[Q] Replacing GT540 Camera with KF750 (LG Secret) camera? - GT540 Optimus Android Development

Hi,
Has anyone tried replacing a GT540 Camera with KF750's camera?
I disassembled GT540 yesterday to each part and figured that the number of pins for the camera is exactly the same as KF750's (5MP with high quality.... compared to GT540) even though I haven't checked the pin arrangements I am assuming they are the same. (I am assuming because camera from KP500 [cooky] has different pin numbers )
the size of the camera is little bigger than GT540's camera so it wouldn't fit in the board but I can probably mod the camera holder on the board and resize it as there are free spaces!!
has anyone tried this before?

Ok, Found that the pin arrangements are similar.
except.
Pin[5],[6],[15],[16] are used as data as well in addition to what GT540's 3MP camera is using.
and voltage in [34] = 2.8v [32] = 1.8v and where GT540's [34] is 2.7v, [32] = 1.2v
therefore, my confidence is reducing now.. if I am confident that replacing the camera would not break the board in GT540, I will try to replace it even it breaks the camera on KF750.
will do more research..

what about the software to use the 2 extra mp's?

Wheres the drivers?
Is the LG Secret an Android phone?
I think at the end of this you are going to have a trashed phone.

dont get me wrong, the research to get the pin outs and the voltages is good.
but like flyboyovick says, unless you got software for the right platform its not gonna work, and this is assuming the camera is an integrated device. are you sure none of the processing would be done by the main mobo of the phone, cos this would be device specific so changing camera hardware isnt gonna work cos f device id's (unless you wanna try and change the id in the firmware)
altough
if you know an experienced techhead with fine sodlering skills, some bloody good software skills to compile a driver for the camera hardware and a way to get it on the device. then you might be in with a chance
or
just get a 5mp android phone and save yourself a few weeks of time, head aches, solder burns and 2 dead phones.
good luck dude

"Anything is possible."....
... but I'm guessing it would be a lot more trouble than it would be worth. You'd probably be better off selling your Nexus and buying an Incredible.
That said, let us know if you pull it off!
I am also interested in the matter, would be willing to spend some
money to change the sensors, so my nexus would be perfect
the sensors are on the screen or where?
The "sensors" are the screen itself. You can't change the sensors, you change the screen.
If it connects using the same bus - then all you need (in addition to physically changing it) is a new driver.
However, the Maxtouch sensor is produced by a different (competing) company.... could very well use a different bus and/or signalling standard.

Lens extends on camera activation and startup

anyone with this otherwise great device will be familiar that upon boot up and camera activation the lens automatically extends.
Sadly, in my case the lens has broken as a result of
1/apps that activate the camera programatically, pushing itsself out of its car cradle physically damaging the lens assembly
2/ Power on lens extension when held in hand like a phone, lens in palm of hand.
I emailed to samsung and suggested they use a proximity sensor ( very common on phones) mounted on the front of the device ( lens side) to check the path the lens will take during extension is clear, or possibly even using data from the focus beam. I suggested that If it cant extend safely then it should not, rather than risk damage to the motors inside the lens. Samsung could actually apply this to all their cameras.
I also suggested the default on power up should be to not activate the camera app, which extends the lens ( after all this is a hybrid device) it may be possible for devs to alter this behaviour ?
It also occurs to me that developers who make device specific apps for this device could win some serious respect if they used the accelerometer Z reading to ensure the camera wont activate when device is lens down/screen up avoiding the lens causing the phone to do pushups which also bends usb connectors.
I know this belongs in the development forums for this device but I can't access them due to having less that 10 posts. Hope someone can add it for me Many apps can activate the camera programatically, it's worthy of consideration as a lens fix costs $200.00 and is not covered by wararanty.
Better yet, if someone could discover a way to make it NOT startup in the camera app. Then the lens would only come out when I actually run the app.
I admire your enthusiasm for making these suggestions to Samsung but they will fall on deaf ears. The simple and certainly quickest solution is put an extra option in settings "Toggle camera on startup ON/OFF"
Done.
it gets worse
yep, that would solve the startup issue but any app can activate the camera programatically, meaning they can start the camera according to any variable, time, location, force etc.
Initial quote to repair was 150.00, but It also now appears the motherboard is damaged, since it is behind the lens, so now the cost to fix is $450.00, just a few dollars short of its replacement cost.
This device can damage its self without you having to touch it.
Pretty serious problem
That's a bit odd. The same thing happened to me more than once but there seems to be some sort of protection against damage as the lens of my camera goes back in after hitting an obstacle (they only need to monitor the current drawn by the zoom motor).

