Whenever I try to sign in to the Epocrates app, I just get a notification that my login/password is incorrect. I've double-checked my info and know I'm using the right credentials, and I have the app running fine on my Evo.
Has anybody else had any luck with Epocrates on their rooted NookColor?
Just checked mine -- it doesn't work on the NC either. Works fine still on my Evo.
It didn't work for me either, until I switched to Nookie Froyo, now works perfect.
Bummer, but at least it's not just me I guess. I think I'll wait for a slightly more developed version of Nookie Froyo before trying it, but it's good to know it can work!

If you have another android phone I have a solution for you (worked for me with my rooted droid (cyanogen) + rooted NC (autonooter).
Install epocrates on another phone (not NC).
Back up the install with titanium backup.
Copy the backup to NC.
Apply the backup to NC.
When you run epocrates it should start downloading the clinical content.
Check to see if epocrates recognizes the clinical content. I had to uninstall / reinstall epocrates and follow the above directions a second time to get it to work.

Above does not work - tried to install the .apk from Samsung epic and no go. Need froyo (won't work on rooted Eclair nook)
Been running the full Epocrates on my NC with both Froyo and CM7 on eMMC without issue. Updates just fine. Had to reinstall credentials when I wiped to install CM7 V6 (from TI - app+data) but has been flawless since! Dead useful in daily practice. Love it. Along with MedPage.
Just use Medscape (WebMD) or Skyscape

Alright, you all are amazing. I have a nootered nookcolor running launcherpro, and all of your help has been so appreciated. I am now at a wall. I did not use super or autonooter so I am comfortable in terminal. I have a few apps I bought and want to install to my nook.
I used titanium backup, and no matter what I do, it seems I need market to get them to work properly on my Nook.
I have tried:
adb (and throwing them into the system/app folder)
titanium backup (I installed SU titanium and busybox)
and root explorer.
The apps are...
Docs to go (full version key) says key is outdated
Gottodo (says it is not licensed)
sketchbook mobile (please ensure you are connected to a network and try again:Error code:UNKOWN) I am.
I am trying to keep my install as lightweight as possible so I avoided autonooter, but I may have to actually install the market. Arggghh
So, after all this help, does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.

If you follow the threads, you'll be able to get market running, etc (try supernooter) once thats done u can reinstall your purchased apps.
The problem is your not enabled correctly for market. Look for an app called MarketAccess. It'll fix your market and you can just downlaad your purchased apps.
Magically transmitted across the interwebs by my kickass NookColor!
can someone tell me/link me to everything i need to know about rooting the NC for before/during/and after the process...like best rooting process, does rooting it automatically install clockwork recovery/backup?, best rom, best kernal, etc. what ever else i need on it
Here are my notes as I go. Maybe helpful, maybe not.
Register your NC once you unbox it with B&N.
For whatever reason, the NC seems to have issues with WEP wifi (use WPA or greater)
Update your Nook Color to the latest rev:
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/nookcolor-support-software-update/379002520/?cds2Pid=35607
(1.0.1)
You need to root the NC (nook color) before you do anything.
http://nookdevs.com/NookColor_Rooting#How_To_Do_It
(you have 1.0.1 if you updated)
Once done, to get Market running. You have to follow the instructions on: signing into Youtube, Gmail, GTalk, etc. Then things start working. When you install an app from the market, it seems you have to reboot the device to see the new app.. strange. but fine.
APPs to get:
- ROM Manager (for backup snapshots of your setup- and give you clockwork recovery)
- Facebook
- Twidroyd (twitter)
- Google Voice (for texting)
- Advance Tast Killer (kill running tasks - keep things smooth)
- Astro (file manager, may want that later)
- Angry Birds (7in is perfect for this game!)
- Zeam (much better interface - put apps on home screen)
Now there are two ways to run all the android stuff, games, apps, Market etc.
You can just boot in the default NC interface and all your apps goodness will be under Extras.
OR
You can boot from an IMAGE of Froyo 2.2 SD card and run that. Once you remove it and boot.. your back in the stock NC interface.
I choose to go with booting from the SD card and run full android.
I did spend a lot of time getting the NC boot setup the way I like all my apps : Google Voice, games, twitter, Gmail, contacts, Facebook.. etc. Works fine. I just dont' want to see the NC interface.
If you do use the NC interface and want your contacts to show up when you type an email for instance, this tutorial was easy:
http://nookdevs.com/NookColor_Making_contacts_work
Today I'm working on a custom boot image that will overclock to 1.1Ghz.
and gettings my image all setup the way I like it. Then use Clockwork Recovery / rom manager (from market) to backup images to SD. Also great for imaging on the fly when new images are available. Great app.
All great instructions:
http://nookdevs.com/Portal:NookColor
If all goes to hell, you can fully restore to "new in box with 1.0.1" here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931720
----------
I'm now using the Nook normal boot with the Zeam interface and the 1.1Ghz kernel. You can just put the 1100mhz kernel onto the SD card, go into ROM manager and boot into recovery. Then tell the recovery to install a zip from the SD card. Here is the link for 1100mhz kernel (kernel-1100mhz-omap3630.zip)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925451
Can you overclock using the first option? And which do you thunk is the best way of rooting
Yeah I just did. I'm on 1.1Ghz with using 1.0.1 firmware on the nook side of things. With the Zeam thing and all.. i don't see the point of running a full Froyo boot from the SD card. really..
I was also curious about rooting a nook. I don't have one yet; however, all this expanded capability from rooting has me excited at the potential. I notice in the rooting instructions it says "Tap the white Nav Arrow > settings > Wireless & verify that you are connected to WiFi". I am a student at Ohio State and the university uses enterprise wifi that requires a username and password to access. Do I actually have to be connected to the wifi to complete the rooting and installation of apps or is that step just to confirm the wifi works? How would I go about signing in to wifi to complete rooting?
It will still be rooted, but as far as i know the Market and Google apps (gaaps) wont work until you get her online. Just either setup a tether from your phone or wait for market and google apps when you can.
why cant i change the launcher pro shortcuts in the dock? why are my icons on my screen so small and my wallpapers come out so big? how can i get applanet on here? does this have gps on it?
how do you add books?
I restored to stock and update my nook color to 1.2.0. YAY flash works! This will properly root using nooter 0.2 This of course only enables adb so if you have to manually install all the programs you want. One downside if you like the stock launcher(user interface) is the installed programs do not show in the new 'apps' menu. Also, make sure you install nook color tools from the auto-nooter. Debuging does not stay on after you reboot and the program will enable you to do so. Also, you will need another launcher such as ADW to access your programs.
I have a rooted Nook Color with stock 1.1 Rom and clockworkmod recovery installed.
Will the new update be pushed to me automatically, or do I have to manually install it.
If I have to do it manually do I do it per the instructions on B&N website or some other way using clockworkmod recover?
I believe you have to do it manually. I read that you can do it with CWR. The person who did it said it froze or something on the first boot but a reboot fixed it. Search '[ROM 1.2] nook color' on xda for instructions thread.
I was wondering, once auto-rooters are released, will you still be able to use the apps you got from B&N? There are one or two I'd buy, but want to make sure I can still root and use them. Thanks!

