[Q] Headset sound quality - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

Hello Everyone,
I have a Moto Milestone. I would like to use Milestone as MP3 player. I plugged the original Milestone headset and the sound quality was awful. There was no sub bass at all!) From that time, I used my previous phone (Nokia N73) as MP3 player (it's sound is extremely good compare to Milestone.)
Today I got a Nokia headset with a voice call button on it. I plugged it to my Milestone and the sound was awful, BUT if I push the button on the Headset the sound of the Milestone become extremely beautiful, I hear sub basses and higher sounds too.
Can anyone has idea for this? Can someone tell me, how will such a good voice come from Milestone's original headset?
Thanks.

?
Hi There,
There is no one, who has this problem?

I just use DSP Manager and poweramp's EQ to adjust the audio. Now I get really good audio from it after massive tweaking.
Still not as good as my old Archos Gmini400.
Also I re-read your post and that thing with the headset button is weird as hell.
I just use fairly high end headphones. (AKG K518LE)

Thanks for the answer. But it is true. I use a Sony-Ericsson X10 mini's headset and if I push the button in the headset, the sound quality became as same as my Sennheiser HD435.
I'm thinking about short-circuited the headset's button ...

Kaiser TyTn II and Bluetooth Audio

i really hope its me............. i hope its something i am doing wrong
i have heard virtually all HTC products...........and everyone has paired up just fine with my car bluetooth kit (BMW 3 series, 06 plate)
i eagerly awaited the Kaiser as the complete utopic device.............and i still think it is..............except..............THE WEEDY, TINNY, LOW VOLUME audio when on Handsfree !!!!!!!!!!!!
my carkit allows upto 4 devices to be memorised, so i have paired my HTC Touch, my HTC S710 and the TyTn II to it.......... the first 2 are perfect, rich, bassy sound with good volume that is perfectly audible even on the motorway.................
the TyTn II is VERY low, just about audible in stationary traffic and not at all bassy........... you remember those weedy HiFi systems that had about 5w Total output and could be bought for £29.99 !!!!!
i have seen a few posts saying the same thing........... i wonder if it is HTC's ROM that has this??? what about the T-Mobile users or perhaps the Dopod users??
i guess it is objective........... if you have never had a HTC device, you would have nothing to judge it by and therefore you are probably satisfied......but i have had LOADS of different devices, HTC and Mobile carrier branded, and none are as pathetic as the TyTn II on Bluetooth audio........... it is seriously stopping me using it as my main phone device which is such a big shame
PLEASE......... if anyone has any reg tweaks, rom upgrades, suggestions, ideas let me know.............. this £450 device is nowhere near as good as my wife's £30 mobile phone when it comes to audio...............
cheers
Mark
PS have to say, the audio is fine when you listen into the internal speaker or on speakerphone, so not sure it is the audio chip ???
Hi. I have the AT&T tilt and I noticed the same thing when using the audio section for playing mp3's via my Jabra BT620's when I play music using the built in wmp I cant quite get the volume I like so I switched to using CorePlayer 1.1.1 which has a preamp option in it and I can tell you for a fact there is nothing wrong with bluetooth volume when you do that. So it is probably going to be an easy software fix or even a simple registry hack to fix the volume issue.

that sounds good.............but as well as the Bluetooth volume its also the quality of the audio that i find hard to explain, no bass, just really tinny
but....... i would be happy to even increase the volume only at this stage!
Something to try: when bluetooth connection is active, tap the speaker icon on the taskbar of your today screen and turn the left hand volume slider up for more A2DP volume and the right hand volume slider up for more handsfree volume. I've tested the left hand slider & it works like a charm for hifi audio. On my 5 series, the audio sounded fine if I just bumped the volume using the steering wheel controls so I haven't tested the effect of the right hand slider on handsfree audio.

yep, bluetooth active, tap the icon, both sides up at maximum. place a call, turn 'in call' volume up to maximum, still really low and weedy !
tried the steering wheel volume and also the radio volume and still no joy!
as i said, all other devices are fine, just the tytn!
thanks for the suggestion though
maybe theres a problem with the bluetooth/wifi ariel as i have issues with my bluetooth totally failing when i turn on wifi
It works fine with the Lexus car kit. However the audio is mono and comes from the left channel only

