ShellTool_bugfixed.zip is a Windows wrecker!

Hello there,
I wanted to use the ShellTool I found at the FTP. But, after executing the file, I get an error, followed by opening a profile from friendster.com . After that, my Symantec AV is trying to search for the installation files and other strange stuff. When I give the computer a reboot, my computer tells me that NTLDR is missing. So, this file is some kind of windows wrecker instead of a usefull tool.
Not only the NTLDR was missing, also HAL.dll, ntoskrnl.exe and other files.
I tested it also on a virtual machine with Windows XP SP2, and the same thing happened. Please remove that kind of crap.
Its in the directory: Uploads/WIZARD/Unlocking/

i have had no problems at all...on vista ultimate and windows xp on a virtual machine and i flash with this tool...it works like a charm on my side...a charmmmmmmmm

i had the same thing happen to me, I had to re-install windows on two different computers after it crashed the,, pretty weak, pretty weak

someone deleted the original file and changed to a wrecker one.. owner please check the file if its your original or altered one by someone..

I'm going to have to say that someone removed the original ShellTool file and replaced it with the current one.
I downloaded the original file and have used it without any problems to flash several devices. So, don't go blaming the developer of this tool. There have been SEVERAL corrupted/virus-laden files uploaded to that folder recently.
The general rule of thumb on downloading from the ftp is to wait until the files have been checked by the admins and mods and moved to the "safe haven" and to NOT download anything from the "Uploads" section. Downloading from the "Uploads" directory is done at YOUR OWN RISK. (There are SEVERAL threads on the forums about this.)
BTW -- if you had read the entire thread in the G4 forum about the ShellTool, you would have known ahead of time about the virus-infected file. That discussion start with post #285 in the thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293480&page=29

We seem to be plagued by virii at the moment. :-(
If you look in the G4 forum (as I remember it) and find the original thread for ShellTool you will see later on virus warnings and some MD5 checksums for the original.
I'm going to write a thread this weekend on MD5ing files you publish and how users verify them.

OK. I've just deleted the Shelltool_bufixed.zip and replaced with the uninfected Shelltool_bugfixed in a RAR archive. I know that since I haven't posted before, but believe me that there is no virus on this one. Atleast, not at the time of me uploading it. (Don't know what people will do with it later)

Unfortunately I read this thread too late... I had my NTDLR deleted by this proggy. Might be a virus, might not be one... What makes me suspect its not is that it bypassed my corporate AV.
I recovered from the "virus" almost instantly (I dont know if it was posted or not, but I think it wont hurt anyone to read this):
1- Run the WinXP SP2 (if u have SP2 already installed) and AFTER you get to the license agreement, select REPAIR.
2- Use the recovery console google it or go here =) http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm
So much for Norton Corporate AV with all the latest updates bells and whistles

There is nothing a AV can do (even the most powerful and expensive) to avoid infection by a 'cooked-in-5-minutes' malicious file.
In order to detect the file its signature/characteristics must be added to the scan engine and that will only happen after someone gets 'infected' and reports the fact
Anyone with a little skill can make an executable to delete system files and upload it to the ftp. That's why i prefer to post files in threads instead in ftp server; at least the previous can't be changed except by the poster or by mods/admins

I don't get it, why should you guys use ShellTools, when you can already CID Unlock your G4 using HardSPL ?! That way you can flash you wizard in about 6 minutes vs the 30 minutes on ShellTools!

Technical sense, it is not a virus. The person who made this is lame enough to just make a BAT-EXE conversion which, delete stuff from your WINDOWS directory only. So, most of your stuff are generally safe (that's the common one that I've know appearing randomly in the FTP).
I have problems unzipping the file anyway, so I cant confirm this. If you are sure it is a fault, just delete it. Thanks.

Sheeltools is safer for inexperienced. You can never brick the phone by it. You do not need to check the safety of ROM (since shelltool will never flash anything else than OS).
Faking unlocking the CID by SoftSPL/HardSPL is quicker, but it enables to flash IPL/SPL which is not a good idea (newbie eagerness or just a stupid oversight of somebody who flashes daily can lead to disaster).
There are cases of people who bricked their Wizards by using SoftSPL without reading properly (for example I remember one Polish guy not so long ago).
I use shelltools. It gives me peace of mind when flashing.
(Changing a genuine program for a malicous one can be done regardless of what program it is. So this has nothing to do with shelltools. Just be careful what you run on your computer).

TomTom Problems

Ive searched the forum for a couple of hours and i cant find a solution to my questions so i thought id create a new thread.
i have downloaded TomTom, i have the .cab file and the .exe file but neither seem to work.
when executing the .exe file i get to the window where it says 'modify, repair, delete' and then the programs closes. if i pick modify it asks me to do a soft reset, which i do and then nothing happens again after that.
when trying to install the .cab it says i need to update my rom version.
i have just flashed duttys 6.1 rom so wondering what could be the problem?
i have been trying to install tomtom for some time now and i would appreciate any help.

What .exe file r u talking about? You only need to copy the .cab file to your phone first, then run it from your phone. As for maps use tomtom HOME software...go to tomtom web site to get it..& install on your comp then use it to install the maps. There's a freebie small map to try though with tomtom if it's your first time using it.

