I recently published my ReelPortal video chat/conference software for Android 2.2 (using Adobe AIR 2.5) at the AppsLib market:
http://appslib.com/applications/app.html?ida=31520
I don't have a G Tablet, but would like to compile a list of devices that the app works on. So I'm looking for testers out there.
Please provide feedback if you try it. Thanks.
For more info on testing, please visit www.ReelPortal.com.
I just added another version reelportalX.apk (version 1.0.1). This version is working fine now. I suggest using it instead of the older one.
You must get Adobe AIR 2.5.1 from Android Market, or you can download the Adobe AIR SDK (http://www.adobe.com/products/air/sdk/), and get it in subdirectory runtimes\air\android\emulator, or runtimes\air\android\device. I found that Adobe doesn't allow posting the AIR apk on a website. Note: don't use the AIR link in post #6.
If you want to test chat with other folks around the world, please join the "xda" room (all lower case). Capacity is limited .
firewater2003:
Install Adobe Air 2.5.1 from here: http://download.pandaapp.com/?app=soft&controller=android&action=show&f_id=2291
Beware of TNT dashboard:
MoonPops: I kept getting the black screen while starting up ReelPortal in the TNT dashboard home, but it works fine in the Android Home Classic screen interface.
Firmwares that were confirmed to work:
Stock TNT 3588 (do NOT use TNT dashboard)
TnT 4.1.0
TNT lite 5.01
VEGAn-TAB-v1.0.0B5.1
can not find adobe air in market... running tnt 3.1.2
when I launch reelportal app, it get a blank screen
I did find adobe air 2.5 and installed it from another source.
I installed Adobe Air and your. apk and everything installed fine. Web cam and interface came up and seems to work fine. Only problem is, I don't have anyone to chat with, so I don't know how well that works......lol.
worked between my Droid 1 and my Gtablet.

I found an APK for Air here:

I was going to try between my Gtab and emulator.
Air installs ok on my emulator, but reelportal.apk says "application did not install" ...

Same experience here. Stock 3389 with performance pack. Grabbed Air from another XDA post (2.5.15320). It just comes up to a blank screen.
Can those who got it to work link the apk they located?

Hi,
I found this:
http://reelportal.blogspot.com/
Is this your website?
If I'm understanding how this works (when it works), these chats go through your chat server, and the way that we would do one-to-one video chats would basically to "join" a chat on your chat server?
Thanks,
Jim
Installed air and reelportal. Just a black screen for me too, running TnT lite 3.1.3

Jim:
Yes, that's my "readme" page for my ReelPortal dot com site. Sorry I'm not allowed to post any links .
You are correct on the server. It routes the data from the clients to each other. However, the clients can also do peer-2-peer with each other (this is the default mode). When first started, the clients all connect to my server to sign on. The server checks for name conflict and room availability, and authorizes the session. If you are in a room, the server connects you to all the clients in the room automatically. Of course, you can call individual person if you know their name(nick). You can also disconnect from any client you want.
In p2p mode, all video/audio traffic goes directly from client to client(s). The server doesn't have to process it. If you select client/server mode, then the server receives your stream and distribute it to all subscribing clients. This lessen your uplink bandwidth if you have multiple subscribers.
The next version will allow you to specify your own server. And yes, you can run your own server on linux, windows, or macOS. And perhaps other platforms too, if you are inclined to do so. An older server version is currently available from my download page, but I will release the newer version in conjunction with the next client.

To test, you can actually call yourself . Once connected, press button 7 (P2P), and select "Send to Server" mode. Then, press one of the "blue head" on the right, then press the ">" button on the dialog. A list will appear, and your nickname is the always the first one on the list. Click it, and you should see your own stream feeding back to you. Basically:
Your video ----> Server -----> Your device
Or if you have a computer, just run the web client on your computer, join the same room on both devices, or call the other's nick to establish connection. Hope that helps.

If it's a blank white screen, then perhaps it's not finding the server. Is your internet connection available or slow? Ideally, I should have some status indicator to be a bit more user friendly.
I also tried the adobe air file posted here, but reelportal apk only opens to a blank screen still. What are we doing wrong?

I ran a brief loopback test under low 4g in Philadelphia. Performance looked good but I was unable to select front camera on EVO. I will play with this some more but front camera access is a must.

Thanks. Apparently, the front camera can't be access at this time . I googled this:
"AIR does not currently support the front camera.
In fact, the Android OS does not natively support the front camera. The device manufacturer provides a separate Java library that makes the camera available to Java apps."
I wonder if Android 2.3 supports multiple cams.
Also, is the front camera access problem the same for all tablet devices? Or is it device dependent?
To answer my own question: android 2.3 supports multiple cameras.