if you dont want it in mono try PocketPlayer it will more then likely fix your problem. I love audible books, and this is now my default program for listening to them over bluetooth.
Definitely something wrong with mine. I think we should keep communicating with HTC until they fix it. My Blueant Z9 is unusable. No bass, and when I had the volume turned all the way up [both phone and headset], it almost broke my ear drum. Yet, I hardly can make out the sound coming from the ear set. I had no problem with 8525. It definitely has something to do with the antenna or the driver.
I am hoping HTC will respond to this asap.
I'm using a JawBone and what I notice, is when I use the headset to increase volume, the volume doesn't seem to actually be increasing, even tho the headset is giving acknowledgment beeps.
Seems I don't really have any control over the bluetooth headset volume. Nothing I can perceive anyway.
-James
I can say that the fidelity on the bluetooth stereo is absolutely awesome on mine. I just used Coreplayer so I could boost the volume a tad using the preamp settings.
maybe each profile in your car kit stores unique settings for bass etc - have you tried fiddling with its settings?
There are several threads running about this. I have Jawbones and it appears that it's mainly the phone BT audio that has issues. I can use BT audio toggle and divert Coreplayer or SlingBox or iGuidance Nav sounds out to the Jawbone and they sound loud, bassy and clear.
I then place a call and the sound is wimpy and low. It's not and antenna problem, I use BT internetsharing and BT headsets all day long with this Kaiser with good range. It's "hopefully" a software issue between the phone's audio output to bluetooth. The phone's audio quality on the naitive phone's earpiece and speaker are very good quality, better quality, than my 8525 had.
It's frustrating, it's the only major flaw in the phone and HTC seems clueless in all the responses I've seen to date.
just in case anyone is interested, i have found a small improvement by doing the following:-
using a registry editor
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth/A2DP/Settings
change USEJOINTSTEREO from 1 to 0
if nothing else, it just seems louder.....................
hope it helps

Perhaps this tweak could be included in Chainfire's utility?

What's the sound quality from the speaker like?

I currently have an XDA IIs and the sound through the speaker is kinda meh, I'm thinking of getting a Touch Pro which I assume will have the same speaker as the Diamond and I'm wondering if you who have one will give me the heads up.
What's the quality/dynamic range like?
Is it loud?
Does it distort too much at higher volume levels?
I know some may question what I can expect from a phone speaker, lol, but there can be differences.
Thanks.
Not good. The sound is thin, so as the phone.
That was honest and helpful.
Thanks.

the sound from mine is fine, works like a charm.
The external speaker is for voice, if you want it to play "decent" music get some headphones or plug it into a stereo.
Could you tell me which music player you are using??
I am using the default player in TouchFlo3D. Tried built in speaker, bundled headphone, and my own headphone with 35mm mini plug adapter...all sound like old AM radio. No bass and high pitch is a bit scratchy.
Bluetooth A2DP + my headphone is much better, though far from perfect.

im using the builtin one, what encoding are you're MP3's?
Checked Media Properties by CorePlayer:
Audio: MPEG Layer-3
Codec: CoreMP3
Audio Format: 44100Hz 2Ch
Data Bit Rate: 320kbit/s
Duration ~4mins
FileSize ~10MB
Thanks walshieau. My problem with headphone is solved. It was due to buggy Audio Booster. More detail here:

Of course I agree with you that we can't expect too much from the built in speaker.
Sound from external speaker
I have Pocket Player for my TD and it has an equalizer built in that you can customize. I have the sound from my external speaker sounding very good, ( I think) with Bass. It doesnt rock my pocket...but...its much better than it was. I find it very acceptable.
not good for mp3 ringtone it like the speaker cant Handle it
the sound get crap when you turn up the volume

I come from a nokia 7710 (first real touch screen in the world) and that speaker was LOUD, the one on Diamond is kindo bad. Forget about bassss.
gbye.
Yeah, I think the problem is not just the quality, but the loudness too.
If you use this with a Sat nav program (e.g., TomTom), at the maximum volume the audio commands are not loud enough when driving and with the car's radio on
Anybody knows of any trick/tweak to modify the volume range on Diamond, even if it gets distorted, as I really just need loudness for sat nav directions.

