Any way to get live wallpapers working on the hero. They are on all of the LG Optimus series and they have the same internals as our phones so I dont see why it wouldnt work.

SENSE is what you want for live wallpapers on lower end phones. Although, I'm pretty sure I tried it on my Hero with 2.2 before I rooted (had SENSE) and it didn't work... Fresh 2.4 definitely works tho.
I AM just assuming its SENSE that makes it work... ran like crap before I flashed Fresh. Might've tried it on CM6...pretty sure...meh... I've flashed and reflashed and recovered and updated so many times just in the last week...
Reminds me...is there an easy way to rename Nandroid backups? Kinda hard to remember which date I flashed and backed up what... and I'm apparently too lazy to start another thread...and really, I don't think its worth starting another thread... barely worth typing it out, really, which is odd since I can't seem to stop... diarrhea of the keyboard? is that a thing?

hello all. I was just wondering if anyone could update on all possible UI's if more do exist besides Hero and the stock t-mob. I must say i do love Hero very much but more so for me the novelty has allready worn off or maybe im just board with it and love flashing roms. At any rate i was just wondering what else might be available to even try to port or is allready done and maybe just doesnt get any love. Thanks, Veritas
I'm in the same boat as ya. Been trying out different UIs mainly hero and stock ui. I somehow always end up back at the stock ui well cyanogen's ui. I'd say just stick with the fastest ui for now until hero is running completely smooth or buy the htc hero itself. =D
There is also OMS but a working port has yet to surface. There were some folks working on it a couple months ago, but I think they are waiting on a full dump of the Dopod a6188 (the China mobile version of Sapphire/Magic) which runs it. If you want to see what OMS looks like do a video search for Lenovo OPhone.

Your right, we're waiting for xDan to get this dump so can be ported over to dream. Also there is alot of themes (if you look in the theme section) There in a format of a update.zip.
the blur was announced this week. idk if ok to port because im not sure the ui is open.
anyone know whats the most stable hero rom out at the moment?

Yah, the Motorola "Blur" (mentioned in early post) for the Cliq phone would be the next option I think besides the Hero and stock G1. But the cliq is like an 850mhtz phone..If it can be ported, it will prolly have to be cut down to run smooth on G1 and the Hero UI on a G1 still has its issues after months and months of work by XDA devs. Not sure what is in store with the Samsung Bigfoot as far as UI goes, Haven't seen any UI pics, may just be stock donut. LG has an android phone coming out for UK only at this point, but that looks like stock donut.

they're all pretty stable at this point. Try Jac2.1 or Hero2. Both are working pretty good for me.

actually jac 2.1 is not even close to be stable when compared to modaco / akirahs 1.5.1 and jacs 1.6r2a.
2.1 still has bugs that older builds like 1.5.1 and 1.6r2a dont have.

3.1″ HVGA Touch Screen, 320×480 pixels
Qualcomm MSM7201A 528 MHz
512 MB ROM, 256 RAM
114mm x 58mm x 15.6mm
the click is not a 850mhz phone. its 528mhz as you can see. and 256 ram... which is less than hero(288mb) so prolly BLUR might run smoother than hero when fully optimized.
the only android phone that has a processor higher than 600mhz is the sony ericsson xperia x3(rachael) at 1ghz
yeah i have thinking of trading in my g1 for a cliq next month. but the new "ui" is basically widgets that are attached to a blur account. so i dont see this is working on the the g1 we will most likely get a launcher that has 5 home screens and the colors but i doubt much else.
As everyone can probably tell the live wallpapers aren't quite as optimized as they should be or as much as id like.. now that we have almost full 3D working on 2.1 roms shouldn't someone take a look at the original Nexus One LiveWallpapers.apk and LiveWallpapersPicker.apk and see if we can get them actually working the way they should (Galaxy)? its just a thought, maybe before we had 3D on g1 whatever the Dev. did to the .apk messed it up now that we have 3D,, just an idea, i figure it wouldn't hurt to try for whoever know how to go about doing that..
thx in advanced to whoever can get back to me on that.
Cannon had great rom speeds for the nexus wallpaper(the donate one from the market) but has mem leaks. OE has laggy wallpapers. SuperEclair has them but are broken. Just wait? Something like this drains battery anyways, why do you want it? It slows down your cpu and pretty much everything is a downside. Just get a new phone is the correct answer for "true" non-laggy stable lwps.
"Optimizing" Nexus Live Wallpaper
Try that. I haven't used eclair in a while, but it made a huge difference in Kings 1.6.1.

its not the speed per say and its not just the Nexus Wallpaper im concerned with its the whole LiveWallpapers.apk, im saying it may need to be looked over, and the rom wouldn't make that much of a difference,, although im using KK AOSP 1.9.. and i realize it does that to my phone but yeah i still want it, and i would get a new one if i could.

and iv been pushing the "Optimizing" Nexus Live Wallpaper v0.3 on every rom iv used since it was released, but again that version of LiveWallpapers.apk was created/edited before we had 3D and performance. so MAYBE something was changed on the original LiveWallpapers.apk from the Nexus One dump that is messing up the LWP's now..
the one that is really buggin me is the Galaxy Wallpaper, its has never worked since the G1 could run LWP even after we got 3D it changed but still doesn't work properly,, that's why I'm thinkin it has something to do with the actual LiveWallpapers.apk specifically the "classes" possibly the ".xml" or ".rs".. again its just my thoughts i have no real idea what i am talking about.
thx again.
OK, I've noticed that the CDMA Hero's can get Live Wallpapers in Sense. Is it possible to make them work on the 'GSM' ones too?
You probably saw that on a phone with a custom rom, because the Hero can't pull off Rosie AND Live WP's running.
cdma heros are running 2.1 with sense + live wallpapers
Sent from my Heroc using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
nprussel has done it again. He's got sense with live wallpapers running. Probably releasing it in rom 5.3. Got this info via twitter.
Guess we have to be patient for a few day's.

