[Q] Bluetooth File Transfer - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does Froyo or Galaxy S not support Bluetooth File Transfer Natively? I've found a few post with people suggesting to download a widget "Bluetooth File Transfer". Before the froyo update I would have sworn I was able to transfer files to and from my Galaxy S to the PC, now I can only transfer from PC to Galaxy S. On the PC side I can only use the Galaxy S as a modem.
Is there something I'm missing. I'm running Windows 7 64bit.

Yes.. Galaxy S can send files over bluetooth.
I'm using the same Windows machine.
Steps :
1. Open Bluetooth settings and turn ON the bluetooth.
2. Under the scanned bluetooth devices SELECT YOUR PC's bluetooth name (Make sure the bluetooth on PC is ON) . It will Say PAIRING.
3. You'll get a CONFIRM PASSWORD box on both Mobile and PC. Accept them. Now you are PAIRED.
4. Now send any document from PC to mobile phone.

Win 7 64bit. Works for me as well. send straight from phone but from PC I have to right click the bluetooth icon in system tray and choose 'send a file'. There is also 'receive a file' in that menu have you tried that?

Thanks so much that did the trick. Weird that I dont' remember having to select receive a file the last time I did a transfer from phone to PC

It will depend on the bluetooth drivers you have on your desktop. I used to have to select send file and receive file off the taskbar but with the last update of widcomm drivers, it just automatically receives. I can send any file using right click and send to bluetooth.
Oh, yeah. Windows 7 32-bit. Drivers are broadcom version 6.3.0.4010 and 6.2.0.9405.

How do I use the Captivate as a WiFi NAS?

I've been using ES File Explorer to transfer files via WiFi to and from the Windows shares in my LAN. This method works flawlessly, but I would prefer to connect my Captivate to the USB charger and access the Internal/External Storage cards from any Windows desktop in my house and use the Windows File Explorer to transfer files to/from the Captivate.
I found and app in the Market called On Air (WiFi Disk) that is supposed to act as a WebDAV server, but I have been unable to get it to work. My understanding was (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that the Windows File Explorer already has a WebDAV client built-in. So given that On Air is some sort of WebDAV server I'd be able to access it from a Windows desktop. I can already ping the IP address of the phone while is running On Air. So I was hopping that while the On Air App was running on the phone I could issue the command -> net use x: \\phone ip address\Resourcename from a Windows desktop and connect the phone as a network drive. The thing is that it's not clear what the "resourcename" is when you use On Air as the WebDAV server. I tried onair and other names as the resourcename, but it did not work. I think that using File Explorer from Windows instead of a browser or a dedicated WebDAV client would be the most convenient way to do file transfers. I also tried Firefox, IE and AnyClient (WebDAV client) to access the On Air share, but was also unsuccessful. I could not find any documentation on how to use On Air, but I assume that is working for some folks.
I guess what I'm looking for is an application that allows me to access the Captivate storage, as it acts as a WiFi NAS, from any Windows desktop attached to my LAN. Or someone with instructions on how to get the On Air app to work so that I can transfer files to/from the Captivate using any Windows desktop in my LAN.
I used FileZilla using FTP. Make sure you use active mode, worked for me. Good luck.

Ok, I downloaded FileZilla and when I try to connect to the On Air Server it appears to stablish a session, but it eventually fails. I get the following messages:
Status: Connecting to 192.168.1.112:5548...
Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Error: Connection timed out
Error: Could not connect to server
Status: Waiting to retry...
Status: Connecting to 192.168.1.112:5548...
Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Error: Connection timed out
Error: Could not connect to server
I used onair and anonymous as ids and the password number generated by On Air.
What exactly do you mean by making sure that I use Active Mode? I went to the FTP Active settings... what settings should I have there?
Open the Site Manager in FileZilla by either clicking file then site manager or using the shortcut CTRL+s. Here you create a site, or server, to connect to. In the general tab fill out the info from On Air. Use onair as your user and the four digit number that On Air generates as the password.
Now under the tab for transfer setting, you check the active radio button. Once you click connect you should be able to see your Cappy.
Let me know if you still need help.

Thanks for the help, but I was unable to connect using FileZilla's Site Manager with your instructions.. The version of FileZilla that I downloaded (3.3.4.1) did not have a WebDAV connection type. I tried the FTP option, but I kept getting the message: "Connection established, waiting for welcome message..." What connection option are you using?
After a few trials and errors... I finally connected to the On Air server on the Captivate, but with AnyClient 2.0 using its WebDAV connection type. I'm able to transfer files to/from my Captivate using any Windows desktop in my LAN. File transfers from the Captivate to the desktop are actually pretty fast. Now that I know that the WebDAV server is up and running and accepting connections in the Captivate... tomorrow, if I get a chance, I'll try again to get it to work using the Windows File Explorer.
Ok, I got On Air WebADV working using Windows File Explorer... BUT, only using Windows XP's File Explorer. It "appears" that there is a limitation in the Mini Redirector built-in the File Explorer of Windows 7 that only allows WebADV connection in port 80. The default port of On Air WebADV server is 8880 and there is no (user friendly) option to change this port either in On Air or in the File Explorer of Windows 7. I'll keep looking around to see if there is a way to change (hack) the default port of Windows 7 File Explorer. There is probably a registry entry to change this, but I'm afraid that changing it will break Web connections elsewhere within Windows 7..

Did you change On Air to use FTP protocol? If you tap the icon on the top right it changes protocols. Anyway, glad to see you got it to work.