Standard Headset Issue

Hi there
I'm having something of a weird problem. I was playing around with my MDA Compact IV (might i add: this housing looks much slicker then the standard), and i pulled out the headset while listening to music in the standard TouchFLO mediaplayer. When i put the headset back in the audio-quality became really crappy, as if i was calling to someone who's holding up a radio on his side of the line. This also now affects Windows Media Player, but not the FM Radio. Has anybody else had this issue?
Today I used my MDA Compact IV for the first time as a mp3 player, with the standard (crappy) headphones.
I've noticed that the sound is SH!T.
No bass at all, tried the 'audio-booster' option, but the sound doesn't get better.
Than I tried the FM-modus, and noticed that the radio sound was better.
Not verry good, but BETTER....
HOW comes? Are the standard headphones crap? Is the 'soundprocessor' crap, or what?
At this moment it's not usable as a good mp3 player...
And what about the volume? At max, it's still not really loud.
EDIT: Strange.... unplugged/plugged the headphones again, tried it in windows mediaplayer (first I tried it in the touchflow audio player) and now it sounds better, also more/deeper bass, in both player.
But still: The sound is absolutely nothing compared to a good Ipod. Is this due to the crappy headphone (thought that the mda compact IV headphone isn't the same as the touch diamond one...)
Well thing is, using the Audio Booster i had the audio to pretty decent quality, nice and warm with enough bass. So then i yanked out the headset and now it's ****ty... What gives?
crappy sound quality resolved
hi guys,
i got this problem a couple of times, and it was really annoying as i knew it wasnt right cos listening to music was the first thing i did with my diamond and i was amazed by the sound quality, but i had exactly the same issue a few days later, tried to listen to music and audio quality was so poor it hurt my ears! so i did a hard reset and the sound quality was perfect again. then a few days later it happened again. i have narrowed it down to installing 'advanced config'. both times the issue came about was after i had installed advanced config. i havnt installed since and my sound has been perfect for ages. i have installed games and other apps and still fine, so for me, im damn sure its advanced config that did it, hope this helps, just do a hard reset and it will be fine again, just keep an eye on what happens after you install something!
Okay, found the answer:
There is a BUG in the AUDIO-BOOSTER.
Try:
Plug in your headphone, choose MUSIC in TFL3D, go to menu-audio-booster, turn it on, listen to the music, unplug the headphone while music is playing. Plug it in again and you here that all the bass is gone and quality is crap.
Stop music, disable the Audio-Booster option, play your music again and the sound quality is good again!
So DON'T use the AUDIO-BOOSTER, cause everytime you unplug your headphones, the music becomes crap again!
Wow thanks, that really helped d'you suppose HTC will bring out a fix for this?
Another solution
Hi everyone,
You're right, there is a bug with the bass sound on the Diamond.
After some experiences, i found this way to solve the problem:
1- Plug de headphones (original)
2- Open de Radio Fm application and after hearing some sound, close it.
3- Goto the music tab and play the MP3 (with equalizer on).
4- Change de volume.
After this steps normally there is bass again.
By the way, does anyone know if the use of other headphones (not the original) improves the quality of Diamond's sound (Hi frequencies) ?
I want to buy an usb adapter for "normal" jack headphones but I don't have idea whether it is worth.
Regards
i found that bluetooth headsets are not affected by this problem, whenever i had this problem, if i used a A2DP headset, it was not affected by the loss of bass or any quality at all, just the USB headset was affected

Stereo bluetooth headset

Which stereo bluetooth headset works with the HD2?
The SonyEricsson HBH-IS800 is really nice, but you cannot control the volume of this headset.
Nokia BH 500
I noticed that! You can't control the volume of any bluetooth A2DP devices. SO STUPID!! There must be a fix for this?
Sony DR-BT21G works as well with my Leo as it does with my Walkman. Volume control and track controls both work. Not too sure that it works with phone calls though, as I haven't yet tried it.

Hi,
I have this headset also and i'm satisfied with the quality of the sound. The volume is just right for me out of the box. So i didn't notice until now you can't change the volume from the phone.
I added two keys to blue-tooth registry, but i don't think it added to the sound-quality. Maybe there is a key for that volume. Still looking for a tool to do that. What it does do is randomly give me no audio during playback for 3 or 4 seconds :-( (Witch is really annoying). I get compliments from people when i''m on the phone about the audio quality. Even when riding my bike in windy conditions. So thats a good thing. I think the cord could do with another 5 centimeter. I think they forget about the difference in neck size of western people when they developed the thing Japan ;-).
Battery life is better than my old one.
Before this i had the HBH-DS980 on the TYTNII, but the cord broke. This one can display the phonebook and change volume and skip to the next song etc., but i think the size of the HBH-IS800 and sound quality makes up for that.
I'd like to hear from other owners of this device if they experience the same audio interruption problem.
Rgrds, Helssblade.
iam using Sony HBHDS980
Everything works fine including,
1. Music player in manila music tab play, pause, next, prev & volume.
2. Contacts display 7 browsing
3. Call history browsing.
4. In call volume adjustment.
Only problem is,
Need to increase the incall volume after every reconnection.
Nokia BH 503 works great with the LEO. Even coreplayer works with the pause play and next buttons.
Hi,
I'm listening music with the HBH-DS970 Bluetooth headphones.
I noticed, that the soundquality is quite poor, especially the high notes.
Are there any tweaky to improve the soundquality through bluetooth?
Thanks
Philips Taster SHB7110 works perfect!

