i hate the screen orientation is froyo. i hate that it turns to both sides left and right. i like it better in the 2.1 roms with only rotates to the left. is there anyway i can fix this and stay in froyo??
HELP!
Can't please everyone....
You have to wait for the source to be out for this to happen.
what possible reason do you not like this extra orientation option? you can still simply rotate to the same direction that you like.
My guess is that it makes it more difficult to use the phone when lying down on the couch or in bed.
This actually is one of the things I'm looking forward to the most on FroYo. For whatever reason, I hate using the phone in landscape mode when it's turned to the left.
'ADW. Launcher' in the market lets the orientation go to landscape. I just installed it and I'm having a blast with it. Check it out.

I don't think this has anything to do with OP's issue.
And I'm going to agree with the OP - I don't really care for the full 270* rotation. Anytime that I want to use landscape, I'm going to want my right (dominant) hand to have easy access to the trackball. Also, as pfmiller mentioned, the 270* rotation makes it more awkward to use while in a reclined position. It definitely should be a setting configurable by the user, like in the CM 2.1 ROMs.
I love it with the 270degree Option.
I think you can disable it with spare parts, isn't it?
There are widgets on the market that can disable screen rotation easily.... but only works for some apps in 2.2. I just found out earlier today, FeedR keeps rotating even though I disabled rotate.
I agree with the OP. I would like the option to choose which autorotation method I want. I like to read in bed on my side and it is very uncomfortable with the new 270 degree system.

OP is not requiering to disable rotation, only 270deg rotation.
So that the left-rotation (landscape) will still work.
360 might also be good
try to mod something about that... but guess it's too dificult for me
Had never heard of this app until today and I love it... Thought I'd give it a mention.
It's a complete lockscreen replacement.
does it feel as smooth as the standard lock screen? or does it cause some lag?

I haven't noticed any lag.
The only downside in my opinion, so far, is that the gmail icon counter only shows the count of your primary account. Hopefully they enhance that to show counts of multiple accounts soon.
The biggest down side about apps like this is its not a true replacement for the lock screen.. It is just an app that runs over top of the default one.. I bought widgetlocker and now dont use it. I will sometimes see the stock lock screen or it wont have lag when locking it.. I tried GoTo and its about the same..
I came from the iPhone and used intelliscreen which just added stuff to the default lock screen.. Was amazing.. Wish someone could come up with the same type of mod for the android lock screen.. =[

Testing more, the only time I ever see the normal lockscreen is if I enable the option to disable the volume/camera buttons. I reported it, not sure what they'll do about it.
That said, I don't actually want that option enabled so I never see the normal lockscreen in my real use.
I also still have not run into any lag, but I guess that will vary based on a zillion different factors from person to person.
You're right though, I wish that things like this could be true replacements.
Theres a way to disable the lock.screen on htc devices but that's cause its a .apk with some digging around I'm sure someone can disable the tw lock screen. Doing so would allow you to use the app without the stock lock screen showing up. Not to sure about lag thought

That'd be cool... I'll have to search around.
I need to use the phone for a bit longer and test more, but I went into Titanium and froze TWLauncher and I am no longer getting the normal lockscreen, even if I disable GOTO, so I think it is gone.
I do see the normal lockscreen very briefly if I reboot the the phone, but it goes away in a split second and I don't see it again unless I reboot again.
Perhaps that is all that is needed.

Nevermind... that SEEMED to work for a little bit, but now if I have the disable volume/camera option enabled I see the normal lockscreen for a split second again. It goes away quickly, but it does appear.
That said, I still never see it at all if I don't enable the disable volume/camera option.
Ok, I installed NoLock (free in the Market) and disabled the lockscreen with it and that works. I see the normal lockscreen very briefly upon a reboot, but never again after that.
I tested a bit longer this time before saying so, lol.
This thing works flawlessly for me. Sometimes my fat fingers have a hard time stopping on the text message one, but that is user error.
Goto is awesome... it even ran with no lag on my hero
Traced with Ultra Keyboard from my *Epic*
So I've been using this for a day now and I love it. Can change the shortcuts to similar apps, can unlock, doesn't make phone lag and it's only .99c

I've also been using it for a day now, and it's a really nice app!
Been seeing the regular homescreen quite a few times though, will try to disable the "enable the disable volume/camera option"' option...
yeah as someone else said you have to use nolock (market) with any lockscreen app but i've heard that it does make it pretty flawless
You can do this and it's probably easier to change your lockscreen over and over, but you can navigate the system, or apply a new theme which either way can change the system files. Someone more knowledgeable than me can chime in as to what you need to do, I'm not sure if you can delete it and disable it that way or if it just puts something else up instead, but I definitely know you can theme the lockscreen because I have seen different ROM's have different lockscreens.
Thanks for.posting this app. Its pretty good.

