The option for settings, applications, development, screen stays on during charging, has "left the building" in almost all current roms. I can not locate anywhere else in settings. My question is how do i get it back? flash a modem , or ist it kernal related?
I think the importance of this feature is quite obvious i.e. using NAV while driving and your screens turns off, or using the music player, etc, etc, etc.
I have tried for hours to search on this and have found nothing.
Thanks in advance!

its something samsung removed in 2.2.1......not kernel or modem related. not much you can do right now unless you or a dev want to figure out how to get that setting back
by the way, NAV doesnt shut off, regardless of that setting
your only other option is to go back to 2.2

Thanks for the quick response Pirateghost!!
maybe i can live with out it :/
I'm no dev, and it seems the devs obviously think it wasnt that big of a loss. Otherwise it would have been in the roms already LOL.
Again thanks for the quick response!

Does this mean that falshing a 2.2 kernal will not resolve this?
i.e I flash perception or pheonix then flash a 2.2 kernal.
Or would the rom have to be complete 2.2 like Cog 2.3b8
2.3b8 is the only rom i have found so far that has the option.
Thanks in advance!

This has nothing to do with the kernel. It is in the rom so if you want the feature you need to flash a complete 2.2 rom. Honestly, where are you missing it the most?

When im driving, if i want to switch a track from the music player its nice to just swype the screen, instead of having to handle the phone to turn on from sleep then unlock it. Also at least for me NAV would shut off.
Personaly every other phone i have ever had, has had a setting to keep the display on all the time or timed shut off. This is nothing new and it should be standard in my opinion.
Get this app "battery booster". This has an option to set the screen to always on too. But remember, leaving the screen on like that could cause a burn in effect.

Thanks a alot!
But I don't believe a burn in effect is possible OLED type displays theres nothing that can "ghost" chemicaly or otherwise, FYI
This was a big problem however with plasma displays.
Thats why plasma production has droped over 80 percent and its way more expensive than amoled or oled.

I've seen visible image retention (which is temporary) on my Captivate's display.
Burn-in (as in burning into the glass, which is permanent) was only an issue with the earliest plasmas. Leaving a still image on a current plasma for 48 hours will give you some heavy image retention, which can be cured within 24 hours with noise/special patterns/normal usage.

I've had a weird problem with my phone for the past month where the camera preview shows the colors shifted. For example, my off-white desk is a mustard color transitioning to green, then black, then dark blue instead of what it actually is. If I take a picture, the wrong colors are saved. Sometimes it works correctly but that's pretty rare.
Any ideas? I was using the latest Cyanogen 1.6 rom, then I decided to try moving to CaNNoN202-CompleteEclair-v20 with the same results after wiping everything.
This seems to have started around the time I was messing with the extra RAM patch and JIT hack but wouldn't installing the 2.0 ROM overwrite those? My free memory is 98,196k. The only thing I can think of is maybe the radio image got corrupted? Any ideas would be appreciated!

Did you try clearing the data for the camera (Settings>Manage Applications>Camera>Clear data)

The Cyanogen rom was working, then something happened around the time I did the RAM and JIT hacks and the camera screwed up. I reversed my changes but it never fixed the camera. Wiping and updating to the 2.0 ROM didn't fix anything either.

Well I'm not familiar with the Eclair rom that you used. I would suggest going back to CM and see if that clears it up.
Sounds like hardware issue to me. :/ Lets hope its not.
Agreed - I doubt I have warranty left. The strange thing is that it will work every so often but 95% of the time it won't.
I attached an example picture I just took. Some of it is right but mostly everything is wacky colors.
I vaguely remember this being a problem on the original cooked roms but I don't think it was quite like this.
I reflashed the radio and that didn't do anything - I suppose the next logical step would be to use the drea100.nbf and go back to total bone stock with nothing.

LOL! Ummm... no?
I preordered my G1 on the launch in 2008 and I still have warranty until December 2010? WTF?
I'm looking for a new phone, so if someone could answer these questions I would really appreciate it.
1. Is it possible to change the font size of the text on this phone for menus, sms, web browsing, apps etc.. everything in general?
2. Just something I heard not sure if it's true but, does the super AMOLED really use 2x the power for white color backgrounds than for ANY other color? That would be really bad for web browsing which I intend to use quite a lot.
3. How much does the battery last with only web browsing over wifi and music player in the background?
4. Any tips about Galaxy S or things you don't like about it? (whatever comes to your mind really)
thanks
Well , at least i got no problems with the baterry life at all , i can use it all day with music on and playibg games browsing etc... Also the super amoled is simply amazing. Overall i really like the phone at all points , the only disadvantages of it are the lag problem wich can easily be fixed and hopefully by samsung in the nearby future. Also its knowb that the gps is not working well but i didnt try this yet
be more specific.
the GPS works
the problem people are complaining about is that the GPS is not accurate enough for some people