I have the same headset and the souns is like am radio,,I think at the problem is in the bluetooth configuration, this phone is coming whit bluetooth 2.1 and maybe this is one of the problems, the another one is att you cant no change the audio parameters in bluetoth like I do in my xperia,so spensive and so meny problems
HBH-IS800
DR-BT160AS...
...is working fine for me.
Everything like Volume, Skipping, Searching, Pause/Play and talking via the headsetfunction ist fine.
Voice is clear at the other end of the "wire"
Really light and works for about 6 hrs. on normal volume (hearing until jogging)
Just got my set of Jaybird JB200...
I had to edit this post and write my updated impressions about the set... The next/prev buttons now work like a charm, even with the main Sense player, which I still prefer over players like PocketPlayer or Core Player... The peering is still kinda sketchy... The phone doesn`t ask for the key of the set and sometimes it does not register Stereo sound from the first try... It seems the way to make it register stereo is having a stereo feed live... like a song playing... The sound itself is very good, I`m satisfied with the quality and the look of the earphones...
If anyone knows a solution for the peering problems please give me a tip...

[Q] [Mod]Use Second Speaker on Xperia Z for Stereo Sound (Like Tablet Z)

Hey Dudes/Dev's
What i want:
I want to Create a Mod which us allow to use the Front Speaker+Side Speaker for Stereo Music
See Attached Pic...
I have tested the Loudness of the Front Speaker and i think the Volume Level is nearly the same to the Side Speaker!(?)
I want to let the Music play over the 2 Speakers like:
Front (Call-)Speaker=Left Audio Channel + Side (Loud-)Speaker=Right Channel=Stereo!?
Click to collapse
Steps:
-1. Find files which include the Speaker config. Maybe lib-so files?
-2. Find the right way to edit. Maybe i can compare the files between Tablet Z and Xperia Z to find the diffrence?
-#. Edit files to -> Playing Music-> 2 Speaker's active (2 Channels Left-Right),Call Option1-> 1 Speaker active,Call Option2-> 2 Speaker active
-3. Find a Way to make both Speaker's to the same Loudness Level
maybe more...
I really don't know what's needed for this so Please Help!
BR
Good idea
Another excellent idea, though sound when watching movies is allready pretty good, true stereo imaging would be a massive plus.
Good luck with this

Sounds like a good idea but then again, earpiece is not nearly as powerful as the main speaker and can result in funny stereo audio lol FYI, the stereo speaker positions are a bit weird
In order to achieve in what you want, we need to route all audio playback to play on two channels which is the earpiece and speaker at the same time. We can either do this on a specific configuration file or kernel modifications. I am not sure how to do this as I haven't tried before but it's a start
It's too bad that Sony did not make two speakers positioned like the HTC one... Would of been epic...

wow didnt see you Replied to this thread nice to hear from you...
It's really bad with the Speaker Position... sometimes my right hand mute the Speaker
but back to the idea... it's like you say,the Earpiece is not really Powerful (It's a really Clear Speaker, but no Bass) so you think it's not loud enough for stereo? Maybe we can use it to Support the other speaker (more Virtual Sound or such,i think you know whats good )
The Point is still to find out how we can use the second speaker :crying:
the only idea i have is to find the related files and watch the same files on a Stereo Speaker Tablet to see what we need to change...
when it works we have really found a General Mod for a lot of Devices with low Volume Speaker Devices.

You won't find any related files which will route your speaker and earpiece together.
We need to re-route the audio playback with earpiece and speaker activated at the same time to make both speakers to sound like stereo. If you compare with Tablet Z, you will not find anything because the configurations for that is to route audio playback to both the speaker components and if we do that then it still won't work because we don't have that 2nd speaker.
If we can re-route the speakers into stereo, then we can manually increase the earpiece to make it sound as loud as the main speaker
This is just an idea remember, I don't actually know how we will do this
Any progress on this excellent idea?
