I'm running Darky's v.8.0 and I'm looking to install a different theme; however I can't seem to run the update.zip via Clockwork. I've searched high and low and can't seem to find a proper tutorial on installing themes safely.
I know you can use Root Explorer to copy files to the system\app folder however which files do I copy?
Any help would be appreciated.
Anyone? Please?
not sure what you mean? get the theme zip you want, if your downloading it on your phone then it will be in your downloads on your sd. if your doing it from your pc then copy it over to your sd on your phone. then go into recovery mode. click install zip from sd then go to wereva you got it saved then click on it and instal
oh yh and darky has a website now mate so check that out. has loads of info http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php

I keep getting errors when I try that. I'm looking for a guide to use root explorer
if you use root explorer you will have to change loads of different files. if your getting a error it is probably cause the theme isnt made for your phone? what theme is it?

anyone know where I can download this app, i found it on the Androbin_R_ ROM.
Have you tried taking it from the ROM itself? Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
Just checked market, there is one called Custom Car Home,... any good?
Apparently Froyo has it built in,... try extarcting it from a Froyo ROM aswel,... Worth trying enit?

Thanks for taking the time to reply...
it is, but I am just not technically able enough to take it from the ROM,, i would not know where to start.....
Download the Rom you want.
Extract it on pc.
Navigate to system/app/
Copy the apk you want to your sdcard. I think it could be called carhome.apk.
Having the apk on your SD.
Open it with e.g. Linda file manager.
If it works with this Rom it installs fine.
Another way is using adb.
But that doesn't differ in what you get.

What does it say when you try,... Give error details, someone might be able to help you,... I haven't had much luck in the past to be honest.
I installed Metamorph to install Darknessv2.5 theme. But whenever i run it I get an error saying "Some Files could not be extracted and set up. Please make sure you have enough free space in /system.". Attached is a screenshot.
I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could help me with this one.
Dumb question I know but are you using the cwm flashable darkness file?
Other than that try uninstalling and reinstalling metamorph. It normally does give errors but only the first time you run the app in ntt experience

Just tried and nope, same error again.
Thanks anyway tho.
Most of the time its duet o MetaMorph not extracting the zip correctly. Easiest way to fix it is you will have a folder called Android Themes under your SDCard.
Just unzip the MetaMorph on your desktop and copy the <theme name> Folder into that one on your SDCard and the error should go away.
What do you mean with "unzip the MetaMorph"? I made a folder called "Android Themes" on my sdcard and moved the theme zip in there. Still doesn't works, it's giving me the same error and I have like a 100MB free on /system.
I think he is saying to extract the fileon your computer and then move it to the themes folder on your phone
Well, the thing is Metamorph won't even run. It gives me the error when it does the initial check.
What rom are you running? I have not had any trouble with metamorph aside from the normal first install errors...always works fine the second time it is opened except for one rom I was using a while ago that also had other issues.
Yup never had an issue using MetaMorph on any ROM I've had.
And I had requested that you take the metamorph.zip (the theme) and unzip it then copy it to your SDCard.
But if it is failing right when you start the application.
Try re-installing the app.
Or go to the Metamorph form on XDA here and do some research.
Im running Cog2.3b8 (it's on my sig). And yeah I already tried reinstalling.
Anyways, thanks for the help.
Yea.. I would def go to their post and see if you can get any better luck there.
I have read a few posts about the error your getting but dunno if there is a resolution yet.

Hello everyone!
I don't have access to a PC and won't have it in a while, so I was wondering if someone could be so kind and make a CWM flashable .zip of the tw Music Player since the latest Assonance ROM didn't come with it. Preferably one that works with froyo. Thanks in advance!!!!!

You don't need access to a pc. Download a rom that has it. Use a file manager to extract the rom to your sd card and move it to system/app.
This is my Captivate. There are many like it but this one is mine.

