So I never use my Search button, but I always use my camera.
I decided to give a quick guide to remapping a soft touch button to launch the camera, and setting the power button to act as a shutter button.
NANDROID BEFORE IMPLEMENTING!
1) Go to the market and search for "button remapper". It will return multiple apps, you are looking for the one with a green icon that costs $1.00

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
2) Get the latest SGS-Tools from http://www.mediafire.com/?xtw16417su40j7b
3) Open SGS-Tools and select "upgrade stock apps" then "hacked camera apk" (this is the i9000 camera.apk hacked to use the power button as a shutter)
4) Open Button Remapper and click "search button" you'll see a menu. Change the app to Camera and click ok. (leave the other option alone)
5) Your phone will automatically reboot, wait for the media scanner to finish and then push the search button. Your camera app will launch hella fast and just tap the power button to take a quick pic!
ENJOY!
NOTE: most apps that appear to require a search button have the search option in their menu.

Its Auxura's font from Master's ROM.

Sorry!
correct section, now!
Great workaround. I use my search button often, so I use something a little different.
I use SwipePad in the market. Its a pretty responsive app which let's you swipe from a zone on the screen (in any app) to bring up a grid of designated apps. I set one to the camera so I have quick access to it anywhere.
You're solution is definitely best at achieving a camera button, but for those that use their search button, often, I thought Id bring this app to peoples attention. The dev is very nice also, and has quickly fixed issues I've reported.
For those emailing.about a search button, holding down the menu key will bring up search.

does it still break 720p?
Great tutorial! This makes taking pictures so convenient. Thanks.
ETA: I don't know if this is normal but my Camera app disappeared out of my app drawer. The search button link me to Vignette app. I was able to fix it by extracting the Camera app from the Bionix-v ROM and adding it to my system/app. It works now and I'm able to select the Camera app instead of Vignette.

Also, make sure you install from the market not titanium back up. Titanium is a GREAT app but after too many reinstalls of any app, the apps tends to bug out.

Well I altered the battery driver for instant readings over the sense resistor, and wrote an app with graphing at 2 second sample rate.
Your best bet would be to use the current widget, but you will only get 1 minute intervals. You'd have to edit driver and compile your own kernel.
I've started looking at the nexus s driver, maybe we can get the same thing going and update the app to support it. Depends if its really worth it for people I guess.
Edit: duh I forgot to say your options stock is just use OS monitor and view the dmesg log, filter for "batt", and you'll at least get rough readings.
using the hardware search button to search forum FC, re-install doesn't solve the issue... any idea? i'm using CM7 RC1

Thanks. I bought "Screenshot It" because the trial app worked great. Unfortunately, the paid app doesn't work... all the screenshots come out with a red tint. "Screenshot" works, but won't save my settings. No big deal. I'm just glad that it works.
Triskite, have you tried Quicksettings? It's free in the Market. Quicksettings is very handy and has a button to turn mobile data on and off. I know you asked for a widget, but Quicksettings is so useful, I tought I'd mention it.
To switch 4G on and off I use LTE Switch by Geoffrey Buttercrumbs. It's not a widget, but works like one. All it does is open the built in Mobile network settings screen where you would normally switch LTE off. Just saves a few clicks, but it is handy.

This is my latest creation. The idea is accessing as many tools in an organized fashion as simply and quickly as possible (minimalist):
The only thing I have not included here is the other page (I use a 2 page model). The purpose for not showing that page is it has my minimal IM client and minimal Facebook. I achieved maximization of information in a small space by resizing the two clients. And yes, that's an LWP in the background.
The reason you see all those screen indicators on the top is because I was showing my dad how to add screens on my Android....lol

Could it be a local problem? I´m also here in Germany and also can't update.
It is no problem at all to get to "My Apps" for sure. I think the others complaining also will get there without any problems.
The problem for me is, that I can't update a single app. Only if there is more than one app available to update, I can choose the update option.
With only one update for an app, I can only open the app description, open the app or deinstall the app.
Any Solution available?

So I realize Google and android in general doesn't really care for those of us with phones that have physical keyboards but what ever happened to the quick Launch app shortcuts you could set in froyo and gingerbread? Possibly even since the eclair days under the applications section there was an option to set every key on your physical keyboard to launch an app basically making them all their own hot keys in a sense. Now with the new settings layout in ics there is no applications tab just the manage apps section but I can't seem to find the old quick Launch feature anywhere on any ics rom but the functionality is still there (hold search button and Press e for email or c for calculator, m for maps and such) which leads me to believe you can still do it just where the hell is the tab to set which app you want to launch to each key? Am I the only one who used these? Lol I posted a pic to show what I'm talking about... Sorry for the rant and bad punctuation but any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Nevermind I figured out a workaround via Google. Pain in the ass there has to be a way to unhide it but if anyone is interested the steps I took were...
1. Must be using either nova or apex launcher
2. Long press on home screen and select shortcuts
3. Select activities (for whichever launcher you are using nova or apex)
4. Scroll down and select settings
5. Scroll down and select Quick Launch (the first one) and it should create the shortcut icon on your desktop
The shortcut takes you to the old quick Launch menu that allows you to assign the keys but I don't know where Google hid it thru the regular menu. Hope this helps anyone as much as it's gonna help me if not then what the hell you read it for? Lol

Glad to see you found a work around! Just to clarify a bit... ICS was/is not intended for the Droid 3. The only reason we have it is because Hashcode has put in a ton of time on it. As far as I know, Motorola has no intentions on releasing ICS on our phone (the Bionic will be as close as we get), and the only "slider" devices to get 4.0 will be the Xperia ones. Luckily, we still run a Gingerbread kernel, and that's probably why keyboard shortcuts still work.

Luckily, we still run a Gingerbread kernel, and that's probably why keyboard shortcuts still work.

my new phone has no working root so the ideas presented here are useless. however i found this app and it is perfect. only assigns apps, not shortcuts (like auto dial).

Uh, we have Droid 4 too, with official ICS and Photon Q but no devs on it...anyway, it seems that qwerty phones will be more and more snubbed in the years... i hope in the new wave of moto phones "X"....
