[Q] 3G Network not working after updating to 2.2 - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i used odin to flash my captivate...Now my 3G network isnt working. Instead of 3G it shows an "E" next to the bars which i assume stands for Edge and I am not able to connect to anything using it D:

Are you on Rogers or AT&T? As far as I know no ROMs have the proper APNs for Rogers, and that could be your problem.

I have had the same problem, you have to manual put in the apn setting for Rogers or At & T. Once you have them back in, use apn backup and restore, a free app to back them up.

how would u manually put in the settings?

No need. I'll attach my Rogers APN backup.
Download APN Backup and Restore, then extract my zip file into the root of your sdcard (So the full directory will be /sdcard/ApnBackupRestore/whateverthexmlisnamed.xml). Launch APN Backup and Restore, then hit Restore APNs and you're good to go!

unable to connect to data network

While I was flashing a hero rom, I accidentally chose restore nandroid backup and aborted in the middle when i was in cyanogen's recovery. So I wiped, partitioned, wiped, and flashed. The Rom flashed successfully but I can't connect to any data networks.
It shows the APN I'm using is epc.tmobile.com but there's no icon (3g or EDGE) next to the bars on the top that show my signal; I cannot do anything that requires a data network (can't browse the net). Please help me. Under settings where it shows network operators, it shows select a network operator no matter how many times i choose t-mobile. I already re-flashed the radio again too (2.22.19.26).
I reflashed 3 different roms already, hero and donut roms. Everytime, i can't get into any data networks. I should add that in the apn list there's never more than 2 apn's (both epc.tmobile.com) Any other ideas? Thanks, any help is appreciated.
Why not restore the nandroid backup you aborted? If not, reflash the radio.
Fixed...sorry everyone.
I tried calling t-mobile again to have them reset the network for my device and this time it fixed my problems.

gingerbread att tab

Just flashed the new gingerbread rom. Works great but it doenst recognize my sim card or network. I have att tab. Any help to restore it?
Did you remember to download the Modem package too? That's what I'm guessing.
sent from my Galaxy Tab using Cerebral up-link
Did you flash the version with the bootloader? Any whiteline issue on boot?
No I didn't download or flash a modem do I need to? I flashed the one with the bootloader. No whiteline I noticed.
I flashed with bootloader, tried 2 different modems, and no network. wifi works. tried flashing back to stock and everything went crazy. While I was using Odin, I STUPIDLY, plugged in my Captivate to charge without thinking, causing Odin to fail and I got the "phone - ! - PC" Icon.......talked about scared! Ended up using Roto's ATT stock image and Odin to get it back running again, barely. Now I get CRAZY lines when I boot (like if you tweaked the cable to an LCD screen), can't see Recovery screen....total craziness. Still no data. so I flashed back to OverCome Gingerbread ROM following his instructions, still no data
UNTIL
I swapped the SIM card with my phone. I suddenly got data on my Tab, but data would not function on my phone. Seems like the problem follows my SIM. Background: I also had a weird issue before hand where I couldn't open the Market on Cellular data without killing the data connection on Stock Rooted.
Thought I'd share.
EDIT: oh, and I can send text messages without issue.
Go to Settings, Wireless & Network, Mobile Networks, Access Point names and make sure you have one called Broadband (assuming you are on the ATT monthly data only plan)
If you dont, create a new APN and name it Broadband & make the APN Broadband as well. Just leave the other options and save it & select it.
I think by default it comes up with the ATT wap.cingular APN with doesnt work with the Tab Data plan.

Well Son of B....you rock. What pisses me off is I've screwed up my boot screen (all kinds of colored lines) trying to fix this. Thanks.

Gingerbread 2.3.3 installed modem does not work
AT&T monthly pay as you go. What modem.bin do I load? Where can I get it. Is there any additional setup instructions?
Follow my instructions above and flash the JK3 modem fromt this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069727
Mine keeps saying insert sim card to access. So how do I get it to recognize the sim?
Please anyone with some help? Can I store back to original att froyo and just wait for official upgrade?
Have you guys entered in your APN settings for ATT Broadband?
I am also having a strange radio issue. I am using an ATT Tab with Overcome v2.0 Beta 2 and the JK3 modem. 3G data works great until I try to access the Google Android Market. As soon as I do it drops the 3G connection and wont come back until I reboot it. If I dont go to the market or only go to the market on WiFi it works just fine. I also verified that the same behavior happens with the JPZ modem..
My theory is somehow ATT is blocking Gingerbread Tabs from going to the market using their SIM card. Therefore I think maybe I need to edit my build.prop to spoof them. Can anyone recommend which values should be changed? Can anyone think of anything else that could cause this? Can anyone reproduce this issue on their ATT tab?

You used the bootloader patch app, right?
Reinstall the stock 2.3, then the root, then overcome. Follow the overcome guide, this time put the modem.bin in the phone slot in odin. There is no other fox for the wiggly lines. If you don't reflash everything, you can't get into recovery mode.
i cant get into the network settings as it tells me to insert a sim. I tried to flash the modem as well with no luck.
ok so I turned on my tab to play with it a bit and I had data! It was an H and seemed to work. When I restarted the tab it stopped working and said no sim again.
1) The Gingerbread rom has a modem with it that works fine on AT&T.
2) Did you leave your sim card in while flashing?
i did leave my sim in while flashing. Should I have it out? It seems the tab only recognizes the sim card every so often. Not all the time. Any way to flash the sim recognition part?
Could you please post how you flashed your att tab so I can follow it? Thanks.

