change your screen locker with no root - Android Themes

hay guys ,, a couple days a go i saw a post a bout how to change your screen lock using widget locker ,,,, well it was a hard work to do ,,,, but i found this you tube video ,,, its about customizing your screen locker using lockbot pro the coool thing a bout it it doesnt need root or any thing just download some mod in png extension and change the lock screen and thats it here is the video
youtube.....com/watch?v=Daf10b4JCfQ
now what he is doing in the video is just basics but i tried it and i have the same results as in widget locker
i dont know if you guys know a bout this or not,,, just wanted to give you an easy way to make your own locker screen

the video is not a spam just remove the extra dots

this looked promising at first glance but it has horrible reviews on the market....enough to make me not even want to try it

Ive been using it for about a week now and had absolutely no problems with it.

LOL! Modifying WidgetLocker is hard?
Explain where it gets tricky, please. Elaborate on the subject.
The problem is that most people want to modify .apks on their device, without a computer. And yes, if you do that you most certainly will run into some problems if you're a n00b. If you do however take ten minutes out of your life and download APKManager you wouldn't have any problems. I used to send people .apks in private when they had problems but I've had to stop. People in general are just lazy, and if it doens't work RIGHT NOW it's hard and stupid.
But even though there are a hundred posts saying "Dude, just ****ing use APKManager already" people insist on choosing the easiest guide to follow: The shortest one. If you don't have the time or interest to modify an app don't even start because you're just gonna waste a lot of thread space. If you on the other hand are interested and have the ten minutes: Use APKManager for all your .apk modding.
/rant.
I like LockBot. It has some neat lockscreens. But I like WidgetLocker better.

lol, i do agree with the above, just sayin, all i did was read the guide by zhk3r and modded and loaded the app within 2 minutes using my computer. but anyways. lockbot is crap imo (well for me), it just didn't want to work properly ;(.

all i am saying if you cant root your phone or cant download a paid app then you have to fined another way

New to rooting....got a few questions before I try.

I searched and did not find anything...sorry if i missed something...
Alright so I am looking at rooting and only thing that worries me is if i have to send the phone in. How can i make it look like I did not root it. Is there any downside to rooting and what can I do with a rooted phone. Thanks everyone
It's really simple to make it go back to stock, just use the Sprint RUU in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=608434
Downside to rooting might be if you don't have a permissions manager installed you could give root access to malicious program. Haven't heard of it happening yet, but it can.
As for what can be done with a rooted phone, the possibilities are endless...
once you root and flash a recovery rom your all set to go...also do a backup in case. there are a couple really good roms out there, i recommend fresh 1.1 and gumbo kernel. there are some really great themes out there as well. as the above poster said the possibilities are endless and in time we will have as many new roms and themes as the gsm users have.
most important, have fun!
Where can I get the ROMs? I can't seem to find them....and with my luck they are in some place obvious.
There is a sticky at the top of these forums which gives a nice link.
To make it easy, it takes you here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=CDMA Hero ROMs
there is a sticky at the top of the forum that has all of the ROMs in a Wiki site. look there
haha just like I thought...It was in plain sight. Well after trying a couple of ROMs i fell with Fresh....but i've noticed that my clock does not display the weather anymore...whats up with that?

Go into menu, weather, update and then give it a min. If it still doesnt refresh, put your phone in stand by and come back.

Nothing. The weather widget has no problems and syncs just fine and shows the correct weather but the clock refuses to. I think everything is set correctly yet it does not want to show.

Did you try soft resetting your phone or even removing the widget and adding it back to the homescreen?
both. Neither worked oddly. I dont know...ill mess with the GPS and wifi settings also and see if that fixes it. that isnt the biggest problem ever. If you have any idea on whats wrong though let me know.
I have rooted my phone and I am an addict. I am here everyday for about an hour. You will have fun with it. I recommend that before once you root it and get your first rom installed play with it for a while but dont get comfortable. I have used all the roms available for the hero except one of them. My advice to you is install one play with it them switch and use them all before you start installing all of your apps and customizing it. I have put three hours into customizing my phone with a rom and then Im like ooh a and install another rom and I have to start over LOL. You will have fun if you like to tinker I guarantee it. Have fun and good luck.
While I am thinking about it....can I make my lock screen any more useful. I find this so plain
sorry for the double post but I wanted this to bump up. Clock will not show the weather anymore...anyone have a fix? also any way to put something on the lock screen?

Fancy widget?

