Ok, so, if I understand correctly, both Ultimate and Darky run Ginger.
Well.. are there any advantages to Ginger, truly?
Really, that's all I want to know because I don't know if it's worth trying Darky for extended periods of time.

Those are gingerbread themes, not 2.3 Gingerbread. Currently an Alpha build is still being worked on and it was fairly usable but not a full daily driver. Please do some more research on Gingerbread and what is being offered in the I9000 forum. That is where the updates are happening. Or follow Codeworx and the SGS team on twitter.

My mistake.
I read in the firmware version of "about" on darky and it said 2.3, must be modded.
Ok, I'll look into the i9000 forums

wont work on cog just like mikey said. cog is based on a vibrant rom (since 2.4). the rom has to be based of i9000. i thought kernel has to do to it more than rom.....isnt kernel like the "core" of the rom?
Anyone try this on a JPA/JPO rom yet?

The files in the theme are i9000 files that have their images replaced, etc.
Flashing those onto non-i9000 firmware won't play so nice.

ohhh ok, blame my reading comprehension lol (or tryna do 80 things at once) - got it now....
Hi all. I'm wanting to do a custom rom/kernel on my girlfried's G1. What I want is something that she won't have to worry about with regards to stability. He also complains that her G1 is too slow. Sadly she's gotta wait until late summer to get a new phone. Overclocking options within the kernel would be nice, as I presume this would help with the speed of the phone.
So, what's the best that's out now? I did a bit of searching around but didn't find anything definitive. I flashed CM6 on there once before and it was a pain, so i'd rather be able to pick a rom and stick with it ;-).
Thanks in advance.

Id recommend CM4.2.15 but its no longer supported..but still gets the job done. Install defanged then 4:2:15 and don't foroget the ram hack. Sure..its only Donut but you said something about battery being important.
Will CM4 work with a 2708+ radio? My wife's G1 is running CM6 but it is just too sluggish for comfort.

Thanks, good tip. Though I see some post-flash hacking is necessary. I'm pretty handy in Linux but haven't gotten my hands dirty under the Android hood very much. Has anyone explained exactly what to do after flashing the new kernel to get everything connected up properly?

So, if I've already flashed CM4 and got it set up and running how would I go about flashing Super D if I decide to? I should of course do the necessary data/cache wipes but as far as flashing the rom, do I wipe, flash the defangled base, and then flash the Super D rom? If so I may do it as CM4 doesn't seem to be as quick as I had hoped... then again it's difficult to judge going from my Epic to my girlfriend's G1. I'll hve to ask her what she thinks.
Also, what kernel did you run with Super D? I'm still on the stock kernel with CM4 and if I flash another kernel, should I just wipe cache and install the kernel over whatever is on there now? I want to make sure it's essentially the same as flashing on my Epic befre I mess something up and have to do the entire process over again.
Thanks for all the help once again.

what do you mean? darky's resurrection is a odin rom it is based on 9.2 it is easy to use (it will wipe your device btw.) because you almost can't do it wrong and then you can make an easy 9.5 upgrade

there is no definition of a best rom. there are many roms which are available for the sgs based on the different bases. the latest being js8. for me docs rom and darkys rom are the 2 best roms available out there, but there is not much of a differnce in between them..itz like 19-20. bt i have been using darkys rom for a while and i must say the latest v 9.5 is pretty stable and the best going on at this point of time. i recomend u to use dat rom.itz the fastets out there!
Thanks mate, i like the gingerbread theme he has added also and the unlock screen looks good. wander if theres a circle battery mod for it.
I will give you an easy way to check a rom .
These pages and Q& A pages scroll through few dozen of the initial posts note the rom that broke the OPs phone after reading about twenty or thirty posts you will find one name crops up time after time after time . Coincidence or just a bad rom i leave that up to you .
jje
Hah iv read so many and so many different things and found a few that are good, its just i dont want to find out by installing all of them.
The one you are thinking of has multiple broke my phone /help posts .
Either rushed bad roms or hundreds of numptys use that rom for some reason .
Your choice .

Interesting. More information please? Perhaps the developer was doing something contrary to xda rules? Not sure you will get a straight answer on this one though as I would have expected them to lock and rename the thread if they felt the need to justify or explain the cause. By deleting it though, well I get from that anyway, that they would be happy to never speak of it again.

Cm7. stupid answer to a stupid question.
In this moment i use JVU and is stable! I recomend that!
You will flash a JVwhatever, notice that they cannot compete with AOSP roms like CM7 or MIUI and flash back.
I recommend, in aim of saving time, to stay on MIUI.

Thats why i wrote that its a stupid question. Cause such questions tends to get people back to the same old fight between cm7/miui/samsung based roms.
i think you won't find the "best" jvz rom. they are all different and have all some problems, but thats android
btw i think DoctorzRom and S.U.R.F.A.C.E. are very stable and good

10 answers, and ten different advice.
Some about CM7, forgeting to remember you how bad battery life is,
some about their own rom ( I let you judge if their opinions are really relevant ^_^ )
And others about random roms.
So I won't give you any advice, except that you have to try them all and find the one that fits your needs.