Thanks for this. I forgot to mention that I had tried it numerous times with no success and although the one you just posted does appear in my app drawer, it force closes as soon as I open it. I really don't wanna change my rom but I will have to if I can't get this player to work. Is there any permissions that I would have to modify? Thanks again.
I don't if it's permissions or if it requires something else? I guess you could always change the permission on it to 777 and see if that works. If not I don't really know.
I actually found a flashable .zip in the fascinate forum and it works except it force closes when you switch to disc mode and when u use the controls from the notification bar.

Don't appologize for asking questions-we all need answers to one thing or another
The first thing you want to do is go to the android market and search for Rom Manager. You already have this installed if you are running CM7, but you need to update it to the newest version.
Then, Just open your app drawer and open up Rom Manager. When it opens, the very top line says "Flash Clockwork Mod Recovery". Tap on that, choose Nook Color, and it will update to the newest version 3.2.0.1.
Hope this Helps!
What's the best way to update recovery on sdcard? Mod manager only updates the internal flash..

I downloaded an updated version located HERE and extracted the files and attached them for you. Just download and unzip the files to your current CWM SD card.

Ok, thanks! So you can indeed copy the files as-is.. with Paleolithic dos 3.2 origin, I tend to expect you need to use special app to copy the system files. In any case, I've installed the boot menu on SD card so by defaults I boot internal flash. No need to lose sanity removing the easy-to-lose usd card.. I can also start the recovery from internal flash..

Yes, I have updated a couple times by just transferring the updated files onto my bootable CWM card. I have done a number of back-ups and restores without a problem. The files are self-contained file systems, so not much damage from a simple transferring of them. If you want to install a special app for windows to be able to update the SD card in the future, then I would download this very handy tool, ImDisk, it will allow windows to mount the updated img file and extract the files from it.
Hi
First post here, I'm new to Android and rooting but I know my way around computer systems in general so hoping you guys can help me, haven't seen a thread about this exact problem so far.
I've semi-bricked (bootlooped) my Samsung Galaxy Ace running Gingerbread, having rooted it last month using the upd_1 package and enjoying a bloatware-free phone, happily installing apps onto my second partition on my SD card. I've not changed my ROM, just the stock is good enough for me for now. However I was getting continually prompted by Homescreen Selector nags at powering up for some reason and I thought I could disable it by applying Freeze using LInk2SD, but since doing that I continually get the Samsung logo, the orange "explosion" (I'm with Orange) then a vibration and the whole cycle repeats. My guess is the operating system can't find the selector.apk app since I froze it.
I thought the solution would be simple - use adb shell to rename back from selector.fro to selector.apk. However I'm unable to find any such file in my system/app folder. There are a load of other apk and odex files but not that one. When I type su I get "permission denied", though I definitely rooted my phone but I don't think I have my bootloader unlocked.
I don't have CWM installed or any backups unfortunately (yes, I know...), so even if I took one now prior to a factory reset, surely the same problem would come back if I were to restore from any backup I were to take now. I can get into Recovery and Download screens ok but don't want to restore the whole ROM unless I have to, since I know it's only one APK that is at fault.
So, please can anyone tell me how to locate the selector.fro file to turn it back to selector.apk? Or can't I do that without unlocking the bootloader first, or is there another solution?
Many thanks in advance,
Graham
Wouldnt it be possible to make a zip of the selector.apk and flash it? Rename the zip-file to "update" (since you're unable to browse to your specific file).

Hi, thanks for the response
Do you mean copy a zip of selector.apk to the SD card and run it from there, same as I did when I rooted? Where can I obtain a copy of that apk from? I can't find it on my computer or via Google...

You can extract it from the ROM's zip file, just locate it as you would on your phone.
But I don't have a ROM zip file. I'm not using a custom ROM, just stock. I may go down the custom ROM route one day, but for now I just want my phone to work again in the quickest way possible.
All I need is a copy of the original stock home selector APK. Can anyone help here please?
Found the file!
Never mind, got the apk from another thread. Flashing tonight...
