Hi, i try to install a clockwork mod on rooted galaxy s i9000 (JPY firmware) by rom manager downloaded from market, all things goes fine but when i enter a recovery mode, it is still a default samsung recovery not clock work. Pls help.
I have a other question, can i install a different modem from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9724862&postcount=14434
Can I do it directly from gui of rom manager by choosing “Install ROM from SD Card” and then select a new modem zip ? Does it not brick my phone and works on JPY firmware ?
Install clockwork update twice usually boots to CWM on second install .

Can any rom be installed from recovery?
Im trying to install a rom that has the following instruction but i dont understand them. I am rooted by the way
"installation guide ( for beginners):
1- flash your phone with 2.3.5 JVT with repartion checkbbox (with odin)
2- install semephore kernel 1.8.1 (with odin)
3- install lagfix file ( install recovery menu)
4- then you have ex4 program in menu . open that program and choice convert to ex4 .
5- install the rom from recovery menu."
Im using 1.12.9 MIUI rom which is based on 2.3.7 JVK
First download stock ROM JVT just search it up in the forum flash it through the program ODIN and then download the semaphore kernel and put the tar in the PDA section and flash through ODIN again. Then download ROM manager off the market and flash Clockworkmod Recovery through the app and boot into CWM and flash the ROM
Hello.
I rooted my SGS+ GT-I9001 and installed ROM Manager. Now I would like to flash CWM Recovery, but if I try to install it via ROM Manager the app asks me to confirm my device. But in my list no I9001 is listed, only Samsung Galaxy S I9000. Should I choose this or take another way to get CWM on my phone?
Thanks,
wormix
no DON'T select i9000
nd btw after 2.3 update of i9000 rom manager does not install cwm on it...
So even if u select i9000 it wont be able to install cwm...
btw search xda and flash a custom kernel wid cwm (using odin)
Hi
I have samsung galaxy s1 and I tried to install a custom rom by the odin, I did it few times already but this time I encountered a problem.
I wanted to install a new rom and a new kernel, I had a rom with no option for "install from zip file" in the recovery mode, so the first thing I did is to install the rom by inserting the CSC PDA and PHONE files.
Then, I installed a new kernel also by the Odin, speedmode 16,
Then I was trying to get into recovery mode to install my custom MIUI and I couldn't, the phone just refuses to get into the recovery mode.
I could get into download mode, and the phone is working just fine, but I dont have the recovery mode.
Now Im looking for a recommended rom stock to install a clear fresh installation, because I dont think I have another option, I would like to get a recomendation for a rom and for a kernel to fix this problem and to renew my phone.
Thanks
Just flash a cfroot kernel followed by miui and you are golden.

How to install Clockwork mod recovery on my rooted Samsung Captivate i897? Plz explain it in full detail if you can.
Use Odin3 v 1.83 or similar. Download a .tar file version of a kernel that is compatible with what firmware u r currently running (example: use KK4 Corn Kernel v7.0A if ur firmware is gb i897uckk4). Open Odin, select the PDA tab, navigate on ur pc to the .tar kernel, select it, connect ur phone to the pc in download mode and select Start. Done. Reboot into cwm recovery.
Or since u have Root...copy the .tar kernel to ur phone's internal sd and use SGS Kernel flasher from the Play Store. Done...again.
Fyi, Don't use Rom Manager---it doesn't play well with the Captivate.

it installed an older version of CWM
then i proceeded to flash AOKP with that CWM, which somehow updated CWM to the latest version

Yeah, it installed an older version for me as well. Then, when I loaded the CyanogenMod 10 zip from sdcard, it updated ClockworkMod to latest, restarted, then I had to load it from zip again to complete installation.
Seems ClockworkMod is included in the CyanogenMod zip file and auto upgrades when it detects an old clockworkmod.
I am new to this .. and obviously, I did not complete Root-ing and done Flash via ( "power"+ "home" + install zip ROM via SD card ) which did not complete
Phone is not unable to boot ( is in booting loop )
Question:
What Can I do ?
1. ODIN + USB driver + original ROM, downloaded with KIES; downloaded via ODIN ?
2. Do I have Brick instead of the phone ?
thank you

Your only option is to flash the stock rom using odin. Here is the link on how to install stock rom using odin,
Flash stock rom on Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 using odin
Once installed, go to recoverymod and do a wipe data/ factory reset & wipe cache (otherwise bootloop might occur). Then restart. Now you have successfully flashed the stock rom. Here is the link for rooting and installing CWM 5 on Samsung Galaxy Ace,
