hello can someone give me some advice what is the best way to flash to froyo
do you need to have a firmware already installed like jm8 for instance or can you
just wipe my phone and install from fresh .
thank you
Just flash JPY from samfirmware.com as a PDA without a PIT file selected.
can i do it even if my galaxy doesnt have a firmware already installed i was wanting
to do it from a fresh wipe then just install the jpy
thank you
i would suggest to flash Darky's Rom. it's easy and you don't need to use odin or heimdall. plus its a really fast Rom!

i was looking into doing that but an i flash without having a firmware already installed
or do i need one already on the phone i have read on a lot of post people saying
you need something like jm8 firmware first then you can flash over it dont know
whats the best way realy
thank you
Kies 2 is the easiest way........... If you want to flash to a custom 2.2 I suggest reading through these forums for a few good hours.
How does your phone work if you have no firmware .???
Suggest A Froyo update is normally via Kies . Why do you need to flash ??
Suggest B If you are flashing custom roms please please read all the posts regarding flashing and save breaking your phone .
Suggest C questions go in the Q& A section not development .

<----- says the best way to flash FroYo if you are a woman is to wear a t-shirt with FroYo stencilled.
Seriously, if you want an official 2.2, try one thats correct for your country & region. General section has a sticky.
If you are adventerous & want to experiment, try one of the MODDED ROMs available. There is a sticky here in dev.
If you want a 2.2.1 without ant modifications, try to search for it here in dev with a title [MOD][CSC] or something or try my desi link in my signature. I will search & add links later.
PS : how old are you?

just flash CF-Root via odin, then clockworkmod, create a backup and try the romkitchen or darkys rom. best roms imo
But in this tutorial : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939752
Just tells how to falsh custom firmwares, how do i do to install darkys rom for exemple ?
I need to install first a custom firmware ?

Well the simple answer is look at page one of Darkys posts where oddly enough the instructions are written as how to flash his rom .
Bit of advice dont flash until you really understand what you are doing unless you want to join the IBSGS club short for i bricked my galaxys an now it does not work .

Shouldn't that be IBMSGS club?
This is becoming way too common. Flashing before reading.
I dont want to brick my phone, if that happens i will cry like a b*** xp I will do step by step
You should look out for Darky's ROM, best ROM out there! It makes your SGS so damn fast
They even have a great step by step tutorial on how to root/flash your SGS. Don't have the link by hand, you should look out for it ^^
One advice: Never ever flash the official 2.2 Update from Samsung. My phone was nearly turned complete useless because I had since then terrrible performance problems...

Ok so im keen on flashing this Darky's ROM because of its proposed battery life and speed compared to stock firmwares. I was wondering if people could give me links or advice as to what else I would need to flash at the same time so that I have optimum coverage for my provider (Optus- Australia). I'm on a stock Optus 2.1 eclair ROM.
Thanks!
Please, do some research instead of just asking questions. We're trying to prevent spamming of the same questions over and over. Look in the developers page, there's plenty of information there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=665
I had done some research and had not found any solution specific to my carrier (Optus) apart from installing a Optus Modem. Could you tell me how I would install a Optus Modem?
because of its proposed battery life and speed compared to stock firmwares.
??????????????????????????????????????????
You would need to ask the developer of that rom what you need or read post in the OZ post .
Thats as well as reading Darky FAQs etc.
Better still i can point you to Opus modem in rom kitchin .
Build your own rom .

you dont need to flash an optus modem, however,it is highly recommended that you upgrade to 2.2 through kies or otherwise. other than that, you will need to be rooted with clock work mod. after that , just drag and drop the rom zip in to your phone, download the configuration app from the market and flash from there.
Whenever I flash a new darky version I normally flash his odin ressirection edition then use cwm to flash latest version hope that helps

Welcome to Darky's ROM!
hi all
i've done a relatively thorough search in the time i've had this morning... I'm helping a friend with her new SGS.. before i screw her over i wanna find a clean GB rom that she can Odin in case something goes wrong.. I have 2 on my computer, but i cannot find one online?! I must be looking in the wrong places...
Anyways, please can someone direct me to a clean odin-flashable GB ROM that does NOT require the phone to be running any specific build before flashing?
Many thanks

I would suggest building one for her in the ROM Kitchen. I think a CWM flashable ROM would be a better safety net then having to go back into Odin.
You can get most (if not all?) of the official and 'leaked' firmware from samfirmware.com
But since they are the stock rom, they are bundled with crap like alkido etc.

thanks guys..
@Fallen.. i want to stay away from having to do adb stuff, since neither myself or the friend i am helping (over skype only) are familiar with adb.
@rschenck.. i'm familiar with RK, but have never flashed anything from them... can i just cook a random ROM on their website and flash it onto an SGS without fulfilling any requirements?
@chanw4.. samfirmware... could work - i'm in cape town, south africa... which region should i download?
thanks again peeps
Hi.
Before I spam up more of the ROM threads I figured I'd better make a thread.
I'm at 2.2.1 with Voodoo Lagfix and Soundfix Kernel right now.
I want to upgrade to Gingerbread or one of the more functional ICS Roms.
Now in all the threads about them I don't see anything about Bootloaders, Firmware and so on.
My Question:
What do I have to flash and in what order?
I figured bootloader>firmware>ROM+RADIO?
Will the old ROM(2.2.1) work with the new bootloader?
The situation is kind of bad since my phone is my only source for internet right now, so KIES for basic stock upgrading is out of question.
I want to reconfigure my apps and all that stuff anyway so a backup will of course be done but is not necessary.
Thanks for reading and maybe some other people coming from 2.2.1 or lower will also find help here.

use the above link .. be sure to click on update bootloader .. as you are coming from froyo rom to GB rom so you need GB bootloader.. rest of the odin settings will be as shown in the video in the link
Thanks for your reply.
I hope you don't missunderstand me but I don't want to just follow a tutorial, I want to know what I am doing.
And this tutorial is basically telling me "use that PIT and that PDA" and boom.
But what about the bootloader? Does this change the Kernel?

.pit file contains the information of how to partition your space, if you choose .pit file in odin, you'll have to click repartition otherwise its not needed..
for details about all file types you can just google...
The guy in video didn't check bootloader because he was flashing from a GB rom only.. when you are coming from a froyo rom, you'll have to check the bootloader option as it'll be required to run GB rom otherwise you may end up in a boot loop..
The kernel that comes with the rom will be flashed... so the kernel you have now will change

Yes, it's possible and the same procedure as with any GB ROM. Important is that most ICS ROM's are still in beta, nobody can and will guarantee anything.
Sorry, you can but you need the GB Bootloaders

Odin is not that dangerous :silly: You just have to look that you put the files on the right place and then just dont touch the phone while flashing. Then it is quite safe Just search for a tutorial.
Visit - Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 - Flashing to Original ROM : https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum/threads/samsung-galaxy-s-gt-i9000-flashing-to-original-rom.46/
You can try to flash TeamwinRecovery/CWM with stock recovery than you just copy the stockrom to your sd card an flash it with the TWR/CWM... Afterwards you just flash the stock recovery again with TWR/CWM and you've finished without odin I hope it really works for sgs, cause i've tested that only with sgs plus

All these other people posted links for instructions and stuff to alternate websites.
If you still need help, use the xDa written guide on flashing the stock firmware for your device.

That link has AT&T provided, search the forums for the carrier/model GS4 you have and download the stock firmware.
