Need some help trying to figure out how to make my Captivate turn on...I press power and get the AT&T slash screen and then the galaxy s logo loads for about 3 minutes and goes to blank dark screen with the capacitive buttons lit. this is not good because my **** won't boot into recovery either
You should flash to stock then...pull battery, hold volume buttons and plug in usb with odin loaded and ready on the computer. There's plenty of threads to help you out
Sent from my phone so excuse the spelling errors
Funnily enough... My phone just did that too. I was installing Mort Widget and it just totally bricked...
I'm rather p!ssed at this...
Course this was after it deleted all my email accounts and SMS.
What you'll need.
Odin (search or look in any of the ROM/Firmware threads, for example the i9000 ROM or unofficial JH2 or JH3 ROM)
Your USB cable.
The firmware files.
Steps:
Remove battery, SIM card and micro SD card.
Open Odin on the computer.
Put the battery back in.
Plug in the USB cable to the phone.
Hold both volume up and down.
With VOL up/down held in, plug usb cable to the computer.
Your phone will show the beloved DOWNLOADING yellow image.
Odin:
Simply select the rom/firmware you want to flash to and enjoy.
I can confirm this will not overwrite the phone's internal 16gb storage, which is where most apps save backups to.
Future steps:
Before trying anything crazy, copy the entire phone internal 16gb storage to your computer. If you brick, you can always get a new captivate, copy the junk back and run a restore.
I recommend Titanium backup (donate the $6, the backup/restore is SUPER SUPER fast) along with Clockwork recovery. Clockwork's Nandroid makes full kernel backups and you can boot to recovery from the phone itself. No more adb reboot download or adb reboot recovery.
sorry for my english i have a 19000m the one from bell my phone boot with the GALAXY S LOGO WITH THE MUSIC BUT AFTER THAT BLACK SCREEN CAN I REPAIR THAT ?
Yes, odin is about your only hope here... Even if you boot into the bios and try to do a factory reset it will come up with error after error...
Reflashing will totally wipe and start fresh.
I am curious however. I think i isolated where my problem came from but I am still curious...
Did you try to sideload anything?
It happened to me twice with Bell's Vibrant version. The first time, just after one week after getting it (not rooted). They simply gave me a brand new one.
The second one took 3 week to go dead. Knowing my way around Linux Embedded systems, this time I investigated the issue. In recovery mode, there were error messages saying that the system could not fine the internal flash memory partitions. I could confirm from the kernel messages that partitions on internal sdcard had disappeared. I did factory reset, reflash original stock firmware with Odin, but it did nothing.
I Sent the phone back for repair and three weeks later, they gave me another one (probably refurbished!!).
My phone just turns on, with a black screen and the capacitive buttons lit up. Nothing else happens. When I try to go into download mode, it only goes back to this black screen. I does however detect that the phone is connected driver wise on the computer, but does not show up in Hemidall or Odin. I've tried just about everything
i used ODIN to resotore the phont to stock

Does it light up or display anything and then go black, or does it just do nothing? If it does nothing, you're probably bricked, but try this anyway just in case your phone still has some life in it:
open Odin; press and hold both volume buttons and plug in your USB. If Odin lights up yellow, flash.
If that doesn't work, buy or build a jig, use it, and see if it goes into download mode. If it doesn't, plug the cable in anyway and see if Odin recognizes it. If it does, flash.
If that doesn't work, you're probably bricked. JTAG or Unbrickable Mod are your options from here, neither of which I personally know anything about but you can search around and find someone who can help you.
Hard Bricked= No signs of life, black screen no matter what, no response to USB plug in. Nothing but Unbrickable mod or JTAG will fix, I WOULD SUGGEST getting Unbrickable because you only have to get it once, and it cost the same as JTAG.
Soft Bricked= DL mode access is available(by jig or button combo and usb), recovery too, has some life in it. Can use ODIN/HEIMDALL to fix it.
when the flashing finsh and say done...and show the green light in the ODIN. the phone did not start up
dose this mean it break or dead charger?
as m not shure if the battery is full or not.
anyway i can pass the battery by over it with cuted USB cable?

If you got a green light, I would think it should at least turn on. However, if it was a successful flash, it should charge with the phone off. A bricked phone and a bad charger would both look the same: dead.
Try a different charger or battery if you think your battery could that dead. However if your battery died during your flash, that could also be the cause of your brick.
i charge the battery...and nothing happend
will the USB JAG solve it?
as i read in some post this will not
i need to send to some one to do it by opeing the phont it self

A jig is worth trying, but I suspect it will not solve your issue. You are correct, you need to send it to someone to have it fixed. Send a PM to AdamOutler or Connexion2005 and they can point you in the right direction.

You moto defy never flashed boot loaders since Motorola always had them locked down, and if you didn't know what you were doing flashing the stock Emma's that had boot loaders then it is not the phones fault. You should never really have to flash boot loaders and that is the ONLY risky part in flashing on these phones. Other than that Samsung cappys are almost TRUELY unbrickable (HARD BRICK) unless you mess up flashing boot loaders. WHICH YOU DID WHETHER YOU KNEW IT OR NOT BY FLASHING THE STOCK ODIN. SEND IT FOR UNBRICKABLE MOD, it is cheap repair and you WONT run into your same mistake ever again.