Anybody have the apk for fancy widget?
Yes, I do. I'm not at home right now, and I'm not sure when I will be home. I'm on a short vacation and the apk file is on my desktop computer at home. I found it on the internet if you want to look for it, or you can wait until I get back home (which will be Monday morning--I think).
I tried searching for it on google, but I think all of sites were forced to take it down due to HTC's C&D.
I love the look of Fancy Widget, but I'm constantly having a problem with the time not updating. The task is not being killed since it's on my task killer's ignore list. It seems to happen at random times...sometimes while the phone is in standby, other times while in use. Is there a solution for this?

It's funny you say that because BW has always worked perfectly for me, and for that reason I switched back to it. That's fine with me because I just saw a skin I really like, and I e-mailed the dev to see if he could modify it slightly. He cooperated and now BW looks very very close to the Sense look (other than the weather icon being on the right rather than centered).
This is the best HTC Sense-like clock. It looks even better than Weather Widget with h7c skin, but has this strange update issue, when I have to wait sometimes for clock to update.
BTW It shows us how Market is NOT open and without control . It's better than AppStore and we can always use *.apk, but it's sad that if some app isn't good for hTC for example, they simply delete it.
It wasn't deleted, HTC asked the developer to take it down I beleive. It was taken down by their choice from what I read, and probably a good idea. It was so similar to the HTC one, I'm sure they have rights on it

The Market never claimed to be open or without control, its just a heck of a lot less demanding/strict than the app store... The underlying code for Android is open but anything that manufacturers or devs add to the code itself (IE: Sense UI, Motoblur etc...) along with the apps on the market, are proprietary and therefore NOT open (unless otherwise stated).
no weather info is displayed on v1.2.4
How do you check if there is no virus or malware (calling international numbers i.e.) in any of these files? Is there any other way to check this, besides blind trust?

Should say in manifest (request privileges) if it can make phone calls -- which this app only asks for GPS & Internet access.

[Q] Personal Theme Pack - REWARD AVAILABLE!

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Okay so I've made a custom theme pack for myself, now I just need to know if there's a program out there, for un-rooted users, that will allow me to manually change each existing icon myself? If anyone knows of such a program please reply with it, including some information on where I could find the program.
Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to help out, there's a couple quid in it for the 1st successfull program/method that works exactly how I want it to.
Please note, I don't particularly want to edit each file .apk manually to change its icon =D
How many views and no one wants to make any money?
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
It is not possible to change something like the icons without root as it would need access to modify the apk files
Okay so given that I'm looking for a nice simple 1 click root, once found what would be the cards in the deck then?
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
You could change the shortcut icon on the homescreen for example with a program called anycut, or the paid one called bettercut
Otherwise you will need root acses
Edit: Or (Don't know if this works someone might need to correct me ) if you get each apk of the app you want to change the icon on, just open the apk and replace the icon
EDIT2: Nvrmnd read the first post slowly
I've already sussed out the homescreen icons and yeah it makes a massive difference to me, but idealy I want every icon changing to the way I want it, is there a 1clickroot method for Hero?

Hmm... Umm... I got two methods that im not sure if they'll work, first search the market for androot (i think) and try root it that way, second download ROM Manager from the market and install the clockwork mod recovery, there the closest ways to 1 click i think
Max, you got any kind of IM, this reward looks like it's going to you lol, just need a couple of things clearing up, you sound like you know what you're doing and the fact that I've had a pub in the county you live in makes it that little bit better!

Obviously you've rooted your Hero? What method did you use, I'm all for the confusing methods, I'm just not that familiar with ADB and the commands and what my phones running or what 'MOD' I'm currently on. It's all a lickle hazy to me as of right now, hence why I'm willing to pay someone for their precious time =D

Haha Okay
First thing, could you go into (on your phone) Settings, ABout phone, Software infromation and then write what it says under Firmware version
Hey I've got to go for a bit now
I reccomend looking here seems simple
http://theunlockr.com/2010/10/11/how-to-root-your-android-phone-superoneclick-method/
And that should work
Now we're down to business! 2.1-update1, I done that myself =D lol then I updated something else to 3.35.61.2 if this is to any use =S
Hehe I can't keep up anymore. It's such a long time since I rooted my phone I have no idea what I did Anyways the trick is to let out what you don't need. Software number etc. often doesn't matter. It's pretty easy actually. When you get root you can very easily install a recovery. Basically you just download Amon_RA from the dev section and type in some basic commands in a terminal emulator on your phone AFAIK (that is when you have gained root which you hopefully can with a one-click method) and then you can start modding flashing etc.
ADB is really easy to set up. You download the zip file from here, extract it and (I recommend) put the extracted folder on your system drive. Now you can rename it to something easy like "adb" or "Android". If you open your command prompt by typing in "cmd" in the search bar in start (if you're using Windows Vista or 7) or opening "run" and then typing in "cmd". You can now type in "cd yoursystemdrive:\thenameofthefolder\tools" and start using ADB commands. Like adb ls -1 system/app (this will list all your system apps. You can replace "system" with "data". Thos will list all your installed apps) or adb pull nameoftheapkyouwanttoedit.apk \adirectoryyouwanttocopyitto (this will copy an app you want to modify. To modify it you can extract with WinRAR or 7zip etc. and edit the images (except the ones that ends with ".9.png")) and at last adb push \thedirectorythemodifiedapkisin systemordata/app (this will put the modified apk on your phone).
Hope this helps a little