Hi all,
I cannot but tell you this huge doubt that has been haunting me since I got my Nexus 4: is this new 4.2 lockscreen really an improvement?
For me, it can be considered as a step forward (widgets) and two steps backward (camera and Google Now).
Let me explain:
Step back 1: the camera is now accessible only by swiping the screen to the right
Step back 2: Google Now is hidden as a tiny, little, dotted ring in the far bottom of the screen (see attached image)
Step forward: widgets to the left screen
This is all related to the new circle lock widget, that now allows you only to unlock the phone by dragging the center to whatever position in the borders (see attached image).
And you wanna now why Google did this? I'm strongly convinced they did it because of Apple's lockscreen patent. No joke and no flame intended here. If you read the patent, it clearly says that
The device is unlocked if contact with the display corresponds to a predefined gesture for unlocking the device.
Click to collapse
Well, with this upgrade the "predefined gesture" exists no more. Before Android 4.2, the only way you could slide to unlock was to move from point A (center) to point B (right): that's exactly what we call a "predefined gesture". Now you can slide to unlock from point A (center) to point B (right), or point C (left), or point D (bottom), and so on. In Android 4.2 the user is free to unlock to whatever position he or she feels like, Google is safe from Apple lawtrolls, but my impression is that we all lose here.
If this is not the reason, I can't figure out why they did this.
Honestly, who cares to unlock to whatever position? It is an automated gesture, I hardly see anyone saying "Oh, thank God, I really needed to swipe left and now I can, good job Google".
Now, instead of having three of the most useful apps in one place, and unlocking them immediately, we have to break this process in three different procedures. This is not immediate, this is awful and I'd like Google to revert to how things were before. They can leave the widgets, but the circle lock widget has to be restored as we have seen it in 4.1.
What do you think? Is this new lockscreen really this big improvement or, like me, do you see more cons than pros?
overall, im ok with it. like the google now thing is fine. but sliding left and right can sometimes be bothersome, but it wont kill me
It is just the start. They will build on it.

I was worried as well, After using it on my GNex i have to say i like it, Alot of 3rd party apps have updated and are usable like Hd Widgets and Falcon for twitter. Im sure many more will follow.Getting to the camera and google now still only take 1 swipe. I see where you are coming from but adding functionality is hardly a step back. You dont have to use widgets and getting to Gnow and the camera are just as simple
i really do like the google now being down there. its where the home button actually is, which makes sense since you do drag up from the home button to get to google now quickly when on any screen (besides the lock screen of course). a bit more organized and less confusing for those who are coming to this phone for the first time
I just want my clock widget to get better from the black eye it's got.
What I'm saying is that the overall third party widget idea is more than welcome, but Google could have done much better by keeping Google Now and the Camera app within the lock circle and giving more space to widgets: that would have been accessible not only by swiping to the left, but also to the right.

You know, at first I thought they had eliminated Google Now completely, then a friend of mine told me that it was in fact hidden behind that little dotted circle.
Every time you unlock in 4.1, you see a giant Google Now logo; in 4.2, if you want to get access to it in the lock screen, you have to go figure it out.

but youre used to it being on the lock screen, like sliding it up. im saying more for those who are new to the phone. they may be like "oh, sliding up on the home button gives me google now. cool!" then they will think that, and when going to the lock screen, it'll be the same process for them. now thats only my speculation. but i understand what you mean
It looks like a bug for me!!! The 4.1 lockscreen was way better!

Old lockscreen found running on 4.2 Nexus 4
Thought this might interest you, also I would love to know how this is possible.
Here in the UK I tried out a Nexus 4 in a Carphone Warehouse store yesterday. We opened the box for the first time, booted up the phone and it presented us with the 4.1 version of the lockscreen .
The thing is, the phone was running on Android 4.2, I checked the settings, it was confirmed to be Android 4.2.
I am desperately trying to find a way to restore the old lock screen. The camera loads slower, the widgets are rubbish and I hate the new clock typeface.
Does anyone else know how this could be possible? The phone was unboxed and came straight from Google.

if you read reviews on the device, they were running 4.2 without the lockscreen widgets. the OTA implemented the functionality. idk why everyone thinks its bad. im ok with it. maybe the devs will include the option to have the old lockscreen in a custom ROM in the future

