I don't know how to with Tasker, but it can be done with Widgetsoid, which is free.
You select to make a widget on your homescreen, choose switcher, and then select "Enable/Disable Mobile Data" on the network tab.
I figured it out and made a Widget with Tasker. I would like to edit this Widget but don't know how or even if you can edit a Widget once you have created it.

Even easier would be to just eliminate the "press here to start tethering" screen -- just activate it and self terminate.
No need to go to the extreme of making a memory munching widget when all you need is a button!
the widget is a good idea, but would be memory consuming, i prefer a simple option in settings or spare parts, you can always use any cut to create a shortcut to the homescreen from it. But I got the app on home screen so its really not much trouble just few extra clicks....automatic enable/disable, or one button access would be nice though
thank you, i will try better cut...
better cut doesn't seem to have to option
Is there a widget to turn on/off the mobile network? Sense had that kind of widget but i'm not using sense any more... I tried to find it from Market with no luck.
Long press 'end call' button from anywhere, last option is Activate/desactivate mobile data.
I like "Toggle Data" nice looking widget.
thank you for your comments. I don't have the option for mobile data on my power menu but i installed market enabler and got "Extended Controls"-widget from Market for 0,79€. Now i'm very happy with it
apndroid
apndroid.....
apndroiad as above or swithpro which is a paid app but its great.
Hi all,
Can't get any widgets that I've found to toggle mobile data. Tried Widgetsoid, Beautiful Widgets, Extended controls...nothing works. Anybody else have luck?

I use the Airplane mode toggle from Widgetsoid. I can still toggle RF On/OFF and mobile data stays off....
Oh. Ha. Good point...no phone features...duh.
Is there a shortcut or widget to simply turn off/on the data roaming option?
It would be so much easier than going through home/ settings/wireless & network/ mobile networks
thank you
I use widgetsoid 2x.There is a option to add shortcut for system activities.
Also you can download a handy little app called 'Anycut' from the market which lets you create a shortcut to more or less any function. I use it for turning ON/OFF background data.

i have try widgetsoid x2 but system activities is limit, i don't see data-roaming only , there are network ,2g/3g , however can you explain me how?
I have also Anycut, ilt should be but with 2 actions , when i run shortcuts and i must enable the ratio . what's the name system activies for this?
Thank you
use the 2g 3g toggle from CurveFish. its very simple and neat app.
when you open the widget, u will be taken to mobile network settings page, when you can turn on/off the data roaming.
How do a widget what will be enable and disable tasker? Or how with widget to enable or disable profile what i have in tasker?
I'm searching the same question. If I find anything, I'll report back.
To disable, sure. But if it's disabled of course, any widget created to enable it would never run....Because Tasker is disabled.

Just an idea:
Theoretically you can enable Tasker by:
- automatic tapping: record the keystrokes/taps and than have it done for you when you use the widget.
- or by first killing Tasker to disable it, than when you need, run Tasker again.
For that to work, you can use Tasker to create an app with a widget, this way that function does not depend on Tasker running or not.
I do hope that with coming updates, there will eventually be a way to do this officially from Tasker.

Create a new task (not profile) and set a variable to 1 for on and 0 for off. Use a variable name that makes sense. Add a condition to the profile that requires the new variable to be set to 1. Assign an icon to the task (button in bottom right corner of task window) and then go to the home screen and add a new widget. Scroll down to tasker in the widget list and point it to your new task. The task simply changes the variable to its opposite value when it runs. You can also set the name of the widget and change the on screen icons with tasker actions.