Actually nprussel hasn't done anything, zenulator & mssmision are the ones who have gotten live wallpaper's working on the hero CDMA which also works for the GSM with no additional changes.
I have already built a 2.1 sense rom with zenulator & mssmision ammended files and can confirm live wallpapers are working...
Best Regards,
Yes thats right, and Nathan has done some tweaking but given full credit where it was due. It is currently under Donators only testing (but is looking good from comments) and will probably be released as an option to the public in VillainRom 5.3
Edit: for the record the only downsides seem to be you lose full screen weather animations and you can't see thumbnails in the 3D gallery

I'm not sure what your problem is, but I thought I'd at least make an effort to clear the air.
First of all, on topic - here are the facts:
- I did get Live Wallpapers working without the help of anyone. They were working before the guys over at CDMA fixed them. They were very slow though, causing huge slowdowns of Rosie & were barely functional.
- I opted to use someone else's openGL fix, as it proved to be far quicker and more stable than my own. Here's the quote from the VillainROM donator's forum:
"Thanks to MagnusRagnarok, jcase, zifnab & flipzmode over on the CDMA forums, the culprit (ie - reason Live Wallpapers weren't working with Sense UI) has been fixed and is within this file. "
See... there's no mention of it being my own work.
Slightly off topic now, but it needs saying.
Stickman,
I am getting sick to death of reading your snot-nosed comments about me. I have worked hard - harder than most to make the best 2.1 Sense UI ROM possible for the Hero; and I've done it persistently for the past three months.
I've put in an easy 20+ hours PER WEEK into developing since I began. If you've followed my progress, you'll know that I am always on the ball with fixes, and I always try to credit people where credit is due. The fact that I missed you from my credits when I ported your theme over to 2.1 was unfortunate, but hardly an absolute 'end of the world' disaster.
My advice to you would be:
Get over yourself...relax and drop the grudge you have against me. It's only making you look stupid; and I can tell that's something that you are not.
Now - can we forget about it and move on?
If you're the type that needs to get the last word in, then get the last word in. I really don't care. Just say what you need to say and then move on.
Thanks.
More on topic now - I'm currently working on trying to get the LW to work in conjunction with the HTC Weather animations.

nprusell, thats great news I´m using your rom as my everyday rom and it´s great .. keep up the god work. Sad to see go over to the Desire team
I didn't actually state anywhere that you have not given credits to whom ever concerned, I am just saying that the work originated from zenulator and mssmision...
I would just like to point out the people you have mentioned have adapted their fixes and changes against mssmision's work, although not mentioned.
I do appreciate the fact that we are all joining together to further increase functionality and stability in any of the 2.1 builds developed...
No point jumping in and accusing me of the like, and c'mon that comment was hardly snotty, I used to own a HTC Kaiser and zenulator and mssmision were a big part of the vogue community who brought the vogue/kaiser to life again...
I really don't have any issue's with you at all, I apologise if it seems that way...
#edit: Also the unnecessary comments you made really isn't going to help clear anything if that is your intention, I understand you have put it in a lot of work as have most developers here at xda which is applauded and appreciated by your followers. My comment above still stands, I really don't have any issues with you at all.
I fully agree Stickman.

yeah. Me too. Strange world where nprussel gets a new phone and I feel compelled to do the same.... You'd think that the common sense on sites as these or the quality of support provided by manufacturers would influence my choice of phone...
But no, it is a man like nprussel that makes me consider buying the legend.....
That is a compliment! But strange it is.....

I'm sure we'll be able to take elements from the new version like we have been with other builds.

2nd that. motoblur is cool but not as cool as froyo.
I'm a bit skeptical.
Google wants to intentionally fragment Android into 2.2 for low-end devices, and 3.0 (and above) for high-end devices? Why do so? For "performance" reasons? I don't buy it.
Plus, Android has always (natively) supported as low as QVGA, 240x320. This seems to imply that they'll no longer support it, and possibly might not even support 320x480--especially if a "3.5"+" screen is required. This would mean all the applications and development work that went into making older apps work would be for naught.
Something just doesn't make sense. I guess we'll know when Google announces it for certain, but this just doesn't seem completely accurate to me.

I have not even looked at it yet but for all I know, it may be HDPI only. That would be dumb of Google. I don't think many MDPI devices (if any) will get the official upgrade to 2.4 or 3.0, but rooters are like half or more of the user base right? I think google should be on the rooters side when it comes to this kind of thing. The G1 has gingerbread right? And that was not even supposed to get 2.0.

It probably has more to do with how much RAM this thing uses. I was reading reports of the guys in the original thread and they were saying it was sucking down 24-28mb of RAM, the Eris couldn't handle that drain, hell it pretty much takes being OC'd to handle the 3D gallery on these phones.