Oh now that is interesting, I'm very surprised Google didn't allow people to retain the old lock screen. One can only hope they listen to complaints and roll out an option to toggle widgets, customise clock typeface, etc.
I find accessing the camera by swiping to be a slower experience than before. It makes all that work speeding up the shutter seem a little pointless.
Not only that but sliding between widgets is very awkward when you have a phone case on. Step backwards indeed.
Initially I didn't like it, but it's kinda grown on me now. And I actually like the look of the clock with the hour in bold :victory:
If it's ever too humid or I'm too sweaty, making the phone that easy to unlock one way or another leads to some nasty accidents in the pocket. One time I ended up pocket calling two people over 20 times in the period of an hour. And that was with the original slide to unlock. It was so bad I had to put a pin lock on it temporarily.
For those complaining about the bold hour font on the clock you can easily download a mod to change it.
I didn't like the two flashing boxes that appeared for the widget screens so I downloaded a mod and now I just see the clock and the pattern unlock.

Really? I haven't found any bugs whatsoever in 4.2 so far.
I have had a savage hatred for Google's idea of softkeys (while loving Button Saviour's) ever since HC dropped on us with the Xoom. Is this method of getting rid of the navigation bar viable on the Nook HD? I read from the guides that the Nook was "sensitive" but am too dumb to know what this means.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1985592
Currently on 2.0.5 rooted with GApps but no location.
Do not try. Will do 8 boot, restore. Seems most anything related to /system will cause this.
Despite this limitation I still hate the Nexus 7 enough to stick with the NookHD
I have the same/similar problem with the grey toolbar. I have used LeapinLar's excellent guide for getting CWM on the nook and it works very well indeed. The only problem is that when running BSplayer/Moboplayer/Mxplayer etc the nook home grey bar doesn't disappear when playing a video.
The grey bar does go black but the screen doesn't expand to make use of the extra space that the stock nook video player uses. Is there a setting that makes the grey bar slide away like on the stock video player? If one player can do it hopefully the other player can be made to do the same, but I can't find a setting that allow this?
Cheers

There is no setting to do what you want. And the bar turning black with tiny white dots is called "lights out" mode. It is to fool you into thinking it is gone. It is a "feature".
They only way to get the bar to disappear is with third party software like "GMD gesture control". That particular one is a paid software.
Sent from my HD+ running CM10 on SD with XDA Premium
You can try a free application called "full!screen" to hide the gray toolbar.
This should work with any CM10. I wrote it for my TouchPad and it also works on my HD2
ToggleBarCM10.apk
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1555097&d=1355245239
full!screen needs access to system tools. Will this result in me never being able to let the tablet die for want of battery or rebooting? GMD GestureControl also requests the access to "modify system settings".
I'm fine with never turning it off but I am wondering if there are other ways that the 8loop bootloop can occur. I mostly use the Nook for satisfying an 18 year old habit of reading TIME magazine so I would prefer to be on stock rather than switch back and forth.
It really is weird...I can't eat cereal without reading last week's news on TIME
Man, I messed up that edit!
I will repeat.
It is ok to change system settings, just not /system. System settings is in /data.
Neither GMD or full!screen change /system.
Earlier I found full!screen did not work, but now it does.
Oh, it is a new version, that's is why it works now... and I just rebooted and no issues. It is awesome.
Sent from my BNTV400 using Tapatalk
CM10 already contains the code to switch the bar on and off, it is call expanded desktop.
It is usually accessed through the power menu but some builds don't have that option enabled, still the "logic" (finishAnimationLw()) inside the android.policy.jar is always there and can be "activated" using a simple setting on the system database.
Not sure about the "new" fullscreen app, but the way GMD used to hide the bar was killing the systemui service.
"ToggleBarCM10.apk" just updates the setting db switching the value on and off, it doesn't do anything else. It's not going to affect /system.
I've been doing that for quite a long time on the TouchPad and other devices with CM9 and CM10.
Search for "No way to hide the bottom bar in CM9" and you will would find the thread in Rootzwiki with a lot of more info about it
Weird, in the home screen, when i move my an app right above the dock just right above it, it doesnt stay there but went straight down to the dock? anyone has this same issue? it was working fine on my s8+, tablet, both imported with the same save settings.
It happened to me once. In my case I had an e-mail widget that was taking up most of the page. Visually it looked like there should be enough space to put an icon above the dock, but it wasn't until I shrunk the widget that I was able to correctly add the icon. Hope this helps

I think you can go into Nova setting, under Desktop, either go to Advanced and turn on "Widget overlap" or under Desktop grid and check "Subgrid Positioning". I guess you can resize it too.
Hmm, im not using any widget, just a simple plain screen though. Tried Widget overlap, subgrid positioning was already enabled from previous settings and resizing, issue still remain.