Hi all,
Im facing a serious problem. Well not so serious that my phone doesnt work but its pretty bad.
I have an international i9000 which i purchased in the UAE. I accidently flashed the stupid AT&T Captivate ROM without checking up on it and it got stuck on the AT&T loop. I managed to get into download mode via the USB Jig (thanks guys for that you saved my ass with that jig) but now everytime i turn the phone on i get random pixels covering the screen like an old broken television before the samsung logo. after that it boots normally.
also, before i was able to access the download mode via the 3 button combo and the upgrade mode in the same way. since i screwed up with the at&t rom it doesnt work anymore.
is there any way i can fix these two things? bare in mind i have reinstalled many roms wiped all caches and sd cards and i am now running darkys rom with these problems still existing.
Please help!!
oh another symptom ive noticed
when i plug the charger cable in or the usb data cable in when the phone is off i dont get a battery sign for when the phone is charging!
anyone out there that faces the same problem?
any help please? im desperate its driving me crazy ><
its ok everyone!
and heres how to fix it!
flash it to 2.1 from the XWJG5 with all three parts in the rom (its on samfirmware)
and make sure in Odin you click
clear phone efs
and
update phone bootloader
and next thing you know ure three button combo is working ure funny colours are gone and you have the battery charging logo again! woooo!
Hi guys,
I have a problem.. my phone won't connect on the computer or with charger.
If i restart it, it just displays the battery and the spinner for a few seconds and then the screen goes black again and the process repeats over and over. I'm able though to get in download mode and flush successfully a stock firmware with odin.
As long as i keep it plugged on the computer it can connect with kies and recharge, once i unplug it won't connect again..
Can anybody help?
Thanks in advance.
well the fact that you can flash thru odin and connect with kies ect suggests its not a hardware fault...
perhaps you could try a (stock) firmware that contains all 3 files. and maybe flash it using pit and repartition... sounds like some sort of bug in the rom, confusing the phone when connected..........
just to make sure.. you have the latest drivers installed right ??
I've flushed JPO stock firmware, everything now works fine but it won't boot unless i connect it to the charger. It shows empty battery..
very strange..... are you running CWM if so boot into recovery and wipe battery stats.. then try charging the phone for a bit whilst it is switched off...
if it still fails to work properly then i must be wrong and it could be some sort of hardware fault... only samsung can repair that (unless you have insurance for a straight swap)
I wiped the battery stats but with no luck.. it didn't work.. I don't have insurance.. anyway, thanks for your help.
All i can say is that i have seen similar problems posted .Phone not working unless charger plugged in almost as if phone has lost the battery .
Dont know if problem was solved but a thought would be bad battery connections .
jje
My phone was acting up so I restarted the phone and it gets to the samsung galaxy I9000 screen an shuts off. When I connect it to my PC or a wall outlet via usb cord, the battery charge screen comes on for a sec and goes blank and back and so on.....it wont charge. I tried the hard restart and it doesnt work and when I try the download mode it goes to a yellow screen with a triangle. It says downloading....
Not sure if thats working properly.
Is this a problem where I can flash my phone and fix this.
Because sending my phone off to a center would take forever.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Well first of all your download mode is working fine. For your problem i have few questions: does your pc recognize your phone and can you charge it. Have you bought it with that problem or it has suddenly happened? I think that this is a hardware problem but we should wait for other opinion

If your phone was hacked before (rooted, flashed new firmware), you should reflash it with a clean firmware (or ask someone who has experience). If not, that might be a virus which rooted and damaged your software. There were some of these in the market. This could also be repaired by flashing. But you'll lose your warranty.
You have a "boot-loop". Your download mode is working. So you can flash stock firmware. Find your country specific firmware and use ODIN! But please read up on which version of stock you have to flash.
Hi all,
Tried returning to stock 2.1 using Odin v1.0 One-click. I had Perception II Beta 3 installed (based on JVB). Every time I try to flash it, Odin freezes on factoryfs.rfs and the phone's screen goes completely red (though one time it went pink).
Any ideas? Am I using the wrong Odin? Am I screwed?
Thanks,
thecoolestcow
Whew, got it. I re-downloaded Odin, still no luck. Then I tried a different USB cable and it worked! Hooray!
As a note, I was getting a variety of different colors, and I had to get into Download mode accordingly:
Remove battery, sim, external SD
Open ODIN
Plug in USB
Hold down volume up + volume down while inserting the battery
Keep trying to flash if you get the same problem I had!
Are you using 2.1 with the three button fix baked on? That one will not work.
Need to flash using original 2.1 which will give you the correct boot loaders.
Only thing I could think of.
If he was using the 3 button fix it would be a brick. No colored screens of any type nothing. Dead. Gone.
Thee problem was a bad connection like he said, swapping cables and/or ports usually solves those issues unless the usb port on the phone is bad.
thanks guys. my power went out while going to stock from 2.3.3, it wouldn't even turn on.