People that are using windows http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1139715 this is what I used to install 2.3.4 HKTW
After I did all that I root my Phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1140110
2.Install Radio 01.97.00R for AT&T http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1128963
a.Turn off phone. Hold up volume and power keys at same time till it boots up to RSD and plug phone into computer.

3.APN
I upload my APN for AT&T, (Update) Should be able to send and receive pictures and video to and from people for At&t only!
Download ApnManager From Market.
Put ApnManager Folder in to the internal sdcard.
Open ApnManager and click resort APN. See if u can now send and receive, If not try restarting.
My old APN had Custom Tethering that messed up Picture Messaging! You can try deleting that if u can't send or receive pictures!

your links dont work.
I am on ATT and did not have a single issue on this rom with 3G or any other APN related issues.
I didn't even have to detect network to get it to run.

Same with me after running Nav's Mod file. I will try this and reset settings later to see if it fixes my internet issues.
Seriously? Do you have to post a tutorial for this? Are you that desperate for a thanks? Look around there are at least 3 threads with this same info.

Some people need more hand-holding than others. Making it idiotproof has a niche.
i have flashed this mulitple time. fresh. unlocked. rooted. everything. i cant get it to work on my phone, i get a signal and the one bar thing but no data. its fkn gay/weird. i only get this with 2.3.4. anyone know what i am doing wrong or can help me? i woulkd really appreciate it.
Settings for internet if on 3 Network
Ok at first when i go my phone i couldn't make a calls, and when i did the phone would restart itself. So i flashed the radio to 87.00r and it worked.
Then i had to manually set up the apn in order for my internet to work (Mobile Data)
Menu, Settings, Wireless & Networks,Mobile Networks, Access Point Names, create or edit apn.
Name - 3
APN - three.co.uk
ANP TYPE - default
save settings and restart your phone - and that's it really.
I downloaded APN Manager as you stated. I'm in Minnesota, and I switched the APN to one for T-Mobile and got double the speed. Why is that?

How did u flash 2.3.4 and U have your APN set up right and select HSPA and restart. U can check if trying to connect, Go to Settings, to About phone, to Status And Its under Mobile network state!
FOR THOSE ON AT&T
If you are on the AT&T Network and you upgraded to GB from Froyo and didn't delete your APNs or carried them over using Titanium Backup, you should be fine.
For those of you who didn't or installed Navalynt's Mod/reset your data/whatever else you did to lose your APNs, you don't need to download APN Manager in order to get it back.
It seems the problem with the defaulted APN for AT&T in this particular build is that it is missing the password. If you put back in the password, it works perfectly fine. The password is 'CINGULAR1'. So for anyone having problems with their APNs, try defaulting it or just adding the password in first.
Let me know how that goes for you guys
P.S. Can we get someone to mod the default APN to include the password? Or even better, to replace the defaults and add in the defaults from Froyo build? If someone can (or i can try to look into it) that'd be amazing

[Q] loss 3G [email protected]

hi,i am using milestone 3(ME863)@Hong Kong version.
after i flashed DROID3-CM9-03-28-SELFKANG, my 3g data no longer works, the signal is fine, i can make/receive calls but as for data, market/internet anything requiring a connection it just does not work unless connected to a wifi network.
Moreover, i have changed the build.prop to gsm but i still cannot use 3g data.
so how can i get back the 3g data?
(sorry for my bad english )
there's a new issue, after i pressed the USA band, my phone did not have any signal. How can i get back the signal?
Searching pays. There's this fix here. The poster uses a XT862 but has XT883's (a.k.a ME863) radio installed on it so his phone should be on the same page as yours and you can safely try this fix. There are lot of guys here using Droid 3 on GSM so you should look around a bit.
Good luck!

thx for your reply. But i still cannot get any 3g data after replaced the build.prop, i only receive the signal. However, when i changed back to stock rom, i can use 3G data and signal. Moreover, i modified the libmoto_ril.so. i can receive 3G data for a second. After that it will disconnect automatically and then it will turn on for a second again.
How can i solve the problem?

Have you updated the internet settings in the device? After flashing CM9 and if you are using GSM, you have to manually go in and set the wap settings if they are not correct on the sim card.

thx for your reply. After i flash cm9 again, i can get the signal again but the new problem is that i cannot use 3g data....
Are that all of the custom roms in this froum cannot support gsm 3g data? i changed the build.prop of all that rom but i still cannot use 3g data
There might be a solution for the 3G Data Connection.
I have a Droid 3 XT862 with the Chinese Radio (XT883 as yours i believe) and my provider is AT&T. I am running CM9 and after i used the buid.prop from this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23884104&postcount=1368
3G connection worked just fine. Don't try to flash this zip file through safestrap as it won't (at least no go for my occasion). Uznip it and copy the build.prop file to sd card. Then move it to /system by using Root Explorer (so you can mount /system as RW). Before do that, rename the old build.prop to build.prop.bak so you can have a copy in case new one won't work. You must also change the permissions to the new build.prop to rw-r-r . Finally reboot your phone and see if it will work.
My phone is running CM9 with XT883 radio and my 3G is working just fine.
