As above, so that it can fit to scale of my HTC Desire HD as wallpaper?
Any ideas guys?
When you select an image to use as a wallpaper the phone will let you resize it.
Otherwise best bet is to change it on your PC in something like Photoshop or Gimp. You could also use one of the free online image resizers.
Image size should be 960x800 for best fit
I tried changing to 960x800 but when setting the wallpaper right, it doesn't let me use up the whole picture. Why is it so?
That's because the picture you are trying to use will have a different aspect ratio to the aspect ratio of 960x800 (I can't remember if it's 4:3 or 3:2).
Any resolution (640x480 etc) photo with the same aspect ration can be resized to fit without cropping any of the image. However, when trying to resize an image of a different aspect ratio some of it will get cropped.
In Photoshop, when you resize an image if you uncheck the box that says "Constrain Proportions" you can make the image fit 960x800, although it will look distorted.

Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a specific background for my hero.
I've downloaded the 'backgrounds' app from the market and also had a search via google with no luck.
Any idea where I can get a Tottenham Hotspur wallpaper from?
Or if not, how I can convert a picture to use as a wallpaper?
Thanks,

whats the background image resolution on the uk tmobile g2 ?
i.e. not the physical screen resolution, but the resolution of the image that is scrolled in the background of the default 7 touchflo (android home?) pages. i dont think its simply 7x width of screen, as it doesnt scroll as much as the foreground

Check the HTC site and see if it lists the dpi (dot per inch / dot pitch) of the screen... but a 72 dpi image should be fine, or use a larger size than 640x480.
As long as its the same aspect ratio it will scale nicely when cropped.
Cheers joe!
I've found something decent, I was under the impression I needed a specific android wallpaper, but the image I found from one of your links seems to work fine!
Thanks...

this site will be usefull there are enough wallpapers. i like this site
Any 640x480 jpeg image should be fine for a home screen background, anything larger can be cropped down when you set it
Hi,
I've been playing around transferring files onto my phone, but I just can't get my lock screen to look right.
1. Does anyone know what the exact dimensions of the lockscreen image should be? I read 320x480 somewhere, but this isn't correct. I've also tried 360x380, 340x480. Maybe it's 345x480? I want to get this right because...
2. Whenever I set an image onto the lock screen, the phone seems to compress the image really badly and I see loads of jpg artifacts on the parts that should be solid colour. I'm hoping that if the image is the right size, it won't convert/re-sample/re-compress the file.
Any ideas?

The stock ones are 320 x 455, and I've had good results using those dimensions for my own images.
Im sure i read that converting your image to a png and using that instead of the png file gave better results also. Not 100% on that though lol
.png gives better quality than jpg.
320x455 px is the right size. But everytime you set wallpaper, HTC software it re-compress as JPEG in tragical quality. PNG or JPEG, that makes no difference.
Will be nice software like Wallpaper Set & Save for lock screen wallpaper. But I can't find something like that.

Not my experience. My own images are usually desktop 'papers resized and/or cropped to 320x455 and saved as JPEGs, and provided I ensure the green 'crop box' is expanded to encompass the entire image when selecting the lockscreen they look just as good as the originals.
I've tried many images. At most (as you) cropped or resized desktop wallpapers. I prepare the correct size and copy to phone. I keep JPEG at 90 to 100% of quality and also convert it to PNG. And every image was resampled during setting up as lock screen wallpaper. Everytime its quality goes rapidly down. Even I used exactly the same way like you.
It is not good visible on landscape wallpapers with. But on artifical images it's very big problem. It blurs every contrast line on image.
Try it on this image: http://anowia.deviantart.com/art/Light-Blaze-HD-Wallpaper-129153930 If you don't notice any resample after setting up as lock screen wallpaper, please provide screenshot.

Here you go.... see what you think. View attachment lockscreen.zip
Not perfect, but it was a rush job. Resized from 1280x1024 to ???x455, then cropped to 320x455. Saved as JPEG @ 100% for use. Photoshop Elements 7 used. If I had more time I'd probably play with the sharpening to compensate for the downsizing.

