[Q]every application died at startup after flashing theme - Desire HD Themes and Apps

I flashed a theme and reboot, but once startup, the phone shows message that every application had stop, and the whole system reboot again and again.
I had made a backup before flashing, therefore able to recover. But I just wonder what is wrong with my phone, why my phone can not startup?

The reason this happened is you have flashed the wrong version of the theme. Which rom are you running

[Q] Multiple Captivate problems

Today I turned off my Captivate for the first time in a couple days. When I turned it back on, it went through the ATT and Galaxy S animations, then remained at a black screen. It then vibrated on semi-regular intervals, in triplets, kind of like when an app force closes. I went to recovery mode and deleted user data, so now the phone boots into android. It starts with the setting up the phone tutorial, but whenever I get past the Google Location Services page the PhoneSetupWizard crashes then restarts. I cannot seem to get by this into the rest of the OS.
Possible cause: I was messing with a settings database a few days ago to try and enable side-loading. For some reason I feel like I may have accidentally deleted that whole .db file, which is obviously a problem.
What would be the best thing to do so I can get back to using my phone normally again? Would it be easiest to flash a new rom?

Alternatly, install any custom rom as an update.zip, or install clockwork recovery zip and install any custom rom zip file.
Thanks I'll probably go the custom rom route. And do you know why the phone setup wizard app would continually crash? Is it possible that clearing user data through the android recovery menu deleted part of it, stopping the phone from functioning? If so, it makes android recovery rather useless. Installing clockwork recovery would be a good choice.

clockworkmod restore boot loop?

hey everyone, i'm new here. Sorry if this has been posted before, but i'm having a bit of a problem right now.. I rooted my CDMA hero last night. I made a nandroid backup of my phone before i flashed any roms. I flashed a rom and did something wrong, so i tried to restore my nandroid backup... and i got stuck at the "htc - quietly brilliant" screen. i then found out i'm supposed to wipe all data, so i did, and flashed the nandroid backup again.. same problem. so i flashed a different ROM and it loaded up.. so, again, i wiped all data and tried to restore my stock ROM (google didn't back up contacts when it said they were, so i'm trying to restore to get them back)... and i'm STILL getting the quietly brilliant screen. Any help? Thanks!
When you restore - it does take a while to boot up. How much time did you wait on the white screen? Also, did you get any errors during the nand restore?
no, no errors.. and i waited a pretty long time. Enough to allow the "Quietly Brilliant" screen to flash black, then come back up a few times... i'll do another nandroid restore though and watch for errors. But when i did it before, I didn't see any.
this can happen if you don't have enough space on your sd card during the backup. it has been my experience that nand will not give you an error when it runs out of space, everything appears to have completed as it should, but when you go to restore not everything is there, thus causing the phone not to boot.
also as someone else stated the first boot after a wipe can take a very very long time. 10-15+ mins. (this is not always the case)
my advice (for what it is worth) try a full wipe, and load a new rom. another thing to consider is that most (should be all) roms do not come with gapps built in. once you flash the new rom, before you try and boot it, you should also flash gapps. for instance aospCMod will not load without it.
my sd card actually got messed up before all of this (pulled the battery out when phone froze) so i reformatted it.. it was almost completely empty when I did the backup. It's an 8gb card, too.
yeah i'm actually using a version of aosp, and i installed gapps. i'm currently running it now, but i lost all of my contacts (100+... haha)
I'll charge the phone up, restore and let it be for 10-15 mins like you suggested, when I get home later today. Thanks everyone so much for the help.

Are you using Firerat mod? That happens when the partition is too small.

System Checking...

Today when i restarted my O2X, the boot showed a message in the bottom "System Checking..." while the LG logo and the progress bar was showing.
I did take around 1 min to do it.
What is this?? Is it normal?
I don't know if it is normal but I do know I got it after a BSOD episode. However I ended up stuck in the boot loader after that and had to do a hard reset to get it going again.
I guess its a clean up mechanism that kicks in if the boot process find something fishy.
Hope you don't end up having to do a hard reset like me. But on the upside I haven't had a single hang or reboot after that. Fingers crossed...

Same with me happened today but the device was not hanged. It booted normally after system cheking completion.
It happens from time to time but I think the filesystem is pretty robust overall and capable of recovering from smaller errors.

Well, you're all lucky then. I just got another hang this weekend and had to hard reset again. Wonder if I'm the only one with this problem on stock rom?
I have done nothing with it up until now. I was planning on waiting to see that LG got the stock rom stable first. However after this latest hard reset and loosing all app data I promptly rooted it and intalled titanium backup. Now I'm at least more prepared for the next time.