Do you mean 'How long does it last with just some regular web browsing and music playing ?' or do you mean 'How long can I browse the net for before I kill the battery ?'
The first one: the battery will last you just fine to look up a few things here and there and generally be a daily driver.
The second one: A lot less than you think. You will get maybe 3ish hours with the screen lit between charges. The level of brightness and other things on the phone can change this, but seriously, don't be thinking about spending a great deal of time with the screen active unless you have some source of power.
Either way, this is not a problem with the SGS, ALL phones with big screens regardless of os or manufacturer have problems with battery life, at least in the sense that they never last as much as you'd want to.
As for any other tips and tricks:
Check your GPS when you get it out of the box, then apply one of the fixes if need-be. Some people find that out of the box, they either can't get a lock, or there is a lack of accuracy. I got the first problem, but the fix works fine and now I can satnav with the best of them. The accuracy isn't perfect, but good enough. Before I have been shown as driving 10 yards off the road in a field but it corrected within 30 seconds and its not like it became unusable. I have never had a problem with using the navigation. It has ALWAYS got me where I want to be.
Secondly, for gods sake use a lagfix, even if you don't get lag. As you put more apps on and fill the memory up more, you'll eventually get some slow down, so you may as well nip it in the bud.

Hi guys, I have annoying probnlem with my LG 4x... When I work little bit longer on my phone, it just starts to behave crazy. Screen starts to "touch himself" I just look at it and he starts to get in menus, opening pictures, closing apps, opening new ones... I just lock screen for 10 secs and than everything is fine for few minutes. Than same thing again. This happens with every ROM and every karnel I try til now. Works fine only with stock. I'm now on Beanstalk 4.4 and iodak 9.95. Thanks!!!

No worries, nothing out of the ordinary in the logs, its looking more like hardware(hopefully im wrong). It might be worth testing a stock rom under the same conditions again, if there is no issue, then theres something weird going on. btw 50c is fine temp for cpu, around 75c is the limit.
Can you get a screen recording of it? (most 4.4 based roms have this functionality built in) this could be helpful also https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ds.cpuoverlay

I have been ROM-hopping for 3-4 months and I have tried many ROMs for my i8190.
I found some I really enjoyed, some did not work well for me.
Without meaning to "compare" the ROMs or find "the best ROM ever" I am just looking for some suggestions on ROMs that I can try.
My requirements are very simple:
-OTG support
-No clock freezing
-No battery drain
What ROMs would you suggest?
Please note, I have no intention of comparing the ROMs with one another, I am just looking for suggesstions in case there is something good that I have not tested yet.
Thanks!

Thank you for your time. This was the ROM I installed last and seems to be a good option.
I have been using it for almost a week, I really like the stability, looks like a solid ROM.
I only have one issue with it (all cyanogenmod ROMs basically).
Even though I have turned the backlight of the hardware buttons off, they keep lighting at random times, I have not found what is causing that or how to fix it, can you suggest something or do I just get used to it?

I managed to break my phone's screen so I haven't been using it for the past couple of months but I'm back here to say this solution worked 100% for me, just in case anyone is reading. Thank you!
P.S. Sorry I had to remove the url to the app, but I'm a new user and I am not allowed to post external links, obviously even when quoting more experienced users.
I'm on Verizon, so I just got my Nexus 6 last week, and I've still been trying to get it looking and feeling like I want it to. I already unlocked and rooted it. I'm working on getting Light Flow set up, but I've been having no luck at all. I'm dealing with the finicky double-tap to wake. I know there's apps to enable the stock battery percentage, and I have done so, but what's the best way to change how the status bar looks? Is there even a way, besides a new ROM? I know Xposed isn't available/stable for 5.1 yet. The percentage is so hard to read like this, it's making me miss my Note.
The battery seems a little iffy so far, so I've been keeping an eye on it. Wakelock Detector was is telling me "Proximity Sensor Manager" has been running almost constantly. Not sure what that is exactly. Any advice or help with these or other issues from those who have had it for a long time? I'd love the help. Thanks!
I also just spent 3 or 4 hours in the car with my headset on, and the battery drained by Bluetooth says 37%. Is that normal?? Seems like an awful lot, especially considering I only made one call.
Google play services is the battery killer for me, often using more than the display does.
As for mods on stock 5.1 ROM, I would recommend maybe Franco kernel (love the color calibration and vibration intensity adjustment) and the MoDaCo modpack for some nice customizations like percentage battery and center clock just to name a few.
Sent from my Nexus 6
Is there a reason for the service to be using that much? That's kind of annoying. :-|
I've flashed ROMs before, but I'm fairly noob-ish when it comes to the rest. I'm on stock 5.1, but just unlocked and rooted, so what would I need to do to flash a kernel or a modpack? What are the pros/cons of doing so? The modpack sounds like it has a good chunk of what I'm looking for. Thanks for your response!
Well, with Franco kernel you just install his app and it will install it directly from within the app itself . . https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel.free
That is the free version of his app kernel app. It basically just does that. For all the extras his kernel does, you need to buy his paid app I believe. I am sure there are other ways to access them, but his app is worth the few bucks it costs . . https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.franco.kernel
As for the mod pack, you would start with installing a custom recovery. If you don't know how to do that, easiest way is download the app flashify, which will download and install twrp recovery quite easily.
The mod pack is even easier, download the 5.1 version from here . . http://www.modaco.com/page/news/_/android/mcr-modpack-for-the-nexus-5-6-and-9-r11-r1437 . . and flash in recovery. Would highly recommend creating a twrp nandroid backup before proceeding at all so you can easily fever everything you will be doing.