I have been missing Pandora since I switched from my iPhone to the G1 and I must say I got really excited when I saw the FlashPlayer embeded in the latest Hero build. So, I decided to try to get it working.
I loaded up the mini player from pandora.com and saved the .swf file to my sdcard and launched FlashPlayer (using Astro's application manager). It found the swf and even begins to load. I get about 50% and then I am greated with a message saying that it will not work if I don't share my info (aka a cookie with my subscriber number)
If I can get the browser to let me log in and set a cookie, I might be able to get to the next step. Unfortunately, Pandora.com does browser detection and flags the android browser as unsupported.
Any ideas?

Search around and see if there is an easy way to change the browsers useragent. I'm not sure if it's possible, but by the sounds of it, that's what needs to be done.
Maybe try to get a hold of the guy who made the "Steel" web browser, the one available in the market. He has a setting to allow you to set the browser to be recognized as a Desktop or iPhone browser.
Nice work here though, didn't think Flash was that far along on the Hero build.
Does anyone know where/how the browser stores cookies? Could get the cookie strings from a desktop, insert them into the phone (sqlite db, maybe?)
i actually emailed pandora the other day asking about android apps. here is the response. (email and name removed to prevent possible spamming)
Thanks very much for writing. We really appreciate your vote for the G1. I just got a G1 myself and would love to have Pandora on it. I can tell you that we have started working on an application for the Android platform. However, I do not have a time line or ETA for when it will be released.
Please stay tuned to our "On the Go" page for updates: www.pandora.com/on-the-go
Thanks for listening in the meantime!

So, I figured that I would post a confirmation that states that while using my NC and PrinterShare from the market I can print documents over my WiFi connection at home!
I was not sure if this would work, and it took the NC a bit to see the WiFi printer, but it works. I am going to purchase the full version now that I know that it works.
This NC gets cooler and cooler, day after day!
I am wondering if something can develop a way to auto-print documents that have been waiting in a queue. For example if I am at work, select 4 documents that need printing, and then the NC would send them to the printer once I connect to my home WiFi?
There is a hack that can send documents from any device to any online printer.
It's not too complicated - as long as both are linked to the same Dropbox account. You would just need to install a script in your Dropbox, then any documents you want to print would be uploaded to that folder.
I don't have the link (sorry) but I'll look for it... I'll post it when I find it .-)
Ok - found it... I think it might be windows only.
(These are just links that I've found... All credit goes to the original author)
First, you need a dropbox account. You would need to have it linked to your Nook and your computer with a printer.
If you don't already have one, feel free to use my link: http://db.tt/1lAXHf7
(There's all sorts of other things you can do with Dropbox, but this is one of the better ones for the Nook... as far as I can tell)
Here's the link to show you how to install the script:

I attached the zip file with the script, hope it helps!
This works (dropbox option). Just printed a document. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, the application works for me, I opted for the wrz version.
The dropbox version works for mac and linux too, you just need the script. I can not find the link now but I Googled dropbox printing and found a page that links to the mac and linux scripts. I tried the linux one.
thanks for the dropbox method it worked.
u can find the mac script here http://www.labnol.org/tech/print-files-on-remote-mac/17838/. and the linux script here http://www.labnol.org/software/print-files-on-linux/17841/

I was wondering if you or anyone could help me troubleshoot my setup. I have a brother mfc-j270w that is listed as a supported device on the printershare home page. I also have a rooted nc with no overclock and only modified location service files. It will see the printer and even show that the printing has been spooled and completed. The printer shows receiving the job, feeds the paper, but prints nothing.
I would assume that the printer firmware isn't compatible with the printershare drivers, but I've ran the same test from my Droid 2 and it works like a charm.
Any ideas?

Ok, so I think I've figured it out. It had to have been an IP address conflict. I set the printer to a static IP address and it seems to be working fine now. Also, the setup I'm striving for involves networking through wireless tether on my Droid 2. I have to make sure that I connect the nc immediately after starting the wireless tether app so that su is still active. For some reason, the su permissions seem to time out after a bit, but it never causes any interruption in wifi service. I can also get it to refresh the su permission and allow the nc to connect just by turning the screen back on. Is this normal?

