Ringer Volume - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way of changing the volume buttons so that it only changes the volume for media? Does any one else here find it annoying that the volume buttons are locked to ringer volume when on the homescreen?

Ah, but that requires rooting and flashing custom roms. I guess you can't do it natively then.

No.. It requires remapping of the volume keys! Can only be done with scrips or code and not from the phone itself

Quick Settings

I just download Quick Settings , it's free in the market and you can change all the sounds levels without being rooted.

power button options

is there a way to add options when we long press the power button? optionto not only shutdown the phone but also reboot.
The CyanogenMod (CM7) ROM, does this. If you can live with that ROM (or any ROM based on that), I can highly recommend this one from wgspoelstra.
does it have the 64RAM hack (freeing up an extra 64 mb ram)
Yes, CM7 uses the vorkKernel which has this hack.
thanks! i have the WGSPOELSTRA on my phone, working great, i am on v.26, i haven't updated to the latest because i'm seeinig some negative feedback on the release
It would be great to use the volume buttons to unlock the screen.
Anyone knows if it could be plausible?
i can't find it again...i knew i found an option that does that... now i'm not sure if it's in the slick custom roms or the WGSPOELSTRA's

Whilst it is possible with stock it's a lot of framework edits. I took a look and hacked together a reboot proof of concept... you have to call an existing function and LG have obfuscated this function in their framework...

WidgetLocker supports this.

Brilliant. I love LG 2X but the power button at the top and volume buttons on the right are a big fail in my opinion. I might be too use to the layout on SGS.
Having said that I don't mind if there is a workaround and this for me is perfect. Thanks.

handsfree's next/prev buttons work as volume - how to change this ?

The remote next/rev buttons control volume - pretty pointless, as the volume is accessible on the device.
how can I make those buttons do something useful, like prev/next ?

This feature is there in custom roms that are based on AOKP.

notification/ringer volume sync?

After the ICS update, when using the volume buttons to turn up/down the ring volume, the notifications volume doesn't change. before, there used to be an option to lock the two together but it looks like that option is gone now. does anyone have any solutions to this?
I'm in the same boat...this is a huge fail to me!

A possible work around in the short term would be to check out the app called widgetsoid. I use it for power toggles in the notification panel but it also has it's own volume slider option that lets you link the ringer and notification volumes like before.

[Q] Volume notifications = volume ringtone ?

Hello
I own a Galaxy S Advance GT-i9070 with 2.3.6 GB. Is there any chance to set volume notification TOGETHER with volume ringtone?
I mean, I push Volume Up/Down and volume notification sets with it.
It is a hassle to get to the settings and set volume for notifications everytime :/

Try searching for a widget that changes various types of volumes..

You helped me !! Thanks to Widgetsoid , I can put the widget about volumes, and there's an option that says "Use ringtone's volume for notifications".

Question How to put on to "silent" using the volume key?

From previous samsung phones, pressing the volume all the way down will turn into silent. Now i cant do it on my S21Ultra, i have to go the toggle buttons on top to keep it silent.
Anyway to use the volume keyagain?
Press volume button once which will bring volume, tap the three ... and you will be able to change volume there. That's besides the volume toggle in the quick toggles
**actually just playing around, if you go into settings>sounds and vibration>volume> and uncheck use volume keys for media, that will bring back using volume switch for silent, vibrate and etc

Welcome!
I use an app called sideActions. Some of the features are paid, but works pretty well. Allows you to bind actions to press of power button or volume buttons. I use power button long press to switch sound modes and short + long press for flashlight.
