreen working and softkeys, but home softkey does not work, not so important though, back, menu and search work.

What works:
Touchscreen, this thread helped alot with it, just had to swap and switch a bit with the code because of differences between the MSM8X60 and the MSM722X boards.
What does not work:
Bluetooth, WiFi, some other stuff.
This is just a ROM to play with, arco will bring us the real ICS.
THERE IS NO BOOT.IMG, I USE A ZIMAGE INSTEAD!
PERFORM A NANDROID BEFORE FLASHING, THIS ROM IS EXPERIMENTAL!
I will not be held responsible for ANYTHING, thats right, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE for any damage done to your device.
Wipe data first, otherwise it will fc on com.android.phone.

Softkeys take up a little bit of the screen, and overlap the lockscreen a little too.

Anyway, if I don't post much on this topic that is because I am getting a new phone soon (Xperia Play) and so I don't have credit on my phone (to use data to visit the forum) and so when I am on the computer (after school - yes I am only 15) I will then post updates and stuff.

JuFlashed, runs succesfully with a MTD. Runs great with no proper ARMv6 intergration and such. Software GL possibly needs work as gallery doesnt load images (guessing thats related). Camera force closes to me, googles worked on hiding the developer side to android with much nicer messages "Camera has sadly closed unexpecetly" compared to "Camera has force closed". Will be waiting for a update to your rom or arcos. You forgot to include market too. Havent attempted to flash gapps yet!
Basically, Its great. Just needs a few fixes for Wi-Fi and Data. Then I'll be using this as a daily driver. You dont need to resize anything. Just possibly some font smoothing here and there.
Off-Topic: If you're buying a xperia play on three. Check out some of their data and text offers! (15 Pounds a month. 3000 Texts. 300 Minuites. Unlimited Internet.) Its what I use with my Wildfire and does exactly what it does on the tin! Plus I get decent speeds for the bad 3G coverage

Basically, Its great. Just needs a few fixes for Wi-Fi and Data. Then I'll be using this as a daily driver. You dont need to resize anything. Just possibly some font smoothing here and there.

Next thing to do is include superuser and NoFrills CPU Control.
Also, I think data might be related to a wierd build.prop, because the phone refuses to come out of aeroplane mode.

My music loads up fine for me. Loaded all my albums instantly and got album art for some. Just no sound to enjoy it!

And when you try to search some network to connect, it say no CDMA antenna

Agreed with the others, runs pretty smooth, just I noticed the keyboard is too big and is cut off so you can't really type properly, and there's a weird orange border that pops up every now and again when I do certain setting tasks...I noticed this using the ARMv7 build on the emulator so I don't think that's device specific. Plus loading the gallery, at first the images show but if you open one it goes black or a coloured square...pinch to zoom works though!
The home key doesn't work as it should but it does do something: when you press it it acts as if you've moved the trackball and highlights the first on-screen object.
Also due to the radio issue it shows CDMA mobile settings despite the fact I've got a GSM version...and setting a different timezone (GMT+2) doesnt work.
Otherwise great stuff!
Lookig forward to updates!

No wifi bt and gps.
Home button dont work.
No signal for calling.
No volume (for music)
Camera force close.
No fm radio. (But that is personol if you add it it will be used everday )
But it runs very good

I've noticed this on some dev builds of android as well as Android-x86. It could be related to the touchscreen driver, or a general graphic bug. I think it could be disabled somehow though.

cant manipulate home screens. when you long press an icon it rotates the screen instead of giving you control over moving/removing app
edit: a reboot fixed this =)

Oh snaps. Will have to look at this tomorrow. Too late for me to fiddle around tonight =( Wish I checked earlier.

Wow this rom flies compared to stock. Well done. Can't wait to use the browser and not have it be terribly slow.

I'm having the same problem. When I reboot it solves the issue only for a while, then it reappears. I've installed Apex Launcher thinking that it was a Trebuchet problem but it was the same.
And when I disable Auto Rotating, the whole screen goes to landscape mode, but I don't know if that is normal behavior or not.

I'm having this issue as well. I hope it will get fix soon. I'll stop customizing it now.
All in all this one rom is very smooth and fast.

Another bug, if you run Camera app, the rotation is upside down. Status bar will appear on top.

Ya, what the hell... I'm in.

Everything working great here so far. Great battery life too.
I did have the weird rotate issue when using apex or trebuchet but now I'm on go launcher HD and everything works fine.