The fact that the su privilege seems to come back when the screen is turned back on makes me think it may have something to do with the Superuser app being cached/inactive by Android (after some inactivity)?
You could check the Superuser Log and see if it shows another "allowed" entry after waking the screen?
Just throwing out ideas.
I'm developing for Android platform utilizing Adobe newest Flex HERO which supports mobile device. The whole process is ok, but what I found that first of all it slow, that may be because no official release or AIR and Flash for GTablet. But also it is quite buggy. During debug application keeps crashing very often in various places, so I assume this is not my bugs. Debugging on device getting to be very annoying, can launch app 5 times before it actually starts properly and wont crash at very beginning.
Can anyone sharable own experience of AIR developed under GTablet?
I'm using latest Vegan firmware latest available AIR and Flash player.
Edit: I've attached APK with app, please try it and tell me how it works. Thank you!
I made a couple of simple apps with the first BURRITO release of the platform. All in all, no major problems like you described. The apps are slow, but not excessively so given that it has to load the AIR runtime first.
At the time I wrote the apps, I was on TnTLite 1.x and 2.x. Havent tried with 4.2.x.
I hope you get it sorted out; to me, the Flex platform is WAY faster to work with than the standard Android/Eclipse or MotoDev Studio.
My ReelPortal video conference app runs on top of AIR 2.5.1, but I actually developed it using Haxe (FlashDevelop IDE), instead of the Adobe tools. The major reason for doing that was speed, as from what I read, Haxe compiles to faster and tighter AS3 bytecode.
This was my first Flash app, so I had to learn both Haxe and AS3, but I think it's worth it, being able to run fast & efficient.

I'm curious to try it. I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be compatible with the G Tablet, but then again I'm no expert. I think it is supposed to work with DropBox for swapping drawings back and forth, not sure what else will work with it.

Well this is just GREAT. The app won't install to the g-tablet !!
I installed it just fine on my phone. If I could find it, I'd try to copy it over to the g-tab... but I can't locate it on the phone, it doesn't show up in apps. Wonder where it could be ??
I will have to dig around and see if I can find it. Crappity.
I did take a page out of Roebeet's book ... I have tweeted AutCAD WS and asked if there is an alternate place to download the application. Hopefully I'll get results as good as he did!
Solved
Solved - in case anyone cares to know.
Here's how I went around the back way to install:
1. Install AutoCAD WS to an Android phone.
2. Use Titanium Backup to backup the application to the sdcard.
3. Connect phone to PC as a USB drive; copy three files to PC. The are a Properties file, a zipped .tar file and a zipped .apk file.
4. Unzip the two zipped files on the PC.
5. Connect the G-Tablet to the PC as a USB drive. Copy the properties file, the .tar file and the .apk files to /system/apps. Note that the latter two must be unzipped.
6. Use a file explorer to install AutoCAD WS on the G Tablet.
I tested it by opening the sample drawings and it was fine. It also recognizes drawings sent as email attachments and will open those.

Ditto for me. Friend of mine tried it on his Gtab, same ROM, it installed it to his phone (from the web market), even though he selected his tab.
Anyone else notice that "pinch to zoom" only works with your fingers horizontal, not vertical? Happens in most apps for me, including this.
I don't see the appeal of having a CAD application on a touch device like this. For viewing, sure, but for content creation it seems much more painful than a traditional CAD setup.

Bingo! Now I just need to convince my employer to let me bring my tablet into work (stupid security at defense contractors)
keep in mind, there are people who do autocad in the "field" .. For instance at my previous job, the field surveyors would create dxf's in real time with their data collectors. Being able to look at the file before leaving the site would help for those 5 shots they forgot to shoot.. Not to mention they could email the point file and dxf and proceed to the next job without visiting the office again..
I think those data collectors are meant to connect to PC's; not sure if they would connect to the G-Tab. It would be awesome if they did.

I can only speak for the units i did IT support for, but they were the industry standard data collectors.
yes, they are designed to connect to pc's via db9 to usb, or bluetooth
however, the data collectors communicated with the total station and gps stations via bluetooth. It's not hard to do a bluetooth file transfer from the data collector to another device..
Hell, i even sent a file from a data collector through a nextel i530 (i believe that's the model #)
you don't know hell until you've operated a $4,000, 206 MHz, Windows CE 3.0, 4.1" 320x240 monochrome resistive screen with a kick butt 32mb of ram when it's 5 degrees outside ... On the plus side, it did have a built in screen heater so that the screen would work down to -22 deg(f) !
This app looks pretty useful as is but it doesn't look like it will allow the creation of new documents on the tablet, only viewing or editing of already created and uploaded ones. Or did I just not find it?
At any rate, even as things stand this will be a huge benefit to me in my quest to make my tablet a bigger value to me while I'm in the field on project start ups.
Now I just need to get off my butt and get started on that field/trip report app...

Hi all,
myMedia WP7 has recently been released on the marketplace. myMedia WP7 is a TVersity client that allows you to stream music and video (and view pictures) from your TVersity server to your WP7 device.
The server handles all the transcoding (if required), so all videos formats are playable on your phone. For Tversity to properly identify your WP7 device you need to update the included profiles file. Instructions and the profile is available from here http://www.gordonhome.info/?p=198
myMedia WP7 has a fully functional trial mode (ad-supported) or is $1.99 US for the non-ad version.
You can get is here (Zune link) http://social.zune.net/redirect?type=phoneApp&id=27cacd23-1e94-e011-986b-78e7d1fa76f8
A video of it in action

Please post app recommendations in WP7 General.