Interesting, I'm sure that mine does not do that, the motor seems quite strong and pushed as hard as it can, perhaps they rectified it in later versions, I bought mine Christmas 2012 which I assume was the first "model " as such. I get the lens error, but it stays out, only returning when you power it off. funnily enough I'm pretty careful where and how i leave it positioned

Camera Tune (changing hardware)

I have a hard bricked (unfortunately) Xperia S which - everybody knows - has much better camera than our SP. And its not only resolution, but also quality.
I was wonder If I can change these two (of course when its similar tape to connect cameras, dont know yet how it looks in S)
Suppose, however that I can it connect without problems.
Dont know how much these two Qualcomms are different, so question is - if S's camera will work with Xperia SP's camera drivers. If I can get new, higher resolutions without changing system files, or I will have to change some files system files, in this case an which files I have to focus on.

Rear camera-hardware detected, yet black image. Camera "bus" malfunctioning?

Rear camera-hardware detected, yet black image. Camera "bus" malfunctioning?
Hi
Half a year ago my girlfriend accidentally gave my Z3 Compact a rollercoaster ride in our washing machine (full tour). The screen broke, but it could turn on and everything looked fine (gave no errors) when connecting to HDMI.
Yesterday I received a replacement LCD, which gave it a new life. It seems that everything works except for the rear camera. When opening any camera-app, the HUD is visible, but image is black, and no error. If i switch to front camera, which works, and back to the rear camera, it shows a freezed image of the last image from the front camera.
I checked some debug-apps to see if it detects the camera-module, and it does. If it's connected, alle the specs of the camera is listed, and if disconnected, the module is not listed.
I then got a broken Z3 Compact from a friend, and I tested both rear camera modules in both phones. The modules are working in his phone, both doing the same black screen in mine.
I tried hard reset, PC Companion-repair, updates, clearing camera cache etc., but with no luck.
Do you have any suggestion to how I can fix this?
Do you know where on the motherboard I could look for dirt in relation to some "rear camera bus/chip"?
Thank you for any help!
Edit: And isn't it amazing that this phone works to this extend after 2½ hours in 60 degrees celcius (140 fahrenheit) warm water with soap and 1400rpm? Wow! (Btw., all panels were open, and screen totally broken, so water must have been everywhere in the phone.)
I have a similar issue on my partners z3c after the screen cracked, I have replaced the screen and it works great however the camera shows a black screen. I know the camera module is working as I have tried it in another phone. Having searched for this issue I seen it has effected quite a few others not only those who have opened their phone.
what software you used to debug so I can verify that the phone can also see the camera module
This is happening to me too a year down the line of ownership.
Replaced with new camera from eBay still black screen. Between your experience and mine of both testing the camera we've prices it's not the lens, so what could it be.
Need to fix don't know what to do
The camera module itself may work but the chip which handles the rear camera may be damaged even if the phone works pretty good.
So if the chip or anything else related to the camera is dead, you can even try thousands of camera modules from different phones on YOUR phone, none of them will work.
That's my opinion - guy's who work in electronical industry for 3,5 years now and have seen hunderds of differend kinds of damages on different stuff.
I see what you are saying however it would be nice to have an idea of where any chip/bus is that may be damaged to see if it xan be fixed or is replaceable.

Yes, you are 100% right but there's another thing.
In the present times, in a rush of miniaturization, there's a little chance of such reapair to be profitable. The chip/bus may be damaged but in fact not only one thing may be dead... I'm talking about tiny little resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors (if there are any on the motherboard...) which are many. I'm not saying it won't be possible to repair the phone but without a proper diagnosis what is damaged... I'd be like looking for a needle in a haysack and everyone can tell you that only replacing the whole motherboard will be worth the time.
But still... this is an interesting case of malfunction... I hope you'll find a solution for this or at least someone else will do it for you for a reasonable price.

Mi A2 changed camera module - Camera error, cannot connect to camera

Hey
So I had problems with my camera not focusing when trying to take pictures from very close distances (small figures within 10-15 cms), it was all blurry - I tried different options and decided that software changes didn't help the problem so I ordered a new camera module and changed the part. I read that dropping the phone might lead to the lenses getting somehow disoriented and there's only solution to change the module..
Now after replacing the old module the camera app can use the front camera but when I swap to the primary back camera an error occurs and it claims it can't connect to the camera and the camera closes. Is this new module that should be for A2/X6 somehow still somehow incompatible or do you guys have any idea what might the problem?
I've tried to clear the data from the camera, I've reset the factory settings - no help.

Well IMHO, this kind of thing is better leave it to the authorized people @ expert.. I mean you sent it to service center or phone shop and let they do the replacement.. Me itself have experience of dropping my A2 from second floor and screen is badly shattered.. Although I know how to replace it but I won't do that.. I ordered the replacement parts and then sent it to the shop and let them do it.. I just pay for labor cost..