I'm assuming you mean the mic isn't working, which I can second. My hardware acceleration is working fine I think though.

I'll 3rd the microphone. Tried to use Viggle last night to check into a TV show and it did nothing at all. Thought it was an app problem at first, until I saw these posts.

Chrome beta doesn't really work either.
The browser will open but nothing ever gets displayed.
Still an awesome ROM for this tablet. Thanks guys!

+1 for Chrome not working. And mic. Too bad, because this ROM is really great! Curious, though, can we hope to see mass storage mounting on here at any point?

It's been said, but chrome beta not working is almost definitely a problem with HW codecs. Over at the Droid 3 forums, we all have this problem on custom ICS roms because of our locked bootloader. Because this bootloader ISN'T locked, it'll be easy (in comparison) to get it running.

I can't access the download from the browser that came with the last build...
The browser opens to mediafire and send like it tries to load the page but the window stays blank.
Without mass USB storage, there are limited options to get build 35 onto the device.
Is anyone else having this problem?

Yeah. I saw this too. Tried on my Linux laptop and it works. Would not work in dolphin HD either for me.
As far as uploading the build, I have an external SD card in the tablet and I used adb push to send it to the sd card and it worked fine.

One other thing I forgot. The volume seemed a little bit low. It may have just been me, but I could've sworn the volume at it's max (which plugged in to earphones and other output) was lower than in the stock ROM.

This App will help you enable the on-screen SoftKey (like the one present on Nexus devices) easily. Please make sure that you have a Rooted device. Navigating via SoftKey is easier than using hardware buttons specially with the big screen devices (e.g. Note 2). Also this app can be used with your phone if you somehow damaged your phone hardware keys. It is compatible with stock and custom ROMs (like CyanogenMod, AOKP etc). Please note that some stock launcher may seem a bit odd as they were not designed to go nicely with the on-screen button layout. To fix this issue use any other launcher available on Play Store.
There are two versions of SoftKey Enabler - One is absolutely free (with ads) and other is paid (Pro Version). The only difference between two versions is Ads.

Because this app just activates native android keys which are hidden by default if you have hard keys on your phone. And this feature is only available from 4.0 onwards

downloaded free app. work perfectly on my galaxy mini II running CM10

Love this! Is there any way to remap the keys? I always wanted that left one to be a search function. Running an S3 on Verizon if that helps

Thanks for trying. Actually the App uses native Android methods and wanted to keep it as simple as clicking on a button. A lot of people wanted to have the stock experience. But I will look into this and will surely update if it can be done keeping everything simple

I tried the free version but it didn't actually work for me (somehow I thought I'd see an extra bar of keys on my HTC One S but apparently it just places them on my current soft keys pad, which is OK but not exactly what I was looking for). Anyways, after I installed it I clicked on "reboot" but it didn't reboot my device so I did it myself. After a reboot, I realized this was not what I was looking for so I got into the application and disabled it. Again, it asked for a reboot but I had to do it manually once again. After this reboot I proceeded to unistall the application.
Now, the problem is, somehow, I completely lost the 3 vertical dots on Google Play (the ones on the upper right). How is this possible and even more important, how do I get this button back? I can't see my installed applications anymore or change Google Play settings. Please help. Thanks.

You may probably want to give this a closer look because it isn't working properly on HTC One S devices under ICS 4.0.3. Have a nice day!

Could you please let me know if you have Root and busybox installed as described in the App description ? The App automatically creates a backup of the previous settings so if you want to bring back the previous configuration then you can try the "Restore" option from the menu.
To enable softkey the App modifies some system configuration so uninstalling the App is not a solution. Rather I would recommend the "Restore" option. Further OEMs do alter some system files so it is difficult to predict each system behavior.

Yes, my device is rooted and Busybox is installed. Since I already uninstalled it I think a second installation won't actually restore my system because the application makes an automatic backup when it's started (I actually tried it and it was exactly how I expected). In any case, the problem is solved by enabling and then unistalling from Google Play or Settings. I hope this didn't change other parts of my system, I guess time will tell (I see it modifies the build.prop).

I take it as " It is working on your device." Thanx for testing and reporting.

It does not work on the htc desire c,
It doesnt reboot and if i reboot the phone myself
nothing visible has happend and when i open the app it says its disabled.
I would realy like this on the desire c because the hardware buttons dont give light.

the option key works to bring up the task manager and not as the menu key.... is there any solution????