Yeap, I tried several protocols, but none work using Win 7 File Explorer because the Map Network Drive Wizard does not allow ftp or http connections to ports other than the default ports. So you can only enter ftp://ipaddress or http://ipaddress. In Windows XP you can enter http://ipaddress:anyport# in the Add Network Place Wizard and it works. XP then prompts you for the id and pw and the folder for the WebDAV server is added under My Network Places in File Explorer. I prefer WebDAV as it is a newer and more flexible protocol than FTP.

[Q] Htc Hd7 as a USB drive.... Now What?

I managed to follow the instructions found at knowyourcell.com about turning your HD7 into a USB drive... It will open and read as a drive, but I can't transfer or read anything... Help would be appreciated. I am a noob so please take it easy on me.... What now? How can I open it up?
Instructions:
1. Open Windows Registry Editor by typing regedit in your start menu
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB
3. Perform a search for ZuneDriver
1. The search should yield a result similar to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\VID_045E&PID_04EC&MI_00\6&27ffd631&0&0000\Device Parameters\WUDF
4. Click up one level to the Device Parameters key
5. Change ShowInShell from 0 to 1
6. Change PortableDeviceNameSpaceExcludeFromShell from 1 to 0
7. Change EnableLegacySupport from 0 to 1
8. Change EnableDefaultAutoPlaySupport
Thats what i saw in my Explorer.
Tried to cpy a mp3 file into Music, that did not work.
After a restart of hd7 i came only to the level Storage - no sub folders are visable any more now.
And even with my first attempt i had now folder for movies. May be as i do not have any movie in devices storage?
Now everything works fine.
It did'nt work, as there was a filtransfer by zune on his way to the phone. And even killing zune on pc blocked the storage card.
-So edit the registry as mentioned above
-connect your hd7 via usb to pc
-zune starts now
-kill all zune transfer processes
-kill zune
-go to your windows explorer
-you can copy and past media files now.
unfortunaly the office hub is not visable by this procedure.
But i think we are not far away do find out in very near future.
nice! thanks for this. it works.
Sweet!! Got it to work!! Thanks for the help HUMS... Now what? Is there any way to mod up a Ringtone folder? I tried putting in a WMA ringtone and added the folder but no dice... Any suggestions?
great. it works... thanx!

As every program has its own hub.

Yes I have; I have 6 USB ports and tried all of them. My wife's iphone and my HTC HD2 connects perfectly to the computer. When I plug in the HD7 however, it takes a charge, and windows will try to install it, then says "installation failed" and thats it. I wonder if its problem with vista, with everyone that is successful at connecting their devices, anyone on vista?

OK. Lets split it to two issues:
1. you want to copy media files (Music, video, photos) to and from your phone
Use mouse and drag and drop what you want to sync with your phone. Its so simple.
2. you want to copy any other types of files to and from your phone
Its pointless, because files will NOT be vissible to WP7 and if you want to move files from A to B, than use what is more appropriate and designed for this purpose, like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_flash_drive#Uses

I wanted to try this method because zune was in no way connecting to my hd7. I found the problem though. its my operating system. i plugged it into my laptop running windows 7 and it connected perfectly.
Did the required registry edits but unable to view any folders inside the Storage device on the computer, both computer & zune detects the phone though. Need to transfer a .cab file for installation of Satguide.
Would be great, except for the fact that wp7 doesn't use .cab files, only .xap files.

[Q] Htc hd 7 bluetooth

Hi! When i want to send file from other phone to my htc hd7, i see message "not supported". How do i repair this?
The easy answer is to take a seat and pray that M$ come up with the goods. In other words you cant send anything over BT at this moment in time.
With WP7, the only way to transfer files is via Zune, SkyDrive or email em to your device. That's the reason why they disabled access to the storage card. I can't believe I'm saying this, but, I'm used to it now.

definetley not recommended. Easy way to screw up your sd card. WP7 does not have a file system as such, therefore transferring files can only be done via Zune and now in mango trough SkyDrive or email always. Read this answer from Microsoft: "WP 7 doesn't support any profiles that would allow you to transfer files via BT, so there is no point in trying to connect to a laptop. Your option is e-mailing a file to yourself.
In Mango you will have the option of saving the file to Skydrive via WiFi or Cell Data. Stil not directly to a laptop however.
Notice there is no file system, so no explorer that you could get to the file and say 'send via BT', no option within an open document menu that says 'send via BT'. There is no BT transfer directory, and if you could attach via BT the file explorer on your PC would not be able to navigate to a file to download, because, again, there is no visible file directory structure."
Or visit Microsoft answers page here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...luetooth/3a487b51-40ae-40ee-a319-041fa336a05a

Connecting HTC One to Mac

Hi,
When I connect my HTC One to my Macbook Air, it says I have to use the HTC Sync Manager to transfer files. This sync manager sucks. I am all Mac, iMac & Macbook Pro. You do have to use HTC Sync Manager, however it is drag and drop once its up. Plug your phone in and it will mount. Open a Finder window and you can drag between the two.

Android devices generally require you download the Android File Transfer tool for Macs. It's not quite the same as a Finder window, but it does support drag and drop. OS X doesn't support the MTP file transfer protocol, hence the need for this tool. Since the One uses MTP to connect to Windows devices, it should work on OS X as well. I can check in a bit.
Yep, transfer tool works fine.

No problem, please leave a "thanks" vote if it helped. Nothing beats Airdroid for on the go use, but it's really better as an SMS management tool than as a file transfer tool.