The posted thread doesn't relate to the original problem. He can't install the tomtom software. Make sure you have version 6.032.8351 tomtom .cab
My tomtom works just fine.

as stated above my question is not answered, and yes i have searched for hours.
i have the 'Installer_Kaiser_ttn_6_032_8351_HTC_WWE_20070716' .exe file that someone posted on another thread somewhere on here but i cant seem to find it anymore...and i also have the 'ttn_6_032_8351_HTCWWE_Kaiser' .cab file...i know these are just two different types of installation, im just explaining that i have both, and im having trouble with both.
i know that you just put the .cab on the phone and it installs but i get the error message saying a rom needs to be updated.
and with the .exe file do i need to download anything extra before executing it from my pc?

OK let me clarify this. YOu have flashed dutty 6.1 ROM on your phone successfully correct? If so...
the posted .exe you don't need it..to install tomtom software
and the .cab file posted the name of it doesn't look right..

that link above is pretty interesting...never encountered that. Kill all apps that could be causing conflict. If that still doesn't work, try using another cab. I have WM 6.1 3.02 version and mine works totally fine.

Are you really asking how to install a CAB file????? No wonder no one wants to help you..............
First transfer the CAB file to your phone/storage card(remember where you put the file, you will need to know to locate it on the phone).
Go to Start, Programs, and File Explorer.....Navigate to the folder you put the CAB file into and OPEN it, once opened it will automatically start installing.
I am assuming based on your question that its probably gonna ask you if you really want to install because it might not be a trusted certificate just click YES
Now its going to ask you where to install to.....option 1 the DEVICE.........option 2...........Storage Card(if you don't have a storage card then obviously there will be no options and it will just install)
Last, If you can't perform any of the above steps PLEASE don't even try OR attempt anything on this forum. Thread should be closed.

[HELP] Dutty's 3.7 XT Weather modifying

Guys I have just modified the 2330..bla manila file following the guide in the Sticky. Everything is ok expect one thing, I did everything, added my city (Lugano, Switzerland). When i go to weather tab and i choose my city it says connection error, but every other city works great :S Can you please help me?

I'm having no luck either.
The instructions regarding SQLite don't work for me. Should point out you need to take off the Read Only flag else SQLite browser won't save your changes. The cities are added ok, and now selectable, but they do not update the weather. Keeps saying connection error (attempted many retries too), just for the custom ones. The default cities update fine.

Same, and yes I took off the Read Only flag. I'm having your same problem. Please guys help us :S

After you have edited your manila file and set everything up, remember to install Weather Database editor 1.2 and then run the program. After that everything should be working A big big big thanks to "spud_work" who gave me this tip

you can find about the weather connection etc. in many threads.
BTW there Allready is a DUTTY 3.7 Thread, so i think there is no reason to open a new thread !

hi all
i had the same problem with the weather using david uk rom the latest one.
This what i did and it worked for me
1. find HH_0409 weathercities_xml file in windows
its under HKEY_Current User\Software\Manilla.
2. Copy the file somewhere on desktop also make a backup of file incase need to replace it.
3. Open it with note pad and change a city which u are not likely to use, find the city code from Accu Weather website and replace all the code.
4. Save the file and copy it back to phone ( i put it in my documents folder) use total commander and replace the existing file.
5. Go in HTC Weather and add new location and file will be there for u to use. Worked for me so hopefully will work for u also.
Tried installing Weather Database but Touch Flo kept crashing tried loads of versions but same result so i tried this method and bingo it worked .

Hi all, i just wanna share how i am doing it.
1. Edit 2330dc3c_manila in the sql lite to edit your city
2. Copy the 2330dc3c_manila to storage card
3. use total commander / resco explorer copy 2330dc3c_manila file to /windows (OVERWRITE IT)
(if you update now, u will receive connection error)
4. install the weather master 1.3
5. run weather master once.
6. turn off the touch flo 3d
7. copy 2330dc3c_manila to windows/ (Do This AGAIN)
8. delete forecast_cache at Application Data\HTC\databases
9. turn on your tf3d
10. you now can update your city.
this way work for me.. CMIIW

Sometimes a search returns so many results it's all but impossible to find the answer, unless you've been lucky with your chosen search terms.
If you've found the answer, a better way to educate people in the ways of searching might be to tell them what search terms you used. A link to the answer that you found by searching will also be useful.
This is a huge forum, with hundreds of threads and many thousands of posts, and tracking down the few posts that might help with an issue can sometimes be very difficult.

This is my first cooked Rom based on Ruu_Photon_HTC_ITA_1.07.408.1_Radio_Signed_2010035_Ship, lightweight and fast, removing other unnecessary applications and increased memory, personalized homepage, calendar, fingerprints, lockscreen ........ .
Installation:
1) Unzip the file on your desktop and extract the folder Rom
2) Connect the phone to the PC with the USB cable.
3) Open the folder with the Rom and the right mouse button (run as administrator, Windows 7) DFT_SSPL_MINI.(If you do not see the USB device at the bottom of the screen and the RUU Showed a connection error, disconnect the device and connect it again ... Should be there now USB. then just run the SSPL_RUU.exe again, flashing will start now.).
4) Run step by step everything you say the program.

No there are no other additional applications, or just removed the other applications and unnecessary increase in memory but the Personalized Home, calendar, footprints, lockscreen .........

I just back from Droid after sometime and flash your rom in..its work fine and stable and battery consumption very less. i'm happy with it after i install my need (this is for waittin Droid to be fully work I may switch back again).
just one thing, as you mention that this is you kitchen, do you mind to share it here to let our little chef here able to do some work (incld me). thks in advance.

may be some mis understand, I mean your kitchen tools to cook the rom, not the ready cooked rom. BTW, thks for you quick respond.
