You will also need clockworkmod recovery to easily flash themes onto your phone.
Take a look at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596
You'll basically need to flash a kernal or rom that includes CWM through the program, ODIN. After that, you can just copy the themes onto your internal SD card and install the theme via CWM menu, making sure that the phone and your rom are compatible.

I was going through the [guide] root in development section. Wanted to know what is the difference between the recovery_menu_v1-2.0.0.2 image and CWM Recovery image and why cannot I use the CWM recovery to root device with stock rom.
Thanks

1.CWM give u an alternate recovery to the stock recovery
with this u can Flash custom roms, kernals and other things u want as a update zip
u can also create an ext part on ur phone with this also
2. rooting u need to do to tweek ur phone
like overclocking & removing any un wanted Bloatware etc.
I've upgrade to 2.3 via Kies and rooted my phone already, but I have no idea how to flash CWM Recovery. When I try to via the market rom manager app, the only options are Epic 4G and GalaxyS i9000. Any ideas?
I've looked at this guide, although it's in Thai Google translate does well enough, but I'm no longer on 2.2 and my device is already rooted, so I'm not sure if I can still use part of it to get CWM Recovery.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Hi,
The site you reffer to looks like a guide to install Android 2.3.3 If you followed that guide to install and root your device, you should have CWM installed and have it available when rebooting with Volume-UP + Power...Besides, if you want CWM to flash anything you'll need to have the zips on your SD, then navigate in CWM to 'install from SD | choose zip | navigate to required file and press Home to flash...

I appreciate your response, but the issue is I didn't upgrade to 2.3 using this guide but with Kies as opposed to this guide using Odin. I really want to install BOCA!

eeehm, yah ... errr well then, why don't you just pick up the files and flash it ? It might be possible you'll need to reflash the bootloader (cfr. Chainfire) to flash without any problem any ROM you'd like to...
Hi,
I am trying to search a tread where i can find the way to instal cwm recovery on galaxy note n7000 v4.0.4 without flashing kernal.
Every where it is suggested to install safe kernal but i dont want to do that.
i have rooted my phone using latest method mentioned below.
Now i want to install CWM recovery so that i can install cm9 or 10 or other ROMs. Kindly Suggest a way
"Rooting with stock recovery - Thanx to Entropy who direct this way,as well always looking for safety measures for us, Chainfire for creating great tool SuperSu (and many more), Phil3759 as files, scripts derived from his Thread and Linus Yang for Busybox.
- Download Root_SuperSu 0.94
-Copy downloaded file to Ext SD card.
-Reboot into recovery (vol up+Home+power)
-Select install zip from ext SD card
-select 'root_SuperSU-*.zip' which you have copied to Ext card above
-Reboot device
-You can see superSU on appl drawer. open it and update.
-Now This will give you only SuperSU not busybox, though application which doesn't depends on system busybox will still works.e.g.Titanium Backup.
-To get full Root+busybox, Download Root_busybox *
-Copy Root_busybox* only to Ext SD card
-Reboot into recovery, Select Install zip from Ext SD card. select Root_busybox* .zip and Flash.
-Done !"

No you can't get standalone recovery/CWM that way. another thing, you want to flash CM9 on stock ICS that is dangerous, it can brick your device.
Safest way is flash prerooted GB ROM(one on my signature) and use CWM (U will get along with prerooted ROM) to install CM based ROM.

No way! I never like to be responsible for bricking others device.
Once you brick device you will need to change motherboard.

Hi all,
I want to install CWM on my rooted SGS however there appears to be on CF Kernel that matches my JVN Kernel so using the CF method is not an option from what I have read.
So I installed ROM Manager and tried to install it that way but I now get signature verification errors when I go into Recovery.
Next I downloaded the recovery image from the CWM website but I cannot seem to find any information on installing it onto a SGS.
If anyone could offer any suggestions it would be appreciated.
TIA
Greg
Edit: Firmware is 2.3.3
Why dont you just flash JVU then Root it
Comes with CWM ....
As I am guessing you want CWM to flash a rom yes?
If so most Roms require ...from my knowledge a clean install of JVU with ODIN before flashing a New Rom

Download this "update.zip". Place it in your SD card. Power off and boot into recovery with the 3 button combination (press power, volume up and home button till you see the boot logo) and select "apply sdcard: update.zip". DO NOT DELETE THIS FROM SD. You should have CWM installed now. Let me know if you have any problem.
You need to root your phone first with update.zip for i9000, download the latest CWM.zip, put it in the storage. Then go to recovery and install the CWM.zip Goodluck flashing!

Can you use any version of JVU? eg: Europe, Asia, Australia. Or, should you only use one for your region, in my case Australia.
I have an Australian verion of JW6 (2.3.6), would that be acceptable?

Thanks for the UPDATE.ZIP, I note it is just a renamed CWM. I did not know you could just rename them and then install them. Thanks.
So, my plan at this stage is to update to 2.3.6 (JW6) and then install CWM via UPDATE.ZIP. Should this work?
TIA
Greg
Yeah you can upgrade first. Flash a firmware or upgrade OTA. You should root your phone first before flashing a custom recovery such as CWM.

You can try flashing CWM Recovery with Odin, then flash a pre-rooted ROM w/ CWM Recovery
Sent from my GT-S5570
iam kinda new to this so would kinda need a step by step on what to do sorry
Sorry, can't really help you out here, I'm travelling and I have really bad internet, you should consult with uncle Google

cherrs that what ive bein doin thanks anyway
if your trying to root your phone and you still have stock recovery on it then it won't get root rights... install CWM with odin the install a custom rom... also you won't be able to backup a stock rom with a custom recovery so best thing to do is install CWM with odin (if your on stock its the only way) REBOOT then install a custom rom and you'll have root rights as all custom roms have superuser or superSU pre installed.
EDIT read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20253964&postcount=6
EDIT read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529863
cherrs will gave that a go
Or you could flash the update.zip file via CWM and then you get root access on stock Android if that's what you'd like

yeah you can do that, but as I said in my previous post, you can't backup stock rom with CWM recovery you can only backup stock rom with stock recovery so its a good idea to install a custom rom after you've installed CWM recovery, then do a nandroid backup BEFORE you start exploring the system files just in case you delete something by accident.