Happened to me just now...although it did took about 5 long minutes to boot and it rebooted to stock...
no biggie, just used titanium bu and back to normal
This has only ever happened to me so far using the stock 2.2.2 rom so maybe root and upgrade to a custom 2.3.4 rom if you haven't done so already.

VZW: Force closes every app I try to open!

As it sounds in the title. I am helping a friend out with his Tab. I have tried various ROMS, but the issue still remains and that is, the Tab loads from a restart, every app force closes. I mean every app. I can go into the drawer click on an app, and it force closes before it even opens. I am at a loss. I have an Android phone but this one has me stumped. Any thoughts?

Have you done a full factory wipe to try starting from scratch? Found the stock rom and flashed that? Let us know what steps you've taken and we can probably help you get your friend up and running again.
I have done a factory wipe. I booted into recovery, wipe data/factory reset as well as wipe the cache partition. It also seems to reset the settings every time the Tab is rebooted. Should it affect it if the Tablet is not connected to any service? He is just using it as a side gadget. He hooks it up to wifi occasionally, but that's about it.
I would download a good stock carrier rom and kernel for whatever version he has (vzw sprint...whatever) and set it back to as it shipped from carrier. Maybe a system file is shot.

I flashed to a stock VZW rom, and no dice. When it reboots, all of the apps force close either at startup or when they are pressed. This is ridiculous!
I used this ROM
When I flashed it back to stock, the Setup Wizard keeps force closing. So now I can't even get to the homescreen or even the activate screen to bypass activation.
Are you flashing through recovery or using odin? That would be my advice, get a stock tar and odin

try flashing a kernel with clockwork. then flash whatever rom. and do wipe data, wipe cache, and then go into advanced, and wipe the dalvik cache.
Any thoughts on which one?
I know there have been other threads relating to this. It will never do a full reset. It always recovers to a previous image.
Odin with a stock tar

I have done a flash using the stock rom. The issue that it is having, is that everytime I reboot the Tab, I ALWAYS have to start from scratch. The ROM changes when I flash, but all of the previous users info is still there. I go in to app management remove every 3rd party app I can find, any personal data (i.e. google accounts, messages etc.), but when I reboot the Tab, ALL of the info that I just deleted is back on device. After just a simple reboot. I tried just installing CWM but superuser keeps force closing so I can never boot into CWM recovery. Any of the kernels that I can find no longer have valid links, does any one have a kernel available. Very frustrating! I have used both Odin and Heimdall.

Problem Installing ROMS

I have a recurring issue trying to install any roms on this device. Every time I perform an install, after I reboot I get the error that the android keyboard has stopped working (keyboard crashes). It happens over and over. I can't type anything and the home button doesn't work, either.
I wipe the system and cache before doing every install, do a factory reset after, wipe dalvik, let it sit before rebooting. It doesn't matter if I wait 5 minutes or an hour, I get the same error every time. I have tried every rom in this forum, same result, same error.
I end up having to restore back to factory rooted every time.
Is there something that I just keep forgetting to do? Something I'm missing? Any help would be appreciated.

Are you using TWRP or cwm?

I was using cwr originally with this phone and with all previous phones, but switched to twrp since most people say it's better.

And it still happens with twrp?
These are the steps I take with twrp.
1. Wipe data
2. Wipe system
3. Wipe cache/dalvik
4. Install rom
5. Install gapps if flashing aosp based rom.
6. Wipe cache/dalvik
7. Fix permissions *optional
8. Reboot then leave alone and don't touch for ten minutes.
9. Reboot again and enjoy.
If that doesn't work then something is wrong with your phone.

I have no idea if this will help because i've never had this problem, but as long as your phone hasn't frozen, maybe you could try installing a 3rd party keyboard from the Play store (do it from the Play store on your PC since you can't use the keyboard on your phone). Maybe that might fix what's broken, or at least give you the option to use another keyboard.
Another option would be to install Teamviewer QuickSupport from the Play store (again, use your PC). This free app allows you to actually control your Android phone from your computer (Your phone actually pops up in a window and you can control it with mouse clicks), so you might be able to troubleshoot a little bit easier using that, or install apps, etc.
Also, if you are installing Gapps, make sure you are using the right one for your specific ROM. There are separate ones for JB ROMS and ICS ROMS (if I remember correctly). Also, make sure the one you are using is the latest version for that ROM.
I hope one of these suggestions helps. If either one does, click the thanks button.