i'd assume they'd be tied into your b&n account - similar to your books - you can redownload any of your books that you purchased previously.
edit: btw, thanks OP for the heads up on nooter 0.2 - i'm back to where i was at with autonooter and root with 1.1 (minus gapps, which i haven't played with yet)... a lot more tedious doing things manually. running adw launcher pro as my launcher.
good job thx!!
cannot feel more wonderful.

Although the apps from the nook market seem to be modified to be recognized by the nook interface, I still have the library and shop apps in my zeam menu. I don't think there will be a problem using and apps from the nook market on any rooted nook.
@everyone
Amazon market works, but I had to install the angry birds apk using adb. I read there are problems installing apk's bigger than 4M. I suspect this may have something do to with that issue.
I don't have market working yet but it looks like someone did it with a specific market version and nookie-froyo-gapps. It also looks like auto-nooter will be out soon. I will be doing manual because I'm very anal about not having unnecessary software on my devices.
Edit: Market is working if but it appears large programs still do not install. Here is a guide:
download nookie-froyo-gapps-20110207.zip (use google) & unzip
download Vending.apk & Talk.apk from this post http:// forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051235&page=11
Code:
adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblock0p5 /system
adb push nookie-froyo-gapps-20110207/system/app/GoogleServicesFramework.apk /system/app
adb push nookie-froyo-gapps-20110207/system/etc/permissions/features.xml /system/etc/permissions
adb push Vending.apk /system/app
adb push Talk.apk /system/app
has the autonooter fpor 1.2 been released yet?
For now it's ManualNooter uses CWM.
Has some issues.

I can install gapps from the nookie froyo pack but calendar is not included. Even after setting up gmail, my calendars will not show. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Thanks GabrialDestruir! The trouble shooting list for showing how to get all of the Andriod market apps worked like a charm..however..cant get ANYTHING to download. Keeps saying download was unsuccessful. Im runnng the newest CWM with ManualNooter 3.0.2.8. Everything is working great now except for the downloading of market apps. Hope this was the right way to request any help. Im df a newbie at the posting game. Thanks
I have stock 2.2.2 WiFi that I have rooted with GingerBreak. When I search for items in the market it doesn't show them. If I search on the PC version of the market it shows them as incompatible with my device. However if I download the apk and install it works fine. For example Lookout incompatible, installed and working correctly. Is this an issue with my Streak, my market account or is it just tha the Streak can't run these apps?

