Stop gallery from watching certain folders - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have many folders in my gallery of pics such as album art, game pics, splash screens etc which I don't want in my gallery. Is there an app or way to stop the gallery from watching certain folders. Also have the same problem with music and video where game music and videos show up.
Thanks alot

Create a blank file named .nomedia and put it in each folder. Everything in the folder and any folder below should be hidden.

Is there a way to that on my phone or do I have to do on my comp which is at home?

Check JustPictures app from market
A lot faster and more options than standard Gallery app

Its not really a lot faster but it does have options, its significantly slower though since it shows higher resolution/quality images.

you can stop the media scanner by command or by app (search in dev section)

I have a similar issue and I am going mad with my 1000s of media art showing on gallery. There should be a way to manually assign afolder for indexing.

Right, i like opt-in more as well, but nowadays it is opt-out everywhere.
What i did was putting empty .nomedia file in all main folders so media scan is fast now. Gallery and MP3 Player are of course empty now, but since i use QuickPic and PowerAmp as alternatives that allow opt-in, i do not care.
Before that i used Rescan Media Root to disable media scanning completely, but this had the bad side effect of loosing custom ring tones after reboot.

gallery showing unwanted content

does the gallery ALWAYS scan the whole SD card? i hate having pictures belonging to apps displayed in the gallery like asphalt game displays ALL images/videos and in Music app adds sounds. this is really annoying and wish it didnt scan all the sd card for music. are there specific folders that should be placed on the sd card or something? ie. sd:\Media\Videos OR sd:\Videos
Yeah it shows everything in folders that do not have a ".nomedia" file.
see http://androinica.com/2009/08/28/ho...iles-from-appearing-in-android-media-players/
Its not its fault though, the MediaScanner service is what it pulls data from (ContentProvider)
A settings option to disable this or look in just a couple of foldlers would be great.
Adding a .nomedia in a folder with mp3s with the intention of not getting the album art in gallery will have the side-effect of the mp3s not showing up in the music player
I've no problem getting unwanted sounds in the built in Music app by doing this:
(this was mentioned inside the T-Mobile G1 manual)
Put your alarms/notifications/ringtones in the following folders:
\alarms
\notifications
\ringtones
Those sounds will appear in the appropriate list when you choose to adjust those certain sounds, they also don't show up in the Music app. They do show up in 3rd party music app like DoubleTwist Music Player.
Code:
touch /sdcard/folderwithpics/.nomedia
takes literally 10 seconds to fix.

The method posted at Androinica.com using the text file rename method worked nicely for me.
I did however have to search out where all these files were in order to place the .nomedia files properly.

HTC One & Media Folders

I plugged up to my pc and put albums in the music folder and picture albums in a pictures folder. When i open the music app, it doesn't see any music and same with gallery, cant see anything only pics i've taken with phone. If i use my file explorer it see's everything, opens it and plays. I tried third party gallery like quickpic and it works fine. Poweramp works fine as well for music. The stock software isnt showing anything. I factory reset phone as well and same thing. I've been using android for the longest and first time encountered this. (EVO, EVO 3D GS1, GS2, GS3, Skyrocket, Nexus 4)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've noticed the same issue here. I can connect to a network share, copy music into the Music folder (or media/music) but it wont appear in the Music app, or DoubleTwist. The same is true when copied over USB. Not sure how to get it to detect the music. If I navigate to the folder, I can launch individual songs, but the players wont read the tags, or add the song to it's database...
Force close media storage and use
Media scanner on the play store right after fc-ing media storage.

That didn't seem to do anything for me. I did get music to appear once though by using DoubleTwist AirSync yesterday. I sync'd some crappy windows sample music successfully via that method last night. It showed up in DoubleTwist and the HTC Music app. So I manually deleted those albums and attempted to sync an album I recently got. That time it showed up in DoubleTwist but NOT the HTC Music app. I cannot figure out what the hell is going on or what to do about it. I've tried 3 different media scanner's from the play store and none have done anything for me. I've tried copying my music to various folders hoping they'll get caught in a scan but still no success. Is everybody else able to use the Music app with no problems?
I thought I was the only one. I tried to install Swype also and that didn't work either

still no fix for this problem? will anyone care to reply n help me out?just got the htc one n this glitch is RUINING the brand new phone for me what did the OP do?
So I just found a way to get everything back .
First download a root file explorer (one able to gain root)
then navigate to your root it should be just a "/" then go to /data and then /data/media.
Bam that's where everything is! now just move all the folders to the main sdcard directory, /sdcard or delete the files that are in /data/media if you don't need them anymore.
Good Luck and hit "Thanks" if it helped :laugh:

[Q] Exclude Album Art

Is there a way to exclude music album art from the stock Sony photo app (Xperia T running 4.3)? Album covers currently flood my photo library.
Thanks
Add a .nomedia file to your music folder

Doesn't this hide the actual mp3 files from apps such as Google Play Music?

Yes, it does hide all mp3 files also; not a solution.
As far as I know, there is no solution. I just use Quickpic and remove the in-built gallery/album app (or just don't use it, if you don't want to remove it). With Quickpic you can pick which folders you want to include, or pick which folders you want to exclude, or hide. A lot more versatile than the default Android app, and 10 times faster.

Walkman App

When you're on the main now playing screen, is there any way of accessing the rest of an album? Like on an iPod you can click on the album art and it brings up the other tracks you have in that album. I know you can go to search and then find the album, just wondered if there was a quicker way? I think pressing the album art in Walkman just brings up favourite, add to or the button that links to the song on Youtube.
Also, is it normal that when clicking on an artist in My Library, it takes a fair few seconds for their albums and songs to come up? Shouldn't this be instant?
Click the Queue button top right (next to the album title).

If you're using an SD card it may be a slow card. Get a class 10 card (minimum 10mB/s non-fragmented sequential write speed)
Try NexMusic. Best music app I've come across so far. You just swipe to the left on album art to get to the song list.
Developed by a fellow xda guy Btw.
Hey, I really like the walkman app but I seem to have a problem. After syncing with Media Go (or transferring the music files manually), I noticed that some of my albums are not displaying their album art properly. I used a third party tag-editor software on my PC to make sure that all the files have the proper album art, but the Walkman app simply does not show them.
Media Go and Windows Media Player has no issues. Shows everything properly. Is this a problem with the app? Is there anyway to fix other than using a tag-editor software?
EDIT:
Force stopping the app and/or clearing the cache solves the problem. Now my collection is just as it should be.

it depends on music files
i don't have such issue!
album app will scan all sd-card for images and video
you can see some of them as sort in folders and etc but no way to limit its scanning process...
:good:
I just deleted all album artworks. I use Shuttle and it downloads arts automatically and hides them in secret folder no album app can find.
Create .nomedia file in those music folders?