[Q] Theme layout

Hello guys,
ive been browsing the forum for a while now and been reading alot of guides, and i dont seem to understand how people have achieved to use themes where they have text icons for different apps at the bottom of the screen and such, and different slide options to unlocking the screen.
Im also unsure if this is done via root or not.
Thanks in advance
DHD FTW
I'm new to android also but I found this:
lifehacker.com/5627286/battle-of-the-android-home-screen-launchers-adw-vs-launcherpro-vs-helixlauncher
(copy and paste this link because XDA won't let me post links until my account if verified by a moderator)
This was helpful to me and may answer a few questions for you.
Launcher Pro lets you have a sliding dock if thats what youve seen. There is also a paid app that lets you copy custom icons for Launcher Pro your phone (i haven't tried it yet), but i guess all you need are text icons that have a symetrical background and then you will achieve a 'bar' accross the bottom that looks like one solid piece.
Like I said. I'm new to this too but after installing launcher pro and AWD launcher there seems to be a lot of answers to how people are achieving what you're seeing.
Furthermore, to use these launchers you don't have to flash anything. Just install like a regular app. You can then select which one you want to use when the phone boots. Or you can select from a pop up window when you press the 'Home' button.
I'm still trying to find out if I like Launcher Pro or AWD better....
Thank you so much this is exactly what I needed, I'm guessing if I was to install a custom Rom is just back up the paid version.
Thanks once again man
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
No problem dude, I'm just as new to this as you are...
As far as custom rom's are concerned you can back up the rom if you need to but I think most of the stock roms are are somewhere on this forum anyway if you need to return to stock after flashing a custom one.
I'm still trying to fugure out if I really need a custom rom.
The only thing I think I need is the overclock, which I could do just by flashing a custom kernel..
So far I think the only thing custom roms have that stock doesn't are customised standard apps preinstalled and they also include the overclock in the package. I can remove preinstalled apps with Titanium backup anyway so I'm left wondering what other benefits there are to custom roms.. Maybe someone here can answer this..
Finally.. here's a link to some terminology I found useful
wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Terminology
Also here's a link to the icon changer app website for launcher pro
launcherpro.droidicon.com/
Let me know if you go for the custom rom, I'm still thinking about it....
Thinking about the same thing. Probably I will wait until gingerbread gets the custom treatment

[Q] Folders for organization?

Hi all,
Is it possible to make Folders on the home screen to place apps in for organization? I Know HTC Phones allow this, but I've never used a Samsung Android powered device.
Any advice would be great as I would love to organize my games and tools.
Thanks!
https://market.android.com/search?q=app+organizer&so=1&c=apps
those are collection of apps that can do so ... the market is full of this kinda of applications , also , if you use any launcher instead of our stock launcher lets say ADW . got this ability , but you can't put it in folders , but you can place which apps can be showing in the drawer or not to be showing
Thanks much! I will be trying one of these soon! While I'm at it, is there any way of changing the lock screen? I tried Widget Locker but they weren't formatted correctly for a tablet.
there is look screen like the one in Honeycomb , just look in the market for Ripple Lock its nice though , i bought the paid one and its a little bit buggy , but its cool
Trust me, The ONLY app you need to organize your apps into folders is Auto App Organizer.
You can automatically or manually organize all your apps into folders and are also able to create shortcuts to these folders on home screen aswell as change icons of them etc.
Its a [email protected] sweeeeeet app!
SiMi Folders works quite well and is very customisable
Lol, I just realized I'm in the wrong forum. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Thats why when you mentioned the HoneyComb lock screen, I was confused because thats the same screen I already use.
But regardless, all these tips and apps still apply, going to try them.
aww, Simi folder is not supported my the Galaxy Tab 10.1 it says in the market.
LMAO LMAO .. you know if we know that from the beggening , trust me you ain't gonna get SH*T isntead you'll get trolling ...
go go catch your tab10.1 section rofl
It was an honest mistake though, the forum names are really similar. And plus, I found 3rd Party Organization apps that i never knew existed via the market, so I'm very Greatful.
Thanks again all, not at all trying to troll.
no prob , have a visit from time to time you'll see stuff , you can't see it anywhere