The market checks for HW or SW compatibility. LookOut most likely can place phone calls and send SMS, neither of which the Streak can do.
But you're right, if you can otherwise get the apk they work fine.
The good news? Look forward to more of this in the future, the new market (the Windows Phone 7 looking crap) filters even more.
Thanks that explains a lot. Can I just copy the apk from by ZTE Blade or even Titanium Backup and install that. Also once it is installled does that mean it will never update either so each time I get an update on my phone I'll have to copy the apk over to the Streak.

Yeah, you should be able to sideload it, and yes, sideload updates. Very annoying.
Only thing Developers can do here is remove permissions to call number or SMS, maybe make them a "plugin" for their app..
What I don't get is some apps, like Android Agenda Widget. The free version shows in the market, but the Pro doesn't. No permissions differences between the two that I see! And it's only on my other tablet, Nook Color. DS7 it's fine. Go figure.
Still having problems. Having copied the apk over and installed it, it doesn't show up in My Apps on the store. If I use AppBrain it shows all the apps and that I have updates to do but as soon as I try to install the updates it goes to the market and they are not available. Current updates are Voice Search and Facebook.
Is there anything I can change on the Streak so that the market thinks it is a 3G streak so I can see all the other apps. Latest is I can't see any Gameloft games now. I tried upgrading to the new Market App but seemed to make no difference.
Googled it but there seems to be no way to reset my Market account without creating new logon and resetting phone which I would sooner not do but may be my only option.
transporting apps VIA Titaniumbackup

I have been able to transfer "unsupported device" apps from one device to another (true all my devices are Tegra2 devices).I went into titanium backup and backed up the app, then copied it over to an extenal SD card and copied it to another device (to the titanium backup folder in that device) then went into TB and did an app refresh then restored the app (ONLY - not the data) then cleared the cache and rebooted the device. So far each time I have done this it has worked without any trouble.
I have not tried to update any of these apps on the " unsupported devices" yet (current revision) so I don't know if it can be done or not (sure I will find out soon enough) its worth a try,but true if you have to do this all the time it would be a PITA.
So good luck
A first step is to check your market filter settings..often a simple solution...
In the ongoing battle to not have the market crash on launch (rooted stock 1.3 running 4.6.16 and I fixed permissions with ROM manager) I've noticed that titanium backup seems to be a start for a few potential fixes. That said - I have to actually install the bloody thing and w/out market access that's proving tough.
I d'loaded the apk via. the built-in browser. It's on my SD card. But I can't seem to find any way for the built-in app-laucher to....well, launch. When I run the apk's from the browser I get 2 options:
Complete action (running apk) using:
* App Installer (which when clicked says it's unable to install and that I should archive then unarchive the app and try again)
* Package installer (which says there's a prob. parsing the package).
I've got what I assume to be non-market app's checked off in NC Tools (it's the blank box in NC Tools with nothing next to it that people talk about).
Any suggestions to get the bloody apk working?
Sounds like a badly packaged .apk. It also has that error whenever I try to install Honeycomb specific apps.

Did you enable non-market installs?
Do as Dizzy said or find another apk to install, if it keep crashing then try install some another ROM like CM7.

In the NC tools I do have what is supposed to be the non-market installs checked off (but with it being a blank box of text next to it, I'm not positive).
I guess it might be a bad apk, but I got it from the TB site directly. I tried ES File Explorer too. It would seem all apk's I'ev tried give the same error. I'm not sure if maybe B&N somehow hobbled the ability to install apk's with their 1.3 update.

I had CM7 on for a few days, but with the market not working well on it (market determined that the nook wasn't compatible with any of the apps, even with the LCD resize), and with a subscription to PC mag via. B&N I went back to stock rooted 1.3.
Any other suggestions? I was thinknig of trying MIUI if things in CM7 or the Nootered stock don't resolve themselves.

MIUI is just a themed outdated cm7. I don't see how that would help.
Can you get any .apks to install?

I just finished the Android SDK/Java route to push apk's to the NC. I've successfully installed Titanium, ES File explorer, Opera Mobile and SwiFTP to my NC via the SDK route. While I don't have market access, I guess it will be ok for now....I sure wish the Market worked properly though....nice 'n convenient. Ah well.
[EDIT] One thing I did try to get the market to work was uninstall Flash 10.3. I put on 10.2 & reset permissions. No dice for what it's worth....if somebody's keeping a list of things that don't work.

Interestingly, if I try to use the default browser to install appbrain (www.appbrain.com/install), or even Opera mobile to install it, .... it results in a flash screen (rotating flash dots in the middle) that crashes after a second....just like when I (attempt to) launch the Market.