Awesome! Thanks for the links. For the modpack...it says near the bottom "Ensure your device is running STOCK LRX22C - use on any other ROM version will make bad things happen!". My Nexus 6 is LMY47E. That doesn't even seem close. Is it compatible with all, or only a few devices, or certain ROMs? Again, thanks for the help.
The mod pack is for stock or stock based roms. And if you download the 5.1 version you will be fine. What they are saying about the 22C build is for 5.0.1 stock, the v11 for 5.1 is what you want. I myself am on the 47E build and it works perfect.

Its probably finicky for you because Nexus 6 **DOES NOT HAVE** double-tap to wake. It has SHAKE to wake.
Which deactivates under certain conditions, like it woke from being shaken within a few seconds of this attempt without being fully brought to wake (by touching the screen). Or because the proximity sensor registers a "near" event (i.e., it thinks its in your pocket).

Why do you need to know that precisely how many "percent" the battery is at? Even if you think you know the "actual percent", you realize that it is only accurate to within about 15%? Its a rough guess no matter how you look at it. If the little battery icon is right up to the top, its full. If its close to the bottom and red, its time to charge. If its somewhere in between, its still ok.

Battery on this device is excellent. Low/mid use can run for THREE DAYS on a charge.

Thanks!

OK, for light flow to work you need the paid version. Once you have that go to settings/Device Settings and root, and check direct mode, root mode and run every command as root (you'll want to disable notifactions in supersu for this app or you'll get constant pop ups saying lie flow has been granted permissions)
Now go to notifications settings and, for each app you want the notification light, got to settings, the light tab and enable the light, scroll down and enable the mixer, check app controlled flash, select the color mix you want and for each color set the state to solid and whatever brightness level.
That should get your light working. You might want to check the "exclude from sleep mode" under each app as well.
The light works just the flash rate is somewhat random.

The mod pack is for stock or stock based roms. And if you download the 5.1 version you will be fine. What they are saying about the 22C build is for 5.0.1 stock, the v11 for 5.1 is what you want. I myself am on the 47E build and it works perfect.

Just finished flashing/setting up the MCR pack. It's awesome! Exactly what I wanted. Thanks so much for recommending it. Now I need to buy the full Light Flow and Kernel flasher, and see if I can manage those.

Thanks! As soon as I get paid I'm going to buy the full one and follow your instructions. I feel like I'm inordinately excited for a flashing light.
I think all I can add to this is try some custom Roms. On stock I get about 3:30 of on screen time, on Chroma I get 5:30 or more.

I am definitely interested, but I sadly burned myself out on ROMs during my Galaxy Nexus days. Having to constantly redo settings and update nightlies and all that stuff got draining after a while. I'm really looking to just modify stock in whatever small ways I'm able to, which as of tonight has been awesome. More battery life would be helpful though. :-/

Chroma is rock solid, you can flash it and not worry about doing updates too often, unless you must have latest features.

Man, after reading the Chroma thread and looking at the screenshots, I'm veeeery tempted. I'll have to give it some thought when I'm not tired, thinking of redoing all my apps and settings makes my head hurt.

Just back up your apps and flash, you won't regret it. Do a full backup in twrp flash the Rom, if you don't like it restore your backup. Only takes minutes.

Does anyone have any suggestions for messing with the vibration settings? The vibration on my phone is so violently loud that I sometimes would prefer the notification noise over it. Not to mention that I normally love haptic feedback when I type, but on the N6 it just sounds ludicrous, like I'm literally typing on a mechanical keyboard. Will any of the kernels let me adjust intensity? I heard somewhere that Franco kernel does, but it was never confirmed. The way my Galaxy Tab S feels when I type is phenomenal...I wish I could figure out what it's set to and have everything set that way.

I use Franco kernel which allows for it. I set mine to 65 strength.

As far as the proximity sensor being active, my guess is that ambient display is using it
. If your concerned I would try disabling ambient display and see what happens. Again that's just a guess.

Yeah, I ended up getting it and trying it, and it's much better now, but not as smooth as I had hoped. I just set up my dad's S6 today and the tactile feel of the haptic on that thing is just...mmmmm. It seems like the motor they put in the N6 is just grossly overpowered, it even sounds weird.

It was the ambient display, I finally figured it out a few days after I got the phone. Thanks for the tip!