Sounds cool. When I have a bit of time to setup Tversity, I think I will give this a go!
I already had TVersity and DynDNS installed (for separate reasons) so I set up myMedia and it works flawlessly both over my home network and from the external address.
Very nice, I can confirm the trial is fully functional & works flawlessly once you have TVersity & DynDNS (Needed if you don't have a static External IP, which most ISP's don't use) setup.
Could you explain setup using dns a little more? Also, should you not need to use a dns ip if you're just trying to use tversity with mymedia wp7 on your home network (connected through wifi)? Thanks.
Ok, got it working on home network. Now just trying to get it set up with port forwarding and using dns server.

Yes, you don't need to use a DNS service on your home network (or if your ISP provides a static IP address). You just put in the IP address of your tversity server.

Hi,
I have everything set up including the profiles file but am unable to find windows phone 7 in the dropdown list in settings - media playback device within tversity. this seems to result in every video file being unsupported when trying to stream them from my device. ány idea what i can try to resolve this please?

It doesn't appear in the drop down settings (that's not what the profile does), it's automatically detected based on browser strings. The Mango Beta has thrown a spanner in the works by changing the browser string so WP7 is no longer automatically detected.
I've submitted an updated version to the marketplace that lets you force tversity to use a specific profile. By choosing this option and putting in the profile GUID (it defaults to the GUID of the WP7 profile I provide), you can force tversity to use whatever profile you want regardless of the auto detection.
Hi,
unfortunately this update did not resolve the issue.
It seems to recognize it as a Windows Phone 7 now, but Tversity is telling me: Error - Could not strart transcoding for file://.................avi
nevermind that, fixed, all working ! thanks !!!!!!!!!!
I got everything running but when I try to play a movie it gives an error... ''Sorry, can't play this file''... Or something like that...
Any ideas...?
I'd like a new icon for this app.

It's not transcoding the file
1. Did you install the profile?
2. If so, is the device being identified as a WP7 device?
3. If you're using Mango, turn the force profile detection on in the settings page.

I'd like a billion dollars. I take it you're a designer and are offering to design one...
I'm not, I'm a consumer offering feedback. Isn't it why you post here, for feedback? I send feedback to plenty of devs and never had an answer like yours, I'm really unimpressed.

I did that and it was a bit laggy...
Then and played aroun and found the best settings in my case...
Media Playback Device: WMV9 Video Device.
Leave the IP address blank
I have turned off HTTP Proxy.
On the Transcoder Tab
When To Transcode: Always (Important)
Mine is set to Decrease Bitrate if its too high for my network
And ticked Use DirectShow for Windows Media Encoding and choose Windows Media Video 9 in the drop down menu...
Now everything works fine in Mango...

If that's the type of 'constructive' feedback you offer to developers, then I'm sure your feedback is ignored.
'I'd like a new icon for this app' is not constructive and provides no insight into what you feel is wrong with the current icon, or what could be done to improve it. Not only that, the tone of the post is arrogant and rude.
Most developers would ignore comments like those. Fortunately I don't make my living off this type of stuff so I can say what I want, how I want. In general, I'm courteous and will do everything to help out a user and work through any issues they have. On occasion, I'll talk to people in the same manner they chose to address me.
For anyone who wants to suggest genuine features or has requests for changes, I'm happy to listen. In fact, I've made a number of additions and changes based on user feedback.
I've also spent significant time assisting users setup tversity so they get the best experience using the app.
Peew971, in order to avoid feeling disappointed in future, I'd reconsider how you leave 'feedback'.

BellPego,
Glad you got it streaming for you. Just a note though, that if you use those settings and have other devices it'll also affect playback on those devices.
Personally, my settings are
Mediaplayback Device
Automatic
Transcoder
Only when needed
decrease bitrate
Windows Media Encoder
Tick use directshow
Windows Media Video 9
Optimization
Quality
Compression
Average
When you insert the WP7 profile into the TVersity profiles.xml file (this will automatically be included in the next build of TVersity), and in Mango turn on the force profile detection, it will detect that the device is a Windows Phone 7 and transcode accordingly.

Wow, I said "I'd like a new icon for this app", not one more word. What is it I should reconsider, was I disrespectful to you or your work? Alright I just typed a quick sentence from my phone and didn't elaborate but I didn't deserve that sarcastic answer of yours.
I've been praising your app to friends and users here and elsewhere and that's how you address me because I said "I'd like a new icon for this app"?! This takes me back to those bad times with Dinik on the HD2 forums, talented guy but I couldn't force myself to support his work anymore after some odd posts of his.
Just... wow.