Also having this issue with this image..
I have problems with all images. But on this it's good visible. And as Shluggity's screenshots shows, it's not only my problem. I think it's not good
I'm not sure what's going on but there's definitely some sort of degradation visible, a softening of the edges. I honestly haven't seen it in my own wallpapers, but I haven't used images like this with lots of thin sharp 'light beam' effects. Maybe original image res is a factor, maybe screen dpi, maybe something completely different... If I have time tomorrow I'll do some tests.
how does wallpaper set and save work? maybe the wallpaper directory is similar to the lockscreen directory?
Have you tried HeroLockWall? (Market)
lockscreen wallpaper help..
i have the same problem i cant get lockscreen wallpaper to work every time i try i get a tile wallpaper and not a stretch wallpaper that i want can sum body help me plz??
how do i get my picture to fill the whole screen of galaxy s? i can't seem to be able to do so. IF only i can have the option of not selecting the 'selecting box'
What exactly do you mean by fill the whole screen?
You could always resize your images to 1440x800 (normal resolution is 480x800, so triple it and it should work nicely for 3 homescreens)
The problem is I can't even make a 480 x 800 picture my wallpaper. Because of the selection box that only captures a fraction of that 480 by 800 picture
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Hei, u can resize the crop box by touch the frame n drag it.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
my image size is already 480 by 800 and yet the crop box appears. I know dragging it at its side enlarges it. I want the crop box to not appear. so my cropped wallpaper is only a fraction of my original picture
How do I do that?
The screen shows 480x800 at a time but requires a 960x800 wallpaper..
Id be willing to donate a reasonable amount to an application that can properly resize and make the wallpaper non sliding and it does not crap out the image quality!

i think u r just lucky... there is a live wallpaper by the name of droid x live paper or something it has an droid eye .. now here when u apply that in the settings u have to select the desired background.. lightning type- none, choose eye - none.. show particles- un tick this... and you are good to go.. now you have a wallpaper that wont move when you move the screens ... and if you know how to edit images.. make an image with the size 960 x 800.. but it will only show the first half ie 480x800 so keep ur image on the first half of the image..... i have attached a few wallpapers which i created may be you can understand what i m saying by looking at it... and i have also attached the apk file of the live wallpaper( this apk is not the full version , u can buy it from the market if u like it)
Hey guys, my laptop's screen resolution is 1366x768 but it's very difficult to find wallpapers with that res. What's the next best wallpaper size that will fit nicely with the screen without any distortions or major cropping? I'm running Windows 7.
go to google images, advanced, use desktop size.
http://images.google.com/images?as_...:1,isz:ex,iszw:1366,iszh:768&biw=1680&bih=837
1600x1200 would work nice close to the aspect ratio.
It's worthwhile to know how to crop and resize images with photo editors. That way, you can use any image you want as your wallpaper, despite your weird screen resolution.
Mines 1440x900 yeah use advanced google search then type your res in there or photoshop a photo
Now you see i just go straight to the top and mine is 1920x1080
lol
desktop: 1280x1024
laptop:1280x800
or Google 1366x768 wallpapers
infact 'Let me Google that for you'
There is actualy a lot of websites with the odd resolution maybe it's not so odd
Its a fairly common resolution because its 16:9 720p screen.
Hi all,
I'm working on some wallpapers for android, but I want to know the exact size of the image for each phone/resolution so that the user doen't have to crop the picture.
In my case, I have a Desire, which has a resolution of 480*800, and most people use 5 pages (left2, left1, center, right1, right2).
How can I figure out the correct width for the wallpapers, as the scroll is kinda weird.
I hope you get what I mean
Also, can someone post the different resolutions of android phones?
Thx in advance for any answers
OK, I figured it out...
Phone Resolution = Wallpaper Size
240x320 = 480x320 (QVGA)
240x400 = 480x400 (WQVGA)
240x432 = 480x400 (WQVGA)
320x480 = 640x480 (HVGA)
480x800 = 960x800 (WVGA)
480x854 = 960x854 (WVGA)
Hope somebody will find this useful too

Has always been 2x horizontal resolution by 1x vertical resolution, not exactly rocket science IMHO
i actually found op's results somewhat useful but then also poster ^ there for explaining it by x2 by x1. i have been having trouble finding a good wallpaper cause my tablet is 7" but res. is, i think, 800x480. so my size would be 1600x480, right?
the issue i always have is when i pick a wall it tells me to crop but even after i crop it, it doesnt size it correctly like i had cropped it
tablet is orignally in landscape but w/ a rotate app i also use portrait, if that even matters at all
